INTRODUCTION This is a guide for finding the items necessary for synthesis. This also lists the items that can eventually be synthesized. The synthesis shop is located in Traverse Town and is run by Moogles. There are two ways to enter the shop: 1) You will first need the Green Trinity ability. Enter the Accessory Shop in Traverse Town and activate the Green Trinity. The ladder will come down, leading to the Item Synthesis Shop. 2) The 2nd entrance is located on the upper level of the First District. Initially you will not be able to enter through this door, unless you first exit the synthesis shop through the door. Now let's get to the good stuff... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Tips and Strategies 1. Equip LUCKY STRIKE ability (AP cost: 3) on everyone in the party. This will increase the chances of obtaining an item from an enemy. 2. Open all treasure chests and boxes you can find. Sometimes synthesis items are found (especially mythril) in these chests. 3. Kill lots and lots and lots of enemies. The more you kill, the more chances of getting items. -------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Frequently Asked Question(s) Q: I've killed (insert number) Defenders, but still no Bright Crystals. What should i do? A: First, Lucky Strike on everyone (probably done this already). Second, pick a good area for Defender pops. Choose Traverse Town and proceed with one of two paths. Path 1: 1st District -> 3rd District -> 2nd District -> 1st District 3rd District has 6 Defenders pop. This path will reset this particular pop. Path 2: 2nd District, Hotel Hallway In the hallway, 3 Defenders pop. Then go through the two rooms (Red and Green) and back into the hallway to reset the pop. Third, pick your favorite path (or both) and just keep killing those Defenders. There's no other trick than to kill more. (As incentive, just keep telling yourself that the next Defender will drop the Bright Crystal.) Q: I need Mystery Goo's. How can I get them from the White Mushroom? A: There's a pretty good guide on hunting the various mushrooms posted on GameFAQs already, but since I've received a number of emails on this topic, I will try to summarize the Mystery Goo & White Mushroom relationship. The White Mushroom spawn randomly in certain parts of certain worlds. They don't attack and seem to be playing charades. If you give them what they want, they will give you something in return (synthesis items, including Mystery Goo). In order to "give" them what they want, you need to cast a specific magic spell on them, depending on what they are gesturing. Any level of magic would do; it just depends on the type of spell. For White Mushrooms that look like they... - are fanning themselves, cast Blizzard - are shivering, cast Fire - have a light over their head, cast Thunder - fell down, cast Cure - are spinning around, cast Aero - floating in the air, cast Gravity - freeze in midstep, cast Stop You need to cast the correct spell while they are in the middle of doing their gesture, otherwise they will go away. Targeting them will help when casting the spells. You need to correctly cast 3 spells; they don't need to be done one after another (which means you can take your time, get to know each gesture and cast when you are most comfortable and relaxed). After correctly casting 3 times, the White Mushroom will go away and leave synthesis item(s) behind. If you are able to cast the same spell all three times, it will drop a Arts Book, depending on which spell you cast. Some people say that Mystery Goo's always drop when you are able to cast three of the same, but it's all random. I've gotten Mystery Goo's when casting 3 different spells and also received no Mystery Goo's when casting 3 of the same spells. Your best bet is to correctly cast the 3 spells and keep at it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- VII.
