DRAGON QUEST AND FINAL FANTASY CHARACTERS 6. EXTRAS 7. CREDITS 1.)) OBJECT OF THE GAME The object of the game is simple. Own as much property, stock shares, and money as possible in order to reach each stage's required winning conditions and advance to the next stage's board. 2.)) GAME MENUS and BASIC GAME CONTROLS Pressing CIRCLE on your Playstation 2 controler will advance you into any menu in the game. Pressing "X" will cancel you out of any selection process. Pressing UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT on your directional pad on your playstation controler allows you to select different options such as game menu modes and moving your character around the game board during game play. Pressing "L1" & "R1" on your controller will allow you to toggle left and right when you go into submenus during your turn of play. After the opening FMV movie where some of the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy Characters greet each other and gather around, celebrating at the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" (very cute touch Square-Enix), you will be taken to the main title page. Pressing Start will take you to the main menu of the game. "Welcome to Itadaki Street. Which mode would you like to play today?" Here the Dragon Quest Slime will explain what each selection on the main menu will do if you select it. I will explain what each slection on the menu is from top to bottom. The first slection is TOURNAMENT mode. This is the single player mode of the game in which you play against the games AI opponents to gain supremecy over Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy lands, hereafter abbreviated to DQ and FF. Once you enter this mode you will be prompted to enter your SAVE FILE NAME which can be anything you wish as long as it isn't longer than 5 characters long due to Japanese hiragana/katakana each representing consonant-vowel combinations allowing them to get away with using fewer spaces, meanwhile secretly annoying the hell out of English speaking people who have names longer than 5 spaces ^_^. Anyway, the first option to the left is HIRAGANA imput the next to the right is Katakana, the third option is for the ROMAN alphabet and numbers and the fourth option moves the blinking cursor to the right one space each time its pressed. If you happen to mess up and hit the wrong key pressing "X" will delete any errors you make. The two bottom right options are CANCEL, which takes you back to main menu and CONFIRM which confirms the SAVE FILE NAME you chose and also takes you on to the CHARACTER SELECT screen which allows you to pick any currently unlocked DQ or FF chibi (small version) character you wish to use to play as. Once you pick a character you will then be asked if you wish to play using your SAVE FILE NAME or the character's original name, displayed in katakana, choose one. If you are continuing from a previously named SAVE FILE NAME you have two options. The first option is to continue from where you were on your save file and the second option is to start over from scratch. Next you will be prompted to choose which stage set you would like to start with. In the beginning you will only be able to choose between 2 stage sets. Each stage set as I call them is divided into individual areas. Once you pick a stage set you must play each board from left to right in that order, not being able to advance to the next board in that stage set until you win in consecutive order. After this you will be taken to a screen with your character and your three opponents lined up under 4 slot machines. The slot machines will roll a number from 1-99. Your number determines your turn order with 99 naturally being the best and 1 being the worst, not that it really matters. Press CIRCLE to activate your slot machine. If you don't the computer will eventually activate it automatically for you, so I always just do it myself. Once you've gone through all these steps, skip down to the 4.)) STRATEGIES AND TIPS (BASICS OF HOW TO PLAY) section of this FAQ for a further explanation of game play. The next selection down is FREE PLAY mode. There is no difference in this mode besides the fact that it is a multiplayer mode for 1-4 players. The third option is SPHERE BATTLE TOURNAMENT mode. More on this once I unlock it. The fourth option down is SPHERE FREE PLAY mode which I will assume for now is exactly the same as the third option, except for multiplayer action.a The fifth option down is RULE EXPLANATION mode. Selecting this takes you to a small basic tutorial of the objectives of the game. Once you select this a second menu will appear. The first option in this menu is RULE BASICS. It explains about rolling the dice on your turn, what the Spade, Heart, Diamond, Clover, Star, Question marks and the banks do. The second option down in this menu expalins about BUYING AND SELLING SHOPS and their significance in the game. The third option INCREASING YOUR MONEY is about the significance of increasing your over all money goal by purchasing Stock or Shares in property you or your opponents own. I will cover these all a bit later in detail. The next option down I will assume talks about the SPHERE BATTLE mode (Updated once I unlock). The last option in this menu explains SPHERE BATTLE mode basic rules. (Updated once I unlock). Back on the main menu under rule explanation is (コレクション COLLECTION) mode. this is the menu you select to view all unlocked items such as unlocked characters, your ranking among other players for each individual game you play, along with your win rating which goes by a point system and tells you how many shops you owned and what rank they were at the point you won. This is further divided by each individual board such as Gold Saucer or Alexandria etc. (Perhaps I'll go into the COLLECTION mode more specifically later in another version update). The 7th option down on the main menu is (オプション OPTIONS) mode. Here you can SAVE and LOAD your game. At the top of this menu you can swich SOUND settings. The first option in the sound section allows you to switch from default STEREO to MONO. The next option down BGM is your background music volume and the one below it is SE special effects volume. Next is your CONTROLER VIBRATION setting. It is set to shake as default pressing left or right toggles vibration off and on. You will know which when your controller shakes. The next option down is DISPLAY which allows you to position your screen the way you desire it, nice for fixing any "cut-off" portions of the game screen. Last but not least is your GAME DATA option, allowing your to SAVE AND LOAD any current or previous game you have already played or were in the middle of. The last option RETURN places you back at the main menu. The last option GAME END, does exactly what it reads, it ends the game, prompting you to turn your Playstation 2 off. So don't press this unless you're done with the game. 3.)) GAME TERMINOLOGY This is a list of terms within the game. Understanding these will help you play the game better. Here I will include the Japanese Kanji, Hiragana/Katakana, and Romanji counterparts as well as an explanation of each term as simply put as I can. Should anyone wish to send me a better explanation of these terms they can be submitted to me and I will review them. If I think a revision is needed I will integrate it into the FAQ and give you credit at the bottom of the FAQ. 収入 (しゅうにゅう=shuunyuu)--this translates to income or allowance. When you pick a chance card with these characters, chances are you are being awarded money into your "Liquid Funds" or money you can use to spend immediately. (that would be the gil amound directly under each player's name) 順番 (じゅんばん=jyunban)--this simply means its your turn (this appears as a small message just before everyone ones turn). 増資 (ぞうし=zousi)--this translates to increase of captial/money. You generally encounter this when you land on property that you already own, in which case allowing you increase your profits at any shop you select, depending on how much money you invest into expanding the size of that property. The more money you spend to expand the size of any property you own on the board, the more money other players will have to pay you for purchasing items if they land on that shop. This option is also available any time you land at the PRIMARY BANK (GOAL) or when you land on the STOCK BANK (this is not on every board). 価格 (かかく=kakaku)--this translates into PRICE. In the game this means the the price you must pay in order to purchase an unclaimed property on the board. UNCLAIMED PROPERTY is any property which is still gray and does not yet have a color (yellow, green, blue, red) of another player yet which signifies that it is owned. NOTE: I am not talking about the outside boarder color of a property, I refer to the color of the ground that the shops are sitting on. I hope that clears up any confusion that may arise from that explanation. 4.)) STRATEGIES AND TIPS (BASICS OF HOW TO PLAY) Here I will try to explain the steps you take during your turn of play. I will attempt to list things in a general straightforward order, however things might not always be played in this order depending on the conditions of the individal boards/stages within the game. 1> The first thing you'll want to do once its your turn is decide what option on the menu you would like to use first. The menu in the upper left corner is what you will use during game play. The first option from top to bottom is ダイス DICE. Selecting this will cause a die to start spinning on the screen. The longer you wait before pressing CIRCLE, the more power will build on the die, causing it to spin faster with energy. If you do nothing after selecting the die, eventually it will roll for you. After you role a number on the die which goes from 1-7 (in some stages I have even seen a die with 8 marks on it) use the directional pad to select the direction you wish your character to move on the game board. Once you have moved your allowed spaces you will have the option to cancel the move and start over (not rerolling, just using the number you rolled to go in a different direction if you didn't like the direction you went), or confirm the place you have moved your character to, so decide one. 2> The second option on the menu in at the top left is 株(かぶ=kabu) Stock/Shares. Selecting this allows you to view things from left to right such as: エリア名 (えりあな=eriana) AREA NAME which is the street or area name, second is 株価 (かぶか=kabuka)STOCK VALUE of the area followed by each character's name and how much STOCK/SHARES you or your opponents have in each area. Sometimes you can scroll down further than what it shows (you can tell by the scroll bar to the far right of the window, so don't neglect anything just because it isn't showing. Below the area names you can see the shops of each area you have the blinking curser on. Here you can see the AREA NAME at the top and below from top to bottom you see お店価格 (お みせかかく=Omisekakaku) which is the purchase price of the shop if you buy it. Below it is 買い物料 (かいものりょう=kaimonoryou) which is the profits that shop makes each time someone lands on it. Under it you'll see 増資あまり (ぞうしあまり=zousiamari) which is how much more you can increase that particular property. There is a maximum mount each property can reach and obviously the higher this number value is, the more valuable that particular property can become as far as increasing its profit output, i.e. how much you can make that property's goods sell for as well as the relative value of that property. Generally speaking, the larger the number to the right of this, the more money can be placed into those properties. This is important when to know when you purchase a property because sometimes properties have so little development value that they may only bring in a few "gil" or "G"=(Final Fantasy Money) even at max development. You will know when a property has reached its maximum development status when you see the word "MAX" where there used to be money in that spot. Note, as you develop a property the number here decreases, allerting you to how much more money can be used to develop it. Also important to notice is that shops name. Take for instance your basic 紙の店 (かみのみせ=kaminomise or PAPER SHOP). This is one of the common shops. Once you spend a certain amount of gil you will see that shops name change to something different such as 魔法店 (まほうてん=mahouten or MAGIC SHOP) for example. As your shop develops, so does its rank and name so keep that in mind. The higher a shops rank, the more stock will be worth if you have invested any in that particular shop. Additionally, when you have other shops along side that shop when you develop it to the next rank, it has a side effect of developing those surrounding shops at no additional cost to you which is definately a good thing to keep in mind when deciding where to invest more of your gil.(More terminology will be added in the next update so please be patient). Tip: Try to buy stock in areas that will make the most total money. Do this by adding up the 増資あまり (ぞうしあまり=zousiamari) or the total amount that can be invested in developing that property. Not only does this help add to your total goal money, you will get a deriviative portion of spending gil each time another person lands on that property. If you land on that property and its owned by someone else, then the derivative amount will help lower the amount you would lose in your total goal amount by subtracting itself from what you would have had to pay without anything invested in that property. Tip: Try to budget your gil the first time around the board so that if the computer is claiming properties ahead of you and you land on them you won't have to sell any property you may have purchased. I've only ran into this a few times so it isn't that big of a deal, but it is something you have to watch for. Buying the expensive locations is nice, but if you have to turn around and sell it because its the only one you bought that time around and you landed on your opponents property, taking you into the negagive (with no stock of your own to help pay) then that can hurt. Tip: Try to buy stocks in sets of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc. This seems to give general more control over your stock shares since each time you buy stock by 10's you will help increase the value of that stock. Additionally, if you own stock shares in the computer's property areas, you can use this to your advantage if the computer opponent is making a ton of gil off his shares. Once the STOCK VALUE 株価 (かぶか=kabuka) is worth a lot you should take your shares out, 10 shares at a time. This will hurt your total goal amount slightly, but it will hurt the opponent a lot more since they have more money invested in that stock. It takes a little strategy, but I've been able to do this on several occasions which has prevented the computer from reaching their total goal a few times. Do your best to always own more stock in the areas where you or the computer opponents have properties lined up in one area. This way if they try to invest money in that area you they will be helping you reach the goal each time they do. Tip: Increasing the your properties item costs also helps prevent enemys from buying the property at a cheap cost. If you haven't noticed, the more gil you invest in a property (particularly the larger ones) the less likely the computer AI will be willing to take the property over because you'll end up with all their money and a boost to your goal number as well. Just something I've noticed. 4a.)) CHANCE CARD EXPLANATIONS (WHEN YOU LAND ON THE 4 MARKS OR "?") Here I will explain what each CHANCE CARD means when you select it. I will list them by their Card Number first and then by the Japanese name for the chance card. There are a lot of these chance cards to cover so anyone who would like to help me with these to save time is more than welcome. This part will be incomplete untill I am able to see all the chance cards or I get submissions of cards other people have revealed. I think there are over 100 different cards. there are 4 marks of interest in this game that appear in every board. SPADE, HEART, DAIMOND, AND CLOVER are the 4 マーク or marks this game refers to. You must collect all 4 of these before you head back to the 銀行 (ぎんこう=ginkou) or BANK GOAL in this game. Once you reach the bank having all 4 marks you will be awarded a level up and you will recieve a money bonus based off of how much property/stock you own prior to you either rolling enough to stop through the BANK GOAL or land directly on it. After you have collected all 4 of these marks the first time, you only need to have a minimum of 3 of 4 of these in any combination before heading back to the bank in order to level up although you will not recieve as much gil as you would having all 4 marks. Occasionally you will be able to get a free mark card which appears to as a little white card symbol to the right of where your normal 4 marks appear. You can have more than one of these at a time. This card can replace any 1 mark you don't want to get. This is good because you might be able to bypass other opponents squares and head directly to the bank to level up faster so make good use of these. You can win these at the casino through any of the three minigames or you can get them as a CHANCE CARD if you're lucky. When you land directly on one of these marks, including the "?" question mark you will be given the chance to go to a chance card screen where you can pick any unpicked card on that board. Chance cards can be good for you or bad for you depending on which one you pick. Of course you can not see what card you are picking until after you have selected, so good luck! You should however try to pick all your chance cards in a single row. When you have picked 4 chance cards in a row you will start to recieve a gil bonus starting from 40 gil with 4 cards to 200 gil when you have an entire row selected. The STAR MARK on the board gives you free stock points at a random area on the playing board if you land directly on it. The 休み (やすみ=yasumi) mark means VACATION OR HOLIDAY OR REST/DAY OFF. When you land on this mark on all of the shops you currently own will be placed on vacation for the rest of that round. Any gil you might have gotten from another person who stopped at your shop while the 休み mark is flashing over your shop won't have to pay anything to you until the next round if when all your shops open again. CARD #19--深夜料金 (しんやりょうきん=shinyaryoukin) This translates to overnight stay charge. This card makes all your shops items cost 30% more than the current showing amounts on each property for 1 round of play. CARD #86--むりやりプレゼント!(=muriyaripurezento) This card makes all other players pay you 100 gil of their liquid spending cash. So, since you have 3 opponents thats 3x100=300 gil that goes to you. CARD #77--すべてのエリアの株を(5)株ずつもらえる!(=subete no eria no kabu wo 5 kabuzutsu moraeru). This card gives you 5 free stocks in every area on the board. CARD #13--ちょー 悲惨お店の値段が13%ダウン!(ひさんおみせのねだんが13%ダウン=hisan omise no nedan ga 13% daun) If you get this card it makes the value of your shops decrease by 13% which is not good because any money you have invested into the effected property gets lost, at least 13% of it. CARD #55--無料招待サービスつきでもう(1)回すすむ (muryou syoutai saabisu tuki de mou 1kai susumu) This card means you have just picked a free advance step. You are allowed to roll the die again and move accordingly. CARD #2--もう(1)回すすむ=mou (1)kai susumu) This card is just like card #55, allowing you to advance again by rolling the die. CARD #97--好きなエリアの株を20%上げる (すきなエリアのかぶ20%あげる=sukina eria no kabu 20% ageru) This card allows you to raise one property's stock of your choice by 20% (that is if you have any property, ) CARD #82--なんとラックのたねを見つけた!(nanto rakku no tane wo mitsuketa!) This card increases an area's shop items by 10% CARD #57--好きな場所へワープできる (すきなばしょへワープできる=sukina basyo e waapu dekiru) This card allows you to pick any location on the current board and warp directly to it. You do recieve any effects associated with the location you pick, so choose wisely. There will be more card translations to come as I remember to record them. Sometimes its hard for me to remember to record them as I pick them since at times I'm frustrated with the games AI and I'm distracted LOL. 5.)) DRAGON QUEST AND FINAL FANTASY CHARACTER LIST This area is reserved for me to mention the cast of "Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Special" I will have the names of each character and the game they originally debued in here. I am a lot more familiar with Final Fantasy characters than I am with Dragon Quest characters, so any information besides submitted to me besides the basic things I want to put here would be ok to submit to me. For those unfamiliar with the names and characters, hopefully this will help give you a better idea of which character is who. (For now I'll just list a few characters I know and I'll fill in the rest of the info later.) NOTE: ALL NAMES WILL BE GIVEN IN THEIR KATAKANA & ROMANJI EQUIVALENTS. DRAGON QUEST CAST ゼシカZESIKA>> DQ 8 Zesika is a pretty serious girl who has a natural talent for using magic. Being very hot tempered at times, she doesn't care much for Kukuuru's flattery and chivalrous behavior once she meets him. She and the DQ 8 protagonists are all brought together due to their equal quest to find and stop the evil Dorumegasu, a sorceror who stole a mystical staff that had been highly gaurded by the royalty of Troden Castle. In fact, she would have probably never gotten involved if it hadn't been for the fact that Dorumegasu killed one of her loved ones, and his soul somehow transferred itself inside a statue at her family's mortuary. She has brown hair in two pigtails on either side of her head. She wears a red dress, brown boots and a violet shirt Her weapon of choice is sometimes a small magic baton, but she most often uses a whip which she wears at her side. ククールKUKUURU>> DQ 8 Kukuuru is best described as a carefree guy who likes to throw back beers with the best of them. He's a bit of a ladie's man and even very chivalrous at times, believing that he can sweet talk his way into a lady's heart. He was raised at a church where he was taken care of by the Arch-bishop there who took pity on the young orphan since he was so young at the time he came to the churches doorsteps looking for a new home. If you've played FF 11 Online he will remind you a little of a Red Mage wearing Artifact Gear. He wears a short cape, has long platinum hair in a pony tail and also wears all red except for his gloves which are black. His weapon of choice is a fencing sword. FINAL FANTASY CAST ユウナYUNA>> FF 10, FF 10-2 This character has both her costumes from FF 10 (must be unlocked through play, and her FF 10-2 Gulwings outfit. Yuna is best described at first as the serious, determined youthfully curious girl, who is very reserved in her duties to rid the Final Fantasy world of Spira of Sin, an evil being bent on the destruction of Yuna's planet in Final Fantasy 10. Her weapon of choice in FF 10 is the summoner's staff. The FF 10 version of Yuna wears the long Japanese inspired dress called a kimono which is pink, white and blue. She wears black boots in FF 10 and FF 10-2. In FF 10-2 her quiet reserve is replaced by a energetic, free-spirited girl who is extremely adventurous as she strives to travel the world in search of clues to find her beloved テイーダ (Tidus) as part of the newly formed Sphere Hunter Gullwings group along side her partners Pain and Ryukku. She sports two guns, one in each hand and looks neat in her daisy dukes lol. パインPAIN>> FF 10-2 Pain can be best described as the cool, calm introverted female protagonist in FF 10-2. She keeps her past to herself for the most part, but she isn't affraid to raise her sword and fight alongside Yuna in their quest to get to the bottom of Vegunagun, a closely gaurded machina weapon kept secret for centuries by the religious group (insert later, the name eludes me at the moment.) Pain reminds me of the replacement for Lulu of FF 10 except where Lulu was adept in magic spells and enchanted dolls, Pain dishes out the pain (pardon the pun) as a genuine warrior. However both women obviously enjoy being decked out in leather regalia. Pains hair is short and platinum and sticks up in wavy plumes resembling a rooster. She wears black leather gloves, shirt, boots, everything ^_^. ビビVIVI>> FF 9 Vivi is one of the main protagonists of FF 9. He is a mage who possesses incredible black magic abilities, yet he is often so unsure of himself that it hinders his self confidence and the use of those abilities. Vivi does not have a weapon in this game for some reason, although as I recall from playing FF 9, he used a magic staff. Vivi sports a very tall floppy yellow mage hat, one of the trademarks of a FF black mage since the original days of the series. His pants are stripped green and white and he wears a blue shirt with brown gloves and boots. As a special side, note he has no face, except for 2 glowing yellow eyes, how spooky. モーグリMOOGURI>> FF 11 Online The moogle race can be seen from some of the earliest FF games to the current versions. Although they have a tendency to have slightly different looks and personalities, they are all usually very friendly, loyal beings. In FF 11 online, Mooguri serves as your your house sitter, tending to everything from taking care of your plants to storing your money. Although Mooguri has a family and life of his own, very rarely does he ask for any time off from his duties as a house sitter. Moogles generally have white fur and the distinctive "pom-pom" sticking out of the top of their heads. Some have wings such as Mooguri. For some reason moogles also like shinny objects and their favorite food is a kupo nut. Although most moogles only speak "Mooglese" as I've termed it, a few who have lived among the Hume (humans in FF 11) have opted to learn English as a means of communication and trade. I'll add more later, but this is just a starter. 6.)) EXTRAS (If any, they will be added here) 7.))
