Introduction ** ******************************************************************************* Hideyoshi Toyotomi is recognized as the unifier of Japan. His character in the game doesn't differ much from his historical self. He's an oddball monkey, but aside from that he is very crafty and shrewd. Now complete with his signature helmet, Hideyoshi becomes a major character in Samurai Warriors 2, where he desires to create a land where everyone can be happy. Hideyoshi may have a quirky behavior, but he has a good heart. Hideyoshi's movements really are comparable to that of a monkey, making him a fun character to play with. The way he mounts a horse is amusing. Hideyoshi has little strength and defense, but he makes up for this with his speed and attack range. ******************************************************************************* ** 2. History Lesson ** ******************************************************************************* This is a pretty extensive bio on Hideyoshi and believe it or not, I did leave a lot of stuff out. If you are interested, follow the links provided at the end of this section for more information on Hideyoshi Toyotomi. I know this section is pretty long and you may not think it necessary to have all this information on the historical character when this FAQ is supposed the detail the game character, however, the game character was based off of the historical character. And this section may show how the character in the game was created and developed into the story. Hideyoshi Toyotomi - 1536-1598 Hideyoshi Toyotomi provides a marvelous example of a rags to riches story. He was born in a village called Nakamura in the Owari Province as the son of a peasant/foot soldier, with no traceable samurai lineage. His childhood name was Hiyoshimaru, but he changed it to Tokichiro Kinoshita for his coming of age. Kinoshita was actually a name he made up so he could enter service since peasants did not have surnames. He began serving a lord of the Imagawa clan, only to run away to Owari with a sum of money entrusted to him. There, he joined Nobunaga Oda as a lowly servant, but his resourcefulness and talent did not go unnoticed by Nobunaga and he would soon rise to fame, despite his peasant background. Tokichiro acted as Nobunaga's sandal bearer at the Battle of Okehazema and later, now known as Hideyoshi Kinoshita, he was able to bribe a number of Mino warlords to desert the Saito. One of Hideyoshi's most famed accomplishments was his legendary construction of Sunomata Castle. It is rumored to have been built in just one night, but that probability is unlikely in reality. It was more likely to have been done in three months, which is still remarkable enough. Nonetheless, with the castle in place, he discovered a route to the rear of Inabayama Castle, leading to its capture and the defeat of the Saito. By now, Nobunaga has become very impressed with Hideyoshi's abilities. Some time later, Hideyoshi Kinoshita became Hideyoshi Hashiba. He created this new surname by borrowing characters from the names of two Oda retainers, Nagahide Niwa and Katsuie Shibata. These two officers were thought to be perfect and by combining their names, Hideyoshi sought to rise above and beyond them. By this time, he was also married to a woman named Nene and his mother was also remarried and produced his trusted half-brother, Hidenaga. Hideyoshi's physical features were similar to those of a monkey and because of this, Nobunaga often called him "Saru", meaning monkey. Hideyoshi earned plenty of battlefield experience over the next few years, flying his "golden gourd" standard during the war with the Azai and Asakura. While Oda forces were marching against the Asakura, Nobunaga was ambushed by his brother-in-law, Nagamasa Azai, as well as the warrior monks of Mount Hiei. He had no choice other than to retreat, but there was no where he could have escaped with an army as large as his. So Hideyoshi volunteered to distract the enemy while Nobunaga escapes. He captured a small fort called Kanegasaki and harrassed the three armies of the Asakura, Azai, and warrior monks while Nobunaga made his escape. Now Hideyoshi was isolated and surrounded by three angry forces. Nobunaga thought that Hideyoshi must have died, but three days later he arrived in Kyoto with most of his men, starving and exhausted. Hideyoshi made this escape by marching out of the fort and challenging the Asakura army. Then he fled back into the fort and led his men out the rear gate and fled as fast as he could to Kyoto. From then on, when Hideyoshi's battle standard of the "golden gourd" was spotted, Nobunaga already concluded victory, for it meant Hideyoshi was there. By 1576, the Oda had gone to war with the Mori and Hideyoshi was ordered to co-command a campaign along with Mitsuhide Akechi. Both of these men enjoyed independence of command during this campaign, an honor Nobunaga rarely gave to his commanders. For the next few years, Hideyoshi continued pushing back the large forces of the Mori, although being heavily outnumbered through much of the war. In 1582, he besieged Takamatsu Castle, a fortress the Mori thought to be absolutely necessary to their defense. Takamatsu was held by Muneharu Shimizu, a dedicated warrior who could not be swayed by bribery or threats. However, Takamatsu lied on a flat plain just below sea level so Hideyoshi had the nearby Ashimorigawa damned up and its waters diverted around the castle, isolating Shimizu. Terumoto Mori soon arrived himself, but hesitated to make a movement. Meanwhile, Hideyoshi bombarded the castle with constant rifle fire. Hideyoshi was still concerned about the menacing threat the Mori army posed and sent for reinforcements. Nobunaga obliged his request and sent a number of contingents, including Mitsuhide Akechi, who decided to instead lead his troops to attack Nobunaga Oda himself. June, 1582, Nobunaga Oda died due to the attack by Mitsuhide Akechi. Mitsuhide wanted the Mori to hear of this news first for his own benefit, however his messenger was intercepted by Hideyoshi. He wanted to immediately rush after Mitsuhide, but he was still stuck in a battle with the Mori. He decided to negotiate a peace with them so he could go after Mitsuhide, but he knew the Mori would never negotiate unless Takamatsu fell. So in order to speed things up, Hideyoshi promised Muneharu Shimizu that his wife and family would be spared if he surrendered, and becoming aware of the hardships his men were facing under the harsh conditions, Muneharu slit his belly open in front of both armies. Thus, Takamatsu was secured by Hideyoshi. After hastily making negotiations with the Mori, Hideyoshi raced after Mitsuhide, catching him off guard at Yamazaki. Mitsuhide was unable to secure the support he had hoped for and was defeated and killed. Hideyoshi was then able to present Mitsuhide's head at the grave of Nobunaga Oda. The question of who would succeed Nobunaga was intensely argued upon by Hideyoshi and Katsuie Shibata. Katsuie supported Nobunaga's third son, Nobutaka Oda, while Hideyoshi supported Hidenobu Oda, the son of Nobutada Oda. Nobutada was Nobunaga's original heir, but he unfortunately shared his father's fate at Honnoji. Many of Nobunaga's chief retainers supported Hideyoshi, creating hostility between him and Katsuie. Katsuie returned to Echizen to strategize against Hideyoshi. He secured the support of Nobutaka Oda and Kazumasu Takigawa, but failed to win the support of many others he had hoped for. He was still in a position that could match Hideyoshi, especially since Hideyoshi's support would dwindle if he apeared to encounter difficulty due to his simple background. This did not go beyond Hideyoshi's notice and due to discrete threats made by Hideyoshi, Nobutaka panicked and moved to attack him. This was a big mistake since the passes from Echizen were still covered in snow. Due to this action, Kazumasu Takigawa turned to support Hideyoshi. In turn, Hideyoshi quickly surrounded Gifu Castle and Nobutaka surrendered. A number of battles went on from there leading up to Shizugatake where Hideyoshi's forced march surprised Katsuie and caused him to seal himself up in his castle where he took his life. His wife and sister to Nobunaga, Oichi, joined him, but her daughters to Nagamasa Azai were released. Hidenobu Oda was soon just forgotten about and Hideyoshi Hashiba became the true successor to Nobunaga. However, Nobunaga's other son, Nobukatsu, allied himself with Ieyasu Tokugawa and defied Hideyoshi. They clashed at the Battle of Komaki-Nagakute, which ended in a stalemate. However, Nobukatsu was losing land and decided to make peace with Hideyoshi before he lost everything and Ieyasu had little choice but to do the same. Hideyoshi soon took to a number of tasks to consolidate his domain including, conquering the island of Shikoku and receiving a number of promotions from the imperial court, including the rank of Kampaku (regent). He wanted to be named Shogun, but he was unable to be given such a rank because of his peasant origins. Hideyoshi Hashiba soon changed his name again to Hideyoshi Toyotomi, meaning "Bountiful Minister". Now only two forces remained in Hideyoshi's way to unifying the land. The Hojo of Kanto and the Shimazu of Kyushu. Hideyoshi first went down to Kyushu to subdue the Shimazu and they soon surrendered to him. The leader of the Shimazu, Yoshihisa, was forced to give up his position to his younger brother, Yoshihiro. While in Kyushu, Hideyoshi sensed a possible threat from Christian influences and issued the Christian Expulsion Edict, which forced all Christian missionaries to leave the country. This did not ban the religion in Japan, however. It only banned forced conversions, but still allowed landholders to become Christian with permission. Delving in his role as the "Bountiful Minister", Hideyoshi often performed in plays about his life, and studied the tea ceremony and poetry. He even hosted an event called the Grand Kitano Tea Ceremony, which showcased some of the finest tea items and Hideyoshi himself served tea to several lucky individuals. Hideyoshi had also been strengthening the imperial court in exchange for them providing him with legitimacy. Hideyoshi, a former peasant, visiting the emperor of Japan annoyed many people. Hideyoshi began a domestic campaign known as the Great Sword Hunt. This act ordered all peasants to disarm completely. Only warriors were allowed to bear weapons now. This was done to prevent uprisings. And to appease the Buddhist monks, who had a history of constant insurrections, he melted down many of the collected weapons to build a giant statue of Buddha. Hideyoshi also drew a very strict line between the villager and the warrior. A member of either group was forbidden to cross over to the other. A national survey and census was also issued. Once the citizens were registered they were forbidden to leave their respective provinces without permission. Another step to prevent bandits from roaming around. Hideyoshi also abolished slavery, replacing it with contract and indentured labor. In 1590, Hideyoshi was finally prepared to finish off the Hojo, who were the last major threat to the Toyotomi. The Hojo refused to surrender and took to the strategy of keeping within the defenses of Odawara Castle, which had proved successful in numerous past invasions. However, after a three month siege, the Hojo finally gave in and surrendered. The Sengoku Era had officially come to an end with Hideyoshi Toyotomi unifying the land. Just like Nobunaga, Hideyoshi saw impressive structures as a symbol of power and Osaka Castle was constructed, becoming one of the greatest castles ever built in Japan. When Hideyoshi's infant son to Lady Yodo (daughter of Oichi and Nagamasa Azai), Tsurumatsu, died, he had to find a new heir to his realm. His brother Hidenaga died soon after as well, and Hideyoshi adopted his nephew, Hidetsugu, and named him his heir. Hideyoshi also took the rank of Taiko (retired regent) and gave Hidetsugu his former rank of Kampaku. Hideyoshi had aspirations of invading China, and asked for permission to march Japanese soldiers through the Korean peninsula. This request was not granted and in 1592, Toyotomi forces invaded Korea. The Korean invasion was going well at first, but was eventually proving difficult due to Korean guerillas, Chinese troops, and the Korean navy. Hideyoshi then sought to negotiate and withdrew his forces from Korea. In 1593, Hideyoshi's second son to Lady Yodo was born, Hideyori. Hideyoshi devoted much of his time to Hideyori, but then he realized the potential of a succession war between Hideyori and Hidetsugu after his death. He decided to send Hidetsugu to Mount Koya and ordered him to commit suicide. Any of his family members who did not follow suit, were killed. Thus, Hideyori became the absolute heir. Hideyoshi ordered another invasion Korea, but in 1598 he fell ill. He formed a council of five regents to rule until Hideyori was old enough to take over. They consisted of Ieyasu Tokugawa, Toshiie Maeda, Terumoto Mori, Hideie Ukita, and Kagekatsu Uesugi, and each of them signed a pledge of loyalty to Hideyori. Soon after, Hideyoshi Toyotomi died and the invasion of Korea was again called off. He hoped the five regents would keep one another in check. He especially relied on Toshiie Maeda, however he died as well in 1599, which led to the council of regents to break up. Ieyasu Tokugawa then rose to power and took the title of Shogun in 1603. Hideyori resided in Osaka Castle until 1615, until Ieyasu finally attacked him. After two sieges, Hideyori Toyotomi committed suicide along with his mother, Lady Yodo. The Toyotomi clan had been officially eliminated. Hideyoshi Toyotomi was a remarkable figure in Japanese history and remains such to this day. Hideyoshi is often portrayed as a hero and a creator of a golden age, and aside from his Korean invasions, he deserves much of this acclaim. Many of his policies and initiatives were left in place, which made the Tokugawa shogunate possible. Hideyoshi Toyotomi's cultural legacy lived on and he remains a very large figure in Japanese history. Unlocking Hideyoshi ** ******************************************************************************* To unlock Hideyoshi you need to complete Story Mode with Mitsunari Ishida. ******************************************************************************* ** 4. Move List ** ******************************************************************************* This is a description of Hideyoshi's moveset. Move Lists start out small and then increase with newer attacks as you level your character. I first listed his original moveset and then followed with what it becomes at its maximum growth. The Move List's type refers to what type of attack the character's main development reflects. And as a note, S refers to the Square button and T refers to the Triangle button. Type: Normal The main development is found in the number of linked attacks. Initial Move List: Normal Attack- S - S - S - S \ \ \ Charge Attack- T T T T Special 1- R1 + S Earn gold easily by defeating enemies Special 2- R1 + T Lower enemies' defense but raise their attack Final Move List: Normal Attack- S - S - S - S - S - S - S - S - S - S - S - S \ \ \ \ \ \ \ Charge Attack- T T T T T T T T Special 1- R1 + S Earn gold easily by defeating enemies Special 2- R1 + T Lower enemies' defense but raise their attack Normal Attacks: Hideyoshi's normal attack set is relatively the same attack repeated so I just split it up into where it gets a subtle change. SSSSSSS: Hideyoshi attacks with his staff by swinging it horizontally and spinning around. SSSSSSS+SSSS: Hideyoshi attacks with his staff by swinging it horizontally and spinning around, followed by him moving forward and spinning the end sections of his three sectioned staff forward. SSSSSSS+SSSS+S: Hideyoshi attacks with his staff by swinging it horizontally and spinning around, followed by him moving forward and spinning the end sections of his three sectioned staff forward, and ending with thusting his staff forward. Running + S: Hideyoshi jumps forward and spins around with his staff. Jump + S: Hideyoshi swings his staff downward. Charge Attacks: T: Hideyoshi jumps up and slams his staff in the ground. S+T: Hideyoshi knocks the enemy in the air with his staff. SS+T: Hideyoshi thrusts his staff forward. SSS+T: Hideyoshi swings his staff and then swings it all around him. SSSS+T: Hideyoshi jumps in the air with a pulse of energy knocking enemies into the air. SSSSS+T: Hideyoshi rushes forward and swings his staff across, twice. SSSSSS+T: Hideyoshi grabs and flips over the enemy in front of him and throws them forward. Comment: This is pretty much Hideyoshi's only move that does a decent amount of damage, despite just being a throw. This move also breaks through an enemy's guard and still throws them making it very useful against officers who block a lot. SSSSSSS+T: Hideyoshi swings his staff across forward twice and ends the attack by swinging it all around him. Jump + T: Hideyoshi slams his staff in the ground. Special Attacks: R1 + S: This makes it possible for defeated enemies to drop gold when they are defeated. It only allows for the chance to drop it, they don't always drop. They usually only drop pieces worth 5 gold and occasionally 25. This isn't very useful unless you are in great need of gold and use it often. R1 + T: Lowers the defense of enemies, but raises their attacks. This can be like a double-edged sword. Hideyoshi has little attack and defense, so it could make it easier to defeat officers or stronger soldiers quickly. However, it also does the same for them pretty much. If you're in a position where you can dish out a lot of attacks without being hit, then this is a useful move. But if you're fighting a strong officer in hyper mode who is also accompanied by a large group of soldiers, then it can be risky. Musou Attack: Samurai Warriors 2 has a new feature. Instead of filling one Musou Gauge, there will be a maximum of three gauges to fill. Each one higher will give a stronger Musou attack than the last. You'll start off with one and as you level your character it will grow into the next two. You may still also tap the O button to perform normal attacks with the Musou effect or you may hold the O button to perform the character's own Musou attack. This here is Ginchiyo's own Musou. One Gauge: Hideyoshi hops around and swings his staff around each time he hits the ground, followed by an area attack. Two Gauges: Hideyoshi hops around and swings his staff around each time he hits the ground, followed by an area attack. The range, power, and length of this one is increased. Three Gauges: Hideyoshi hops around and swings his staff around each time he hits the ground, accompanined by powerful bolts striking down the area around him and ending with an area attack. The range, power, and length of this one is increased. Double/True Musou: This is just like his regular musou except the damage is increased with an extra lightning element charge and before he does his area attack he spins around while swinging his staff around a few times. ******************************************************************************* ** 5. Hideyoshi's Tale ** ******************************************************************************* In this section I will walk you through Hideyoshi's Story Mode. I will show the story for each stage, the victory and defeat conditions, the officers attending the battle, and I will give a step by step guide on a good way to proceed through the battle. And note that these stages were done on the Normal difficulty setting. Other difficulties and circumstances may change the way the stage goes for you, but these will just provide a basic guide. Feel free to play the stages however you want to though. "Hey, it could happen." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Chapter 1: Battle of Yamazaki - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I shall avenge lord Nobunaga, and then..." Toyotomi Army VS Akechi Army Nobunaga saw potential in one of his lesser servants and decided to make him one of his officers. Eager to please Nobunaga, this former sandal-bearer demonstrated great abiity and eventually came to command a campaign in the west. This man's name was Hideyoshi. However, it was while Hideyoshi was busy fighting in the western campaigns that Nobunaga would be betrayed and killed by Mitsuhide Akechi, one of his best and most trusted retainers. "I must kill Mitsuhide to avenge my lord's death!" shouted Hideyoshi as he headed towards Yamazaki... Conditions: Victory: Defeat Mitsuhide. Defeat: Hideyoshi or Hidenaga is defeated. -Toyotomi Army- -Akechi Army- Hideyoshi Toyotomi Mitsuhide Akechi Magoichi Saika Sadayuki Atsuji Mitsunari Ishida Shigetomo Akechi Nene Kaneaki Mimaki Kiyomasa Kato Yasuie Namikawa Hidenaga Hashiba Masachika Matsuda Hidemasa Hori Hidemitsu Akechi Masanori Fukushima Reinforcements- Reinforcements- Nobuharu Tsuda Sakon Shima Toshimitsu Saito Katsusada Shibata Kunitsugu Yasuda Sadaoki Ise 1) Begin by running over to Kaneaki Mimaki and defeating him. Defeat the Reserve Captain in the south and one of the Defense Captain guarding the gates of Shoryuji. You will have been prompted by yourself to seize Mt. Tenno before the enemy, but don't worry about that right now. You should have plenty of time. 2) You'll get a mission to capture Shoryuji. Do so by defeating Sadayuki Atsuji. Defeat the Reserve Captain as well. 3) Nobuharu Tsuda will arrive in the south. A mistake for him because now you should go over and beat him up. 4) Head up and defeat that Reserve Captain in the middle just for fun and then take out Yasuie Namikawa and Masachika Matsuda, who are on their way to Mt. Tenno. 5) An ambush unit will have appeared heading for Shoryuji, but before dealing with them, run up the mountain and seize Mt. Tenno. Afterwards, Sakon Shima will arrive as your ally. 6) Go defeat Toshimitsu Saito and Satsusada Shibata to protect Shoryuji. Another ambush unit will appear, this time heading for Mt. Tenno. 7) Don't waste a lot of time now. You won't have many troops gurading Mt. Tenno and you don't want to lose it, although Kiyomasa Kato is on his way. Once you get up to Mt. Tenno you'll get a mission to escort him to the top. Defeat Kunitsugu Yasuda and Sadaoki Ise, as well as all the enemy troops in his path so he may get there safely. 8) Jump off the mountain and defeat Shigetomo Akechi and Hidemistu Akechi. 9) Take out the remaining Reserve Captains if you want, then storm Mitsuhide Akechi's camp and murder that treacherous rat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Chapter 2: Battle of Shizugatake - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Why Oichi, you've gone to such trouble just to see me again." Toyotomi Army VS Shibata Army Hideyoshi avenged his late lord's death at the Battle of Yamazaki. He then swore to create a new realm where he would bring happiness to the people. Nobunaga's younger sister, Oichi, was not pleased to hear of Hideyoshi's plans to rule the land and prepared to take action. She set out to attack, bringing the great Katsuie Shibata along to assist her. In order to realize his dreams, Hideyoshi headed for Shizugatake to meet them in battle... Conditions: Victory: Defeat Katsuie. Defeat: Main Camp is captured. -Toyotomi Army- -Shibata Army- Hideyoshi Toyotomi Katsuie Shibata Mitsunari Ishida Oichi Nene Keiji Maeda Masanori Fukushima Toshiie Maeda Kiyomasa Kato Toshinaga Maeda Nagahide Niwa Morimasa Sakuma Hidemasa Hori Katsumasa Shibata Hidenaga Hashiba Nagachika Kanamori Shigetomo Takayama Nagayori Hara Kiyohide Nakagawa Katsumitsu Fuwa Shogen Yamaji Hideaki Tokuyama Nagayori Murai Yasumasa Sakuma Reinforcements- Shogen Yamaji 1) Hideyoshi does not want to fight with Toshiie Maeda, so first off, go over and convince him to retreat. Defeat Toshinaga Maeda to open the garrison. Then go inside and defeat Toshiie Maeda. (So much for not fighting him) If you do not do this, then Toshiie will charge out soon and he'll be in hyper mode. 2) Morimasa Sakuma will then be causing trouble and he'll be close to your main camp. Shogen Yamaji will also betray you and join the Shibata. Defeat the both of them before they take the main camp. 3) Keiji Maeda will also begin his charge. He is very strong here. If you have just started playing with Hideyoshi, he might be too much for you. Defeat him if you can, but if he's too strong, stay away from him. One of your allies will probably be able to defeat him, which is kind of sad in regards to Hideyoshi's strength. 4) When you enter the eastern part of the map, you'll get a mission to occupy all four garrisons. Defeat Nagayori Tokuyama, Katsumitsu Fuwa, Nagayori Hara, and Nagachika Kanamori to complete this mission. 5) Katsumasa Shibata will begin advancing. Go and eliminate him. 6) Defeat the remaining Reserve Captains if you wish, then defeat Nagayori Murai to open the gates to the Shibata main camp. 7) Enter and defeat Oichi, who has become quite a bitch for this stage. Then defeat Katsuie Shibata to finish the battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Chapter 3: Battle of Komaki-Nagakute - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I won't lose! Of course, the enemy is probably thinking the same thing." Toyotomi Army VS Tokugawa Army Hideyoshi barely managed to achieve victory, but defeated Katsuie Shibata and Oichi at Shizugatake. Next to challenge Hideyoshi for control of the land was none other than Nobunaga's old ally, Ieyasu Tokugawa of Mikawa. "I'm going to create a world where people can be happy..." said Hideyoshi, and he was off to fight Ieyasu. The two clashed at Komaki-Nagakute in an effort to determine who would be the one to rule Japan... Conditions: Victory: Defeat Ieyasu. Defeat: Main Camp is captured. -Toyotomi Army- -Tokugawa Army- Hideyoshi Toyotomi Ieyasu Tokugawa Captain Nobukatsu Oda Mitsunari Ishida Hanzo Hattori Nene Tadakatsu Honda Sakon Shima Ina Kiyomasa Kato Tadatsugu Sakai Masanori Fukushima Yasumasa Sakakibara Hidemasa Hori Kazumasa Ishikawa Hidetsugu Hashiba Masanobu Honda Tsuneoki Ikeda Nobumasa Okudaira Nagayoshi Mori Tadasuke Okubo Hidenaga Hashiba Tadayo Okubo Ujisato Gamo Moritsuna Watanabe Nagachika Kanamori Naomasa Ii Ittetsu Inaba Ujishige Niwa 1) Start off by defeating one of the officers in the middle, I like fighting Nobumasa Okudaira first, but it doesn't matter since a little into the stage Tsuneoki Ikeda will begin moving towards Iwasaki Castle. Rush over to where he and Nagayoshi Mori are to activate a mission to rescue the detached unit, they will not last long if left alone. Defeat Ujishige Niwa and Naomasa Ii to do so and open Iwasaki Castle. Defeat the Reserve Captain before going in. 2) Occupy Iwasaki Castle by defeatng Yasumasa Sakakibara. Fight it out with that Reserve Captain as well. Now Ieyasu Tokugawa will relocate to Kiyosu Castle, but Tadakatsu Honda will move to retake Iwasaki Castle. 3) Tadakatsu Honda is tough! Like Keiji in the last stage, Tadakatsu may be too powerful for you right now. It makes it worse that he has Ina accompanying him as well. And like Keiji, you may want to complete the stage without defeating him. However, if you can take him, go for it. Ina's also not as difficult as him, so even if you are ignoring Tadakatsu, try and lure Ina away from her father so you can at least defeat her. 4) Hanzo Hattori will have arrived close to your main camp as well. Even if you are fighting Tadakatsu, if it'll take you a while you may want to go after him first. Either way, now go after Hanzo and eliminate him before he eliminates your Captain. 5) Now go down into the center and get rid of all those remaining enemy generals. 6) Charge into Kiyosu Castle and defeat Nobukatsu Oda, then Ieyasu Tokugawa to claim victory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Chapter 4: Conquest for Kyushu - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I'm not doing this just for me, I'm doing this for all Japan." Toyotomi Army VS Shimazu Army Hideyoshi was victorious at Komaki-Nagakute. Ieyasu Tokugawa had been defeated. In order to completely unify the land, Hideyoshi set out towards Kyushu. However, Kyushu was a land controlled by the fearful Yoshihiro Shimazu of Satsuma. In addition, the powerful Tachibana clan also resided in the lands of Kyushu... Defeat: Ginchiyo is defeated, or Main Camp is captured. -Toyotomi Army- -Shimazu Army- Hideyoshi Toyotomi Yoshihisa Shimazu Mitsunari Ishida Yoshihiro Shimazu Sakon Shima Iehisa Shimazu Ginchiyo Tachibana Toshihisa Shimazu Hidehisa Sengoku Toyohisa Shimazu Nobuchika Chosokabe Arinobu Yamada Nobumitsu Saruwatari Tadatsune Shimazu Tadanaga Shimazu Tadamune Ijuin Reinforcements- Tadamoto Niiro Hisatora Ei Kakuken Uwai Hisataka Kabayama 1) Advance forward and defeat the Reserve Captain nearby before moving on. Then seize the central garrison by defeating Tadamune Ijuin. 2) Hidehisa Sengoku will go after Iehisa Shimazu and an ambush will trigger. Head up north and defeat Nobumitsu Saruwatari, Tadamoto Niiro, and Iehisa Shimazu. Take out that Reserve Captain in the north as well. 3) Continue through to the northeast and defeat Arinobu Yamada along the way. Then defeat Tadanaga Shimazu and the Reserve Captain in the northeast garrison. 4) Enter Tsuruga Castle and defeat Yoshihiro Shimazu to gain control. Defeat the Reserve Captain as well. 5) Now exit from the east and go down to Toshihisa Shimazu and you will be ambushed again. An avalanche will also block your way back, the Geyser will recede, leaving an open path for the enemy to get to your main camp, and the Volcano will start spewing molten rocks out. Gyah! Anyway, Defeat Hisatora Ei, Tadatsune Shimazu, and Toshihisa Shimazu for now. Get rid of those Reserve Captains around as well if you want. 6) Now here comes another ambush aiming for Tsuruga Castle. Prevent Kakuken Uwai and Hisataka Kabayama from taking it back. 7) Now Toyohisa Shimazu should be assasulting your main camp. Go defeat him. 8) Now you just have one more person to defeat, right? Wrong. Once you enter the Shimazu main camp, Yoshihiro, Iehisa, and Toshihisa will return, all in hyper mode. Defeat the three of them along with Yoshihisa Shimazu to complete the stage. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Chapter 5: Siege of Odawara Castle - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "One last fight and Japan will be all mine...This was easier than I thought." Toyotomi Army VS Hojo Army Hideyoshi succeeded in recruiting both the Shimazu and Tachibana. With Kyushu now his, the only remaining threat to his dreams were the Hojo in Kanto and the Date in Oshu. Hideyoshi decided to subjugate the Hojo and assembled all of his retainers to attack the Hojo fortification known as Odawara Castle. During this campaign, Masamune Date surrendered to Hideyoshi and agreed to serve him by attacking the Hojo... Conditions: Victory: Defeat Ujimasa. Pick either one. I like the north so I'm going to follow through as if you chose that one. Head up to the north garrison and defeat Hiroteru Minagawa to open the gates. Defeat the Reserve Captain too and a siege ramp will arrive, along with an enemy ambush. Defeat Naohide Matsuda and Yasusato Matsuda along with the enemy troops assaulting your siege ramp in order to protect it. There is a high possibility that you will fail and the ramp will be destroyed, but that's alright since you'll have a backup one show up afterward. That one should be able to make it to the castle walls safely. 2) All the gates to Odawara will open, and Ujimasa Hojo will order an attack. Reinforcements will arrive behind your main camp making it pretty much surrounded. Now you'll get a mission to protect your main camp and Masamune Date will arrive as reinforcements for you. Now, begin by defeating Ujimitsu Hojo, Naosada Hojo, and Kotaro Fuma. They should all be around the center. Kotaro will appear like right next to your main camp so be careful of him. 3) Ujinaga Narita and Naoshige Chiba will probably approach you so get rid of them while you're there. 4) The generals outside your camp will be holding off the Hojo officers approaching from the west, but they won't be doing a very good job. Assist whoever needs the most help first, though some, or maybe all of them, will probably be defeated. Ujinao Hojo, Ujitaka Hojo, and Ujifusa Hojo are who you need to worry about here. 5) Clear out the area around your main camp if you think it's necessary, then go down south and defeat Yasuhiro Ogasawara to open the gates to Odawara's main keep. 6) Enter the castle gates and work your way to the area in the south where Ujitada Hojo is. He's guarding the storehouse. Defeat him to seize the storehouse and lower the Hojo's morale. 7) Enter the castle's main keep and defeat Yoshitake Mibu and Norihide Matsuda. 8) Move on to the second floor and defeat Ujiteru Hojo and Masataka Kasahara. 9) Move up to the top floor and Kotaro Fuma will reappear. Defeat him again along with Ujimasa Hojo to bring Japan under Hideyoshi's control. "Okay, maybe this is just a bit much." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Hideyoshi's Dream: Battle of Sekigahara - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hmph, why do things always fall apart when I'm not around?" Western Army VS Eastern Army Odawara Castle had fallen and the lord of Oshu, Masamune, returned home. Hideyoshi had finally unified the land. But in time, Hideyoshi died and the land was again swept into chaos. It was during this time that Ieyasu Tokugawa mobilized his forces. Determined to protect the Toyotomi, Mitsunari Ishida engaged Ieyasu at Sekigahara. Luck seemed to be in Ieyasu's favor. However, something strange occurred within the Toyotomi Army. Hideyoshi Toyotomi himself was leading the way. It was all apart of his scheme to weed out those who were not loyal to him... Conditions: Victory: Defeat Ieyasu. Defeat: Main Camp is captured. -Western Army- -Eastern Army- Hideyoshi Toyotomi Ieyasu Tokugawa Mitsunari Ishida Tadakatsu Honda Sakon Shima Ina Yoshihiro Shimazu Naomasa Ii Ginchiyo Tachibana Masanori Fukushima Yoshitsugu Otani Nagamasa Kuroda Yukinaga Konishi Takatora Todo Hideie Ukita Tadaoki Hosokawa Teruzumi Akashi Nagachika Kanamori Hideaki Kobayakawa Tadayoshi Matsudaira Ekei Ankokuji Yoshinaga Asano Hidemoto Mori Terumasa Ikeda Hiroie Kikkawa Yoshiaki Kato Toyohisa Shimazu Kazutoyo Yamanouchi Satoie Gamo Reinforcements- Kiyomasa Kato Yoshihiro Shimazu Toyohisa Shimazu Ginchiyo Tachibana Hanzo Hattori Masamune Date Kojuro Katakura Shigezane Date 1) A mission will trigger to defeat Masanori Fukushima when you encounter him. Defeat Masanori and Naomasa Ii as well. 2) Kiyomasa Kato will show up on the Eastern side. Yoshihiro Shimazu and Ginchiyo Tachibana will also be pissed and betray you as well. Start with Kiyomasa and defeat him. Yoshiaki Kato should be closeby as well so eliminate him as well. 3) Hanzo Hattori will arrive near Mt. Matsuo, which also happens to be the area where Kiyomasa Kato was. Defeat Hanzo next. 4) Time to end the advance the enemy is making on your main camp. Start with the people in the south. Defeat Ina, Takatora Todo, and Ginchiyo Tachibana. Encountering Ginchiyo activates a mission to prevent her from entering the main camp. Defeat her before she does. 5) And do the same to the people in the west. Defeat Tadaoki Hosokawa, Toyohisa Shimazu, and Yoshihiro Shimazu. Encountering Yoshihiro activates a mission to prevent him from entering the main camp. Defeat him before he does. 6) Now clean up the few odds and ends around your camp. Defeat Nagamasa Kuroda, Terumasa Ikeda, and Tadakatsu Honda. 7) A hyper Masamune Date will arrive with his little gang. Defeat Shigezane Date, Kojuro Katakura, and Masamune Date. Make sure all the gates near your camp are secured and clear most of the enemies out before moving on. 8) Now advance up into the northeast and defeat one of the Defense Captains up there to open one of the gates. Defeat Nagachika Kanamori and Tadayoshi Matsudaira, who will each be guarding one of the gates on the other side. 9) Enter the enemy main camp and defeat Kazutoyo Yamanouchi and Yoshinaga Asano. Then finish off Ieyasu Tokugawa to complete the stage. And that completes Hideyoshi's Story Mode. If this was the first Dream stage you did, you'll unlock the Credits 2 movie. ******************************************************************************* ** 6. Weapons ** ******************************************************************************* Everyone has four weapons. The first three can be gotten randomly, though the increased difficulty and higher the Discern skill will increase your chances of finding a more powerful version of these three weapons. The fourth weapon can only be obtained on the Hard difficulty setting in Story Mode and you must have completed that character's Story Mode. You do not need to complete their Dream stage though. You will then have to fulfill certain requirements to obtain the fourth weapon. These are Hideyoshi's weapons, including how to obtain the fourth. Triple Staff- Base Attack- 19 Painful Triad- Base Attack- 27 Monster Bones- Base Attack- 35 Simian Sansetsu- Base Attack- 42 Element- Lightning Speed +60 Dex +40 Luck +60 Comment: The Simian Sansetsu is an example of a perfect weapon. All stat boosts are maxed as much as they can be. Each stat can only go up to 60 with three slots, each going up to 20. Only two stats can be maxed at 60, while the third can only go up to 40 because only two slots are left. Hideyoshi has little attack and defense power, but he's a character based on speed so this is a great weapon for him. If you can't live without an attack boost though, find a third weapon and upgrade it. ------------------------- Obtaining Simian Sansetsu ------------------------- You must play Hideyoshi's second stage in Story Mode, "Battle of Shizugatake" on the Hard difficulty after completing his Story Mode. 1) Rush over and defeat Toshinaga Maeda to open the garrison. You have to complete the mission to convince Toshiie Maeda to retreat. He will begin attacking not long into the stage so you have to do this somewhat quickly. You will know you failed if Toshiie goes into hyper mode. 2) After defeating Toshiie, Keiji Maeda will start advancing towards your main camp. Your next task is to defeat him. It's a better idea to wait for him to come to you rather than charging after him. If you fight with him up north, you'll encounter other enemy generals and troops and you won't have any allies to help you out. And remember how difficult Keiji was when you were first going through Hideyoshi's story? Well he's not any easier, but hopefully your Hideyoshi is better. Engage Keiji once he gets to the west garrison in that area in the east with all the garrisons you have to take. Use Hideyoshi's SSSSSS+T move frequently on Keiji to penetrate his guard and to deal slightly better damage. It should be easier to defeat him this time around, despite it being on Hard mode. That one move makes a difference. 3) After defeating Keiji, the Supply Team will arrive in the west and head for the south. Chase them down and pick the weapon up from the Supply Captain. Then finish the stage to obtain your weapon. ******************************************************************************* ** 7. Stats ** ******************************************************************************* These are Hideyoshi's stats. First I will show his beginning stats followed by his stats when they are maxed. Beginning Stats: Life 110 Musou 102 Attack 85 Defense 87 Ride 105 Speed 120 Dex 128 Luck 105 Maximum Stats: Life 270 Musou 306 Attack 171 Defense 174 Ride 200 Speed 190 Dex 198 Luck 198 ******************************************************************************* ** 8. Movies ** ******************************************************************************* Hideyoshi has five movies. Each of them is unlocked by progressing through his Story Mode. I will show the name of each movie, what stage you get them from, and give a brief description of what happens in them. ----------------- -Race to Revenge- ----------------- Unlocked at the beginning of "Battle of Yamazaki" Hideyoshi Toyotomi is charging his army as fast as possible. Mitsunari Ishida notices that his horse is having trouble and an empty horse just behind them. Then Hideyoshi's horse stumbles, but Mitsunari catches him and places him on the empty horse behind them. Hideyoshi thanks him and continues forcing his army forward, seeking blood. --------------------- -Monkey-s Motivation- --------------------- Unlocked at the beginning of "Battle of Komaki-Nagakute" Hideyoshi Toyotomi is thinking of how to deal with Ieyasu Tokugawa. Mitsunari Ishida asks him why he desires to control the land and Hideyoshi tells him that he wants to creat a world where everyone can be happy and that that is the promise he has made. ---------- -Deadlock- ---------- Unlocked at the beginning of "Conquest for Kyushu" Mitsunari Ishida tells Hideyoshi Toyotomi about Kyushu and Yoshihiro Shimazu. Yoshihiro is battling against an army when Ginchiyo Tachibana rides up on a horse. Yoshihiro takes the horse down with his hammer, but Ginchiyo comes down upon him and splits his helmet in half. He is impressed by her ability and surprised to find she is a woman. Ginchiyo introduces herself and charges at Yoshihiro and the two end up in a deadlock. -------------- -Late Arrival- -------------- Unlocked at the beginning of "Siege of Odawara Castle" The reason for the upcoming battle is explained and then Masamune Date's arrival is announced. He walks up to Hideyoshi Toyotomi in his tent, passing by all of his officers, and bows to him with an apology. He sees Hideyoshi hold a sword to his neck, but it turns out to only be a folding fan. Hideyoshi says, "I would take your head, but it's worth more where it is now." Then he shouts to make the enemy beg for peace. ------------- -Unification- ------------- Unlocked after completing "Siege of Odawara Castle" All of Hideyoshi Toyotomi's allies are walking with him as he mentions that a world where everyone can be happy has been created. He catches a cherry blossom petal in his hand. It flies away into the wind and then we see Magoichi Saika walking down a street with a random girl. He catches a cherry blossom petal and looks at it, thinking of Hideyoshi, while his lady friend tries to hurry him along. ******************************************************************************* ** 9.
