INTRODUCTION ======================================================================== Hi, welcome to my SNK Fan Collection FAQ. This is a bonus disc that came packaged with "Garou Denestsu Real Bout: Dominated Mind," which was a sort of remix of Garou Densetsu Real Bout for the PSX. The premise of the bonus disc is pretty simple; you get to interview the Garou Densetsu cast and learn more about them. Since the majority of the game involves reading Japanese text, I figured I'd write up a brief guide to help non-Japanese readers (which includes myself, aheh) play the game. My Japanese really isn't that good, so I can't give exact translations of what the characters say to you, just a few generalizations. Still, you can use this guide to complete the game and unlock all the bonuses. The "Fan Collection" disc was originally going to be sold on it's own, (there was an ad for it in the back of the Saturn KoF '98 manual, even) but I recall reading somewhere that it was canceled for some reason, and what had already been completed was put on CD and made into a free goodie for those who bought Dominated Mind (I don't know if this applied to all the copies of DM, or just to the first release, etc.) If anyone has any more info. on this, I wouldn't mind hearing from you. This FAQ uses SHIFT-JIS encoded text. You'll need a program that can display Japanese in order to see the text properly. I suggest going to and checking out one of their fine products. HOW TO PLAY ======================================================================== When you begin the game, you can either start a new game, or continue an old one. If you want to load your game, you must then choose "yes" [ はい ] to continue, or choose "no" [ いいえ ] to decline. The default is "no." Keep in mind that you can give the same present to more than one person. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ INTERVIEW A CHARACTER [ インタビュー ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Interviewing a character is usually pretty straightforward. Just go down the list and select each question, and they will give an answer. Sometimes they want you to guess the answer yourself (see the next section for answers). Also, sometimes you can select an question more than once to get a more detailed result. For example, if you keep asking Michael Max what he dislikes, he gets so enraged that he ends the interview with you. So try to be polite :) Once you've gotten the answers to every question, you'll see this message: [ よし、これでプロフィールは全部理まったぞ。] Afterwards, you will receive that character's autograph [ 色紙 ]. After finishing the interview, you have the option of doing one of three things: - You can give them a present. [ プレゼント ] - You can ask them to quiz you. [ クイズ ] - You can punch them. [ パンチ ] Note that you don't have to wait until the interview is complete to give them a present, take the quiz, etc. You can press the Triangle button while at the "question menu" to go into the option menu listed above at any time. If you give a character the correct present, then the "rough sketch" section of their Data entry can be viewed. Sometimes this also adds bonus questions to the "question menu." If take the self-quiz and get a perfect score, then you will get that character's "relationship chart." What's more, new question(s) will appear at the bottom of the "question menu" for you to ask. One of the new questions is almost always, "Regarding the other characters...." [ 他の選手について ], while the other(s) are usually about something personal relating to the character you're talking to. You'll know when you've gotten all the questions answered, because this message will appear: [ よし、あまり突っ込んだ質問はこのぐらいにしておこうかな。] Some of the questions only appear if you've gotten other questions answered (for instance, when intervewing Duck King, the bonus question about P-Chan won't appear until you've asked him what is most important to him.) Don't worry if you fail the quiz, you can take it as many times as you want. Also, note that you can press Start to exit out of the interview at any time. Punching someone has one of three effects: 1. Normally, it will piss them off. This seems to have some effect on the interview, but I can't tell what it is. 2. If you've gotten the above message after completing the interview, and you've completed the self-quiz, and given that character the proper present, then they will appreciate your fighting spirit and the "color illustrations" section of their Data entry can be viewed. 3. After completing step 2, punching them simply irritates them. For some characters, it's impossible to complete their bio without talking to other characters first (or stopping the interview, talking to someone new, and then resuming the original interview). ======================================================================== 4. CHARACTER BIOS ======================================================================== After each character's bio is a list of correct answers for questions you are asked during the interview. Beneath that is a list of correct answers for the self-quiz option. Finally, there are some notes on interviewing that character, if applicable. Characters are listed in alphabetical order. The bios for most characters were taken from a bio chart I translated for a friend's Dominated Mind FAQ (see the special thanks section), so there are some slight differences from the actual bios you'll see in the game. However, where there was a difference between DM and the Fan Disc, I put in the Fan Disc's information. Then again, since I provide all the answers to the questions you are asked, you don't even need to refer to the bios, really. Although this game was a bonus pack-in with Dominated Mind, neither Alfred nor White are present in this disc. Then you can go talk to Mary, and there will be a question about it. Ask the question twice, then go down to the bottom and ask the bonus question about Geese. - The full name of Mary's dog is "Antonio," which I guess makes "Anton" his nickname. - The first time you meet Mary, she's on her bike outside of the Pao Pao cafe.  - You have to ask Krauser about his name twice.  The second time, he
   tells you about his title, "Yami no Teiou" (Dark Emperor).
 - When you ask about Krauser's favorite music, he asks you this 
   question: "What do you think of the sound of my music?"
    [ どうかね、我が楽団の奏でる音色は？ ]  Either answering
   "Splendid" [ すばらしい ] or "I think..." [ 私には… ] is acceptable,
   though he seems to prefer the first one.
 - When you ask Krauser the second bonus question about Laurence
   [ ローレンスについて ], you have to ask about it twice before you
   get the full answer.

 Here, you can check out the data you collected on a certain character,
 as well as look at any goodies you might have earned (like someone's
 signature, or illustrations of that character, etc.)

 If you've fully completed a character's data listing, then their
 portraits will be marked with the following: [ 完子 ].

 Once you've selected a character, you can choose from the following
 options:

  - Autograph / Relationship Chart    [ 色紙・相関図 ]
  - Fatal Fury pictures               [ 餓狼伝説 ]
  - Fatal Fury 2 pictures             [ 餓狼伝説２ ]

  - Fatal Fury 3 pictures             [ 餓狼伝説３ ]

 The "Profile" shows all the information you gathered from the interview,
 minus any bonus questions you may have asked.  The option beneath that
 lets you see that character's autograph and/or relationship chart, if
 you earned one of them.  If you earned both, then you can press right
 to view the other one.

 The remaining options let you see artwork (rough sketches and/or color
 illustrations, depending on what you've earned) for your character.
 Just keep pressing right to see more pictures (if applicable).
 Obviously, if that character wasn't in a particular game, then you
 cannot choose that option (for instance, Geese Howard wasn't in Fatal
 Fury 2).

 FAN ROOM                                              [ ファンルーム ]
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------

 In this section, you can check out the contributions of SNK fans.  There
 are two options to choose from:

  - Illustrations               [ イラスト ]
  - Cosplay                     [ コスプレ ]

 The first option lets you browse through a collection of drawings.  The
 second option shows you pictures of "costume players," people dressed
 up as members of the Fatal Fury cast.

 - If you choose the Message Speed option, you can then set the text
   speed (1 is the slowest, 5 is the fastest, and 4 is default).
 - If you choose the Sound option, then you can choose between stereo
   sound [ ステレオ ] or monaural sound [ モノラル ].  By default, it's
   always set to stereo.
 - If you want to save your game, you must then choose "yes" [ はい ]
   to continue, or choose "no" [ いいえ ] to decline.  The default is
   "no."
 - It then asks if you want to overwrite your existing save (if you
   have one).  Again, choose "yes" or "no."
 - If you want to load your game, you must then choose "yes" [ はい ]
   to continue, or choose "no" [ いいえ ] to decline.  The default is
   "no."

 DANCE MODE                                            [ ダンスモード ]
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------

 In this mode, you can watch Duck King dance to a remixed version of his
 old Fatal Fury Special stage music.  The controls are as follows:

   Control Pad          Change the camera angle
   Square button        Moves the dance stage upwards
   Triangle button      Moves the dance stage downwards 
   X button             Makes the camera zoom out
   O button             Makes the camera zoom in
   Start button         Brings up an option screen

 The four shoulder buttons (R1, etc.) can also be used to change the
 camera angle, but I'm not sure how they work.  The result seems to
 change based on the current camera angle.

 If you press start, you can choose to continue watching Duck dance
 (the top option), or you can quit and go to the Main Menu (the bottom
 option).

 6.  MISCELLANEOUS
 ========================================================================

 VIEW OPENING MOVIES
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
 If you wait at the Title Screen for a while, you can watch an FMV intro
 of all the Garou Densetsu games (from Fatal Fury to Real Bout Special).


 DEVELOPER'S ROOM
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
 After completing the interviews with each character, the developer's
 room [ 開発室 ] can be accessed by choosing the square above Richard
 Meyer.  You can talk to several of the developers by pressing right to
 highlight each person's desk.  The developers don't have voices, and
 their questions tend to vary from the normal interviews.  Also, you
 can't give them presents or have them quiz you.  Even if you talk to
 all of them, their section never gets labled as being complete.

 Perhaps in a later revision of the FAQ, I'll try to add in sections for
 each developer, but it requires a better handling of Japanese than I
 have :)

 Keep in mind that you can also check out a bunch of pictures by going
 under "Data" and choosing the "Developer's Room" square.
