Introduction -- Version History -- 1.1 (5 October 2003, 22.0 KB): Guide updated to include the confirmation of the Hidden Demos in the PAL version. 1.0 (24 September 2003, 21.5 KB): The first version of this guide released to the public. It looks a bit rushed, I know, but I originally wanted to get it out before Hurricane Isabel struck. (Oh well...) I had been sitting on a 75% done guide for two weeks due to an illness and school, and now I have a little bit of time to finish it. The actual content of the guide? It has the basic information on what the Hidden Demos are and how you can get them, as well as descriptions of each Hidden Demo. I apologize in advance for the monotonous descriptions in Section II. -- What is a Hidden Demo? -- [Historical Note (skip if you want): I first "discovered" these Hidden Demos a few months ago after comparing my gold time to the Demo on some license test. I let it stay on the menu for a few seconds because I thought that the small window would show a replay of my run (which is what it usually does after you finish a test), but something weird happened. I had not seriously considered making a guide about it until after I finished my first game guide two months ago...] A "Hidden Demo" is a special replay of a license test (recorded by Polyphony Digital) in which the driver totally screws up (instead of running it well like the actual Demo). You can tell that it is a special replay because the car keeps going after it runs off the track or into a wall (if you tried to re-create most of the Hidden Demos in the test scenario, you would fail the test and the car would stop). Due to the nature of these hidden clips, I also call them "Anti-Demos". However, they will be referred to as "Hidden Demos" for the rest of this guide to prevent confusion. Each license test has one Hidden Demo. The Hidden Demo runs about as long as the regular Demo for its respective test. It appears in the small replay screen in the top left of the License Test's menu. Here's how to view the Hidden Demo of a test: 1) Go to the License Center. Pick a License and a test (B-2 for example). 2) Select Manual Transmission (MT) under Options (skip this if you are already using Manual for license tests) 3) Take the test. It does not matter if you pass the test, but whatever you do, DO NOT EXIT THE TEST EARLY. Let the game take you back to the Test menu (or the Name Entry screen if you get a top time). 4) When you get back to the menu for the test, enter the "Demo". (You can exit the Demo whenever you want; you do not have to see all of it) 5) Return to the menu and just watch the replay in the corner of the screen. This should be the Hidden Demo. There are no license or test requirements for viewing the Hidden Demos other than what you need in order to enter the test itself. II. License Test Hidden Demo Descriptions "Mr P" from the GT3 board at GameFAQs has confirmed the existence of the Hidden Demos using a North American version of the game (the NA version Demos were later confirmed by "Mr Chaos" as well). He has also tested it on a Japanese version of GT3, but he has been unable to find them there. (Readers, please try these out and tell me what you get (especially if you have a Japanese version of GT3). My contact information is at the end of this document.) !!UPDATE!! (5 October 2003) Jack Beckley and "Masamune3" have both confirmed that the Hidden Demos are in the PAL version of GT3. The following Hidden Demo descriptions are for the North American versions of Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. I am using a "Greatest Hits" copy, so I am not sure if these work for non-GH GT3. One last note: All of the descriptions are from the "chase" camera angle, with the exception of R-1 (I could not get the window replay to go into chase view for some reason). -- B License Exams -- B-1 The test car launches normally, but it stops accelerating after fifty meters or so. Just before the 400-meter mark, the brakes are applied and the car comes to a stop. The car idles for about 10 seconds and the clip repeats. B-2 Same as B-1, except that the test car goes 50 meters further, stopping just before the 450-meter line. B-3 The test car starts out slower than in the regular Demo. At the course's Start/Finish line, the car trails off to the right of the Demo's path. The car stops at the second "Goodyear" sign and does a 180-degree left turn. Then, the car begins to travel the wrong way down the straight. B-4 The car moves slowly down the straight until after the second "Goodyear" walkway/overpass. There, the car slows down and turns/spins to the left a lot (I counted 630 degrees) before backing into the left wall. B-5 The test car makes the first turn too early and hits the inside (left) wall. Then, it crosses the track and hits the right-side wall, as well. The car rides along the wall for a few seconds and the clip ends/repeats. B-6 The car turns into the left wall like in B-5, but this time, it stays up against the wall. The car spins its tires for a few seconds, and then it idles for a while. B-7 The test car runs off the track to the left, then it turns right and hits the wall on the right side. After freeing itself from the wall, the car spins to the right (450 degrees?) before colliding head-on with the wall on the left side. The car backs up, hitting the right-side wall again, and the clip ends. B-8 Before the first tunnel, the car veers left and off the course, hitting the wall. The car then goes the wrong way on the track, traveling well past the "License Start" line (but not far enough to get near the auto-fail barrier cones). During the rest of the clip, the test car does a couple of 180-degree spins/turns (aided by a rail) before returning to the track. -- A License Exams -- A-1 The car is slow to accelerate at the beginning of the test. Just after the Start/Finish line, the car turns left and hits the wall. After that, it spins to the right, hitting the walls on both sides of the track. At the end of clip, the car rolls slowly into the wall on the right side. A-2 The test car runs into the left wall and slides for a short distance (across the Start/Finish line). It then runs head-on into the walls on the right side twice. The car backs away from wall slowly, and the clip ends. A-3 The car starts out slower than it does in the Demo. Just before the Start/Finish line, the car goes slightly left of the Demo line. It then turns to the right and hits the wall just past the pit exit. The car continues to spin the right until it hits the wall on the left side of the track (under a "Goodyear" sign). A-4 Almost immediately after the start of the test, the test car goes off the track to the right, slamming into the support pole of a "Polyphony Digital" sign. The car then spins to the right, making several full rotations (I counted five). After all that, the car gets back on the track, moving at a very low speed (but not stopping), and the clip ends. A-5 This clip is basically the same as A-4, except for the following: The test car does not collide with a sign post, the car makes eight full rotations while spinning instead of five (after the last one, it is facing a "Toyo Tire" sign), and the car backs into the inside (right) fence at the end of the clip. A-6 [This is one of only two clips in which the car actually crosses the Finish Line of the test. In both cases, the car still fails...] The test car exits the first turn a bit wide, and then it goes into the grass on the inside of the second (long left) turn (this is where it would fail, since all four tires are off the track). The car gets back on the track, taking the rest of the turn properly, and it crosses the "License Finish" line. (Nothing special happens after that.) A-7 Short test, short clip. The car turns right way too early, hits the guardrail, and stops. That is all. A-8 [This is the other clip in which the car makes it to the Finish Line.] The test car makes a mistake in the hairpin turn, and it slides to the outside, where it hits the wall. Surprisingly (compared to the clips for the other tests), the car gets back on track and continues. The car also hits the left wall inside the tunnel, but it does get to the "License Finish" line. -- International B License Exams -- IB-1 The test car start off like the Demo, but then it veers to the inside and it spins out against the fence. The car then proceeds to spin to the right several times, after which it goes into reverse in order to push a cone. IB-2 The test car crashes into the support pole of the first "Polyphony Digital" sign, and then it spins to the right several times (not unlike IB-1). IB-3 The car turns too early for the hairpin and it smacks into the barrier on the right side. After pulling away, the car runs into the barrier on the other side, and then it stops completely. IB-4 At the Start/Finish line, the test car veers to the left and hits the guardrail. Then, it continues down the track until it hits the rail on the right side (directly under a "RUF" sign). (Extra point of detail: The car hits the brakes just before contact with the guardrail.) After it hits, the car turns so that it is perpendicular to the rail, and then it stops. IB-5 The car goes inside the tunnel, hits the right-side wall, spins around, hits the left-side wall, and then spins the tires some. IB-6 The test car makes the first right turn early and it goes into the sand. It then comes back onto the track briefly before moving off to the right again. Next, the car turns left, cuts directly across the track, and hits the wall off the left side of the track. Finally, the car moves away from the wall, and the clip ends. IB-7 The car runs into the first cone on the right, then it veers to the left and off the track. The car spins to the right several times, going back across the track to the dirt on the right side. After the spins, the car starts to roll forward slowly and the clip ends. IB-8 The test car grazes the inside wall of the first left turn. A little later, it hits the left wall head-on. After that, the car goes across the track and collides with the wall on the right side. The test car then goes in reverse, crossing the track again, and the clip ends there. -- International A License Exams -- IA-1 The car handles the first turn and the straight well, but it botches the chicane, slamming into the walls on both sides. The car also goes the wrong way on the track for a second or two before the clip ends. IA-2 Another short test, another short clip. The test car turns left way too early, hitting the all just beyond the closed-off pit entry. IA-3 The car takes a right turn too early, hits the "rail", continues, and then it hits the left barrier. Next, it hits the barriers on both sides again. Finally, the car starts going the wrong way up the track, and the clip ends. IA-4 The test car stops about two-thirds of the way down the straight, where it proceeds to grind against the traffic light located just past the pit exit. IA-5 Just before the Corkscrew, the car hits the curb on the right edge of the track, making the right side of the car lift off of the ground. The car spins and hits the left wall before cutting back across the track to hit the wall on the right side (directly underneath the "Firestone"/"PlayStation"/"Shell" portion of the advertisements decorating the barrier there). Finally, the test car backs away from the wall with the advertisements and it collides with the left-side wall again. IA-6 The test car takes a left turn to early, and then it spins the tires for a few seconds while facing the left guardrail. The car backs away from the rail very slowly, and the clip ends. IA-7 The car runs off the track to the inside of the gentle curve. After it returns to the track, the car takes the first hilly left turn much too early and glances off the left rail. The car then crosses the track and hits the rail on the right side. The car proceeds to go the wrong way for a couple of seconds before crossing the track again to hit the left rail (for the second time). The car finally settles next to the left-side rail (it is still moving slowly at the end of the clip, though). IA-8 The test car goes off the track and onto the inside grass twice in the first turn. Upon exiting the turn, the car leaves the track to the right, where it "clings" to the guardrail for a few moments. The car crosses the track one more time, and it hits the left guardrail. -- Super License Exams -- S-1 The car takes the first two corners well, but on corner #3 it turns right too early, get into the sand, and spins out. After a couple of spins and a head-on collision with a guardrail, the car continues on to the "180-degree broad left" (as it is described in the game's explanation of the test). In the middle of the turn, the car spins out against the left railing, hits the right guardrail, and then backs into the left rail. The clip ends here. S-2 The test car makes it past the first chicane, but it makes contact with a wall soon thereafter. The car immediately slows down, temporarily stopping under a "Havoline" sign. Fore the rest of the clip, the car moves very little, twitching about near a truck that has the GT logo on it. S-3 This is a real stealth blooper clip. Unlike the other 47 special clips, in this one, the test car runs the license exam quite well for almost a full minute before deviating from the Demo. At the end of the back straight, the car slows down and hits the wall/grass barrier to the left. It then runs into the barrier on the right side (under a "Ford Racing" sign) before turning back to hit the left-side barrier again. The car spins its tires, and the clip ends. S-4 This is almost the opposite of S-3, because the test car messes up before the first turn. The car turns right early and it hits the wall under a group of "TOM's" signs. For the rest of the clip, the test car continues to spin out and hit the walls. The car finally comes to rest under a "Lotus" sign. S-5 The car hits the inside rail in the tunnel and comes to a stop against it. The car then goes to the outside wall and collides with it a couple of times. The test car ends up going the wrong way and back outside the tunnel entrance. Its final destination is next to the left wall, in the pit exit area (try going there in the test yourself and you'll fail automatically). S-6 The test car runs off the track to the left near the entry to the first corner (if you are using the "behind the car" camera angle, you will get a nice view of the Sun here). The car doesn't do anything special in this clip (other than wallbanging and spinning off both sides of the track). Watch for the "Firestone" and "Bosch" signs; you will get a good look at them here. S-7 The test car touches the inside rail of the first corner and then it collides with the outside (left) rail. For a few seconds, the car is "stuck" below a group of billboards ("Nissan"/"Yokohama"/"Shell"). Near the end of the clip, the car is lined up perfectly with the gap in the next turn. It accelerates straight through the turn and into the outside (left) rail of the corner exit. The car stops and the clip ends. S-8 The test car grazes the inside rail of the first turn, then it hits the outside rail upon exiting the turn. The car spins out against the left rail, stops at the beginning of the "straight", and runs into the right guardrail. At this point, the car moves against the guardrail a bit, giving the viewer a nice look at the city and coastline below (if you are using the "behind the car" view). -- Rally License Exams -- R-1 The car bumps the right-side wall on the way down the straight. At the end of the straight, the car fails to turn at all, and it smacks into the outside wall. The car starts to roll backwards, and the clip ends. R-2 Nothing special here; this clip is just the standard fare of spinouts and wall collisions. There is a nice sideways downhill slide near the end of the clip. Also, there is a nice view of the sun at the end. R-3 The test car messes up the left turn, hitting its front end on the inside barrier. It then goes the wrong way for a bit before hitting the fence again (under a "Toyota" sign). R-4 The test car turns too early and hits the left barrier before reaching the first corner. After freeing itself, the car slams into the barrier again. R-5 The test car slides into the rail on the right side, then it turns left and hits the wall of "Mitsubishi" signs on the other side (^_^). Anyway, the car backs away slowly and the clip ends. R-6 The car begins to take the first left hairpin normally, but in the middle of the turn, it swings out and hits the outside (right) wall (directly under a "Ford Racing" sign). The car then turns around and smacks into the left wall (the "inside" of the hairpin). R-7 The test car slows down in the middle of the second hairpin. Then it turns towards the outside (right) and hits the ball. The test car then foes down the course a little more before hitting the left ball. The car starts backing up, and the clip ends. R-8 The test car spins out just before the first of the uphill hairpins. For about a full minute, the car rides along the left barrier. [Well, that's how long it seemed; I never actually timed it.] After that, the test car start going the wrong way on the track (back towards the tarmac section). The car does one more spin, and the clip ends with it slowly backing into a wall (if you use the "behind the car"/"chase" view, you will see some flowers at the very end). III.
