I N T R O D U C T I O N Yet another guide for an entirely new FAQ writing experience for me, Silent Hill has always been in my game collection. Back in the year (late 90's), I was enjoying the first installment, and look how far Konami has traveled now. This is the fourth in the series. Silent Hill 4: The Room, has all the new features you would not want to miss. Reading reviews is another thing, playing and enjoying (getting freaked out) the game is another story. This is the second FAQ I'm writing for the Silent Hill series, and since they're a few good complete walkthroughs for the game already, I chose to write an Item List guide for this game. I love this game. I got it immediately when the game was released in my area. None of my friends ever play this game. Makes you wonder why. The only reason is that they personally don't like horror games. Right now, I cannot find any reason to resist a horror experience this good. Resident Evil is good, but Silent Hill has always been the best one for me. Also, please don't confuse Survival Horror and Horror. Well, they're basically the same, but for all we know Silent Hill enemies aren't zombies. They're monsters, ghosts, etc. This time around, you get control of a male character yet again (we've seen Harry Mason, James Sunderland, Heather Mason, and now...), Henry Townshend. He is quite a little shy guy I might add. His perspective of life and the outside world is really interesting, but has the colors of its own. I don't need to explain too much; by the time you start a new game for five minutes, you'll get what I'll be saying later. I suggest you concentrate on the storyline and enjoy the game. It is very much different from others in the series. This FAQ gives an in-depth guide for all the items you will find lying on the floor, requires a task to get it, a key, whatever. Keep an eye for Henry's head as it looks around him for things scattered in an area. This will help you later on in the game, as well as it does for finding weapons. [ 1Ø Coin ] (item_1) Location: Acquire the Filthy Coin, wash it in the sink at the kitchen in Room 302 to get it. Description: 'Toy coin with "1Ø" written on it. Maybe someone meant to write "1$"?' A coin to be used at the vending machine, Subway World 2nd Time, that has the letters "1Ø" written on the front, to obtain the Murder Scene Key. [ Albert's Sports Key ] (item_2) Location: Building World, on a shelf, Garland's Pet Shop (B7). Description: 'Found in the pet shop. It has "Albert's Sports" written on it'. A key which can be used at Albert's Sports shop, Building World, B7. [ Ampoule ] (item_3) Locations: - Hospital World, on the shelves, Supply Room, 1st Floor. - Outside Room 302, in the bathroom of Room 102, 1st Floor. Description: 'Restores a fairly large amount of health. Continues to restore health for a time'. Save one of these for the final boss battle. This is really useful. Much better than the Nutrition Drink or the Portable Medical Kit. It does not heal your health completely, but it does heal around 50%-60% of the life bar, and will continue to work just like when you were filling your health in the apartment, first half. [ Apartment Keys ] (item_4) Location: Apartment World, available (hanging) on a key holder on a portion of a wall, Room 105, 1st Floor. Description: 'Keys to each apartment in the building. Actually, it looks like #303 is missing'. A set of keys that will unlock doors in the apartment. Will work for every single room except rooms 302 (Henry's) and 303 (Eileen's). [ Billiard Ball ] (item_5) Location: Building World 2nd Time, close to the northwest ladder, Under the Elevators (B12). Description: 'It's white with no number on it. That means it's the cue ball'. A ball to be used on the pool table in the Building World 2nd Time, Bar Southfield, B15. [ Blood-Inscribed Spade ] (item_6) Location: Forest World 2nd Time, after giving the Chocolate Milk to Jasper Gein, Wish House. Description: 'Written in blood is: "Opposite where the lake and house meet, inside the hand holding onto the ground"'. It is used at the root of the tree that looks like hands, to obtain the Rusted Bloody Key at Forest World 2nd Time, at the path with the weird tree. [ Broken 3-Iron ] (item_7) Location: Obtain it and use it until it breaks (item changes shape in inventory). Description: 'It's broken and useless as a weapon'. As the description stated it well, this weapon is now nothing but a pain. Its plain useless, so place it in your inventory box. [ Chaos Placard ] (item_20) Location: Building World, on the door with "207" written on, at the top of the Winding Staircase. Description: 'Placard from Building World. It has an abstract picture and says, "Chaos"'. One of the four cards to be used with the Succubus Talisman after the completion of the Apartment World, which opens up a hole which leads to Hospital World. [ Chocolate Milk ] (item_21) Location: Available in the fridge, at the kitchen, Room 302. Description: 'Chocolate-flavored milk. Very sweet. It was in the refrigerator at home'. The Chocolate Milk is not a health supply. Give it to Jasper Gein, and in return he'll give you the Blood-Inscribed Spade, in Forest World. [ Crested Medallion ] (item_22) Location: Forest World 2nd Time, at the statue near the Toluka Lake. Description: 'Medallion with a disturbing emblem carved into it. It's about 10 inches in diameter'. Needed to unlock a door in the Wish House, Forest World 2nd Time, to the altar. [ Cynthia's Commuter Ticket ] (item_23) Location: Subway World 2nd Time, Turnstiles, on the floor, at the scattered things, King Street Side (B1). Description: 'Commuter ticket for the subway's King Street and Lynch Street Lines. Can be used multiple times'. Acts the same as the coins for the Lynch Street Line, but the Commuter Ticket can be used for both the King Street and Lynch Street Lines, for infinite times. [ Doll Key ] (item_24) Location: Room 302, in the bedroom; pick up the "Red Diary Scrap (cont.)" memo, beside the bed near the window. Description: 'Key with a girl's doll keychain attached. "303" is engraved on it'. Unlocks Eileen's apartment, Room 303, in Apartment World. [ Doll's Head ] (item_25) Location: Forest World 2nd Time, while having the torch lit, use it to see inside the well at the path before the cemetery. Description: 'A wooden doll's head. It's charred and blackened'. This is one of the five parts that can be used at the wheelchair doll at the Burned Wish House at Forest World 2nd Time, to open the underground passage to the Wish House Altar. [ Doll's Left Arm ] (item_26) Location: Forest World 2nd Time, while having the torch lit, use it to see inside the well at the path with the hanging stuff. Description: 'Left arm from a wooden doll. It's charred and blackened'. This is one of the five parts that can be used at the wheelchair doll at the Burned Wish House at Forest World 2nd Time, to open the underground passage to the Wish House Altar. [ Doll's Left Leg ] (item_27) Location: Forest World 2nd Time, while having the torch lit, use it to see inside the well at dead end (south) pathway. Description: 'Left leg from a wooden doll. It's charred and blackened'. This is one of the five parts that can be used at the wheelchair doll at the Burned Wish House at Forest World 2nd Time, to open the underground passage to the Wish House Altar. [ Doll's Right Arm ] (item_28) Location: Forest World 2nd Time, while having the torch lit, use it to see inside the well at the cliff (northeast). Description: 'Right arm from a wooden doll. It's charred and blackened'. This is one of the five parts that can be used at the wheelchair doll at the Burned Wish House at Forest World 2nd Time, to open the underground passage to the Wish House Altar. [ Doll's Right Leg ] (item_29) Location: Forest World 2nd Time, while having the torch lit, use it to see inside the well outside the coal mine and the wish house. Description: 'Right leg from a wooden doll. It's charred and blackened'. This is one of the five parts that can be used at the wheelchair doll at the Burned Wish House at Forest World 2nd Time, to open the underground passage to the Wish House Altar. [ Filthy Coin ] (item_30) Location: Subway World 2nd Time, Lynch Street Line, at the subway car where there's a box with "1000Ø" written on it; the Filthy Key is inside - use the Toy Key to get it open. Description: 'Coin caked with dirt and grime. I bet I could clean it in the kitchen sink in my room'. Bring this back to Room 302, and get to the kitchen. Use the Filthy Coin and you'll get the 1Ø Coin. [ Ghost's Key ] (item_31) Location: Building World, held by Victim-10's ghost (B3). Description: 'The key that the ghost was holding'. It is used to unlock a door to pass through the area you got the key. [ Holy Candle ] (item_32) Locations: - Hospital World, in one of the rooms on the second floor; the candle is behind a vase, which is on the floor of that room. - Subway World 2nd Time, on the shelf of Generator Room (B1). - Subway World 2nd Time, Lynch Street Line, Maintenance Room (B3). - Subway World 2nd Time, Lynch Street Line, Northeast/Northwest subway cars, at the side from the west platform. - Forest World 2nd Time, at the wheelchair doll, at the burned Wish House. - Forest World 2nd Time, at the cliff (northeast). - Water Prison World 2nd Time, one of the cells on 3rd Floor. - Water Prison World 2nd Time, one of the cells on 2nd Floor. - Water Prison World 2nd Time, one of the cells on 1st Floor. - Building World 2nd Time, at the top floor of the Interior Staircase C. - Building World 2nd Time, Exterior Elevator Access (B12), southeast of the corner of the area. - Building World 2nd Time, at the corner of the Storage Room (B5). - Building World 2nd Time, at the top floor of the Hotel South Ashfield (B1/B2/B3). - Outside Room 302, at the bedroom of Room 206, 2nd Floor. - Outside Room 302, situated on the kitchen counter, Room 106, 1st Floor. Description: 'Special candle with anti-spirit effects. Begins working shortly after being lit and placed down'. Useful for exorcising hauntings in Henry's apartment. Save thee whenever you can. You don't have to bring it to the levels, unless for rare circumstances, like healing Eileen for an instance. Make sure you're doing it right. To exorcise a haunting, get closer to it until the screen turns blurry a little (try to do this fast since staying close to them long enough would hurt you). Now, face downwards on the floor, and use it (square button). Wait for the candle to wear off and the haunting would be gone. Can also clean two hauntings if they're close enough for double-cleaning! [ Hospital Room Key ] (item_33) Location: Hospital World, one of the random rooms on second floor, hanging from a snake statue. Description: 'Key found in hospital. It's probably the key to Eileen's hospital room'. Used for Eileen's hospital room. You have to check all the random placed rooms on the second floor until you find the snake statue and obtain the key for her hospital room, which is locked of course. [ Keys of Liberation ] (item_34) Location: Located inside the hidden room, after using the Pickaxe of Hope at the wall; the keys are inside the pocket of Walter Sullivan's corpse. Examine it until Henry confirms the keys. Description: 'Extremely evil-looking keys held by the corpse of Walter'. The keys to unlock the chains by the entrance door of Room 302, thus unlocking the next level (world). [ Locker Key #106 ] (item_35) Location: Apartment World, at the red photo of the nurse, Room 106, 3rd Floor. Description: 'It looks lime a locker key. "106" is written on it'. Opens the locker 106 on the 1st Floor main area, Apartment World. [ Lynch Street Line Coin ] (item_36) Location: Subway World, examine the mannequin sitting in one of the toilets, Women's Washroom (B1), after returning from Room 302, obtaining the Pistol. Description: 'Train token for the subway's Lynch Street Line. Can be used any number of times'. The Lynch Street Line coins are for the Lynch Street Line only. Use it to get through and to exit through it. It can be used for infinite number of times. [ Murder Scene Key ] (item_37) Location: Subway World 2nd Time, Lynch Street Line (East, B3), obtained from the vending machine with the "1Ø" written on the front, using the 1Ø Coin on the vending machine. Description: 'Key from the vending machine. The tag on it says, "Murder Scene"'. [ Nurse Uniform ] (item_38) Location: Outside Room 302, Room 303, on the chair next to the television, 3rd Floor. Appears [ONLY] in a Brand New Fear Game, and only if unlocked. See the explanation below. Description: 'Clothes found in Eileen's room'. Unlocks Eileen's Nurse Costume. [[(( Info on Unlocking Eileen's Nurse Costume ))]] (info_1) The first condition to meet in order to unlock the costume is, by all means, finishing the game at least once to unlock the Brand New Fear Game. You can tell you're playing a Brand New Fear game when the text stating your progress when you save your game is written in yellow. Once you do this, the next condition to meet is to obtain the [Escape] ending or the [Mother] ending. These two ends with Eileen saved. This means you must save Eileen at the end. Then, after these two conditions are met, the next game you play, loading from the same saved file with the Brand New Fear Game, you will find it in the [Outside Room 302] level, in Eileen room, Room 303 at the chair next to the television, if everything is done properly. It raises the life bar a bit, but you may only use it when you reached the second half of the game, since you might run out of it when you cannot heal yourself in your apartment anymore. The Nutrition Drink heals around 20% - 25% of your life bar. [ Pickaxe of Hope ] (item_40) Location: Room 302 of the Past, after the cut-scene with Joseph, on the wall. Description: '"Hope" is written on the handle. It doesn't look like I can use it as a weapon'. This is the Pickaxe of Hope. Don't confuse yourself with Pickaxe of Despair that you can equip as a weapon. This on the other hand, cannot. You have to use the Pickaxe of Hope on the wall between your bedroom and your bathroom. It is the wall where it was cracked in Room 302 of the Past, where the bedroom on your left and the bathroom on your right. [ Portable Medical Kit ] (item_41) Locations: - Forest World, near the Toluka Lake, on the ground. - Apartment World, on the bed, Room 106, 1st Floor. - Hospital World, on the coffee table, Doctor's Lounge, 1st Floor. - Subway World 2nd Time, on the stairs near the blocked stairway (B2). - Water Prison World 2nd Time, near the hole, Waterwheel Room. - Building World 2nd Time, near the fence, Exterior Alleyway A (B12). - Building World 2nd Time, at the bottom of the Winding Staircase, close to the door (Halo of the Sun). - Outside Room 302, on the bed, Room 106, 1st Floor. - Outside Room 302, Room 104, 1st Floor. Description: 'Heals your body by repairing Wounds'. The Portable Medical Kit would heal yourself more than what the Nutrition Drink would. Keep it and bring it with you on the second half of the game. Use this wisely since this is the best average healing supply you've got, excluding the Ampoule which you seldom find in the game. [ Prisoner's Shirt ] (item_42) Location: Water Prison World 2nd Time, Death Chamber (B1). Description: 'Something is written on it in wax. Maybe if you soak it in some kind of colored liquid...' Using this at the bathtub (bloody) in Room 302's bathroom would give you the 'Note from the Bloody Prisoner's Shirt' memo. Note that what you get is a memo, not an item, therefore it is not listed in this FAQ. Now, it's essential to do this task since it will make the ghost of Andrew DeSalvo (Victim 18) appear when you get back (he holds the key you need to exit), and to let the Sword of Obedience appear on the 2nd Floor cell with the bottles (filled with gunpowder). The key is required to unlock the generator room. [ Red Paper ] (item_43) Locations: - Apartment World, on the desk in the main room area, Room 301. - Apartment World, in a box in the main room area, Room 105. Description: 'Just red paper with nothing written on it... I'll stick it under Room 302's door'. Get to the door of Henry's apartment, and use one of these (or both) at it. Later when you return back to your room through the hole, you'll be able to read the content and it acts as a memo. [ Rusted Bloody Key ] (item_44) Location: Forest World, the path with the weird tree; use the Blood-Inscribed Spade on the "hands" coming off the ground at the area, and you'll obtain the key. Description: 'Rusted and bloody key. Inscribed on it is: "The holder of this key will wander for eternity"'. The key that is used to unlock the Wish House, in Forest World. [ Saint Medallion ] (item_45) Locations: - Water Prison World, Interior Spiral Staircase, somewhere between the middle section (on the ground) between B1 and B2. - Hospital World, one of the random rooms on second floor with the light coming through a window. - Subway World 2nd Time, Lynch Street Line, Southeast/Northeast subway cars (B3), on the floor, south-most area of the west car. - Forest World 2nd Time, close to where Jasper sits on your first visit to the Forest World, the path with strange rocks. - Water Prison World 2nd Time, on a bench, Dining Hall (B1). - Building World 2nd Time, area with the water tower (B12), east part of the water tower area, base of the water tower. - Outside Room 302, Room 201 and Room 301, (2nd Floor, 3rd Floor), in Room 301. Description: 'Can be equipped along with a weapon. Anti-spirit effects while held, but will eventually break'. Slows down ghost enemies while having this equipped in the levels. Can also be used to exorcise the ghosts in Room 302, but will break easily if used for long enough. Item changes depending on how worn out it is. [[(( Additional Info on Saint Medallions ))]] (info_2) The Saint Medallion will wear off if used too much. The Saint Medallion gets rid of the blurry vision Henry gets (headache) when he's near a ghost, or a haunting. Here's how the Saint Medallion will look like when it's used, in the inventory: New - Saint Medallion shines. Large or small crack - Used a little, used up quite much. Faint - Saint Medallion about to break. [ Shabby Doll ] (item_46) Location: Apartment World, by the stairway and the main area (3rd/2nd/1st Floors). There should be a man (with a coat) sitting there. Talk to him and he'll place it on the stairway, on the floor. He has something to say, so you can listen to him if you want, then you can take the doll. Description: 'Old doll given by the man sitting on the apartment's stairway'. Don't take it. That's my advice if you don't want to waste your time clearing hauntings in your apartment room. Keeping this in the storage box will make a haunting appear on it, thus you have to clean it if you want to keep things or take things from the box again, or you can just pass through it and hurt yourself a little (if you stay too long). This doll is completely useless. There's nothing to it. [ "Skinned Mike" Cassette ] (item_47) Location: Apartment World, on coffee table, Room 205, 2nd Floor. Description: 'Audiocassette with "Skinned Mike" on the label'. You can listen to it at Room 302; while looking at the radio, use the cassette. Here's the conversation between Richard Braintree from Room 207, and a few other people: Richard: "How do you like that, you sick little freak? You had it comin' to you! These clothes are disgusting. Get 'em outta my sight!" Woman: "I know... It'll be perfect to wrap his body in." Man: "Hold it. Hold it... I think I'll keep that one for myself." Richard: "You! You snoopin' around again?! Get your ass outta here before you really piss me off!" [ Small Key ] (item_48) Location: Room 302, main room area, near the door after getting Eileen to enter the hole back to the apartment. The key is inside the 'Red Diary - July 20' memo. Description: 'Small but ordinary key found in the red envelope'. The Small Key unlocks a door at the Hospital World, 1st Floor Lobby, inside the elevator shaft. [ Source Placard ] (item_49) Location: Forest World, after picking up the memo and at the door with the smoke coming out, inside the Wish House. Removing it (and opening the door) will lead to Jasper Gein's death cut-scene. Description: 'Placard from Forest World. It shows a baby and says, "Source"'. One of the four cards to be used with the Succubus Talisman after the completion of the Apartment World, which opens up a hole which leads to Hospital World. [ Spear of the Holy Mother ] (item_50) Location: In the Chamber of the 21 Sacraments, located around the arena after using the Umbilical Cord on Walter's true body (the big monster) which will release these spears, all eight of them. Description: 'Spear with "Holy Mother" carved into it. The "Crimson Tome" says that I have to stick eight of these spears into Walter's body'. Use all eight of the spears on Walter's true body (the monster) to break Walter's Immortality. You can then kill him while he's in this state. [ Stuffed Cat ] (item_51} Location: Building World 2nd Time, Eric Walsh's home (B3). Description: 'Stuffed cat with droopy ears'. Use the Stuffed Cat at "Garland's" Pet Shop (B7) at the cage, at Building World 2nd Time. [ Succubus Talisman ] (item_52) Location: Room 302, after the completion of the Apartment World, slipped under the door. Description: 'Card with some kind of frightening demon on it'. As soon as obtaining this, get to your Laundry Room. There should be a stain on an empty wall (check for it with the circle button if you wish). Place the Succubus Talisman on it and four slots should appear. Use the four Placards you collected from the Subway, Forest, Water Prison, and the Apartment Worlds on the four slots that would appear after placing the Succubus Talisman on the wall with the stain. [[(( Using the Placards ))]] (info_3) The sequence is easy to detect. Examine the slots and you should get the hints. There're four Placards, and they all have the "title" of their won. So, putting them in order is easy. Place the Succubus Talisman on the stain, and have all four of the Placards in your inventory. Place them into the right slot by examining each empty slot and look for the "title" they hold. Check the cards. There should be "Temptation", "Source", "Watchfulness" and "Chaos". Place them in the correct slots by examining each one and follow the "titles" they hold, and the new hole should appear. [ Sword of Obedience ] (item_53) Locations: - Building World, Erich Walsh home, stuck to Victim-10's body. - Building World, Interior Hallway B (B8) at the end of the hallway. - Subway World 2nd Time, Kind Street Line, leaning against a wall before the door with the cut-scene with Walter Sullivan (Man with the Coat). - Water Prison World 2nd Time, after washing the Bloody Prisoner's Shirt, and obtaining the Note from the Bloody Prisoner's Shirt, the sword will appear at the 2nd Floor cell with the bottles filled with gunpowder, under the bed in the cell. - Outside Room 302, in the bedroom on the floor, Room 202, 2nd Floor. Description: 'Extremely rare sword. When used against downed ghosts, it stops them in place. When pulled out, the ghost is revived'. [ Temptation Placard ] (item_54) Location: Subway World, Turnstiles, King Street Side (B1), on the door near the mess with Cynthia's belongings. Description: 'Placard from Subway World. It shows a woman and says, "Temptation"'. One of the four cards to be used with the Succubus Talisman after the completion of the Apartment World, which opens up a hole which leads to Hospital World. [ Toy Key ] (item_56) Location: Room 302, with the "Kid's Letter" memo after the Hospital World, after returning to the Subway World 2nd Time, once. Description: 'A key-shaped plastic kids' toy'. The key that opens the box in the Northeast/Northwest subway car with the "1000Ø" written on it, getting you the Filthy Coin inside it, to be used at the vending machine with the "1Ø" written on it. [ Train Handle ] (item_57) Location: Subway World 2nd Time, office of the King Street Line (B1), lying on the ground. Description: 'Handle from the King Street Line train. It's like a key needed to run the train'. Use the Train Handle on the driver's compartment car at the front of the train of the King Street Line subway area, to be able to obtain an access to a new passage. [ Umbilical Cord ] (item_58) Location: Outside Room 302, on the bookshelf, Superintendent's Room, Room 105, First Floor. Description: 'Walter Sullivan umbilical cord. The superintendent has kept it for years'. Use the Umbilical Cord on the monster, Walter Sullivan's true body, to release all eight of the spears which you must use on the monster. [ Volleyball ] (item_59) Location: Building World 2nd Time, area with water tower (B12), close to the door, where the camera switches angle to zoom to it.
