Credits 9. Update History 10. Contact Info 11. Copyright ------------------------ ----- Introduction ----- ------------------------ I originally did not plan on making any more Character FAQs. I also originally did not care much for Sima Yi due to his annoying new voice. However, after encountering him countless times on the battlefield I have gotten used to this voice and I decided that it really isn't that bad. I'm not going to forget about my old favorite character for something as trivial as this. So I thus decided to make a FAQ for him and hopefully this will be it. Since Dynasty Warriors 3, Sima Yi has been a favorite character of mine. I appreciated his intellect and his evil genious persona in the game. I also thought it interesting that he uses a fan as his weapon. When I learned of his role in history, I liked him even more. You can say that Sima Yi began the path to unifying the land and you may also say that he was one of the most intelligent minds of the Three Kingdoms Era. *To unlock Sima Yi you must complete Musou Mode once with any character from Wei. ------------------- ----- Sima Yi ----- ------------------- Surname: Sima Given Name: Yi Style: Zhongda Born: 175 Died: 251 Sima Yi first caught the attention of Cao Cao after the pacification of the north who was impressed with his abilities. Even after Cao Cao died, great trust was placed in Sima Yi by Cao Pi. Once Cao Pi died, Sima Yi was appointed General of the Flying Cavalry and was stationed as superintendant of Yong and Liang's armed forces. However, fearful of Sima Yi's abilities, Zhuge Liang began to spread slander that Sima Yi wished to rebel. Wei emperor, Cao Rui, was fearful of Sima Yi and believed this and he thus stripped Sima Yi of power. After countless losses to Zhuge Liang though, Cao Rui had no choice but to reinstate Sima Yi. A former Shu officer, Meng Da surrendered to Wei a while ago and was now planning on returning to Shu since Cao Pi died. Zhuge Liang feared Sima Yi would interfere and warned Meng Da. However, despite their efforts, Sima Yi was able to defeat Meng Da, and he was killed. Cao Rui's trust in Sima Yi was restored and he allowed Sima Yi to act on his own judgement without imperial consent. Due to Ma Su's foolishness, Sima Yi was able to capture the strategic location of Jie Ting. Ma Su made his encampment on a mountaintop, instead of the road which Zhuge Liang commanded him to do. He thought he could attack the Wei army from this height, but instead, the mountain was surrounded and Ma Su was forced to flee. Wei taking Jie Ting caused Zhuge Liang great stress and with tears in his eyes he had Ma Su executed. For the next few years Shu would continue to attack Wei. However, due to food shortages and internal struggles, their results were not too succesful. Zhuge Liang then rebuilt his forces and in the year 234 met the Wei Army at the Wu Zhang Plains. Sima Yi led the defense. And that is indeed what Sima Yi did. He kept his defense. Both he and Zhuge Liang could sense that Zhuge Liang did not have long to live and this prolonged battle with Wei was causing him great stress which was shortening his life. Zhuge Liang tried getting Sima Yi to attack, but not even his taunts could bring him out. Soon after, the Sleeping Dragon ascended into the heavens and Zhuge Liang was no more. Even though Shu tried to hide this, Sima Yi sensed Zhuge Liang had passed and ordered a pursuit as Shu tried to withdraw. However, Shu struck back and presented a wooden statue of Zhuge Liang which struck fear in Sima Yi thinking it to be the real Zhuge Liang and he had his army fall back and Shu managed to escape. Sima Yi revered Zhuge Liang as a brilliant mind. Five years after the battle at Wu Zhang Plains, the Wei emperor, Cao Rui, passed away. He left matters of the state in the hands of Cao Shuang and Sima Yi. The new Wei emperor was the eight year-old, Cao Fang. Cao Shuang assigned Sima Yi to a small position in an attempt to seize power for himself. In an attempt to regain power, Sima Yi feigned illness and withdrew. Once Cao Shuang was away, Sima Yi along with his two sons and followers marched into the imperial court and made a protest against Cao Shuang directly to the emperor. He was stripped of power and executed. Sima Yi then became the Prime Minister of Wei and now the Sima family held most of the power in Wei. After the death of Sima Yi, his sons, Sima Shi and Sima Zhao took over. The emperor grew fearful of the two brothers and tried to get them removed, however, this plan was discovered and he was forced to abdicate his throne to Cao Mao. The Sima family now pretty much held complete control over the imperial court. Sima Shi soon died from a tumor he had on his face at a young age and his brother, Sima Zhao, took control. Like the former emperor, Cao Mao did not approve of Sima Zhao and he too tried to get rid of him. However, Sima Zhao had his men assassinate the Wei emperor. Sima Zhao named Cao Huan as the next Wei emperor and gave himself the title of Prime Minister. Wei then led a campaign against Shu and after Zhong Hui captured Han Zhong, Deng Ai marched into the capital of Cheng Du, forcing the Shu emperor, Liu Chan, to surrender to Wei. The empire of Shu had fallen. Soon after, Sima Zhao succumbed to illness and passed away. His son, Sima Yan, took over his position. Sima Yan was still not satisified with his power though, so he pressured the Wei emperor, Cao Huan, to give up the throne. This ended the 45 year rule of the Wei dynasty and Sima Yan created the kingdom of Jin. The new Wu emperor, Sun Hao, began a rule of tyranny. The Wu citizens began to fear Sun Hao and the Wu kingdom began to fall apart on its own. Sima Yan thought it an opportune time to attack and soon Jin attacked Wu. Just like Shu, Wu had no choice, but to surrender to Jin. This ended the chaos of the land and China was once again united, under Sima Yan's Jin dynasty. Sima Yi was posthumously named Emperor Xuan. Whether Sima Yi truly intended to seize power for himself is unknown, but what is generally agreed upon is that he set the foundation for the Jin dynasty and was one of the greatest minds of the Three Kingdoms Era. ------------------ ---- Move Set ---- ------------------ Key: S = Square T = Triangle O = Circle X = X S- A horizontal slash to the right. They are as follows. 1. Battle of Fan Castle 2. Battle for Jie Ting 3. Battle of Chen Cang 4. Battle of Wu Zhang Plains 5. Battle of He Fei Castle I will give a basic stage layout for each level as well as my recommendation as to how to complete each level. Each of my strategies were done on the Normal difficulty, and there may be variations to how the battle progresses with each battle, but these strategies' purposes will only be to explain a good way to dominate the map by defeating all officers and taking all bases which should net you a hefty sum of points if you also take time to kill enemy soldiers. ------------------------ - Battle of Fan Castle - ------------------------ Allied Forces VS Shu Forces Conditions: Victory: Defeat Guan Yu Defeat: Cao Ren is defeated -Allied Forces- -Shu Forces- Cao Ren Guan Yu -Man Chong Guan Ping Pang De -Guan Suo Sima Yi Zhou Cang Yu Jin Liao Hua Jiang Ji Mi Fang Fu Shi Ren Reinforcements- Liu Feng Xu Huang Meng Da Lu Xun Ma Liang -Jiang Qin Reinforcements- Zhang Fei -Zhang Bao Start off by heading straight and taking the enemy base. Then go along the northern path and defeat Guan Suo and take the enemy base near him. Head over to Guan Ping and defeat him to foil the water attack. Head outside his little fortress and occupy the gate. Meng Da probably will have followed you, so defeat him next. Go south and take over the enemy base. Xu Huang should appear as reinforcements around this time. Now head down and defeat Mi Fang. Then take the path east and defeat Fu Shi Ren and take the gate near him. Head north and occupy the enemy base and defeat Liu Feng. Your allies will probably have advanced south along the eastern part of the map. They will most likely take many of the gates and bases, and they may even defeat some of the officers. Take over any bases or gates they have leftover and then head down and defeat Liao Hua and Zhou Cang if they're still around. Lu Xun should soon arrive and once he does, a scene will play where Sima Yi observes Lu Xun. Go further south and take the base, gate, and defeat Ma Liang. Zhang Fei should arrive around this point. Continue along and take the enemy base and then enter Guan Yu's camp. Take over all the gates and then defeat Zhang Bao and Zhang Fei. Now finish off Guan Yu. After you defeat Guan Yu, a scene will play showing Guan Yu's death at your hands, and he thanks you for a glorious defeat. ---------------------- - Battle of Jie Ting - ---------------------- Wei Forces VS Shu Forces Conditions: Victory: Defeat Ma Su Defeat: Cao Pi or Sima Yi is defeated -Wei Forces- -Shu Forces- Cao Pi Ma Su -Wang Shuang -Li Yan Sima Yi -Jian Yong -Sima Zhao -Chen Shi Zhang He Jiang Wei -Sun Li -Zhang Yi Zhen Ji Wang Ping Cao Zhen -Guan Xing Gao Xiang -Liao Hua Ma Dai Zhang Bao Reinforcements- Wei Yan Xing Cai Ma Chao Zhuge Liang A scene will start things off, showing Sima Yi commenting on Ma Su's ability. Take the gate at the top of the eastern path and head down and take the base and the other gate. Cut off the enemy supply lines too by defeating the Defense Captain at the gate. Now defeat Gao Xiang. Guan Suo should arrive. As you get closer to the south a scene will play with the arbalests. Sima Yi sees Zhuge Liang, but it turns out to be Jiang Wei and he then orders his army to fall back. (He might be defeated as well) Take the gate on Sun Quan's ship, and then defeat Zhuge Jin, Zhuge Luo, and Sun Quan. And thus ends the Musou of Sima Yi. Congratulations! Now enjoy his ending movie, Scheming in the Shadows. ^_^ ----------------- ---- Weapons ---- ----------------- Sima Yi uses a black, feathered fan as his weapons. This is a pretty simple, straightforward weapon to get. All you must do is capture all of the enemy bases producing siege weapons before they do any damage to the castle. I recommend heading out the eastern gate of the castle, and going south. Take the three bases from right to left. The valuable item box should appear up on the castle walls. Head over and take it. Then finish the stage normally. ---------------- ---- Movies ---- ---------------- This section tells how to unlock the movies during Sima Yi's Musou Mode. The Movies can be accessed through the Options menu. I shall also give a description of what happens during these movies. ------ Events ------ A Shooting Star- Unlocks before the "Battle of Wu Zhang Plains" stage. Cao Ren is fighting enemy soldiers and says that he can no longer put up with Shu's ramblings of virtue. Cao Ren then tells the army that victory shall be their's. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Me, Myself, and I - Unlocks before the "Battle of He Fei Castle" stage. Wu's fleet is approaching He Fei Castle. Sima Yi says Wu is finished once this battle is over and that Cao Pi's father's dream shall be realized. Cao Pi then holds his weapon to Sima Yi's throat. He says his father's ambition means nothing to him and that this land is his and his alone. ------------ Ending - Wei ------------ Sima Yi - Scheming in the Shadows - Unlocks once you complete Sima Yi's Musou Mode. Sima Yi stands before Cao Pi and Zhen Ji in Cao Pi's court. Cao Pi has him leave and as Sima Yi walks down the path he says to himself, but directed to Cao Pi, to enjoy his victory while he can.
