This old-school video game is surprisingly quite popular out there... maybe due to.... its "unique" style??? Some of the people seem to like it, but some people seem to be very disliking it. I dunno why I must write an FAQ out of this game inspite of my... somewhat...considered... lacking talking skill.... The gameplay inside this game is 100% in English although it's a Japanese only release, maybe that's why it's more popular than the average other games for this platform... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't be held responsible if this game may cause some misconduct towards the audience X_X !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Example: Find what: e. sharp x1 version ================================================================================ A. CONTROLS ================================================================================ This game only accepts keyboard, and you know that this game... in my opinion... is similar to typical old-school video games, is hard as hell, so you may need digital and analog gamepad to get this game's ending. Act 1: [4] key: to accelerate your run. [8] key: to jump. [6] key: to slow down. [Spacebar] key: to bomb. A specific distance with the girl is needed if you press this key to undress her. Arrow keys: Up, Down, Left, Right are used for Act 2. The controls for Sharp X1 is more blurry for me due to my limited knowledge for the hardware. Sorry about that, but the sure thing is the Sharp X1 keyboard absolutely should be able to be used with about the same scheme with NEC PC88 version. ================================================================================ B. RULES ================================================================================ The game has two parts: a. For Act 1, you have to capture the girl. But firstly, you have to... take the four girl's clothings, which usually is done one by one. Hmm... a really bad way to do. X_X You can.. do the next act after... all four of her clothings are not with her anymore.... You have four lifes, your life is gone if you are exposed to some of the obstacles, or your score reaches zero. You will have an instant Game Over if the girl arrive successfully into her house. b. For Act 2, you can see the up-left part of the screen is some kind of... flower? You are considered successful if you can make... some kind of liquid drops to the bottom of the flower to the black part of the screen. NEC PC88 game in general will have more difficulty for this act than the Sharp X1 one. The "Game Over" for this act only takes you back to the previous act... not really a restart of the game. ================================================================================ C. GENERAL TIPS ================================================================================ People say that it's very difficult and I must agree. Act 2 will be more difficult for PC88 players. a. For Act 1, the success key could be very different between two versions: - I could say for PC88, you should wait for a big dog, a turtle, a blue squirrel, and/or a small dog or fire to run after her. And that above is also the rough order estimate from best to worst chance to get her. Your chance gets higher whenever she passes a turning sign, or you have destroyed more obstacles than the ones she jumps over, so that she runs closer. You should know that a sure-fire chance to do this "job" is whenever your position is minimum about the same with her, so that in the video game, the two sprites are overlapping onto each other. Then, you hold the [Spacebar] key. As she runs away from you, the distance will automatically set for the action. - For Sharp X1 players, the most notable difference is the animals that run to the left side now run much slower. So, you have no choice but to take the acceleration start position until the right-most part of the screen. You have to know that if you run faster, the girl will run faster too, and if you run slower, the girl will run slower followingly. Even without a fan, she will slowly run slower until the middle-right part of the screen if you slow down yourself until the rightmost part of the screen. I am not very sure but maybe the big score will also help to reduce her running and jump-running speed. You can't try to catch her as soon as possible like on PC88, so you don't have any choice but to build your score and when there is a good chance (note that in this platform, there'll be more possibility for two animals to run consecutively) like that in parentheses, you have more chance to catch up with her, and if your position is at the front enough, you can do this "job" twice, or maybe three times since the game runs slower on X1. b. For Act 2.... you can have better chance if the percentage numbers you see at the top of the screen is not average. If the percentage numbers are almost the same.... then... I can't say anything more than a "Good Luck". If things get difficult and you get tired, you may consider to change your button mashing to your two alternate controller types. x__X Phew.... I can't believe it... so much talk for "General Tips". ================================================================================ D. WALKTHROUGH ================================================================================ You can put the only floppy disk into drive 1, and press [Spacebar] key to get into the game. ---------- D01. Act 1 ---------- Why do I still call this a walkthrough.... it's only because the game consists of two consecutive acts. The "journey" inside Act 1 is schematic, so that it does not really need any walkthrough. This act only is a chase action outdoor, like a large prairie, which is... probably weird to you, that the girl's house is like... on the center of that large prairie. The notable things are only obstacles, trees, and tombstones. You can walk pass the trees, but you have to jump pass the obstacles and the graves, otherwise you will be stumbled, and your score will be decreased. The only sure-fire way to increase the score would be to bomb the obstacles. Your bomb is infinite in quantity, but have limited usability, you have to be used to estimate the bomb's reach zone before you bomb because you can only bomb once every some quite long time, but the screen will continuously run forward, in this case, to the left. Sometimes later, there will be more obstacles, and in order to successfully bomb all of them, all of the limited bombs fired have to be hit perfectly. I have once had my score increased miraculously although I tripped so many times, that might be considered a glitch, but I dunno for sure what'd be the trigger. So, you know that you are a man, and you are only chasing a girl. So, what makes this game becomes so difficult then? I notice that the girl's running speed is identical to you. Besides, the girl can't be tripped even if she runs into the obstacles (is she a ghost then? x_x), but of course she still jumps over any obstacle she sees... Whenever she jumps pass a motionless obstacle, it will be sure that the distance between you and the girl would be made further. Whenever you accelerate your run, the girl will, by a random short time, also accelerates her run. If you run faster than the screen "runs", you will be on the left-most of the screen, and the girl is too, but you can't get her because there will always be a distance between you and the girl until the fan comes out. The girl only will run slower by fan, when passing a turning sign, and when you successfully bomb an obstacle. The obstacles, plus anything that can be noticed in this game: (Note that I don't have any official names for them, so don't have any choice but to name them by myself). (Number). (Obstacle name) +(the score added when you successfully bomb it) -(the score deducted when you are tripped over) :: Some comment by me. 1. Blue stone. +10 -30 :: The very common obstacle. 2. Cutted tree +15 -30 :: Another very common obstacle. 3. Small Dog +10 -30 :: Runs to the left. One of the most common moving obstacles. 4. Turtle's shell +15 -30 :: This is a green one. This one is also common, but it only moves if you trip over it, like an angry turtle because it runs very fast for a turtle. You'll lose a life if you are being hit by the turtle. 5. Tombstone +20 -30 :: Every two tombstones you are leaping, it will throw a fire towards you (and the girl). Don't let the fire burn you, because it'll make you lose a life. You can only encounter tombstones around the graveyard. 6. Blue Squirrel +20 -30 :: If you trip over this one, it will produce some kind of gas. You "connect" this, and your life is gone by one. 7. Land Ghost +15 -30 :: If you see the soil is a little protruding, Don't run towards it. It only appears on outside area of the graveyard. 8. Fan +20 :: You can only see the fan if you are considered moving too far forward. The fan will suck you and the girl towards it. The bad news is you are affected a little bit more by the fan than the girl.... this is the proof that this man is actually not very strong.... >_> This fan can't trip you off. If you play X1, the fan power will get much stronger. Jumping continuously will help if you can't manage to bomb it. Multiple fans can appear if your position are considered too far forward for long time enough. 9. Big Dog +20 -30 :: If you trip over the big dog and it is not being "eaten" by the screen, the big dog will get angry and chase you. If you are caught, you will lose a life. If you manage to jump over this angry dog, you can use this golden moment to get the girl. The big dogs are usually seen on the way to the girl's home, on the middle path (there are up-middle-down paths). You can see the map below for more details about it. 10. Turn Sign :: You will see it after any crossroad. It seems that it's located very high up there in X1, but it is still reachable if you jump maximally and time your jump well enough. If you get the turn sign, the girl will *magically* run to the wrong way from home for the next crossroad. So, you know that the idea to make the girl slow down when running below the turn sign is wicked -_- The turn sign can't make the girl run to the starting point though. -- You shouldn't bomb the girl, or your score will be deducted by 15. ---------- D02. Act 2 ---------- After you complete Act 1 successfully, you will come to Act 2. I'm not very-berry sure about how to successfully pass this act. I think the way is: You see the percentage at the top of the screen, if you see the number is more, you should press the button/key more often, but since it's just percentage and the percentage won't pass 50, so you shouldn't hope so much, and you should know that if you keep pressing the same button/key for some time, the girl will scream. Three times of this, and the game will be over. The thing to do is to keep the Desire number above 300 for some time by pressing the correct key/button or maybe the correct sequence of keys/buttons during this act. I tell you that it will be a real -some- time to be passed to succeed. Pressing a button/key or a sequence of button/key that's considered wrong could lower your Desire figure/number. If you... perhaps does not do anything during this act, you will get "Power Lost" message. The Power number is like, the time limit. The 'Power' will decrease by one if you don't do anything, and decrease by two if you do something in this act. A Game Over will punish you with the 177th article, and you will be brought back to Act 1, but with more difficulty. The motionless obstacles are given more, and I noticed vaguely that the girl tends to keep more distance to you, but I might be wrong >_> I also notice that the stage set is the same for the second, third, and fourth of these kinds of Act 1. Let's mark these stage sets with 2,3, and 4. First try second act 1: 2 Second try second act 1: 4 Third try second act 1: 3 Fourth try second act 1: 2 First try third act 1: 3 Second try third act 1: 4 Third try third act 1: 2 Fourth try third act 1: 3 First try fourth act 1: 4 Second try fourth act 1: 3 Third try fourth act 1: 2 Fourth try fourth act 1: 4 I hope this is already 100% correct >_> The next Act 1s will be randomized among 2nd or 3rd or 4th Act 1. A Power Lost message will "punish" you with the 178th article. You will be brought back to the same previous Act 1, which is actually a quick restart of the game. The next and the last thing to tell is about the stages of this act. There are three of them total, and the game will determine which stage to give you by seeing where you *caught* the girl. I think I am also the one who has a feint of heart to write this >_> Next is the simple map of the prairie: ------------------------------------------------------------------ | | | 1 | | girl's---------------------------------------------start | | home -3-| | | | | \ 3| |1 | | |\ -3- | 2 | | | | \--------------------------------- | | | \ | | | | \ | | | | 2 \ 2 | | | ------------------------------------ | | | | | ------------------------------------------------------------------ The difference I can tell among them are just the maximum power you have at the start: 1 = 900 2 = 1000 3 = 1200 The big dogs will be sleeping on the paths that are marked -3- I only see two of them though. That's all about this game. Running naked around graveyards may inspire another more popular game for NES, a very popular old hardware: Ghost 'n Goblins. ================================================================================ E. SHARP X1 VERSION ================================================================================ And now the game runs notably slower. And above, I should have explained quite many things about this game version: Some key tips to pass Act 1, and now for Act 2, since the game runs slower, you should have easier time... at least in my opinion, just because the button mashing would be not as intense so that your hand does not get tired so fast -_^ The other difference is the stage set for Act 1 after the 177th article is always the same no matter how many times you are punished ^_^ ================================================================================ F. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ================================================================================ The most common question I see is how to do the "dirty job" on Act 1, and that was hopefully answered at Section C. General Tips above. Someone asked me: Q: Does clearing ACT 2 with lower maximum power changes the endings? Isn't the game randomized in terms of difficulty? I know you said that getting the 177 act is a factor for that, but I had an instance were the difficulty was different each tme I started the game. A: As far as I know, any "maximum power" you get will give you the same ending if you have cleared Act2. As far as I know both for NEC PC88 and Sharp X1, the difficulty is the same everytime I start the game because the stage set is the same for Act1. ================================================================================ G.
