When he was a little boy, he was very disciplined and brave. Once another boy insulted his teacher, he later killed the boy because he had lots of respect toward his teacher. He was also the cousin of his lord, Cao Cao. He and his brother Xiahou Yuan was among the first few officers to join Cao Cao. He later became Cao Cao's most trusted officer. During a battle against Lu Bu, one of Lu Bu's officer Cao Xing, shot an arrow and destroyed Xiahou Dun's left eye. Xiahou Dun took out the arrow along with his left eye ball, and ate the eye ball. He believe it is also a part of his parents, he can't throw it away. After he ate it he drew out his spear and struck Cao Xing right in his face, instantly killing Cao Xing. After Cao Cao's death, Xiahou Dun died soon afterwards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why use Xiahou Dun ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xiahou Dun is a very quick attacker and a well-round officer. He's both good at fight against crowds and fighting one-on-one against other officers. He's also one of the coolest looking officers and uses a great looking weapon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unlocking Xiahou Dun ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xiahou Dun is initially unlocked in the Wei kingdom. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xiahou Dun's moves ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keys: S = Square button, T = Triangle button, C = Circle button Basic S moves: S - A right to left side swipe SS - A left to right swipe, oppsite of S SSS - A top to bottom vertical swipe SSSS - Turn-around left to right swipe SSSSS - A turn-around 360 swipe from left to right SSSSSS - A large range-covering bottom to top vertical swipe Running S move: S (while running): A jumping bottom to top swipe the send enemy in the air. Charged moves (with T): T(T) - A quick dash ending with a bottom to top swipe. If another T is pressed Xiahou Dun will side swipe from left to right after the first swipe. This move is good for excaping a strong officer or a crowd of soldiers. It is also good to hit a specific enemy. ST - A bottom to top swipe that sends enemy flying in the air. It is good move if you're planning to do more combos on the enemy. SST(TTT) - A continuous tilted 360 swipes that can knock back most enemies. This is a great move for Xiahou Dun, it is easy to pull off and ends quickly. It also does great damages, but the down part is that it doesn't cover much space. SSST - A big 360 turn-around swipe that knocks the enemies infront of Xiahou Dun back. It's a good move to clear-out the enemies infront of Xiahou Dun, but it doesn't clear out the enemies in the back. SSSST(T) - A large bottom to top swipe that sends the enemy flying high in the air. This move gives you chance to combo the enemy more. If another T is pressed, Xiahou Dun will jump up and knock the enemy back down. SSSSST - A powerful vertical sword-wave is sent out infront of Xiahou Dun. The move covers a long range and also does huge damage to whoever it hits. The bad part is that it usually only hits one enemy, and it's very hard to control to hit the specific enemy you want to hit. Normal moves and charged moves summary: Even though Xiahou Dun's moves aren't that great at crowd clearing compared to some other characters, his speed makes up for it. Xiahou Dun's attack speed is one of the best in the game, and can pull off moves one after one quickly enough to aviod the crowds surronding him. Musou moves: C - Repeated left to right swipes, it ends with a huge left to right side swipe that knocks enemies infront of Xiahou Dun away. This musou move is good for one-on-ones and a small number of crowds. But if it's used against a large crowd, it isn't as effective as some of the other musou moves. C (True Musou) - It begins the same with the regular musou move except the enemies that are hit catches on fire. It ends with a big left to right swipe, then a right to left swipe back, then a big vertical top to bottome swipe, and finishes with a left to right swipe. Jump moves: S - A horizontal swipe that can both clear crowds and knock enemies off their horses. T - A good crowd-clearing move that knocks down the enemies around Xiahou Dun. It's a good move if it's connected, but it can be broken by the jump attacks from the enemies around Xiahou Dun. On horse moves: S attacks - Normal left-right swipes. T attacks - A charged up left-right swipe that does more damage than the S attacks, but nothing special. C attack - The mosou attack on horse is nothing more than the S attacks except that it does more damage and looks cooler. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unlocking Xiahou Dun's level 10 weapon (Kirin Fang) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First you must have Xiahou Dun's level 9 weapon before getting his level 10 weapon. The requirements: Play the battle of Xia Pi, Cao Cao's side. First get the Xiahou Dun losing an eye cut-scene event. After the event, defeat Diao Chan. Xiahou Dun then should get the Kirin Fang obtained message. Defeat Lu Bu and finish the stage My suggestions for getting the weapon When the battle of Xia Pi starts, move toward the north of the map and you should meet a group of soldiers, archers, and Zang Ba. The eye event will trigger when you get close to them. After the event defeat Zang Ba and move toward the west of the map. Make sure Lu Bu don't get his reinforcements by destroying his daughter. Then go trigger the stone-clogging river event, the gates should be all open after that. Charge in the castle and defeat Diao Chan, you should get the message telling you got the Kirin Fang. After that just go defeat Lu Bu and finish the stage. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xiahou Dun's models ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model 1 (get this initially): A light blue battle cloth, with a big blue sash with gold-colored metal on the side. Also has yellow inner cloth with blue- purpleish eyepatch. Model 2 (get rank 12): A blue and white battle cloth, with a big blus sash with silver-colored metat on the side. Also has black inner cloth with the same eyepatch as model 1. Model 3 (get rank 7): The exact same custom and eyepatch as model 1, but has a dark blue cape on. Model 4 (get rank 7): The exact same custom and eyepatch as model 2. but has a light blue cape on. Model 5 (get rank MAX): Xiahou Dun's custom from DW3. Gold armor, with yellow pants. Also has a dark blue cape with black, modern looking eyepatch. Model 6 (get rank MAX): Xiahou Dun's alternate custom from DW3 XL. Black armor, with black pants. Has a light blue cape with the same eyepatch as model 5. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My strategies using Xiahou Dun ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Against normal crowds of soldiers: When I'm up against a group of normal useless soldiers, I tends to use Xiahou Dun's T(T), SST(TTT), SSST, and the jumping T. The T(T) is good for first hits on a group of charging soldiers, it's also good for getting out of the crowd and reorganize yourself for more attacks. I use the SST(TTT) on the thickest part of the crowd to knock them away so I have more space to kill the weakened soldiers. I use the SSST when I'm in the middle of the group, I usually use it two times in a row to knock all the enemies back. I usually don't use the jumping T that much unless I have no choice. This move is good if it's pulled off correctly, but 75% of the times I try to use this move I get knock back down by jumping soldiers. Against officer along with soldiers: When I'm up against a cheap officer who brings a group of bodyguards and archers, thinking that he'll have a better chance of winning, here are the moves I use against them. The T(T), SST(TTT), SSSST(T), and the SSSSST. I use the T(T) first, so I can get through the running attacks of the guards and get a first hit on the officer. I then use the SST(TTT) to knock back the guards or kill a group of archers near by. I also use the SST(TTT) on the officer because it's quick and reliable. If the guards and archers are all finished, I use either the SSSST(T), or the SSSSST when I'm sure the last T will hit the officer. Those two moves are the best against one officer, but not reliable against a crowd. When dueling: When the duel first start, I use the T(T) and try to get the first hit. If it fails, I usually go into the guard mode and let the officer finish his attacks on me. Then I try to circle around them in the back and use either SST(TTT), SSSST(T), or SSSSST. The SST(TTT) is good and quick, usually all the hits connect, but the damage it does isn't that great compared to the other two. The SSSST(T) is also a good move to use, the hits also connect most of the times, but if not done correctly the officer can block the hits. The SSSSST is the most riskiest of the three. The first 5 SSSSS usually connects, but if the last T is tilted even one bit, the hit can miss. If the last T does hit, the officer will get knocked back and I just use my bows and arrows to finish him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Suggested items for Xiahou Dun ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In DW4, you have a wide range of items you can choose from, different horses, orbs, and items. Here want I suggest to use when playing Xiahou Dun. Xiahou Dun (4 item slots) Harness: Shadow, Red Hare. (Use the Shadow so you can¡¯t get knocked off, but when you're rushing through a stage, take the Red Hare) Orbs: Lightning Orb, Slash Orb, or Fire Orb. (I like to use the Lightning because when enemies are struck it gives you more time to combo them again) Items: -Peacock Urn -Dragon Amulet -Tiger Amulet -Elixer or Way of Musou I always carry a Peacock Urn with me when I go into a battle. You want to extract the very last bit of hit-point possible, they could be the difference between victory and defeat. Don't go into a battle without one. Because Xiahou Dun is such a fast attacker, I just skipped the defense and went for the attack and musou, hoping that they will make up the lack of defense. Between Elixer and Way of Musou, most of the times I go for my Elixer. Even though True Musous does huge damages, I want to be able to pull of musous fast along with Xiahou Dun's fast attack. But if you're Elixer isn't that great, I suggest the Way of Musou. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FAQs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When I get questions about Xiahou Dun, I will post them in this section along with my answers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I created this guide all by myself, but still, I have a couple of people to give out thanks to.
