Maria: Everyone’s gone... Is it because of those monsters? Maria: What do I do now? Maria: Do I fight and live? Maria: Or do those monsters get me? Maria: I don’t have any reason to go on living, but... *She gets out of her chair and walks across the room.* Maria: But I’m scared to die. I’m so afraid of pain. Maria: Should I... run away? Maria: I want to find somebody. I don’t like being alone... Maria: But... but is there anyone left alive? - - - - - - - - - - - B. I finally found somebody. Maria: Can you open the door? Ernest: No. Maria: But why? Ernest: Is it really necessary for me to answer all your tedious questions? Maria: Yes. Ernest: Oh, I didn’t know that. Ernest: I want to be alone. Other people just irritate me. Maria: I just want to see another human face. Maria: Do you know what’s happening in this town? Maria: There’s no one here...just monsters. Ernest: Yes, I know. Ernest: But so what? Ernest: It’s nothing to do with me. No one here means there’s no one to disturb me. Maria: You want to be alone in this insane asylum? Ernest: Yes, exactly. Ernest: But how can you say that it is this town that is insane? Ernest: Perhaps it is we who are insane. Ernest: Both of us... hopelessly insane. Ernest: Are you satisfied? Would you leave me alone? Maria: My name is...Maria. What’s your name? *There’s no answer. Maria knocks again.* Ernest: Ernest. Maria: Hemingway? Ernest: Baldwin. Maria: Ernest... I’ll be back. ~The following dialouge takes place is you try to go through the door once more.~ Maria: Ernest, are you there? *No one answers.* Maria: No I guess not... - - - - - - - - - - C. Ernest: What a fool... Now... when it’s too late, I finally understand why. Ernest: Why she was there... Ernest: Why she was holding the empty envelope in her hand when she... when she fell. Maria: Ernest, Amy... She isn’t...? Maria: I’m sorry. I’m sorry I reminded you. Ernest: No need to apologize. You didn’t remind me. Ernest: I’ve never forgotten... Ernest: Maria. Ernest: Some things we forget and some things we can never forget...... Ernest: It’s funny... I’m not sure which is sadder. Ernest: It’s been 10 years, but I still... Maria: Ernest,I’m sorry. I didn’t know... Ernest: No, it’s fine. Ernest: Maria, that letter... Maria: I’ll leave it here. *Maria puts the card under the door and Ernest takes it.* Ernest: Thanks. Ernest: Maria....? So you must be...... Ernest: That’s why. That’s why you could see me. Maria: Huh? Ernest: So perhaps that means that I can hope for a miracle as well? Maria: What do you mean? Ernest: In the apartment next door, there is a bottle containing a white liquid. Ernest: I don’t know exactly where it is, but I know it’s in there somewhere. Ernest: I must have it. Maria: You...want me to get it for you? Ernest: Please... Maria: Why don’t you just get it yourself? Ernest: If I could, believe me I would but I...... Maria: ......White? Ernest: I’ll open the stairway door. Maria: I’ll open the stairway door. Maria: Ernest, do you really think it will work? Ernest: I don’t know... Maria: Well, that’s okay. I don’t mind fightin for an impossible cause. Maria: Anyway, it beats just just giving up and doing nothing. *Maria starts walking away.* Ernest: Maria.. thank you. ~The following dialouge takes place if you try to go through the door once more.~ Maria: You think miracles can really happen? You were born in this town. Maria: I’m not sure “God” is the right word. Ernest: Do you believe in Fate? Maria: Not really. Ernest: That’s fine then. Maria: Ernest, can you open this? Ernest: This is a dead end. There’s nothing beyond here. Maria: I know. Maria: So... What if I had said I believed in Fate? Ernest: That James, he’s a bad man. Maria: James...? Maria: Y,yes......
