I n t r o d u c t i o n / M e c h a n i c s =============================================================================== This is a guide for the Kuzunoha detective agency in Persona 2 : Eternal Punishment. You will be introduced to this office early in the game as the place to go to spread rumors and you can also utilize the magazine sweepstakes here. This guide will briefly explain how the rumor system and magazine contests work, provide a full list of every rumor in the game, and provide a full list of every prize to be won through the magazines. ---Rumor System---------------------- First, an explanation of the rumor system. It's quite simple, really; you get a rumor from a source and you go to Kuzunoha and spread the rumor (for a small fee). Your major source for rumors will be the five "Rumormongers" spread throughout the city. They are: Chunky in Gatten Sushi, the Barkeep in Jolly Roger, Toku in Shiraishi, Chikalin in Peace Diner, and...well, one more that is a partial spoiler (see section IV.). There is one more regular source of rumors - Baofu's message board at the 2X Slash. There is also one more source that is not quite a rumormonger but has a number of rumors nonetheless, the Rumor Lovin' Bartender at Ebony. These sources provide the bulk of the rumors in the game, but there are others as well. There are certain NPCs and townspeople that will occasionally have a rumor available, but they are quite easy to miss if you don't talk to _everybody_ after every dungeon. So, the best thing to do is to talk to everybody in Sumaru every time something changes in the story or you complete a dungeon. There is one stipulation on the rumormongers. They will only provide you with their rumor (if they have one, that is) if you give them some fresh information (read: you must have a rumor to tell them). This shouldn't cause any problems if you collect a fair amount of rumors, but it is possible for a rumormonger to refuse to give you a rumor they have simply because you don't have a fresh one. The only way (I have found, at least) this will happen is if you collect rumors, but don't spread them at Kuzunoha. So spread a rumor as soon as you get it. (For the most part...see below about random and variable rumors.) You will know that you have a rumor when you see red text in the dialogue a person is saying. Anyway, once you have a rumor, head over to Kuzunoha in Aoba Ward. You ought to know how this works, as it is required in the game to spread a rumor early on. Talk to Chief Todoroki by the desk and you will open a store menu. Choose to "Spread Rumor" and you will see a list of all rumors you have spread and rumors that you have heard. Choose the rumor you want from the list (you can use the Triangle button to get more details on a rumor if you can't find the one you want) and select it. There is a fee for almost all of the rumors in the game, but it is not that much; usually 3,000 yen. Once you have spread a rumor, the effect is immediate. You can go to the area that was affected by the rumor and you should find that something is different (usually positive). There are several different types of rumors. The differences between each is explained below. ---Types of Rumors------------------- Normal : Operates normally. Pay for rumor and the effect happens. Story : Rumor is automatically used or must be used to proceed with the story. Variable : Must choose between two or three possible outcomes for same rumor. Only one outcome may be implemented per game. There will be up to three different rumors for each variable rumor category (i.e. Battle Master Sweepstake) each of which is obtained from different sources. Random : A random outcome of the rumor is selected (you have no control as to the outcome). If a certain outcome is desired, use a save game to keep trying until desired outcome is reached. Route-Specific : Only available during Nate's or Ellen's route and cannot be accessed from the other's route. ---Magazine Sweepstakes-------------- Once you spread rumors about the magazine contests, you will be able to send in magazines (or I guess you're sending some part of the mag to prove you bought it) to the publisher and they will hold random drawings for prizes. The more magazines you send the better, but it is entirely possible to win by sending in only one mag. To send in a magazine, first buy one from any of your rocal phramacy stores (there's one in every ward). Take your mag to Kuzunoha and talk to Tamaki. Talk to her and she will give you the option of sending in mags (as well as describing how magazines work and how to pick up prizes). After giving her your entry/entries, you will receive a package at Kismet soon, but not immediately. You need to go to a dungeon first. I'm still not sure, but I think that the time it takes to get a response at Kismet is based on the number of steps you take in a dungeon; walking in stores doesn't count. Anyway, after a little while, there will be a package by Maya's desk in Kismet. You will either receive a letter saying that you did not win or you will get one of the prizes for whatever rumor you chose for the magazines. You will receive a single package for each time you submit entries. You may submit another entry for a different magazine, even if you didn't the first time, but so long as the package has not yet arrived at Kismet. You may also choose not to send a certain type of magazine (say, you can send Battle Master and Fantasy World, but opt not to send to Miracle). =============================================================================== II. Demon Rumors =============================================================================== Demon rumors work slightly different than normal rumors you use at Kuzunoha. First of all, you gain the information via asking a demon for info in the contract menu. Then the MAY give you a Demon Rumor; they are few and far between. The purposes of Demon Rumors are different also, as is explained below: ===TYPES OF RUMORS=================== Informative : This type of rumor simply informs of the existence of something. It does not actually do anything and it is usually very cryptic. Dungeon Puzzle : This type of rumor activates a new option in the contract menu of a certain demon (who is mentioned in the rumor) in order to solve some puzzle. Rumor Spells : This type of rumor first activates a new spell on certain personae and demons. After the spell is activated, you can also gain rumors about the spell being strong, weak, or that it fusions with another spell (Summon Spirit). Legendary Weapons : This type of rumor alters the nature of the Legendary Weapons. After the initial rumor (the weapon has a dark power) you can also get that it is the strongest (or you can change it to it's original format). Also, you should note that the text can change depending on which demon you get the info from (there are small changes to the tone of the rumor, based on the demon's personality). _______________________________________________________________________________ ===Shrine Rumor================ Type : Informative From : Any demon in Mifune Trail Text : Somewhere in here is a "Shrine of Warrior." Another point of interest in Kuzunoha is the Lucky Cat statue. Basically, if
you give the statue 100,000 yen, the door in the back of the office will open
and you will meet Demon Rumormonger Nekomata who has four rumors for you. She
asks you for 1,000 yen each time, but Tatsuya says at one point in the office
that on the "Other Side"  (Innocent Sin) the statue only asked for 100 yen.
Greedy little...  Anyway, if you used an Innocent Sin save file to start your
Eternal Punishment game, the money you had accumulated in the Lucky Cat would
transfer over. Obviously, this can only be done with the Japanese version of
the game.

_______________________________________________________________________________

The final extra packed into this single office is that after the Sky Museum
dungeon, the glass door to the bookshelf behind Chief Todoroki will slide over
and reveal the Item/Sumaru Magazine. If you go to the Item menu and select it,
it will give you a rumor concerning a Secret CD at the Seedy CD (and the
magazine will disappear from your inventory).
