[Introduction] Welcome to the Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter EX -- EX Cancel FAQ! The PlayStation version of the arcade hit, though it doesn't have tag-team, still kicks. The animation was not cut down too much, and you cannot notice it that much (with the possible exception of the larger characters). However, Capcom went out of their way and allowed players to have a Cross-Over Mode, which allowed limited tag-team action, and Hero Battle, which pitted Marvel against Capcom characters. They also included EX Cancels -- the basis of this FAQ. EX Cancels are when you chain more than one Hyper Combos together. They are possible with some of the characters, but not all of them can (though quite a few can). I know that EGM Editors especially hate this feature in Capcom's PlayStation ports of Vs games, but I think they add a new dimension to the game. This FAQ will discuss EX Cancels for the characters that can perform them effectively. [Contents] I. Building up your Hyper Combo Gauge II. How to Read this Faq III. Characters A. Ryu B. Ken C. Credits ######################################### ## BUILDING UP YOUR HYPER COMBO GAUGE ## ######################################### There are a number of effective ways to build up your Hyper Combo Gauge for EX Cancels. The first of them is quite simple-performing constant basic moves to gain your power up. Though this can be effective sometimes, it tends to wear its effectiveness when players start to play the clock against you and pummel you down with their own attacks. The second of the two is the worst possibly-performing Special Moves. These do not give you much Hyper Combo Gauge at all, and as a result, most Special Moves are too slow to build up your Hyper Combo Gauge. The third (and the best) is Super Jumping into the air, then performing constant Fierce punches. This is a relatively safe place, and you will build tons of energy up here. Another one that you can do is by performing tons of air combos. This works pretty well, too. Can you think of other ways to build up Hyper Combo Gauge? If you can, please e-mail me! If I decide to place it in my FAQ, you will get credit. ########################## ## HOW TO READ THIS FAQ ## ########################## -The particular EX Cancel Command Explanation-The explanation of how the logic goes behind it. Note: Unless otherwise specified, all EX Cancels can be done anywhere on the screen. If it can't be, however, the Explanation tells exactly where it can be performed. ################ ## CHARACTERS ## ################ Here is where the meat of the Faq is-the Characters section! If you can find EX Cancels for any characters I did not list, by all means please e-mail me! If I decide it is a legitimate EX Cancel I'd want in my Faq, then you'll get credit for your submission. ////////// // RYU // //////// Shinkuu Hadouken -> Shin Shoryuken Explanation: You must have your opponent in the corner, and at least two levels of your Hyper Combo Gauge charged up. Then, perform the Shinku Hadouken, then, while you are still performing it, keep trying to perform the Shin Shoryuken. (However, I use a joystick, which may be why I sometimes have trouble). Shinkuu Hadouken -> Shinkuu Tastumaki Senpuukyaku Explanation: Again, you must have your opponent still in the corner. Perform the Shinkuu Hadouken, then, as soon as it is over, the Shinkuu Tastumaki Senpuukyaku should immediately occur. Your opponent should still be in the `hurt-in-air' animation when it starts. Shinkuu Hadouken -> Shinkuu Tastumaki Senpuukyaku -> Mid-Air Shinkuu Hadouken Explanation: The timing is really tough on this, plus you should note that you can cancel the Shinkuu Hadouken into the Shinkuu Tastumaki Senpuukyaku outside of a corner, but only in the first three hits of the Hadouken or so. You'll get around 30+ hits. Its also possible to link his Shin Shoryuuken instead of the Shinkuu Hadouken, and you don't need to be in the corner for that one. ////////// // KEN // //////// Shippu Jinrai Kyaku -> Shoryuureppa -> Shinryuu Ken Explanation: This is a simple, but excellent EX Cancel. First off, anywhere are the screen, perform the Shippu Jinrai Kyaku. While you are still on the ground, QUICKLY perform your Shoryuureppa. Finally, after Ken does his Dragon Punches 2 times rotating, QUICKLY perform the Shinryuu Ken. Stylish! Shippu Jinrai Kyaku -> Shinryuu Ken Explanation: This one, again, is quite simple. While your character is still on the ground performing your Shippu Jinrai Kyaku, perform your Shinryuu Ken. ////////// // DAN // //////// Hisshou Buraiken -> Kouryurekka Explanation: While your character is still on the ground performing the Hisshou Buraiken, perform Kouryurekka. Shinkuu Gadouken -> Hisshou Buraiken Explanation: While the Shinkuu Gadouken is still hitting, perform the Hisshou Buraiken. Easy! Kouryurekka -> Hisshou Buraiken Explanation: This cancel is possible, but it is still sorta hard. Just perform your Kouryurekka, and then quickly perform the Hisshou Buraiken when your character is still on the ground. Shinkuu Gadouken -> Hisshou Buraiken Explanation: While the Shinkuu Gadouken is still hitting, just perform your Hisshou Buraiken. Chouhatsu Denjetsu -> Shinkuu Gadouken Explanation: Perform the Chouhatsu Denjetsu (Super Taunt). When you are still on the ground and your opponent walks up to you, just perform the Shinkuu Gadouken. Chouhatsu Denjetsu -> Kouryurekka Explanation: Perform the Chouhatsu Denjetsu (Super Taunt). When you are still on the ground and your opponent is near, perform the Kouryurekka. Chouhatsu Denjetsu -> Hisshou Buraiken Explanation: Perform the Chouhatsu Denjetsu (Super Taunt). When you are still on the ground and your opponent is near (close), perform the Hisshou Buraiken and EX Cancel your way to heaven! ///////////// // SAKURA // /////////// Midare Zakura -> Haru Ichiban Explanation: Sorry about the mistake! Just perform the Midare Zakura, then perform the Haru Ichiban when your opponent is still getting hit. Shinkuu Hadouken -> Haru Ichiban Explanation: This is yet another stylish one. As soon as your Shinkuu Hadouken ends, just perform your Haru Ichiban. The Haru Ichiban should hit just about when the opponent is still in `hit-in-air' freezing animation. ////////////// // CHUN-LI // //////////// Senretsukyaku -> Hazan Tenshoukyaku Explanation: As Chun-Li is performing her fast kicks and is gliding horizontially on the ground, perform the Hazan Tenshoukyaku before it ends. It is her best combo. Kikkoshou -> Senretsukyaku -> Hazan Tenshoukyaku Explanation: n/a Kikkoushou -> Hazan Tenshoukyaku Explanation: n/a ////////////////////// // CAPTAIN AMERICA // //////////////////// Hyper Charging Star -> Final Justice Explanation: Hit on the Final Justice just about when Hyper Charging Star ends. You should be in the corner, though I have done it before without having my opponent in the corner. Hyper Charging Star -> Hyper Stars and Stripes -> Final Justice Explanation: Timing is important. You gotta know the Charging Star so you can know when to start the Stars & Stripes. Before you take off for the Hyper Stars and Stripes, do the Final Justice. //////////////// // WOLVERINE // ////////////// Berserker Barrage X -> Fatal Claw Explanation: The Berserker Barrage X hits, then perform the Fatal Claw. Actually, if you are really having trouble with this one, just tell me, and I'll update this Faq will a more elaborate explanation. Weapon X -> Berserker Barrage X Explanation: Wolverine cuts away with Weapon X, then before it ends, perform your Berserker Barrage X. Berserker Barrage X -> Weapon X Explanation: n/a Berserker Barrage X -> Weapon X -> Fatal Claw Explanation: The tricky part is to do the Fatal Claw before the last hit of the Weapon X, if it works, it's really cool and well, slice and dice. Weapon X -> Berserker Barrage X -> Fatal Claw Explanation: On the Weapon X into Fatal Claw, did you know that you can cancel the Weapon X into the Fatal Claw in mid-air at the VERY last second (after the big X slash), and it's very hard to time, yet possible. You can't do it with the Berserker Barrage X though, since it won't work in the air. //////////////// // OMEGA-RED // ////////////// Omega Destroyer -> Omega Destroyer -> Omega Destroyer Explanation: Though Capcom always says you can't EX Cancel one Hyper Combo into another, apparently, Omega-Red can! You must perform them quickly consecutively, so your opponent won't be able to block. Carbonadium Smasher -> Carbonadium Smasher -> Carbonadium Smasher Explanation: Again, just hit your opponent when he's in the air with the Carbonadium Smasher, and repeat three times quickly! ////////////////////////// // BLACKHEART/MEPHISTO // //////////////////////// Judgement Day -> Heart of Darkness Explanation: Wow! I never thought a big character like Blackheart could ever do combos, but he sure can do EX Cancels! Perform Judgement Day, then chain Heart of Darkness. Armageddon -> Judgement Day -> Heart of Darkness Explanation: Perform this in the corner. When the person is at the right height, perform Judgement Day, then Heart of Darkness. ////////////////// // SHADOW/NASH // //////////////// Cross Fire Blitz -> Shadow Flash Kick Explanation: When the Cross Fire Blitz is hitting, just prepare to launch the Shadow Flash Kick just before Cross Fire Blitz ends. Cross Fire Blitz -> Shadow Break -> Shadow Flash Kick Explanation: Yeah! One of my favorite EX Cancels of all time. Perform his Cross Fire Blitz, then hit the Shadow Break Hyper Combo. When you're starting to pummel down your opponent with Sonic Booms, quickly perform the Shadow Flash Kick. . . . tight! ////////////////// // GOUKI/AKUMA // //////////////// Messatu Gou Shoryu -> Shun Goku Satsu Explanation: The beauty of this one is as long as they are on the ground the will get hit by the Raging Demon. If they block the Super Dragon Punch they are still in their block animation and cannot get free in time. If they don't block, well then they get extra damage. ////////////// // CYCLOPS // //////////// Optic Blast -> Control Beam Explanation: n/a ############### ## EX ACCESS ## ############### ///////////////////////////// // HIDDEN CHARACTER CODES // /////////////////////////// Highlight Hulk while holding Select, then, press Jab+Fierce.
