Introduction --------------- Hello and welcome to the Shark! Shark! FAQ, which will give you information on how to play the game, scoring and some hints and tips. I hope this FAQ will help you out some (as that is it's propose) and that you enjoy this fun game. Note that I'm writing this guide based on the version in Intellivision Lives for this PlayStation 2, and as far as I can tell there aren't any differences. ------------------- 3. General Gameplay ------------------- Controls -------- Wheel - Move fish Any button - Dash Options ------- At the start up screen, press one of the following to select the corresponding game speed - [3] = Very Slow [2] = Slow [1] = Medium Slow Direction = Normal Quote ----- This is the general sum-up of this game, which is taken straight from the manual - "Terror reigns under the ocean surface. It's a heavy traffic of sharks, nasty fish, seahorses, crabs, lobsters and jelly fish. They swim fast, jerk up and down, lurk behind plants or slide under coral reefs. They have weird shapes, striking colours, tiny or big sizes and very mean intentions. They eat or kill each other at first sight!" Basics ------ The aim of the game is to get your fish to grow larger by eating other fish that are smaller than you, and also biting sharks' tails. You will get points for doing thing every 1000 points your fish increases in size. There are a total of 5 sizes, and once you reach size 5 for every 1000 points you get an extra life (you start off with 5 lives). If you die (hit a shark or touch a fish of a bigger size) then you return to size 1 and a life is taken away. However your points remain the same, which you can use to continue to the next size. So for example on your first life you have 900 points and you die, on your second life you just need 100 points to grow to the next size. This is a pretty good factor that means your left over points aren't wasted. The maximum amount of points you can achieve is 9,999,950 and maximum lives is 255. You can also have a two player mode, where player 1 is the yellow fish and player 2 is the red fish. The aim is the same as in 1 player mode, apart from that you can also eat the other player (as long as they are of a smaller mass, otherwise nothing happens). Points Breakdown ---------------- This is a breakdown of the points you get for the different fish and fish sizes. Sharks Tail - Size 1 - 150 Size 2 - 200 Size 3 - 250 Size 4 - 300 Size 5 - 350 Tiny Fish - 100 Small Fish - 150 Medium Fish - 250 Large Fish - 350 Seahorse - 250 ----------------- 4. Hints and Tips ----------------- - Remember to only go after fish that are smaller or are the same size as you. Note that you can never eat sharks (whole), jelly fish, crabs, lobsters and massive fish (these usually make a noise as they come onto the screen). - Seahorses (green wiggles) can be eaten from size 3 onward. - Use dash a lot, to make sure you get away from advancing fish and to also get smaller fish. - Sharks are a great way to gain loads of points as you can nibble their tales over and over. Make sure that there are not other fish near by and nibble their tail, go over to the other side (they flip over, remember) then nibble the tail quick, then over again etc. It takes from four to eight bites to kill a shark, and as far as I can tell you get a small bonus (150 bonus). - Stay away from the bottom, and especially the left and right sides as fish appear from there and can easily gobble you up. ------------------ 5.
