I made this because I noticed that there were no guides about the minor characters in Stella Deus. Sure, they have no plot relevance, and in the long run become obsolete (although I do find them useful even in late game), but they're fun to use and can be of great help in the first chapters. So I wrote this guide where they're listed along with their skills and some other stuff that might always come in handy... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- 4 -- CONTENTS -- [gencon] -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's a list of what you can find in this guide. Use the Search feature (Ctrl+F), type in the key and then press Enter twice to go directly to the section you need. The key is that weird thing in square brackets. 1. DISCLAIMER [gendis] 2. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS [genfaq] 9. THANKS [genthx] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- 5 -- WHAT ARE GENERICS? -- [genwhg] ---------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The generics in Stella Deus are a total of nine completely optional characters who have little to no involvement in the main story and only serve the purpose of giving you more allies to fight with. These characters are almost identical to the enemies you fight in the story and catacombs and even learn the same skills. They even share the same voice actor, I may add. Anyway, there's a generic version of almost every main character; each generic also has the same Effect Zone as his "main" counterpart. In the long run, however, generics become pretty weak as they can't access the fourth rank class and skillset. All the generic characters can be recruited from the first Chapter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- 6 -- THE CHARACTERS -- [genchr] -------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a list of all the generics who join your party. There are other generic characters who you meet in battle (either by following the story or accepting quests) but, since you can't recruit them (which is a pity, I really wanted an Elementor to join), they are not covered in this guide. Here is an example of how they are listed: -- # -- Name -- [key] -- ------------------------ -- Class: Starting Class >> First Rank Up >> Second Rank Up -- Recruit: A brief explanation on how to recruit that character -- Effect Zone: The kind of EZ the character has. The Circle "O" is the place where he stands, and each Cross "X" indicates a panel affected by the EZ. Remember that the EZ also affects the Circle panel. -- Skills: The skills are divided in Action, Support and Zone. Here are listed the ones the character can learn without using items. "Rank" means at what rank that ability will be learned: 1 stands for the first class and 3 stands for the last. "AP" is the AP cost, "MP" the MP Cost and "SP" indicates the amount of SP required to master that skill. There is also a brief description of what each skill does. -- Notes: Random informations about that character -- Tips: My opinion on that characer and his skills, and small setup suggestions -- 1 -- Mercator -- [genmer] -- ------------------------------- -- Class: Cleric >> Priest >> High Priest -- Recruit: Accept the Troubled Priest quest in Chapter I. Just ask the priest to join your party and he'll comply. You can recruit him right after your very first battle. -- Effect Zone: XXX XOX XXX -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Heal 1 35 10 -- Heal (70) ally within 5 panels Pray 2 45 30 40 Heal (100) up to 5 allies within 5 panels God's Breath 3 65 60 60 Heal (200) up to 5 allies within 5 panels Holy Light 2 40 30 30 Cure status of up to 5 allies within 4 panels Heaven's Gate 3 80 100 80 Damage (250) up to 9 enemies wihin 3 panels Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 MAG + 10% 1 -- 30 Magic Power + 10% DEF + 10% 2 -- 30 Defense + 10% MGR + 20% 3 -- 50 Magic Resistence + 20% Anti-Dark 1 -- 40 Prevents the Dark ailment Anti-Sleep 2 -- 60 Prevents the Sleep ailment Anti-Stone 3 -- 80 Prevents the Stone ailment Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Skills 2 60 Skills damage - 20% Purify 3 200 Cure status -- Notes: Mercator is the only healing-oriented unit you'll get until Chapter 3. Also note that Heal doesn't have an SP cost because Mercator comes with it already mastered. It should cost 20 SP like its alchemic counterpart Quick Cure, but I'm not too sure about that. -- Tips: - Deploying Mercator makes the first chapters easier since you don't have other dedicated healers. - Combo skills are wasted on him: equip him with MAG + 10% as soon as possible instead. Anti-Dark is also useful since the Dark ailment reduces evasion as well as accuracy, and Mercator can't take too many hits. - Right as he reaches tier 2 (Priest) teach him Holy Light: it heals status ailments for up to 5 allies. Adara's Recover only heals one character. - Replace Heal with Pray when you get the chance: it heals more HP and hits more allies. - Anti-Sleep and Anti-Stone are good picks since you don't want your healer to be incapacitated. - EVA Up is a good, cost-effective Zone skill that raises Mercator and any ally in his effect zone's Evasion by 20%. Purify may sound good but you need to END your turn within Mercator's effect zone for it to take effect AND it doesn't give any status immunities, either. - Mercator becomes obsolete as soon as you receive Prier; she can cast the same spells and also has a very nice support magic (Bless) which Mercator can only dream of. -- 2 -- Cody -- [gencod] -- --------------------------- -- Class: Iron Fist >> ? >> Grappler -- Recruit: Accept the Arm Wrestling quest. If you have enough STR, Cody will join your party. -- Effect Zone: X X XXOXX X X -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Iron Fist 1 1 60 30 30 Damage (90) to adjacent enemy Iron Fist 2 2 65 60 70 Damage (200) to adjacent enemy Iron Fist 3 3 70 90 120 Damage (300) to adjacent enemy Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 MEV + 10% 1 -- 30 Magic Evasion + 10% ACC + 10% 2 -- 30 Accuracy + 10% Fear 10% 2 -- 30 Cause Fear when attacking Counter 10% 3 -- 30 10% chance to block and counter attack Anti-Poison 1 -- 40 Prevents the Poison ailment Ignore Geo Effects 3 -- 80 Movement Cost is not affected by terrain Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Attacks 2 60 Physical attacks damage - 20% Soften Skills 3 60 Skills damage - 20% -- Notes: Cody is the only recruitable Knuckles user for a good portion of the game; he can even be the only one if you miss Tia, since he's her generic version. His advantage over her is that he joins much sooner and doesn't say NYA every three damn words; his disadvantage is that he looks more like a bucket rather than a human being. ...seriously, though, Cody's advantage is that he can learn Iron Fist 3 with his second upgrade, while Tia has to wait until her final Rank Up for third and final Action Skill. Cody is good with Agility and Technique (you wouldn't guess by looking at him) and can hit three times from a standstill, but he can't hit enemies standing on a position higher than his. -- Tips: - Tia has tremendous Technique, surpassing even Spero. Cody's Technique isn't as high, but it's still very good. Consider him for combos. - Though he can't hit targets higher than him with his normal attack, he CAN do so with his Action skills. Keep Iron Fist 1 around in case you need a low-cost attack on an otherwise unreachable foe. - The chance to strike Fear into an enemy once out of ten attacks is nice and shouldn't be overlooked. SP cost isn't too high, either, so do get Fear 10% and have fun with it! -- 3 -- Orius -- [genori] -- ---------------------------- -- Class: Archer >> ? >> Sniper -- Recruit: Accept the Thieves quest and head to Saxum. There you'll fight three Lv2 Thieves and a Lv3 Fighter. You can deploy up to three party members, and Orius is your fourth character for this battle. After you win, he'll ask you to join. -- Effect Zone: X X XXOXX X X -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Mail Breaker 1 1 60 30 30 Damage (90) enemy within 3 panels Mail Breaker 2 2 65 60 70 Damage (190) enemy within 4 panels Mail Breaker 3 3 70 90 120 Damage (280) enemy within 5 panels Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 ACC + 10% 1 -- 30 Accuracy + 10% EVA + 10% 2 -- 30 Evasion + 10% Poison 10% 1 -- 30 Cause Poison when attacking Anti-Poison 2 -- 40 Prevents the Poison ailment Tailwind 3 -- 50 Movement Cost - 2 Get Item 3 -- 50 Get a killed enemy's equipped item Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Attacks 2 60 Physical attacks damage - 20% Soften Skills 3 60 Skills damage - 20% -- Notes: Orius is supposed to be Linea's generic counterpart; however, Linea is tricky as she is a mix of an Archer and an Elementor. Orius is a pure Archer and gets no spells, but he still gets high MAG... -- Tips: - Bow users are extremely useful if you place them on high spots and start sniping anything that moves. - Normally, he couldn't hit enemies when they're very close. That's why the Mail Breaker skills are great: they can hit from point blank! - Poison 10% can poison your target. You don't need me to tell you this skill is great, do you? Equip it as soon as you can. - Tailwind is excellent. Reduced movement cost may be just what Orius needs to reach that one high spot in one turn instead of, say, two. - On the other hand, Get Item is useless since it only gives you Vigor Seeds, Blessed Fruits and so on. - Orius' Tier 2 skills aren't too good; you may want to give him EVA + 10% but I recommend investing the SP in Strength. Why? STR affects both damage and movement cost. That's killing two birds with one stone! - Don't bother with EVA Up or Soften Attacks: Orius shouldn't be anywhere near the enemy anyway. Go for Soften Skills instead so as to give him better spell resistance. -- 4 -- Borque -- [genbor] -- ----------------------------- -- Class: Axeman >> Axe Knight >> Berserker -- Recruit: Accept the Thieves 2 quest and go to Eumaneia. The enemies are three Lv3 Soldiers and one Lv3 Axeman. That's Borque. Leave him alone and he'll not interfere with your battle. When you dispose of the Soldiers, the battle will end and you'll be prompted to recruit Borque. -- Effect Zone: XXX XOX XXX -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Slice n' Dice 1 1 60 30 30 Damage (100) to adjacent enemy Slice n' Dice 2 2 65 60 70 Damage (210) to adjacent enemy Slice n' Dice 3 3 70 90 120 Damage (320) to adjacent enemy Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 POW + 10% 1 -- 30 Power + 10% DEF + 10% 1 -- 30 Defense + 10% MAG + 20% 3 -- 50 Magic Power + 10% Counter 10% 2 -- 30 10% chance to block and counter attack Anti-Fear 2 -- 60 Prevents the Fear ailment Get Weapon 3 -- 50 Get a killed enemy's equipped weapon Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Attacks 2 60 Physical attacks damage - 20% Soften Skills 3 60 Skills damage - 20% -- Notes: Borque is the generic version of Gallant. ...or it is Gallant who's the generic part of Borque. I dunno, both have 2 lines or so in the whole game. On second notice, Gallant has 3. That would make him the main, and Borque the generic. -- Tips: - Aside from my Gallant bashing, Borque is a solid character, and literally a tank: not only has he good STM, he also gets DEF + 10% as soon as you recruit him. Take advantage of that! - He is slow, but his Movement Cost eventually becomes extremely low thanks to his high STR: he will have good mobility once his STR gets high enough. - Anti-Fear is great and so is Get Weapon, so you may want to replace your POW or DEF-boosting skills with them. - Don't bother with EVA Up: a 20% increase is too low for him to become a dodger. Wait for Soften Attacks instead: it boosts his prowess as a tank. -- 5 -- Hewitt -- [genhew] -- ----------------------------- -- Class: Fighter >> Knight >> Gladiator -- Recruit: Accept the Punks quest in Chapter I. In Eumaneia, you'll have to fight two Lv2 Fighters alongside Hewitt. You can deploy up to 3 party members. After the battle, Hewitt will join. -- Effect Zone: X XXX XXOXX XXX X -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Flame Strike 1 1 60 30 30 Damage (90) to adjacent enemy Flame Strike 2 2 65 60 70 Damage (200) to adjacent enemy Flame Strike 3 3 70 90 120 Damage (300) to adjacent enemy Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 POW + 10% 1 -- 30 Power + 10% DEF + 10% 2 -- 30 Defense + 10% EXP + 10% 2 -- 30 Gain 10% more EXP Counter 10% 3 -- 30 10% chance to block and counter attack Anti-Dark 1 -- 40 Prevents the Dark ailment Anti-Sleep 3 -- 60 Prevents the Sleep ailments Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Attacks 2 60 Physical attacks damage - 20% Soften Skills 3 60 Skills damage - 20% -- Notes: Hewitt is Avis' generic cousin. And both have a "Flame Strike" skill. -- Tips: - Hewitt is another pretty good generic. His stats are balanced all around and he gets his hands on an EXP boost as soon as you upgrade him! - Avis is away for a good half of the game, so Hewitt can be your second swordfighter if you need one. In fact, you might as well stick with Hewitt while you're at it. - I advise against giving him any combo skills; the main characters already have strong combination attacks and, if you want a generic combo master, you should be better off with Cody or Fujimaru. - As a Gladiator, Hewitt learns his second immunity skill (Anti-Sleep). Pair it up with Anti-Dark and he'll resist half the ailments in the game. -- 6 -- Kruse -- [genkru] -- ---------------------------- -- Class: Spearman >> Squire >> Vanguard -- Recruit: Accept the Lancer quest and travel to Eumaneia. Kruse will attack you alone; he's Lv3. You're allowed to deploy up to 2 party members to defeat him. Once you do, ask him to join. -- Effect Zone: X X XXOXX X X -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Elimination 1 1 60 30 30 Damage (90) to adjacent enemy Elimination 2 2 65 60 70 Damage (190) enemy in straight line (2 panels) Elimination 3 3 70 90 120 Damage (290) enemy in straight line (3 panels) Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 ACC + 10% 1 -- 30 Accuracy + 10% EVA + 10% 2 -- 30 Evasion + 10% SP + 10% 1 -- 30 Gain 10% more SP Sleep 10% 2 -- 30 Cause Sleep when attacking Anti-Stone 3 -- 80 Prevents the Stone ailment Tailwind 3 -- 50 Movement Cost - 2 Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Attacks 2 60 Physical attacks damage - 20% Soften Skills 3 60 Skills damage - 20% -- Notes: Sleep 10% is only learned naturally by Kruse, Lumena, Prier and Viser. However, Kruse learns it before two fo the above even join the party. He can also put two enemies to sleep with just one attack. Neat, huh? Man, do I love Kruse. -- Tips: - Lancers in this game dodge bullets, can attack from a (short) distance and hit two enemies at once. If you're unsure who to deploy, know that a second lancer is always good. - Make sure you don't use auto-attack! The game doesn't mind hitting an ally that's in the way, and you don't want that. - If an ally is in your attack radius and you can't avoid hitting him/her, go with Elimination! It only hits the targeted panel, so your allies are safe. - Elimination 3 has a range of 3, 1 more panel than the normal attack. - SP + 10% is a must. More SP means you get skills faster...or you can raise Kruse's stats instead. SP is never a bad thing to have. - Tailwind is a must, too. Lancer have great mobility themselves, and this skill really makes them shine. -- 7 -- Zol -- [genzol] -- -------------------------- -- Class: Thief >> Bandit >> Shadow -- Recruit: Accept the Wanted Man quest in Chapter 1. Make sure you have a spare Vigor Seed and travel to Montano. Heal Zol with the seed and he'll join. -- Effect Zone: X X XXOXX X X -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Pickpocket 2 65 70 200 Steal item with 50% success Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 ACC + 10% 1 -- 30 Accuracy + 10% EVA + 20% 3 -- 50 Evasion + 20% Dark 10% 1 -- 30 Cause Dark when attacking Poison 10% 2 -- 30 Cause Poison when attacking Stone 10% 3 -- 30 Cause Stone when attacking Jump + 1 2 -- 30 Jump higher Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Attacks 2 60 Physical attacks damage - 20% Soften Skills 3 60 Skills damage - 20% -- Notes: Zol is the only thief you get if you don't recruit Jade, not to mention he's the only thief you'll have for 3 chapters and a half. You'll probably wonder why you even need a thief, though--the fast, dodgy unit in this game is the lancer, and you can grab the enemy's equipment with certain skills, too. -- Tips: - Pickpocket sucks. Pretend it doesn't exist and move on. Why? Because it saps your MP and more than half your AP for a 50% chance of stealing something you can get anyway. And 200 SP is ridiculously dear. - Dark 10% can be a lifesaver. The Dark ailment makes enemies miss more often, and Zol has problems taking hits. - Zol has crappy attack power. He may be able to hit several times, but he'll hardly kill anyone even with 3 attacks. Rely on status effects to make him useful--you get a new one with each Rank Up! - EVA + 20% and EVA Up can help him survive much longer. Consider equipping them as soon as you can. -- 8 -- Fujimaru -- [genfuj] -- ------------------------------- -- Class: Swordsman >> Swordmaster >> Brandish -- Recruit: Accept the Night Stalker quest and go to Montano. A Lv4 Swordsman will be your only enemy, while you can deploy two characters. He has 340 HP and an HP Absorb Zone Skill, but you should be at least Lv5 at that point of the game... Anyway, defeat him, and you'll be prompted to recruit him. -- Effect Zone: X XXX XXOXX XXX X -- Skills: Action -- Rank AP MP SP Effect Broad Slash 1 1 60 30 30 Damage (90) to adjacent enemy Broad Slash 2 2 65 60 70 Damage (200) to adjacent enemy Broad Slash 3 3 70 90 120 Damage (300) to adjacent enemy Support -- Rank AP SP Effect Combo Slash 1 60 30 Combo level 1 Combo Flame 2 65 50 Combo level 2 Combo Flash 3 70 80 Combo level 3 POW + 10% 1 -- 30 Power + 10% EVA + 10% 1 -- 30 Evasion + 10% EVA + 20% 3 -- 50 Evasion + 20% MEV + 10% 2 -- 30 Magic Evasion + 10% SP + 10% 2 -- 30 Gain 10% more SP Get Armor 3 -- 50 Get a killed enemy's armor or helmet Zone -- Rank SP Effect EVA Up 1 60 Evasion + 20% Soften Attacks 2 60 Physical attacks damage - 20% Soften Skills 3 60 Skills damage - 20% -- Notes: Fujimaru is the generic version of Spero, and this is a bad thing. Reason #1: you must deploy Spero in every story battle, and a Spero clone would be redundant and unneeded. Reason #2: Spero is the only character who can double wield. Fujimaru is stuck with ONE katana. Katanas have a very low attack power, and Fujimaru isn't much of a powerhouse either. -- Tips: - Don't equip POW + 10%; Fujimaru has ONE way to deal damage, and that's combos. Give him a new Combo skill every time you rank him up. - SP + 10% is good. It means faster skill acquisition or stat upgrade. - Get Armor gives you the armor worn by each enemy you kill. It's useful, so hang on to it. - EVA Up increases the evasion of any ally who stands on Fujimaru's Effect Zone. All of his skills can be learned with scrolls. Like Adara, he has good Magic Power and Magic Defense. He is also the only one who can learn MAC + 20% without using a scroll. Since he fights with his bare hands, he can't hit targets who stand on higher spots. Not that you'd want him to ever use physical attacks, mind you. -- Tips: - Anyone can learn his skills, but at least he's got a great Effect Zone! Malice prevents enemies within Clemente's Effect Zone from recovering when they suffer a status ailment. They can still heal themselves, though. - I suggest you use him the way you want--either as another magic attacker, or as a backup healer. He shares Adara's versatility, which is always a plus. - Fear 10% is useless since it only kicks in when Clemente performs a normal attack. Let Cody have that skill and focus on MAG/MGR instead. - Get Accessory is very nice, especially if you manage to kill more than one enemy with just one spell! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- 7 -- RANK UP -- [genrup] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- 1 -- WHAT IS "RANK UP"? -- [genwru] -- ----------------------------------------- Rank Up is THE way to power your units up. Each character comes with a class that can be upgraded up to three times. Once upgraded, not only does a character get additional skills to master, he or she also receives a little stats bonus as if he/she had gained a level, and lastly he or she can equip more action skills, for a total of four. Generics can only Rank Up twice. In order to Rank Up, a character needs to meet two prerequisites: 1) he/she must possess an item which varies with the character's class 2) a couple of his/her stats must be at least at a certain level You can check the prerequisites anytime by going to the Rank Up menu and selecting a character. When a character is ready for Rank Up, an "OK" sign will appear over his or her head. -- 2 -- RANK UP ITEMS -- [genrui] -- ------------------------------------ Each class requires a different item in order to Rank Up. This section lists all these items, and a quick way to get them through Fusion. Note that all Rank Up items are Rank 5, and you receive some of them after some plot battles. If you have any, ask them and I'll do my best to answer! You can send an email to hayabusa@hotmail.it Be sure to write "Stella Deus Generics FAQ" as the mail subject. -- Q: Why should I use a generic? Main characters can handle the main quest -- -- and then some! -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A: That really comes down to you, the player. Want an extra lancer/archer/swordsman? There you have it. Some character (coughAviscough) has left the party and now you really want a substitute? Just pick one. You really like the weird enemy design? Now your army can be just as weird! And so on... -- Q: Who's your favorite generic? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A: Gameplay wise, it's gotta be Kruse. What can I say? He's just that good. If I had to pick one based on design, though, I'd pick Zol! That skull-like gas mask is both eerie and...charming, I guess? -- Q: Oh snap! A story character has just joined me and now the game wants -- -- me to get rid of someone in return! Why is that? Who do I kick out? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A: That's because you're only allowed to have 20 characters in your party. You see, an extra character was added in the USA and PAL versions (or so I heard) but the character limit was preserved. Who should you give the sack? I suggest Fujimaru. You already have one excellent katana user other than Spero. You don't need a generic who can barely do enough damage to kill an enemy in three strikes. -- Q: Out of curiosity, who was added in the western release(s)? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A: Bear in mind that I have not played the JP version, so I can't really confirm this. However, Echidna doesn't have any ultimate weapon or Tier 4 class. Every other character does, so I guess she is the USA/PAL addition. Not a bad addition, I might add. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- 9 -- THANKS -- [genthx] ---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before closing, I would like to thank the following: - Atlus for making this good, if not great, strategy game! - GameFAQs (www.gamefaqs.com) for hosting this guide! - Super Cheats (www.supercheats.com) for also hosting this guide! - Divxmania (pic2text.divxmania.it) for the ASCII art! - Torrenal's Fusion Calculator for precious fusion information!
