It will also help you get through her stages, complete all her missions, and unlock her branches and endings. Before you try contacting me, please read through the FAQ first. If you ask a question that is in the FAQ I will not reply to you. ============================================================================ III. Okuni ============================================================================ 1. Okuni's History Izumo no Okuni was born about 1571. This time period in Japanese history was fraught with struggle. It was known as the Period of Warring States, that is, the land barrons (daimyo) fought against one another for power. Her father was ablacksmith for the Izumo Grand Shrine and, consequently, the family served as well. It was a custom to send priests and young women, such as Buddhist nuns, among others to solicit contributions. Izumo was sent to Kyoto to perform sacred dances and songs. She was beautiful and talented. She was innovative as well. Soon her performances received a lot of attention and drew large crowds. Ignoring the summons to return to the Shrine, she set up her own theatre on the banks of the Shijo River in Kyoto. This was a long-known gathering place for the kabukimono, young people and those not so young, who felt alienated and displaced, the homeless, and those who might qualify as the "hippies" of the day. The word Kabuki is the nominal form of the verb kabuku, "to incline in a certain direction" and mono is a certain slang term for people, usually young, who dared to defy the mores of the day. She called her dance performances Kabuki. The performances were gaudy, musical, noisy and colorful. Izumo played parts both male and female. Initially, Kabuki, was a sort of a line dance and song with no significant plot. It evolved into drama with the aid of Sanzaburo Ujisato. He wrote scripts and supported her both financially and emotionally. They were lovers. With his untimely death she continued without him, hiring writers but integrating the drama with music and dance. Her revue met with great success, and her Okuni Kabuki was known and applauded throughout the land. After 25 years she retired. By that time there were many imitations of her form of theatre entertainment. Even brothels offered such shows to amuse wealthy clients. Because of this, the Shogun at that time, Tokugawa Ieyasu, forbade women to perform and thus men were cast into the roles of women in the Kabuki dramas. Even to this day such men are admired as matinee idols. Often one will see them on billboards, post cards, paintings, etc. with eyes crossed. This indicates great tension, confusion, the intensity of making a pained decision... Incidentally, Izumo no Okuni introduced the hanamichi, the "flower path," or runway leading to the stage from the left rear of the theatre, crossing between the audience. Many thanks to Samia for sending me this information found at: http://www.distinguishedwomen.com/biographies/okuni.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. My thoughts on Okuni Okuni uses an umbrella for a weapon. Despite her poor choice of weaponry for warfare, Okuni is a strong and capable character with a great moveset. Okuni is the strongest(in terms of statistics) femalle character in the game. She has good attack with a very good attacking range and quite a few of her moves can clear out crowds in a snap. So before condemning her as your least favorite character to play as, before playing her, you should give her a shot. There is nothing better than conquering feudal Japan with than an umbrella. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Stats ======================================================= | Statistic | Initial | Maximum | ======================================================= | Attack | 55 | 186 | | Defense | 52 | 172 | ======================================================= | Ranged Attack | 48 | 146 | | Ranged Defense | 53 | 170 | ======================================================= | Mounted Attack | 60 | 190 | | Mounted Defense | 53 | 170 | ======================================================= | Speed | 65 | 155 | | Jump | 105 | 155 | | Agility | 75 | 145 | ======================================================= ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Skill Tree Might: Reach >> Guts Frenzy >> Vitality >> Resist Vigor >> Precision Pressure >> Rage Prowess: Acclaim >> Mastery Drive >> Parry Rally >> Pierce Potence >> Cavalier Guard: Fitness >> Block Counter >> Grace Fortitude >> Focus >> Resilience ============================================================================ IV. Unlocking Okuni ============================================================================ In order to unlock Okuni, you must complete the following characters Story Mode: Beat Story Mode with Kenshin Uesugi - this will unlock Keiji Maeda. Beat Story Mode with Keiji Maeda - this will unlock Okuni. Once you beat Keiji Maeda's Story Mode, Okuni will be playable. ============================================================================ V. Weapons ============================================================================ Okuni uses an umbrella(yes an umbrella). Each "new" weapon you find and keep upgrades the strength, appearance, and number of hits you can do with it. You can also find that level 1-4 weapons can have random stats and elements on them. Here is his list of weapons, starting from his first to his fifth: Level 1 Weapon Ban-Gasa(4x Hits) Base Attack - 13 Element: Random Stats: Random Description: A standard Eastern style umbrella. Level 2 Weapon Mai-Gasa(6x Hits) Base Attack - 23 Element: Random Stats: Random Description: An umbrella used for traditional dance. Level 5 Weapon Hikage(8x Hits) Base Attack - 46 Element: Fire Stats: Defense +41 Ranged Attack +33 Jump +49 Attack Range +37 Description: Said to be carried by an acolyte of the great goddess Amaterasu. ============================================================================ VI. How to get Okuni's Fifth Weapon ============================================================================ *WHAT YOU NEED TO DO BEFORE TRYING TO GET HIS FIFTH WEAPON* 1. You must have beaten her Story Mode at least once. Otherwise it won't appear no matter what. 2. You must be playing on either Hard or Chaos difficulty. Requirements: 1. Play Stage 3 - Dance of Ise(I recommend you equip a saddle, preferably Matsukaze). 2. At the start of the level, a mission will activate where you have to advance, but stay close to Goemon. If get too far away from Goemon, Okuni will complain once. This is a warning. If you are still too far away and she complains again, you will fail the mission. Failing this mission means the supply team will not appear. So keep up with Goemon! He does not stop for any enemies(he never does when I play this stage). Although this may sound good, it can get you into a lot of trouble later on. 3. Once you advance north a bit, you will encounter Ranmaru Mori. A mission to eliminate Ranmaru Mori will appear, so do so. Once you are in the fort/base Ranmaru Mori was located in, Goemon will go through the east gate in that fort/base. 4. Keep advancing east until Goemon starts to head south. You will come to another fort/base in the very center of the stage. This is where Mitsuhide Akechi is located. A mission will appear to eliminate Mitsuhide, so defeat him. Continue to head south. 5. Once you get to the south fort/base, you will head east again. Rush ahead of Goemon and approach Hanzo as fast as you can. This will activate a mission to eliminate Hanzo, so do so. Once you have defeated Hanzo, head back to the fort/base in the center of the map. The supply team will appear outside the west gate of the fort/base in the center shortly after Hanzo has been defeated(and all other officers mentioned above). You are allowed to leave Goemon at this point. 6. The supply team will head north from their location(I assume they retreat to one of the gates in the north so you have to be fast). Cut them off and defeat the supply captain for the weapon. Now rush back to Goemon to help him. On your way towards him, you should get a message saying his morale is dropping due to fatigue. After this you will get another message saying to defeat all enemy officers(if you ignored the other ones on your way towards Ranmaru, Mitsuhide, and Hanzo). Ignore this, if you try and go back and defeat the enemy officers, Goemon will be defeated and you will lose. Keep heading to Goemon and once you approach him he should talk and the gate in the northeast should open. Head there with Goemon and go into the gate. The stage will end and you will win and have your shiny new 5th weapon for Okuni now. Enjoy. ============================================================================ VII. SSST: Throws her umbrella to the right, turning 360 degrees around her and the horse, hitting surrounding enemies. Counters/Deadlocks/Musou Attacks Counter(Hold L1 and then press T just as an enemy attacks you): Swings her weapon powerfully upward. So therefore she doesn't have an Upper Branch or a Lower Branch. However she has numerous endings. These endings can stop you from proceeding to the next level. Walkthrough This part of the section will provide strategies I used to complete each of Okuni's stages. I will list them in the same order as I did in the Stage/Mission Listing since this is the same way they are listed in Okuni's "Missions" in the Vault. This part of the section will cover how to beat the stages and proceed to the next one(while covering some missions that come up while doing them). For information on how to unlock all of Okuni's missions and get 100% mission completion, refer to subsection 3. Mission Completion. Stage 1 - Dance of Kyoto Victory Condition: Keiji Maeda is defeated. Defeat Condition: Goemon Ishikawa is defeated. Time: 45'00'00 This map is a little hard to navigate for most people, so I will do my best to direct you through this "maze" of a map. Your first mission is to defeat Keiji and protect the Miscreant(They look like strike ninjas/sumos). So head over to where Keiji is located(he's by the south gate near the middle of the screen). Once you defeat Keiji, he will appear again moments later, a little to the south where you just defeated him the first time. So head to his location and defeat him again. After you defeat him, head towards the northwest corner of the map, as this is where he appears again. He should appear there a little before you get there. So hurry to his location and defeat him before he defeats the miscreant. Moments after you defeat Keiji(or before if you're slow getting to him), Oda reinforcements will appear in the northwest corner(near the gate). Defeat them so they won't cause any trouble for the Miscreants or Goemon later on. After you defeat the Oda general in the northwest, another one appears to east of there(to the direct north). Defeat him so he doesn't cause any problems for you later on. Keiji should appear in this same exact location a few moments later, so defeat him as well. More Oda reinforcements will appear shortly after in the northeastern corner(by a gate again). Defeat them so they don't cause problems later on. After you defeat those reinforcements(general) another one will appear south of where the last one appeared(to the west near another gate). So head south(you will encounter another wall on your way, so break it) and defeat the general. On your way to the Oda general, Keiji will appear in the middle of the map. After you defeat the Oda general, head towards Keiji's location to defeat him before he defeats the miscreant. By now, MORE Oda reinforcements should have appeared to the south. Take care of Keiji in the middle before you head towards them. Once you do defeat Keiji, head south and defeat the Oda general. By the time you arrive to the Oda reinforcements, Keiji should have appeared again to the southwest(by a gate). When Keiji appears to the southwest, you can defeat him to end the stage now. Or you can keep defeating the Oda reinforcements(a total of nine) and that will end the stage as well. Doesn't matter which you choose in the end, but defeating Keiji is faster. The next Oda general will appear near Keiji(sometimes right by him, so be careful not to defeat Keiji on accident if you're trying to defeat the Oda general). If you defeated the Oda general, another one should appear to the west(near a gate) shortly after, so defeat him. Yet again, another Oda general will appear as reinforcements to the north of the one you just beat(by a gate again). Head towards him and defeat him. Can you guess what appears after this? That's right, another Oda general as reinforcements. He appears all the way on the other side to the far east. I suggest you go through the west gate and go through the middle, and exit out of the east gate to get to him. He is the very last of the Oda reinforcements, and as soon as you defeat him, the stage will end. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage 2 - Dance of Osaka Victory Condition: The People of Sakai achieve total victory Defeat Condition: Magoichi Saika is defeated, or the People of Sakai are obliterated. Time: 60'00'00 You start off in the center of the stage. Your first mission appears a few moments after the level starts. You must defend the City of Saika, aka the Reserve Captains by each gate from being defeated by the enemies. Basically all you have to do, is defeat each of the generals by the gates. The Reserve Captains can take care of themselves after that. And to make it even easier for you, the enemies don't start attacking the gates until you get close to them. So, from your starting position, head east and defeat Toshie Maeda by that gate. After that, head west to the gate that is more to the center of the stage(Magoichi should be fighting there). Defeat Nagahide Niwa who is near that gate. Head west again and go north when you can, and defeat Koroku Hachisuka. Go all the way down south until you encounter Kazumasu Takigawa and defeat him. Goemon should be fighting Nobumori Sakuma, and if one of them hasn't defeated him yet, head east from where you defeated Kazumasu Takigawa and defeat Nobumori Sakuma. Oichi will now advance forward and assault one of the gates after the last general outside of the gates of the Oda main camp is defeated. So defeat her before she gets too far. After Oichi is defeated you will get a mission to eliminate Nobunaga. So defeat him and the stage is over. Easy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage 3 - Dance of Ise Victory Condition: Okuni and Goemon Ishikawa reach Escape Point Defeat Condition: Okuni or Goemon Ishikawa is defeated Time: 30'00'00 This stage is a bit annoying. Your first mission is to advance, but stay close to Goemon. If you get to far away from him, Okuni will complain once and the second time the mission will fail. Another annoying thing is that Goemon will not stop for any enemies, which may sound good, but can cause problems later on. So stay close to Goemon and try to take out squad leaders. A ninja unit will strike out in the very beginning of the stage, so kill them or most of them and the rest will retreat soon enough. Once you advance to the north(staying close to Okuni remember), you will come to a second fort/base with Ranmaru Mori in it. A mission to eliminate Ranmaru Mori will appear when you get close to him. So eliminate him. Now, you will head out of the east door of the fort/base(as this is where Goemon goes). Continue to head east(another ninja strike force will appear so kill them quickly) and then turn south and take the path into the center fort/base, which is where Mitsuhide Akechi resides. A mission to defeat Mitsuhide Akechi will appear once you get close to him. So defeat him and any squad leaders around him once again. Continue to head south after this. Once you reach the bottom fort/base, head east again. A mission to eliminate Hanzo Hattori will appear. You know the drill, defeat Hanzo Hattori. Cross the bridge Hazno was on and head north. Once you are get close to the escape point Ranmaru Mori will appear behind you. Just defeat him and continue to the escape point with Goemon to end the stage and proceed to the next stage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage 4 - Dance of Kawanakajima Victory Condition: The Takeda and Uesugi retreat Defeat Condition: Okuni is defeated Time: 60'00'00 Well...there isn't much of a strategy here. If you defeat all enemy officers then the stage will end and you will be taken to the next stage. If you achieve the first mission that comes up during the stage, you run the risk of getting one of Okuni's endings. So I suggest you ignore the first mission which is initial, and head for Shingen Takeda(since he is closer). The first mission should fail and another mission should appear, which is to defeat both commanders. So defeat Shingen(or whichever one you headed towards first). This should make the Takeda Army retreat into Kaizu Castle(fort/base to the east). Now head over to Kenshin and defeat him as well. This should make the Uesugi Army retreat into Zenkouji(fort/base to the north). Defeat any remaining officers on the map to speed things up. Once all officers are defeated or have retreated, the stage will end. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage 5 - Dance of Azuchi Castle Victory Condition: Keiji Maeda is defeated Defeat Condition: Player is defeated Time: 45'00'00 Whee, castle stage. Here we go. - Floor 1: Head straight and take the door to the left. Follow that path until you can turn left, take the door to the left. In the small room, take the door to the right and follow the hallway down(watch out for swinging blade). Go through the door at the end of the hallway. Defeat the general in that small room to open the door. Take the door that opens. Keep going straight and past the general in the wide area, and look to the right, there should be a door, so take it. In the small room there should be a door right in front of you, go through it. Keep going straight and you should encounter Oichi. She says she will lead you to the stairs. She's a big fat phony, so defeat her. There should be a door to the right of where you encountered Oichi, go through it. Another small room, take the door to your right. Go down the hallway and turn right when you can, and take the door to the right. You should be in the staircase room now. Go up the stairs. - Floor 2: Head straight and go through the door. Follow the hallway until you see a door, go through it. In the small room, go through the door straight in front of you. Head down the hallway until you go down a small case of stairs, turn left and go through the door. In the small room, take the door straight ahead of you. Follow that hallway and go through the door at the end. You should now be in the staircase room. Go up the stairs. - Floor 3: Go straight and go through the door. Turn left and then take the door to the left. In the small room, take the door straight ahead of you. Keep going straight until you can't anymore. Once you've gone straight as much as you can, turn left and go through the door at the end of the hallway. Toshie Maeda should be in this room, so eliminate him. Make your way back to the where the first small room(the one where I told you to keep going straight) was. Once you're in front of the door leading to the first small room, turn left and go through the door. In the long room, go through the door at the very end(watch out for ninjas that drop from the ceiling). Follow the narrow hallway and go through the door at the end. In the long room, take the door to the right. Turn right as you exit the room and take the door to your right again. There should be a general in this small room. Take the door to your left and follow the hallway up. You should now enter a room with a huge stairway. Go all the way up the stairway until you reach the staircase. Go up the stairs. - Floor 4: Head straight and take the door to your right. Turn right as you exit the previous room, and go through the door to your right. In the small room, go through the door straight ahead of you. Take the door straight ahead of you. The long room should have a general in it. Take the door straight ahead of you again. Follow the hallway and take the door straight ahead of you. Kazumasu Takigawa is in this small room. He will try to alert others of your presence. Defeat him before the enemy reinforcements appear. Take the door that was straight ahead of you when you first entered the room with Takigawa in it. When you exit the small room, turn left, and then turn right when you can and follow the hallway and go through the door at the very end. This should be the staircase room. Go up the stairs. - Floor 5: Go straight and go through the door straight ahead of you. Once you exit the previous room, take the door to your right. In the small room, take the door straight ahead of you. Keep going straight until you see a door in front of you, go through it. Noh should be in this room. Eliminate her and go through the door to the right when you first entered the room. Head left and follow the hallway into the open area. Once you're in the open area(there are windows), go through the door to your left. This should be the staircase room. Go up the stairs. - Floor 6: You should be in the boss room now. Keiji Maeda and Goemon Ishikawa are in here fighting already. To get Okuni's first ending, defeat Keiji before he defeats Goemon. To get Okuni's second ending, let Keiji defeat Goemon. Either way, the stage will end and you will have beaten Okuni's Story Mode. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Okuni's Endings ============================================================================ *ENDINGS CAN ONLY BE OBTAINED IN STORY MODE* Okuni has a total of eleven endings. That is quite a handful of endings, and they can be a pain to unlock in some cases. So, I will provide how to unlock them here in this section. First Ending("Grand Finale"): On Stage 5 - Dance of Azuchi Castle, you must defeat Keiji Maeda before he defeats Goemon Ishikawa. Second Ending("The Dance of War"): On Stage 5 - Dance of Azuchi Castle, you must allow Goemon Ishikawa to be defeated by Keiji Maeda. Third Ending(Okuni/Nobunaga: "Dreams and Illusion"): On Stage 2 - Dance of Osaka, you must allow one or two(lose anymore and the stage ends in defeat) gates to be sealed. To do this, I usually approach Toshie Maeda so he mobilizes his army and attacks the gate. Now leave him, and defeat all the other generals until Toshie seals the gate he's attacking. Once he seals the gate he was attacking, go and defeat him. This will trigger Oichi to advance. Defeat her and then encounter Nobunaga(you must encounter Nobunaga before you encounter Noh). Once you encounter Nobunaga, leave him and head towards Noh. Defeat Noh and the stage will end. You will get Okuni's third ending. Fourth Ending(Okuni/Noh: "Dreams and Illusion"): On Stage 2 - Dance of Osaka, you must allow one or two(lose anymore and the stage ends in defeat) gates to be sealed. To do this, I usually approach Toshie Maeda so he mobilizes his army and attacks the gate. Now leave him, and go to the southwest and defeat the defense captain in front of Noh's gate leading to her location. Approach her but do not defeat her. Once Toshie Maeda has sealed the gate, defeat the rest of the generals. Oichi will come out, defeat her. Nobunaga will now come out, so defeat him with Noh still alive and the stage will end. You will get Okuni's fourth ending. Fifth Ending(Okuni/Magoichi: "Dreams and Illusion"): On Stage 2 - Dance of Osaka, you must NOT allow ANY gates to be sealed. Go to the southwest, defeating some generals on your way, and head towards the gates leading to Noh. Defeat the defense captain in front of Noh's gate leading to her location. Approach her and defeat her. Now defeat the rest of the generals. Oichi will come out, defeat her. Nobunaga will now come out, so defeat him. The stage will end and you will get Okuni's fifth ending. Sixth Ending(Okuni/Mitsuhide: "Dreams and Illusion): On Stage 3 - Dance of Ise, do NOT defeat Ranmaru Mori and Hanzo Hattori when you encounter them. Defeat Mitsuhide Akechi when you encounter him. When you and Goemon Ishikawa reach the escape point, Mitsuhide Akechi will appear behind you. Defeat all the enemies around Mitsuhiide Akechi, without defeating him. The stage will end and you will get Okuni's sixth ending. Seventh Ending(Okuni/Ranmaru Mori: "Dreams and Illusion): On Stage 3 - Dance of Ise, do NOT defeat Mitsuhide Akechi and Hanzo Hattori when you encounter them. Defeat Ranmaru Mori when you encounter him. When you and Goemon Ishikawa reach the escape point, Ranmaru Mori will appear behind you. Defeat all the enemies around Ranmaru Mori, without defeating him. The stage will end and you will get Okuni's seventh ending. Eighth Ending(Okuni/Hanzo: "Dreams and Illusion"): On Stage 3 - Dance of Ise, do NOT defeat Ranmaru Mori and Mitsuhide Akechi when you encounter them. Defeat Hanzo Hattori when you encounter him. When you and Goemon Ishikawa reach the escape point, Hanzo Hattori will appear behind you. Defeat all the enemies around Hanzo Hattori, without defeating him. The stage will end and you will get Okuni's eighth ending. Ninth Ending(Okuni/Yukimaru: "Dreams and Illusion"): On Stage 4 - Dance of Kawanakajima, achieve the first mission, which is to perform a dance on Mt. Chausu. Now head towards Yukimaru Sanada and approach him. There will be dialogue between Yukimaru, Okuni, and Kunoichi. After this happens, retreat to Kaizu Castle to the east, and reach the spot marked with an "X" on the map. Shortly after you have done this, Kunoichi will appear near Kaizu Castle. Defeat her. Now you must defeat all other officers except Yukimaru Sanada(Do not defeat him). I suggest you go for the commanders(Shingen and Kenshin) last, as the other commander and his army will retreat after the opposing commander is defeated. For example, if you defeat Shingen, and Yukimaru retreats while there are still officers on the map, then you will fail to get the ending. However it does not matter if OTHER officers retreat, as this will count as them being defeated or "off" the map. Once you have defeated all other officers and Yukimaru Sanada is the only officer left, the stage will end. You will get Okuni's ninth ending Tenth Ending(Okuni/Shingen: "Dreams and Illusion"): On Stage 4 - Dance of Kawanakajima, achieve the first mission, which is to perform a dance on Mt. Chausu. Now head towards Shingen Takeda and approach him. There will be dialogue between Shingen and Okuni. After this, defeat Kenshin Uesugi. The entire Uesugi Army will now retreat and the entire Takeda Army will as well shortly after. You must now defeat all officers on the map except for Shingen. If Shingen retreats before you defeat all other officers, or before they all retreat before him, you will fail to get the ending. Once you defeat all other officers except Shingen, the stage will end. You will get Okuni's tenth ending. Eleventh Ending(Okuni/Kenshin: "Dreams and Illusion"): On Stage 4 - Dance of Kawanakajima, achieve the first mission, which is to perform a dance on Mt. Chausu. Now head towards Kenshin Uesugi and approach him. There will be dialogue between Kenshin and Okuni. After this, defeat Shingen Takeda. The entire Takeda Army will now retreat and the entire Uesugi Army will as well shortly after. You must now defeat all officers on the map except for Kenshin. If Kenshin retreats before you defeat all other officers, or before they all retreat before him, you will fail to get the ending. Once you defeat all other officers except Kenshin, the stage will end. You will get Okuni's eleventh ending. ============================================================================ XI.
