Character Biography =============================================================================== A biography of Masamune from Koei. Son of Terumune Date. As a child, he lost an eye due to illness, thus earning the nickname 'Dokuganryu,' the 'one-eyed dragon.' After his father's death, he was victorious at the Battles of Koriyama and Suriagehara and greatly expanded his own sphere of influence. He overcame many obstacles - from the bad blood between him and Yoshiakira Mogami to dispute over the family estate - to expand his control over all of northern Japan. After Hideyoshi Toyotomi's death, Date joined with Tokugawa in the Battle of Sekigahara. =============================================================================== 3. Unlocking Date Masamune =============================================================================== Date Masamune is available after you complete Musou Mode with Saika Magoichi, although you must complete Musou Mode with Akechi Mitsuhide to unlock Magoichi. =============================================================================== 4. Moveset and Skills =============================================================================== ++++++++++++++++++ A. Special Skills ++++++++++++++++++ R1: When this button is pushed, Masamune will bring out his two pistols. While holding R1, use the D-Pad or the Left Analog to allow Masamune to strafe. R1+S: Fires at the enemy according to the number of times you press square. Comment: The fire rate is slow and the damage is pathetic. Although if you are having trouble killing a powered up general, use it to keep your distance. Keep in mind that it does not stun enemies and it will not break an enemy's guard. Score: 3/10 R1+T: Masamune taunts his enemy by spinning his pistols and then finishes off with a cool stance that sends out a yellow shockwave. If the enemy is stupid enough to get hit by it, his/her defense will lower while your attack will go up. Comment: I rarely use this move simply because it rarely works on generals on Hell and Hard mode. First, they can easily block it or roll away. Second, you will most likely get knocked back by the general or a soldier. Score: 3/10 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ B. Regular Attacks (Square) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ S1: Slashes his sword down from the top right to the bottom left. S2: Slashes his sword back up from the bottom left to the top right S3: Swings his sword up from the bottom right to the top left. S4: Takes out his pistol and fires once. S5: Takes out his pistol and fires twice. S6: Takes out his pistol and fires 3 times. S7: Takes out his pistol and fires 4 times. S8: Dashes forward and simultaneously slashes his sword from left to right Jump+S: Fires both his pistols while airborne. Using this move will give you extra air time. Comment: His set of square attacks have poor crowd control and only the last attack will activate his element. Score: 6/10 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ C. Charge Attacks (Square+Triangle) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ T1: Fires three elemental projectiles. T2: Dashes forwad and quickly swings his sword up from the bottom right to the top left. Your element is activated during the slash. T3: Does a backflip and fires both his pistols while airborne. Jump+T: Strikes his sword on to the ground causing a small shockwave. Comment: Okay, this move looks awesome. Masamune pulls it off quickly so it is great to use it on a crowd. Score: 7/10 ST1: Swings his sword up knocking any enemy into the air. ST2: Fires multiple times at the airborne enemy. ST3: Jumps up to the airborne enemy and strikes down with an elemental sword. Comment: Great for 1 on 1 battle although the gun shots are weak. Score: 7/10 SST1: Does a spin kick from left to right. SST2: Dashes forward and quickly swings his sword up from the bottom right to the top left. SST3: Fires 3 elemental projectile with one going forward and the other two going off to his sides. Comment: Incredible! The projectiles cover a large radius, although it does not cover your back but that's fine. Equip Masamune with Ice or Lightning and you will be clearing crowds with ease. Score: 8/10 SSST1: Slashes his sword down from the top right to the bottom left. Then quickly, he will jump into the air and spin 360 degree while firing his pistols. The gun shots are elemental, although the radius is very small. SSST2: Same as SSST1 except he slashes his sword more before the jump and the slashes are elemental. SSST3: Same as SSST1 except he slashes his sword even more. Comment: With a weapon carrying Ice element, this move is very useful. The slashes will freeze the enemy 80-90% of the time. Without the Ice element, it's still efficient against generals. Score: 8/10 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ D. Musou Attacks (Circle) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Regular: Lvl 1: Fires multiple gun shots outward. Lvl 2: Fires multiple gun shots outward and finishes off jumping into the air three times while performing a 360 degree spin firing his pistols simultaneously. Lvl 3: Same as Lvl 2, except blue lasers rain down during the musou sequence. =============================================================================== 5. Unlocking Masamune's Steed ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I actually decided to unlock Masamune's steed before I used him because I thought Masamune would not be complete without his steed. If you are like me, read on. If not, scroll down and skip this section. Anyway, here is the method. Select Infinite Castle (無限城) from the main menu because it is only obtainable in this mode. Requirement: Complete "秘薬の材料" mission once. At level 71 of Infinite Castle, complete "荷駄頭救出戦" to unlock this awesome horse. Do not forget to purchase the horse in the shop and bring enough money with you. =============================================================================== 7. Stage Walkthrough =============================================================================== Note: These strategies were made on Hard Difficulty. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stage 1. 小田原城攻略戦 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Time Limit: 60'00'00 Victory Condition: Hojo Ujimasa and Hojo Ujinao are defeated. Defeat Condition: Toyotomi Hideyoshi is defeated. You start off near the north gate. Immediately take out the general, 上田憲定 in front of you to open the northern gate. At this moment, the cannons near 松田直秀 will fire. Once you are inside, you will immediately spot 上杉氏憲 and 笠原政堯. Kill them quickly and move on. Approach 松田康郷 and 北条氏房 and defeat them quickly. The two generals near the southern gate should be flashing. Defeat them to open two gates and rescue Yoshihiro while you are there. At this point, the Hojo army should atk Hideyoshi's main camp. Hopefully you have a horse with you because you need to rescue Hideyoshi. Once you have secured Hideyoshi, head over to 松田直秀 and defeat him to cease the cannons. Head over to the lower left corner of the map to discover the supply base. Defeat the two generals that appear to seize the base. Approach the castle from the left will trigger an enemy ambush. Dispose of them and head in. Shortly after, Kotaro will appear inside the castle. Eliminate him and then the enemy commanders. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stage 2. 長谷堂の戦い ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Time Limit: 60'00'00 Victory Condition: Naoe Kanetsugu and Maeda Keiji are defeated. Defeat Condition: Date Masamune or 最上義光 is defeated or Naoe Kanetsugu reaches the escape point. So, you first encounter Keiji. Luckily he is not powered up. Dispose of him and head through the gate. Follow the path and defeat the generals that impede you. Rescue 最上義光, then move on. Enemy reinforcements will appear as you approach Kanetsugu. Hurry back to rescue 最上義光 and make it quick because Kanetsugu should have eliminated two to three of you allies by now. Great.. Keiji appears again. Ignore him and stop Kanetsugu. On hard mode, you do not have the time to deal with Keiji. Once you defeat Kanetsugu, you can go deal with a powered up Keiji. Finish him to end the battle. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stage 3. 海賊討伐戦 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Time Limit: 60'00'00 Victory Condition: Enemy leader is defeated. Defeat Condition: All allies are defeated or allied bases are taken. Fairly easy. Defeat the troop leaders when they show up. Enemy reinforcements will show up from time to time, but they do not cause much trouble. Defeat the leader when he shows up to end the battle. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stage 4. 大阪の陣 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Time Limit: 60'00'00 Victory Condition: 豊臣秀頼 is defeated. Defeat Condition: Tokugawa Ieyasu is defeated. First off, approach the south. You will get a mission to eliminate a general to the north. Ignore it. You will get another mission to eliminate the generals that are near you. Take the generic ones out before you take out Yukimura unless your Masamune has decent stats. Once they are dealt with, head over to general to your north and eliminate him. It is also wise to eliminate the other two generals in this area to give yourself a morale boost. Approach the central gate for a battle with a powered up Musashi. Defeat the nearby enemies for powerups. Now the allied cannon should appear. Protect it at all cost. The door to the castle will open shortly. Eliminate Magoichi who awaits you. Enter the castle once Magoichi has been dealt with and defeat Yukimura along with the enemy commander. Oh no, the battle is not over yet, in fact the defeat condition has changed. You must stop 豊臣秀頼 from reaching the escape point and to make matters worst, Yukimura will charge into Ieyasu's main camp. Hopefully you brought a steed with you. Eliminate 豊臣秀頼 and Yukimura to end the battle. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stage 5. 三方ヶ原決戦 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Time Limit: 60'00'00 Victory Condition: Tokugawa Ieyasu is defeated. Defeat Condition: Date Masamune or Saika Magoichi is defeated. First, seize the east fort by defeating the general inside. If you wish to fight a powered up Musashi, approach the central fort now. If not, go seize the west fort which will trigger Musashi to leave his position. Once he leaves the fort, Musashi will get ambushed by your troops. Wohooo.. he is injured. Now finish him off to seize the central fort. Approach the southwest corner to trigger an ambush. Defeat the generals there. Alright, charge into Ieyasu's camp to trigger an ambush and the enemy reinforcements to arrive. Dispose of Hanzou and the ambush party quickly. Ignore Ieyasu. Instead, go and eliminate Inahime, Tadakatsu, and the other three generals. If you did everything I mentioned, the supply captain carrying Masamune's level 4 weapon should appear. Once you are done, eliminate Ieyasu to end the battle. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stage 6. 関ヶ原の戦い (Gaiden) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ How to unlock: Finish Date Masamune's Musou mode once. Time Limit: 60'00'00 Victory Condition: Ishida Mitsunari is defeated. Defeat Condition: Tokugawa Ieyasu is defeated. Okay, so you start the battle with an advantage but not for long. Just deal with the generals in the central area. Shortly after, enemy reinforcements will arrive causing a drastic morale drop. Simultaneously, the area around your main camp should be under attack. Eliminate the enemy reinforcements quickly along with the generals near the main camp. Finally, defeat Mitsunari to end the battle. =============================================================================== 8.
