~~~~ Phantasy Star Adventure ~~~~ ~~~~~Complete Walk-through Version 1.0~~~~~ ~~~~~~By: Ben Da Costa~~~~~~ Version 1.0 October 6 2006 ##################### ############COPYRIGHT INFORMATION############ This guide is soley intended for private use and nothing more. All the content is my own acquired information and is copyrighted to me, Ben Da Costa, 2006. The Phantasy Star series is copyrighted to Sega, 1987-2006. This file is ONLY to appear on http//:www.gamefaqs.com. If found elsewhere, contact me at amaninflames@gmail.com ############################################# Welcome to my first walk-through. I wrote this guide to accomadate the gamefaqs bounty dire need of a full walk-through for this game. Aside from that though, I am a rather huge fan of the Phantasy Star series. So having seen this on the bounty list, I got excited and decided to get to work. Before I begin the walk-through, I'd like to make it clear that this game is only available for the Sega Game Gear and is Japanese only. However if you want to, you can find an english patched rom of the game. If not, I took the liberty of providing the neccessary translations to get you through the game and know what is happening. Remember, the translations are provided through my rom, because I don't know any Japanese. =~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~= Control/Game Play Mechanics: Unlike the other games on the SMS or the Sega Genesis, everything done in this adventure is menu based. Its first person like Phantasy Star one of the Master System but you have to choose which direction you want to move in through the menu with the move command. There are basically only two other button functions; confirm and cancel. Heres what the menu looks like: __________________________________________________ ||-------------------------------------------------| || || ||Move|| \ || || ||Look|| \ Commands, you have || What you see is shown || ||Talk|| \ to scroll down to || in this window. || ||Take|| \ Drop and System || || ||Use || / commands however. || || ||Drop|| / || || ||Sys || / ||-------------------------------------------------| ||-------------------------------------------------| ||All text is displayed here. || || || || || ||-------------------------------------------------| --------------------------------------------------- And here are what the commands and options are for: Move: self explanatory, use this option to move in any available direction which can be between North, East, South, West, Up or Down. Look: this command is always used automatically when you move from area to the next. HOWEVER, you MUST use it in specific areas to spot items. It also allows you examine held inventory. Talk: obviously, used to talk to people. Take: used to obtain any items identified after 'Looking' around. Use: use your available items. Drop: drops items. You cannot drop vital items. Sys: which is just short for System. Through here you can gain access to four more options-- Map, Status, Text Speed and Password. The Map option shows you where you are located and uncovers as you travel around on your adventure. It looks a bit like this: --------- | | | | ===| |=== | | | | Every square represents one --------- area and which square is | high-lighted red is your | current location. | --------- --------- --------- | | | | | | | | | | | | | |===| |===| |=== | | | | | | | | | | | | --------- --------- --------- The Status screen is very simple. Only statistics exist in Phantasy Star Adventure: HP and MST. HP, your health which is only 50 MAX and MST, which means Meseta, is your cash float. So as you can see, there is no leveling up. Major bummer. Text Speed: changes how fast text is displayed. I strongly recommend setting it to the fastest speed. Password: you can get your password for continuing the game should you need to quit. This one actually pissed me off a lot. Why the hell wasn't this game battery saved!? Oh well, chances are you'll finish the game in one sitting anyway, especially with my help. =~~~~~~~~~~~~~= Battle Mechanic Yet another oddity about PSA, the battle system. The game remains in the same windowed/menu view but simply engage you with an enemy when required to fight to progress. There are no random battles. You have four options during battle: Move, which kinda acts like retreat but only goes back to the previous screen. Look, which you won't need to use at all. Fight, you choose this option then select the weapon you have to attack or even use a recovery item like Monomate or DezolisSoda. HP, see your current health. When fighting, you attack and a dice will roll down the screen which decided your damage from 1-6. When your opponent attacks, a dice also rolls down the screen revealing damage between 1-6. If you have a better weapon and/or are facing a tougher enemy, two dice will roll down the screen for 1-12 damage. Finally after covering the games mechanics and overview, lets start the game. You'll see the title screen which prompts you to press start and choose to Start or Continue a game. Once you select Start, you choose the name main character for up to six letters. Now in the walk-through portion of this file, you will see I had gone through the extra trouble of pointing out which item to select and what to use it on by order of which they appear. For example, I might say use so and so which is fourth on the list on so and so which is second on the list. This is to help the players out (which is probably most of you) who are playing the game in Japanese. Remember, I had an english rom and I'm not going to assume everybody has it so I decided to make this file work both ways. ============================================= We begin the game and our Hero begins to introduce himself and what is going on at the given moment: I'm an agent from Paseo on the planet Motavia. One day in AW 1268, I got a letter from Ken Miller. He's a scientist and an old friend of mine who lives on Dezolis. This is what the letter said: "How are you, (name)? I've invented the greatest creation of the century! You have to come and see it!" I took some time off from work and headed for Carsonville on Dezolis, where Doctor Miller lived. (Your character arrives at Dezolis Spaceport) This is the Spaceport. There's a girl at the desk. The exit is to the east. Now we begin our adventure. From here I will provide only the directions needed to progress through the game and I will only provide the translations for any dialogue between you and any other person. From the Spaceport you can only move east, to Carsonville. So move east out onto Carsonville. From here move north to center of Carsonville. Move once again north to the end of town. From here is Miller's house to the north and the Teleport station to the east. Go north to enter Miller's house. Here you will meet Miller's younger sister, Lila. Talk to her. "I'm Ken's younger sister, Lila. My brother's in the back room. Use this to buy anything you need" She gives you 30 Meseta. After talking to her and recieving the meseta, head north into the back room to meet Miller: This is Doctor Miller's lab. The doctor's here. There's a large machine covered in cloth next to him. Speak to Miller: "Oh, you're here! I really want to show you my invention but my throat is dry as a bone. Would you mind getting me something to drink?" Now head back south three times, back to Carsonville center. From here, go east to the shop. At the shop the clerk sells three items: DezolisSoda - 10 MST Meat - 20 MST Laser Gun - 95 MST We're here for some Dezolis Soda. But while you're at it, lets pick up some Meat to for later. You wind up spending all your money but if you talk to Lila again, she will hand you another 30 meseta. After getting the two items, head west then all the way back up north into Miller's lab. Don't forget to talk to Lila on the way in for more money. Once back at Miller's lab, proceed to the use menu and select the DezolisSoda and choose to use it on him. (in case you're playng in Japanese, that would be using the first item in the menu and selecting the second choice of target.) "Ah Dezolis Soda! Thanks, I feel much better now. Let me show you my invention!" The doctor removed the cloth, revealing a strange machine. Speak with Miller again: "This is my invention, the Enhancer! It doubles the abilities and strength of human beings. Isn't it great?" Now after speaking with Miller, leave his house heading south twice and then go back in heading north once: As I entered the Doctor's house, Lila grabbed my arm. "A bunch of men burst in here and took my brother and the Enhancer! Please help my brother!" Speak to her once more for additional information regarding the events: "Actually, an institute was trying to buy my brother's invention. I believe the name was Baron Labs. But my brother feared that they would abuse it, so he refused to sell it to them." Speaking to her one last time will have her say: "Please save my brother!" Now head south three times back to carsonville. Now lets head east from here this time on the road. There is a sign here that reads: Caution! The east beyond here is nothing but a frozen wasteland." Don't worry about its warning, you'll be fine. Head east. Now up north. North again into a cabin where you meet Lucero: The interior of the cabin is dreary. There are doors to the south and east. There's a man inside the room. Speak to him: "What? Doctor Miller's been kidnapped? Alright. Baron Labs is up ahead. Be careful. My name's Lucero. Should something happen, contact me on this radio. I'll help you out." Lucero handed me a radio. Now head east to the edge of the wilderness then north onto the path. Here you'll run into a Dezolis Cat: I'm on a path below the cliff There's a Dezolis Cat here. Here you have to use that meat you bought from the shop. (for Japanese text, its the first item in the menu then choose the second option.) The Dezolis Cat began to eat the meat. It probably won't attack now that it's distracted. (You only have to do this once and the Cat will not block you, even though it stays on the screen. Head east. Out here you have to use the look option to spot an axe lying on the ground. Take it and head back west then south and then to the east. On this screen, you'll see a very big tree. You have to use the axe on it. (second item, second choice.) This makes your character chop off a branch from the tree for you to take. Now, lets head back to the shop. Buy another DezolisSoda and Meat. Go back to Miller's house and talk to Lila again and she will give you 30 meseta again. Finally, return to where Lucero's house is, pass through back onto the mountain path and back to where you got the axe. From there, head north then west. On this screen, you'll find a power supply on the wall. What you have to do is pour the DezolisSoda on it to short circuit it. So proceed to use the item on it. (first item, second choice.) After thats done, return one screen east. Now use the branch to get over the barbed wire fence. (third item, second choice.) Head west. Use the branch again. (third item, second choice.) Move Up. Now north. North again. North again while ignoring the small hole in the vent shaft. You can't quite get across the shaft just yet so instead you go down the large hole. In this room, you find that you're in a store room of sorts. You can examine the shelf to spot a Monomate for grabs. (third option in look.) Now go east. In this room, you need to look around, which is the first choice. This spots a rope lying on the ground you need to get. After getting the rope, back track all the way outside to where you used the branch. You need to take the branch back and use the rope (last item, second choice.) instead to climb back in. With this little trade of items, you can use the branch on the screen with the large hole to cross over to the other side. Descend the hole going down: This looks like a lab. The stolen Enhancer is here. The room is fairly big, and extends to the east. Move east. Use the look option to find a Mojick Hat. Pick it up and then put it on by using it on yourself. Move east to the next room. Holy cow! Its our first enemy encounter! Its a guard. You have to use the third option, Fight and select your axe to attack (which is the third item). You'll trade blows for a few rounds before the guard goes down. He has around 12-15 HP, though I'm not sure. Beating him will award you 10 meseta, even though its not announced. Now head east only to find another fight but with a Roboguard. This one is a bit trickier; it rolls two dice on attacks and has about 20 HP and leaves you 15 meseta. After thats done, head south. You might be hurting a bit, but try to save that monomate for when you're almost at 0 HP. Oh lookie, another guard. You should have no problem here. Prevail for 10 more meseta. Use that monomate if needed during or after battle. Head south. Here is yet a third guard. Take him down! Get ten more mesetas! Another trip south and another guard battle. Go south from here and you come across a guard again. At this point you should have about 95 meseta but are low on HP. There's no turning back, head west. Here comes another guard... AGAIN! Whether you win or lose, doesn't matter. You have to run out HP (as in die) to continue. Upon losing all health you get these events: I blacked out. When I came to I was lying on the floor in a small room. There's a man standing in before me. "I'm Baron, the director of this facility. You were a fool to attempt to penetrate this place alone. I'll leave you to my bodyguard." A strange man leapt from behind the director and beat me senseless! "I hope you've learned your lesson. Don't bother trying to escape! We've already disposed of the stuff you used to get in here." The director and his body guard left the room. You're completely trapped now with nothing in your invetory but your radio Lucero gave you. Now is the time to use it: I hear Lucero's voice through the radio. "They caught you? OK, don't worry. I'm on my way right now." Now you control Lucero! You must rescue (name)! This is Lucero's cabin. (name) has to be saved fast! From Lucero's cabin, we need to go to the police station. To do so, head south twice, then west twice, then north and then west. In the police station, go UP the stairs and speak to the cop. NOTE: while in control of Lucero, speaking to some of the folk in the local area will have them comment on how its rare to see you out in town. Now speaking with the cop he will say: "I'll sell ya something good for 90 meseta." Conviently enough, Lucero has exactly 90 meseta in his wallet. Now lets access the use command and select the second item, wallet and use it on the second option, the cop: "I'll give you a badge that Baron Labs staff wears. I got it on the black market." The cop gave me a badge. Well now, isn't this cop shaddy??? Anyway, go back down the stairs, head outside going east then up the road north and turn east to go into the Teleport station. Here, lets first use the badge on ourself to attach it to our clothes. (second item, first choice.) Now lets talk to the girl at the desk: "Ah, you're from Baron Labs. This card will open the door to the teleporter." Recieved ID card. Use it on the teleporter (first item, third option). Now head north into the teleporter. You have to used the ID card on the door to the east (first item, third option) then go through it. From here, go south then west. In the entrance of the lab now, head up the stairs. North once and then this happens: A man suddenly came out of nowhere. It's the director's bodyguard! Don't worry, you don't get beaten senseless again. Instead, just talk to him: "Ah, I see you've got a badge. You must work here. If you're looking for the director, he's in there." That was easy, the klutz moves out of your way. Now use the ID card on this door in front of you (first item second choice). Go north through the door: This is the director's office. Baron is seated on the other side of the desk. Speak to him: "Why doesn't Miller's machine work? Hurry up and find the cause of the malfunction." Seems that even the director thinks Lucero is a member of the staff. Now lets go back to the ventilation shaft. Check the map in case you don't remember where it was. Once back in the shaft, go south one screen which is back to where that little hole was. Select the ID card and drop it down the hole (first item, second option): Lucero dropped the ID card through the hole. Now you control (name) again! Esacpe and rescue the doctor! I was waiting for Lucero to get me out. Suddenly, something fell down from a hole in the vent. An ID card! Then I heard Lucero's voice. "(name) use that to escape!" You have to pick up the ID card and use it on the door (second item second choice). Head south then go west through a door. Use the look option to spot your confiscated items AND a brand new Sonic Gun! Return east then go south. You come across a Roboguard. Fear not! Just use the Stun Gun on him, the fourth item in the menu. This immobilizes it but you don't collect the 15 meseta you would have if you beat him with the Axe. You only have 25 HP any so don't try anything crazy. Unlock the door to the west with the ID card (last item, third choice). Head west: The room is partitioned by iron bars. Doctor Miller is on the other side of the bars. Speak to him: "The director has the key, but security's tight. Use my Enhancer to increase your strength. The machine needs an item called the Gold Stone to be complete. Lila has it. The truth is, Lila is an android I built." Proceed east three times then unlock the door to the west with the ID card. That would be the last item in the menu used on the second choice. Now we're back in the teleporter room, the way we got in as Lucero. Unlock the teleporter with the ID card (last item, third option) Go west and then north to get back to Miller's home. Use the Sonic Gun on Lila (fourth item second option): "Sorry Lila! Go to sleep for a while." Lila stopped moving. You have to choose to look at the Shinystone to get it from Lila. Thats the third option in the look menu. Now lets go back to the shop and buy that Laser Gun we could not afford much earlier. Guess what??? That Mojik Hat we got earlier and put on??? Only makes this Dezolisian clerk adverise the merchandise at HALF PRICE. Buy the Laser Gun and get another DezolisSoda. Now head back to the Teleport Station and unlock the teleporter using the ID card at the bottom of the list on the teleporter which is third on the target list. Go north into it and unlock the door to the east (last item, third option). Go through it and all the way north. Disable the Roboguard with the Stun Gun. Head west twice and use the Gold Stone on the Enhancer (fourth item on the third choice): When I put the Gold Stone into the machine, a dazzling light enveloped my body! Success! You now have 100 HP! Alright, lets head back to entrance of the lab, you should know the way. And head up the stairs once there, proceed north once and take on the director's bodyguard. He attacks using THREE dice! Fight back with your Laser Gun which is second in the list. You attack with FOUR dice. Hes not so tough, he'll go down within about 50 or so HP damage and leaves you 45 meseta. Now unlock the door in front of you with the ID card last in the menu to the door second on the list. Head north through the door and talk to the Director: "I'm amazed you've come this far. However, you will not defeat me!" The director suddenly disappeared! You have to examine the desk to discover the hole he escaped through. Proceed down it: This seems to be the lab. The director is standing before the machine. "You want the key to Miller's cell? Fine. I don't need him now that the machine works." The director threw the key toward me. You have to then to pick up the key: When I took the key, the director laughed. "Even though you have the key, you won't be able to save Miller. You're going to die right here!" The director was surrounded by dazzling light! The machine was activated. But what's this!? The director transformed into a monster! Was there a bug in the machine? The monster began to destroy everything in sight! Better escape while there's still a chance! Head straight back to Miller's prison cell. Unlock the door prior to entry (second to last item, third option) and then head inside. Unlock the cell by using the Jail Key (last item third choice): The cell opened, and the doctor emerged. "Thank you. You saved my life." At that very moment, the building shook violently and the walls began to collapse. Something hit my head and I blcked out. When I came to, I was in Lucero's cabin. "You're awake. Baron Labs was destroyed by the monster. The Doctor is safe, but that monster is approaching the rear of the cabin. Use this to destroy it!" Lucero handed me a missile pod. Head east: The monster is approaching the rear of the cabin! Alright, final battle comences against this green ugly. This creature hits with FIVE freaking dice! Fight back with five dice fired by the Missle Lucero gave you which is fourth in the menu. Should you lose, you'll only wake up in Lucero's cabin with your HP restored and Lucero hands you a monomate. There is no way to get a game over aparently. Trading blow for blow and popping that Monomate or DezolisSoda you have, after a good 100 points of damage it dies with the game reading this message: The monster fell to the ground with a resounding THUD! I've finally won! Several days later, I returned to Paseo. The Doctor, Lila, and Lucero all came to the spaceport to see me off. Lila is smiling at me. You can look around and get this message: I'm in the spaceport waiting for my flight back to Paseo. The Doctor, Lila, and Lucero are here to see me off. If you look at either Lucero or Miller it'll merely comment on how they're smiling and looking happy. If you look at Lila it will tell you shes looking warmly at you. Talk to Lucero and he will say: "I'm glad that's over with. Now I can sleep better." Talk to Miller and he'll say: "The machine not only amplifies the physical but the heart as well. The director became a monster because that's what was in his heart. Talk to Lila and she will say: "Thank you so much for rescuing my brother." Talk to Lucero and again and he will tell you: "Oh, I almost forgot. I found this is in the ruins of the lab. Keep it safe. Lucero grinned and tossed something toward me. "See ya later!" Finally you depart from Dezolis: Goodbye Dezolis. The spaceship I'm on is bound for Paseo on Motavia. The Gold Stone which Lucero tossed to me as we parted shines faintly in the palm of my hand. The key to the machine that spawned that monster, and yet had sparkled so beautifully around Lila's neck. Why did Lucero give it to me instead of Lila? Perhaps he was giving me a mission. "When the danger of the stone being misued has passed, come back to Dezolis and give Lila the light of truth." I closed my hand tightly around the stone. THE END ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And there you have it, you have completed Phantasy Star Adventure. I know it wasn't really related to any of the other Phantasy Star's but it was a decent breath of air for a new take. I'm not really saying its a great game but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed my run through the game. And I certainly hope you did too. If you have any questions at all about the game or would like me to add something to this guide you think would really make it better: contact me at said e-mail above and I will update this guide and add your name to the credits. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Now my gratitude goes towards the following: Sega for producing the Phantasy Star series and this GameGear installment. Gamefaqs and its founder, CJayC for being without a doubt, the ultimate online source for everything games. JDammeier, while I did NOT use any of his translation files, I feel its only fair to mention his name since his translation guide goes hand and hand with this actual walk-through. Of course, my readers no matter how few of you pass and go, thanks for looking. Myself. There is no way I won't indulge in crediting myself!
