It is meant to assist you in finding all of the tanks in the game, along with notes where you might need to pay special attention. It also provides statistics for anyone who wishes to customize their finds. If you wish to add to, or correct any information in this FAQ, contact me as described in the ToDo list (see [WTF00]). You are encouraged to do so, and you will be given full credit. [!!!!!] This FAQ does not attempt to hide spoilers, so beware. Travelling directly north of Beldaire, along the highway system, you'll encounter Ruins of a Fort. For you hunters out there, this is the hideout of Col. Blueberry. From where you entered the fort, head through the first door on your right, then straight through the next door. On this screen, you'll find the Gepard being guarded by a Blueberry soldier. Basically, you need head up to the top floor of the fort (on foot), until you reach the lair of Col. Blueberry. Defeat him, and his henchmen. BIG FUN. There is a man in the Alice One tavern who will offer you valuable information if you pay him 5000G. Offer him the money, and he tells you about a merchant camp west of Alice One that carries a bus stop sign. From Alice One, head straight west until you see a purple spot on your mini-map over by the lake coast. This is Alice One W. In one of the tents, you can inspect a sign. The trader in that room will offer to sell you the sign for 3000G. Do so. NOTE: The merchant will not sell you the sign unless you paid the man in the Alice One tavern. Once you have the sign, head north from the encampment, into the desert, until you see another purple dot on you mini-map. Head there, this is the Bus Station. On the Bus Station screen, tap X around the shelter. You'll be asked if you want to place the sign. Do so. You'll be told that you have a certain number of minutes (the number is random, from 5-10 minutes) until the bus arrives. Leave to the world map. At this point, you have time to kill until the bus arrives. The time metioned before ("X minutes") is in real time. You can either sit tight, or roam about the desert. Whatever time you were given (say, 8 minutes), head back to the Bus Station field a minute or two early (say, after 6 minutes). NOTE: Tiamat hangs out in this desert. He's a huge tank that you can see from the world map. Chances are, you're in no state to deal with him. Be careful, and always remember that you can flee battles. NOTE: Contrary to what I originally thought, you CAN wait at the Bus Stop field screen. However, the bus makes no audio indication that it's arriving, so you need to keep your eye on the TV, should you choose to just sit tight. You should see a scene of the bus coming to a halt and waiting for passengers. This is your time to nab it. NOTE: If you left the field screen, and see a scene with the bus leaving as you re-enter the Bus Station, then you've waited too long, and you need to try again. No worries, the sign's still there. THANKS TO: KaoFloppy, bittermang, and ffbb718-bbs: For confirming that you need to speak to the man at the Alice One tavern first. (Others submitted this help, too, but these three all emailed me first, within about an hour of one another, so I'll give them the credit. Thanks to everyone, though!) ffbb718-bbs and Khoa: For informing me that the merchant at Alice One W actually sells the sign for 3000G, not 5000G. KaoFloppy: For informing me that you can actually wait in the Bus Stop field screen. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Main [5] --- | [2] Sub [6] --- 7.45t | [3] SE [7] --- | [4] --- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 80 -> 160 -> 240 -> 320 -> 400 | 1020G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 1020G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKWIR] Wirlbelwind = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = How do I get it? Once you discover Forever Land, head to the door at the left of the first room of the compound (the one with Jared in it). This will take you down to Robby, the boy genius. He'll offer to make you a tank if you can bring him 10.00t of scrap metal. NOTE: Some people think that you can't get into Forever Land with a tank. This is incorrect. Simply make sure you don't run into the obstacles that will make you dismount your tank on the ground level screen (the one with Golem), and you'll be fine. NOTE: Robby remembers the scrap metal you brought him in the past. It's incremental, so you don't need to bring him the whole shebang at once. Once you have the scrap metal, return to Robby with it. He'll tell you he's done, and request 20,000G from you. Pay him (hey, it's for orphans), and he'll hand over the tank. NOTE: If you cannot pay Robby, don't fret. Just return to him once you can. No tank until then, though. If you head south from Dowan as far as you can go, and then proceed east as far as you can go, you'll run ito a purple blip on your mini map. This is Dr. Palm's laboratory. NOTE: Chances are, you've received an email invitation from him to be his friend by this point. This email is determined by the number of tanks you've acquired. Once in his lab, speak to the good doctor. He'll ask you to be his friend, and request to call you by a "buddy name". I chose "Dingleberry", cuz that name is tough as nuts. Once you have accepted friendship with Palm, he'll offer to build you a tank. Accept, and answer the questions he provides. At this point he'll tell you how much scrap metal he needs to build your dream tank. It's usually just over 40.00t of scrap metal. NOTE: Palm's question about which chassis you should use has names which don't directly correspond to the actual tank name. Wherever this occurs, I've listed Palm's chassis name in parentheses after the actual tank name. NOTE: If money is not a problem for you, choose the weakest weaponry for the tank (the ones listed first on the choices he gives you). You can replace them with better equipment later, and it will cost you less scrap metal to build the tank. NOTE: Dr. Palm remembers the scrap metal you've brought him in the past. It's incremental, so you don't need to bring him the whole shebang at once. Once you have brought enough scrap metal to his assistant, Thursday, you'll be informed to speak to Dr. Palm again. You'll witness a scene of him concocting your dream tank. It's yours. Name it. If you have a tank in tow (to carry all the scrap), feel free to just SATCOM -> Remote your new prize to the Junkyard. NOTE: If you end up not liking the tank you described to him, you can always return it to him and recycle it for a new chassis, free of charge. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKABR] Abrams = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Main [5] SE | [2] Sub [6] --- 14.27t | [3] Sub [7] --- | [4] SE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 110 -> 190 -> 270 -> 350 -> 410 | 4200G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 4200G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKLEO] Leopard (Leopold) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Main [5] SE | [2] Sub [6] --- 15.64t | [3] Sub [7] --- | [4] SE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 120 -> 200 -> 280 -> 360 -> 420 | 6600G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 6600G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKLUL] Lulubelle (Roulbel) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Main [5] SE | [2] Main [6] SE 14.27t | [3] Sub [7] --- | [4] Sub ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 80 -> 160 -> 240 -> 320 -> 400 | 2580G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 2580G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKROM] Rommel = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Main [5] --- | [2] Sub [6] --- 13.39t | [3] SE [7] --- | [4] SE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 105 -> 185 -> 265 -> 345 -> 425 | 3390G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 3390G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKT90] Type 90 (Type Zero) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Main [5] SE | [2] Sub [6] --- 14.95t | [3] Sub [7] --- | [4] SE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 115 -> 195 -> 275 -> 355 -> 435 | 5400G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 5400G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKFTK] Fire Truck = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = How do I get it? Once in Isle W, you'll see the Fire Truck just sitting there, in all of its glory. Talk to the merchant, and agree to buy it. Rosa will show up and offer more money. The merchant, deciding to be fair, will propose a single-bid auction to take place when he feels like it. NOTE: I would recommend saving at this point. From there, you have some time to kill. I spent it simply leveling up with monsters on the west side of the lake. Eventually, you'll get an email from the merchant, telling you to report back to the camp within a half hour. Do so. NOTE: The half hour is real time, and you don't get a second chance. Your best bet is to teleport to Lorelei Bay and take the Freight Ship up the west coast, back to the encampment. NOTE: You only get emails upon entering the world map, either by leaving a town or teleporting to one. Upon your return to the encampment, the auction begins. The merchant has Rosa bid first, and she will always bid 50,000G. All you need to do is outbid her, meaning that you should offer 50,001G. The merchant will declare you the high bidder fair and square, and the Fire Truck is yours. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Sub [5] Sub / SE | [2] Sub [6] --- 12.91t | [3] SE [7] --- | [4] SE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 100 -> 180 -> 260 -> 340 -> 420 | 2580G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 2580G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [TKROD] Rodina = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = How do I get it? Though apparently, 12501 is a bit of a meme for the Metal Max series, and is a handy short circuit for this demanding price tag. From this point, expect to find him in the casino on the train from East Zero to Alice One. Talk to him, ask him about the tank, he'll fill you full of nonsense, and scamper off. NOTE: Depending on where you are in the hunter storyline, you may need to defeat the Dalton Bros. and/or the Puppetmaster before you can speak to Hamir in the casino. From there, expect Hamir to keep feeding off of his gambling tendencies. This time, at the Dog Colisseum in Alice One. He'll be hanging out outside. Nag him about a tank once again and (SURPRISE!) he'll feed you a load of excuses and scamper off. Next time you run into Hamir will be at Lorelei Bay. First and foremost, YOU MUST GET PICKPOCKETED. You do this by entering Lorelei Bay from the world map. Half of your G will be stolen. Deal with it, you can get it back during a bounty. Once pickpocketed, enter the tavern at Lorelei Bay, and talk to Hamir. He'll give you a sob story about having his money stolen, and request the sum amount from you again. Go ahead. Be a sucker. Give him the money. Eventually, you'll make your way to Fort Gears. Head into the tavern. You'll learn of a con artist who is swindling people out of money with promises for tanks. He now has a bounty on his head, and you're invited to claim it. You'll also learn that the person offering the reward will gladly give his vintage tank to the hunter who catches him. Once you make your way to Hell's Keep, wander on into the Bounty Office. Talk to the man next to the wanted posters. He'll basically express the same frustrations that you've been having, as far as getting swindled out of money. Check out the wanted posters, and you'll discover that Hamir's name is actually Binramen, the Outlaw. So, where would a tank swindler hide out? The Anti-Tank Fortress, of course. Find him in the tavern within the Anti-Tank Fortress, ask him about the tank, and then tell him that you've seen him on a wanted poster. He bolts. NOTE: The Anti-Tank Fortress is located above Fort Gears. You need to exit your tanks and take the stairs up. Just in case you didn't know. Leave the tavern, talk to the homeless man outside. He'll tell you that he saw someone run into a back alleyway. Along the north side of the ATF, you'll see a fenced-in area, and you'll most likely see Binramen cowering in the shadows. Approach him. Fight him. No matter what he says, give him no chance to escape. You'll end up claiming a bounty on Binramen (a whole 450G!). Once you've turned in Binramen, return to the tavern at Fort Gears. The bounty poster is waiting for you, and he gladly offers you his tank, the Maus. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | MOUNTS: Initial Chassis Weight: | [1] Main [5] Sub | [2] Main [6] SE 17.00t | [3] Main [7] SE | [4] Sub -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURABILITY: | COST: 130 -> 210 -> 290 -> 370 -> 450 | 10800G per upgrade | +1.40t per upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMMO: | COST: 20 -> 28 -> 36 | 10800G per upgrade | +.20t per upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0==============================================================================0 Appendix [APP00] 0==============================================================================0 This section of the FAQ provides helpful information on how to perform tasks that may be overlooked by the reader, or tasks that may be a bit too daunting or mundane to accomplish without help. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [APP01] The Mine / Metal Detector = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = 1. What are they? The Mine Detector and Metal Detector are crucial for finding buried tanks on the world map. Once you acquire one, you may use it to illuminate a circumference around you. If you're lucky, a blip will appear within that circumference, indicating where you should go and dig (by pressing X). NOTE: You can find many items on the world map this way, not only tanks. Prime seeking locations are deserts and forests. Remember that you can only search forests on foot. NOTE: The detectors do not appear to work on field maps (ie, in dungeons) 2. What's the difference between them? Quite simply, you can get your hands on the Mine Detector earlier in your adventures, but it's search radius is somewhat small. On the other hand, once you get the Metal Detector later on, your search radius will double! 3. How do I get them? Mine Detector - Stay in Economy Room #1 at the Inn in Newfolk (30G). When you wake up, you can get the Mine Detector from the box in the left-hand corner of the room. Don't leave the room until you do this, or you'll have to pay to spend another night. Metal Detector - Buy it at the Item Shop in Alice One for 980G. NOTE: I have 2 Metal Detectors in my inventory (because I am scared to sell anything in this game), which means that I must have found one somewhere. If anyone finds a Metal Detector in the game, please let me know where it was! Thanks! 4. What's all this talk of hotkeys? Well, you'll end up using your detector a lot, and taking the whole "Menu -> Item -> Mine Detector -> Use" route gets old FAST. Luckily, the game lets us map that whole command to a button press. This is how you do it: a. Go to your menu. b. Select "SATCOM" c. Select "Config" d. Select "Button Functions" e. Pick a button (I recommend square) f. Scroll down and select "Use Detector" g. Once mapped, scroll down and select "Confirm" h. On the next screen, scroll down and select "Confirm" again. And you're done! Your detector is always a single button press away now! NOTE: Make sure you select "Confirm", as outlined in steps g. and h. If you use the circle button to exit out of the config menu, all changes you've made will be cancelled. NOTE: You should consider hotkeying your SATCOM as well, since it provides a world map and a ton of useful data as you play the game. I used R2. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [APP02] Scrap Metal Acquisition = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = 1. How do I get scrap metal? Simple. Take any Ores you've acquired to the right merchants. They'll appraise it as scrap metal for you. 2. Uhhh. So how do I get Ores? They're monster drops. Here's a list of monsters I encountered that drop Ores, listed in the same order that the SATCOM lists them: Bio - Foreman - Unknown Ore - 30% drop chance Bio - Bunny Gunner - Medium Ore - 30% drop chance Machine - Blocko Mechanic - Medium Ore - 30% drop chance Machine - Crotch Cannon - Large Ore - 30% drop chance NOTE: This list in most likely incomplete. I am going off of the game data from my playthrough. These enemies are frequent, so you hopefully shouldn't have any problems. NOTE: ANY ADDITIONS TO THIS LIST WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED! :D 3. Uhhh. So where do I find them? The Foreman always appears along with a number of Blocko Mechanics. They're found on the outskirts of Alice One, usually in the wasteland (the reddish ground that surrounds desert). The Bunny Gunners usually hang around the south end of the desert east of Lake Brige E. I seem to recall that the Crotch Gunners hang out in the same area as the Bunny Gunners, though maybe closer to the west side of the desert (closer to Lake Bridge E). NOTE: All of these enemies appear in groups of 2-4, so even though you only have a chance of an Ore drop, there will always be a decent number of them to possibly drop it. 4. Okay, I have some ore. Where do I take them again? I know of three merchants you can take them to: Alice One - In the Parts/Synthesis garage Dowan - In the Service/Rental/Shell garage Lorelai Bay - in the Hunter's Office garage As always, the merchants are clad in yellow. If you ask them what they're looking for, they'll tell you they're seeking Cores, which actually ties into the Item Synthesis portion of the game (which is for another FAQ). Luckily, they appraise Ores for you too! From what i've seen, Ores will always end up appraised as scrap metal. NOTE: I would recommend bringing a tank in tow if you plan to appraise a large number of ores. Once they go from Ore to Scrap Metal, they magically gain about a ton of weight, and can only be carried on tanks. NOTE: I have received Scrap Metal that weighs 0.7t and 1.7t. I assume that this is due to the ore's description (with "Unknown Ore" getting appraised to a random weight of Scrap Metal.) However, I have yet to confirm this for now. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = [APP03] Finding Forever Land = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = 1. So how do I get there? From Alice One W, follow the lake coast up north. The coast will start to bear west, and you'll see an Abandoned Building from the world map. Avoid this for now, but note that it's a bounty for your hunter missions. Just west of here, you should trigger an event with some folks whose tank has broken down. Offer to fix the tank (since you have a mechanic in your party). They will be very grateful, and invite you over to their place. This place is Forever Land, and it's located just northwest of where the above event happens. It's on a patch of grass and forest, and should appear as a blip after the event. 0==============================================================================0 Version History [VER00] 0==============================================================================0 v1.2 - 2006-06-01 Gave 1up.com permission to host this FAQ.
