La-Mulana is an independently-developed Japanese platformer, with a very massive scale to it. It was developed by a group called Nigoro. The game was developed to counter the decreasing difficulty level of modern video games without sacrificing other elements. The combination of challenging combat and taxing puzzles has drawn thousands of fans to the game. If you are reading this, you are now one of them. This guide covers the American WiiWare release in 2012; it also covers the 2012 release for Windows, though there are some minor differences between the Windows and WiiWare release. It does not cover the original 2005 PC release, which is vastly different in many ways, nor does it cover the Japanese WiiWare release of 2011 in which many items and locations have different names. My first recommendation is: DO NOT use this walkthrough except as a last resort. This game is more fun when you explore it on your own. Go out and try to find some items and solve puzzles on your own; if after two hours you feel like you've made zero progress and need help, then that's what this is here for. The game itself is very non-linear. You can fight the Guardians and clear out the areas in almost any order. I just try to present them in the most logical fashion. You can, for example, complete Part XIII before Part IX. ============================================ TABLE OF CONTENTS Part I: Death Awaits the Powerless [SUR01] Part II: Thou Traipses On Holy Ground [GOG01] Part III: Thou Art Tiny [MAU01] Part IV: Jump into the Sun [SUN01] Part V: Axe Crazy [TOM01] Part VI: Open the Floodgates [SKY01] Part VII: What The Hell Is That Thing [ELL01] Part VIII: Thou Shall Reach the Underworld [TOM02] Part IX: The Fish Master [BAH01] Part X: Let the Light Burn Here (COE01) Part XI: Ice Is Slippery. Whip the chest and collect the coins, then get out of the water. The easiest way to do this is the jump over to the ledge on the right, then jump along the surface of the water to the left to get back to J-1. You will have lost most of your health, but with the coins from the chest you will save yourself a trip later on. Carefully make your way back to the village (G-4). Buy the Glyph Reader software (reader.exe) for 50 coins and a pack of five weights for 10 coins. Make sure to install the Glyph Reader in your software menu. Make your way back to H-3. This time, jump down to where the dais is. Walk past the dais for now to take the lower right exit to I-3. Jump over the Xelpud Statue and whip the wall to the right until it breaks, revealing the Death Village software (deathv.exe). You don't need to install this now. Head back to the upper left but this time go down the upper ladder to get into the middle part of F-2 Kill the skeleton and break the pot if you like, just be careful you don't hit the sacred box. The important thing here is to jump down into the spikes. These spikes are fake; the rest of the spikes in the game are very real, though. Once the illusion of the spikes is gone, place a weight on the dais here and climb back up to claim the Shuriken sub-weapon. Equip them if you wish, but do not overuse them on common enemies. Once you start falling through the trap door, press your direction to the left. If all goes well, you should fall into the alcove where you can open the chest and claim the coins inside. If you face left or right and attack, your whip will strike above you, allowing you to take out the 2nd skeleton without being attacked. The experience gained from both skeletons should be enough to refill your life bar. ®:Gate of Guidance E-4 Enemies: 3x Bat, 3x Skeleton Landmarks: Block Puzzle, Mechanical God Mural Push the lower-right block to the right, off the edge. Completing the puzzle will reveal a dais in the upper-right part of the room. If you have less than five weights, you should leave this for later. Placing a weight there reveals a ladder down to E-5 but there's nothing to be done there yet. Place a weight on the dais in the right side of the room and go right through the path it unlocks to reach the Gate of Guidance Shop. You can by a Guild software here, but I prefer to wait until later. If you are short on weights, you can buy some here. When you're done shopping, head left back into A-6. From where you are standing, there is an invisible bridge to the right. walk across it into C-3 and the ladder at the top of the screen. Take the ladder up; This will allow you to access the coin chests you opened earlier. They each contain 30 coins. However, it is a one-way ladder. You now have to warp back to the Grail Point and work your way back to B-3. Once you get back to B-3, cross the invisible bridge into C-3 again. This time, place a weight on the dais in C-3 to remove a wall and continue right across another invisible bridge. When you get to the right edge of C-3, JUMP to the right into D-3; this invisible bridge does not extend all the way across and if you try to keep walking you will fall down. Now that you're here, climb down the ladder and place a weight on the dais down there. The Shell Horn will sound. Warp back to a grail tablet to save. Make sure your health is full; if not, head back to the Surface and use the hot spring. Make your way to D-4 (the room with the Red Skeleton miniboss and Ancient Mayan Airship Mural. If you did not place a weight on the dais in E-4, take the middle path and do so now. Otherwise, take the bottom path from D-4 into E-4 and go down the ladder into E-5. Gate of Guidance E-5 - GUARDIAN ROOM Once you enter the room the ankh in the bottom of the room will glow and the music will change. If this does not happen, you missed a step. Go back and look again. Equip the Ankh Jewel subweapon and use it on the Ankh. **************************** * Guardian #1: Amphisbaena * **************************** One head will shoot fire at you, then after a delay the other one will. The fire is not very long, so you can dodge it. You can decide how to take the boss down. The easiest method is to attack either head with Shurikens from a distance and dodge the fire when it comes. A more dangerous method is to lure a head down towards you and hit it with your whip (or other main weapon) when it is not attacking, then run away quickly. Direct contact with a head does 16 damage, so this is risky. However, it is wise to conserve Shuriken this early in the game. The decision is yours. As the boss loses health, its attacks and movements will speed up. If you have a hard time with the boss, you can put it off until later. Defeating Amphisbaena does not unlock anything vital right now. Once Amphisbaena is defeated, Xelpud will email you. You should go back to the village to buy more weights and shuriken if necessary. You will need at least 20 shuriken for the next boss fight, but 30 or 40 is better. =================================== | Part III: Thou Art Tiny [MAU01] | =================================== _____________________________ / MAUSOLEUM OF THE GIANTS \ /-------------------------------\ |||||B-1¦C-1¦D-1||||||||||||||||| |-------------------------------| |A-2¦B-2¦C-2¦D-2||||||||||||||||| |------------- -----------------| |||||||||||||D-3¦E-3¦F-3¦G-3||||| |----------------- ------- -----| |||||||||||||||||E-4¦F-4¦G-4¦H-4| |----------------- -------------| |||||B-5¦C-5¦D-5¦E-5||||||||||||| |----------------- -------------| |||||||||||||||||E-6||||||||||||| \-------------------------------/ Once you have taken care of business on the Surface, warp back to the Gate of Guidance and make your way to A-5. The Ankh should appear; you can reach it now that Ji is kneeling (or if you've done some serious sequence breaking) Use your Ankh Jewel on the Ankh to reveal the guardian of this area: Sakit. ********************** * Guardian #2: Sakit * ********************** Sakit can be pretty tough, so you may want to put this off until later in the game. If you want to fight him now, it can be done. As soon as you land on the ground, run to the right and climb the ladder. Sakit has three attacks right now -Rocks will fall from the ceiling as a result of his footsteps -He can fire an energy ball from his right hand -He can shoot his left arm out as some sort of extendo-punch. The falling rocks are easy to dodge. Just stand on the middle platform on the right and they cannot hit you; you can also destroy them with the Whip. If he begins charging an energy ball, climb up to the top platform and jump; this will cause him to aim to high and the energy ball will soar over your head. The extension of his left arm is your chance to strike. Once his fist hits the ground, run up his arm until you are close enough to jump up and whip his face. DO NOT jump into his face... that will hurt. After whipping him a couple times, jump off to the right before his arm retracts (that will also hurt). Repeat this process a number of times until he changes to his second form. Once Sakit's face plate falls off, his attack will change, slightly. Instead of energy beams, he now shoots his right fist at you in a rocket punch. Just like with the energy beams, you can force him to shoot over his head by jumping high when he is aiming. He still extends his left arm out but he now has harmful flames coming out of his shoulder, making it hard to run up and whip him in the face. However, he is now vulnerable to Shurikens. Your best strategy is to stay on the top platform, jumping and shooting Shuriken into Sakit's face. It takes about 20 Shuriken to finish off his 2nd form and end the battle. Warp back to the Surface to talk to Xelpud and heal up. You should still have plenty of weights, but you will need to buy Shuriken. I recommend having around 40, but newer players may need as many as 80. ====================================== | Part IV: Jump into the Sun [SUN01] | ====================================== When you feel prepared, warp to the Gate of Guidance Grail Point at D-2. Drop down three levels to D-5 (where you found the Ankh Jewel). Go to the lower-right corner of the room and place a weight on the dais here. Drop back down to B-2 to see the platforms reveal themselves, then climb your way back out. You will be in C-1 next to a mine cart. Push the cart to the right until it falls down. Jump across the pit to the Grail Point to read it/SAVE. Climb down the ladder to get the map. To make the ladder reappear, just push the statue in this area all the way to the right. Note that if you did not purchase the Hermes Boots in the Mausoleum of the Giants Shop, you will not be able to climb up the sandy slopes in the Temple of the Sun. If you don't have them, warp back to the Mausoleum of the Giants and buy them. Once you have the map and the grail point, drop down into C-2. Push the cart to the right again. If you hit the face wall, you will be zapped. Once the pot is destroyed, the face will will disappear. Climb down the ladder on the right to reach a dais; place a weight here to remove the wall. Then step in the floor switch to open the sacred box. You will have to go back up the ladder and into C-2, then enter D-2 from the second level in order to reach the Knife. The Knife does more damage than the Whip and hits much faster; it can hit enemies beneath you without using Rolling Shuriken. Its range is shorter but I prefer it to the Whip for now, because it can destroy pots and enemies much faster. The Hedge and Mask enemies here are very annoying; they take two hits with the Whip and only one with the Knife. If you're not comfortable getting too close to your enemies, stick with the Whip. Anyway, once you grab the Knife, climb down the ladder to your right. Destroy the pots here and you can enter the Temple of the Sun Shop #1. Buy the TextTrax software (bunemon.exe) here; once it's running on your laptop, you will be able to save conversations and tablet contents for later reading. You can play around with the Grapple Claw for a bit if you want (press up while jumping into a wall to cling, then press the jump button to kick off, or release up to drop down). If you get knocked down, you'll have to backtrack a bit to return to this room (and waste weights doing it), so try not to mess up. Jump down to A-2 and prepare to smash some skeletons. ®:Temple of Moonlight A-2 Enemies: 4x Skulleton, 2x Skilleton Nothing you can really do about the Skilleton's projectiles. Jump across from where you entered B-2 to get to where the map is. Place a weight on the dais below the chest to walk to left immediately to avoid the spike trap. Collect the map and exit out the lower right of B-2, returning to C-2. There is a new dais in C-2 but you have to ignore it for now. It was created when you scanned the face in A-1. What you need to do now is jump down the pit here into C-3; do it from the right side of pit, jumping left so that you land on the top-left platform in C-3. If you miss the platform, you'll have to warp back to the Temple of the Sun and walk all the way back here. Once the area is clear, use the knife the break the skull holding the boulder in place at the top left of the room (it takes 8 hits). Jump to the right from there and use the Grapple Claw to cling to the vertical wall there. If you fail, the boulder will roll down onto you and you will die instantly. Once the boulder crushes the block on the bottom right, you will be able to drop down and claim the Axe. The Axe does 250% more damage than the Whip; it strikes above you and in front of you. The drawback is that it is very slow. Regardless, it should be your primary weapon for now; I still switch to the Knife to destroy pots and walls. That's all for the Temple of Moonlight for now. Warp back to the Surface and heal if need be. If you have over 150 coins, go ahead and buy the Waterproof Case and some extra Shuriken. If not, hold off until later. You can do many different things now. The Guardian of the Temple of Sun is awaiting us [SUN02]; you can start solving puzzles in the Spring in the Sky [SKY01] or you can explore the Inferno Cavern and acquire some important items there [INF01]. Exit the water to where the ladder is; instead of climbing up, walk left through a secret passage into B-9. Walk all the way left until you are stopped, then stab the wall until it shatter, revealing the chest with 30 coins inside. You don't have to do this next part yet, but you might as well. I recommend it. Head back down to B-10 and watch the water drain away. Drop down the hole and you'll find yourself in Temple of the Sun F-3. Head into the bottom doorway and enter the Chamber of Extinction. It's dark in here. Head down the ladder and to the right, killing the Naga there. Jump up and to the right from the tablet and you should see an emblem on a block. Jump up and strike it until the Shell Horn sounds, then head back to the left to return to the Temple of the Sun G-4. Striking the mirror opened up access to the center area of this room. Smash all the pots and collect all the goodies within, then place a weight on the dais that appears where the top-left pot was. This unlocks the chest and enables you to collect the Bronze Mirror. You can now access the Graveyard of the Giants [GRV01] if you want, but obtaining the best treasures there requires items you do not possess yet. You can also explore the Chamber of Extinction and potentially acquire a powerful sub-weapon and another Sacred Orb, but you'll mostly be stumbling around in the dark. You should warp back to the Surface and heal up/save. ========================================= | Part VII: What the Hell Is That Thing | ========================================= Warp off the Temple of the Sun C-1. Go into B-1 and then jump down to B-2. Either angle your jump or use the Grapple Claw so that you land on the platforms which appeared when the room was illuminated. If he goes to ground level, use your Rolling Shuriken to hit him. If you do not have the Axe yet, then your Shuriken and Rolling Shuriken are the way to go. Defeating Buer clears the path to the Inferno Cavern. Pass that up for now. Exit back into B-2 then turn back into A-2 again. Jump up to the platform in the upper-right part of the room and hit the ceiling above you with the Axe or Whip. It will break, revealing a ladder into A-1 (does not appear on in-game map). Return to the Surface to heal up and buy Shuriken if you are lacking. Make your way back to D-5. Drop down the hole in the bottom right to access D-6. ®:Temple of the Sun D-6 - GUARDIAN ROOM If the Ankh does not appear, then you forgot to push the mine cart down here. Backtrack and make sure to push it to the right wherever you encounter it. When you are prepared, use the Ankh Jewel on the Ankh to spawn a mine cart battle against *********************** * Guardian #3: Ellmac * *********************** So in the first area there were snake murals and you fight a big snake at the end. The second area with a giants' mausoleum and you fought a giant. Here, at the end of an Egyptian-themed era, you were probably expected some sort of Egyptian-themed boss like a mummy or something, right? Wrong. You get to fight a bloody dinosaur. As soon as you land on the mine cart track, move to the right. If Ellmac lands on you, it is instant death. The traditional theory with Ellmac is to keep your distance and fire Shuriken at his face; this works if you have 80 or more Shuriken. I find it to be bolder and more effective to use your main weapons as well. When the mine cart is at the bottom level, there is nothing you can do but try to dodge Ellmac's fireballs. The best tactic is the wait near the right edge of the screen but not all the way at the edge. When he starts shooting, jump towards the right and the fireballs should land harmlessly to the left of you. When the mine cart is at a middle level, you can jump up and fire shuriken at Ellmac. He is invulnerable when he closes his mouth to charge up his fireballs. When the track comes up to level parallel to Ellmac's head, move left to get close enough to hit with your Axe or Knife, then retreat for the right before Ellmac charges at you. The Axe has a better range and does more damage per strike, but the Knife can hit 2 or 3 times. It is up to you. When Ellmac's health gets low, he will move faster, meaning the mine cart will move faster and change altitude more frequently. Direct contact with Ellmac does 18 damage. Getting hit by a fireball does 8 damage; passing through the flame left by a fireball after it hits the track does 16 damage. Because Ellmac's damage output is rather high, you can put him off until later. However, you cannot access the bottom half of the Temple of Moonlight until you defeat him. After defeating Ellmac, you will land in a hazy area of the Twin Labyrinths with a countdown displayed on the screen. Use the Holy Grail to warp out of here before the countdown hits zero. If it reaches zero, you will die instantly. ====================================================== | Part VIII: Thou Shall Reach the Underworld [TOM02] | ====================================================== Head to the waterfall on the Surface (K-1) Now that you have the Scalesphere, the water will not harm you. Do not place a weight on the dais down here; it is a trap. Scan the dais with the Hand Scanner, though. This will add another dais back in C-2. You can use the Fairy Point here, as you may need a Healing Fairy here. A Weapon Fairy will only help you get zapped, so you should leave until she disappears. If you get an Item Fairy, you should warp back to the Surface to break point and grind for coins. At any rate, get back up to C-5 and take the elevator platform up to C-4. Temple of Moonlight C-4 Enemies: 2x Yowie Landmarks: Four Hands Scan the point where the four hands in the background converge to unlock another dais in C-2. Head to the elevator platform on the left and throw a Shuriken at the face on the top. Place a weight on the dais down there to access to right side of the room. Start climbing up and place a weight on the dais on the top platform of E-3. After a short delay, Anubis will appear. Quickly send a Rolling Shuriken his way and he will blink blue, indication that you cannot damage him. Warp back to the Temple of the Sun. Drop down two rooms and enter Mulbruk's Chamber. Keep entering and talking to her until she gives you the Book of the Dead item. This will enable you to hurt Anubis; it also makes you immune from the Anubians' life draining beam (but not Anubis's). Before heading back to fight Anubis, heal up at the Surface. You should have a decent amount of money saved up by now. Buy the Pistol at Surface Shop #2 while you're there. Return to confront Anubis. The first thing you want to do here is kill the Anubian and make your way to the bottom right of the room. This will force Anubis to do a back flip towards you; run under him and jump up to the top-left platform near the center of the room. Anubis will probably send his life-draining cloud toward you; lure the cloud toward you, then jump down and rush toward Anubis, who will not move while the cloud is active. Jump and strike Anubis in the head with the Axe a couple times, then retreat before the cloud reaches you. Once the cloud dissipates, stand on the top-left platform again until Anubis sends another cloud at you, and repeat the process. If you stay on the ground-level too long, Anubis will charge at you. It takes 10 hits from the Axe to kill Anubis, unlocking the chest containing the Serpent Staff. Warp back to the Surface. Equip the Serpent Staff and show it the Xelpud. The chest here is now unlocked (it has been since you flooded the Temple of the Sun). Open it and claim the Glove, which enables to push blocks faster. Take the elevator into D-5 up into D-4 and jump across to break the Birth Seal on the left. This creates a shop which does not sell anything useful, unless you were able to get a Key Fairy from the fairy point in D-5. Now it's time to enter the Inferno Cavern. This will spawn another block at the top of the room. -Push the block on the left to the right so that it falls off the platform it is on to land atop the block you just pushed onto the plate. -Push the newly-spawned block in the upper left towards the left so that it falls, then push it all the way to the left onto that plate. This will spawn a block on the right side of the room. -Push the new block all the way to the plate on the bottom left of the room, spawning a new block at the top right. -There are now two blocks next to each other on a top platform. Push the one on the left to the left off the top platform, then to the right off the next platform, then to the left off the next platform, then to the right onto the plate on the low-center platform. -Push the other block on the top platform to the left onto the plate there. -There is one last block on the right now. Push it left until it falls, then right until it falls again, then right onto the bottom-right plate. This reveals the Flare Gun. Grab it and return right to D-4. This time take the bottom right exit to E-4. ®:Inferno Cavern E-4 Enemies: 1x Skulleton, 2x Slime Landmarks: Inferno Cavern Shop Pots: 10 Rolling Shuriken (center) Destroy the pot in the upper left to reveal the shop. You don't need the Space Capster Software until later, and you'll need the money you have now for other things very soon, so leave it for now. If you're running low on weights, you can buy them here. When you're done, take the ladder down to E-5 ®:Inferno Cavern E-5 Enemies: 2x Flame Rat, Lava Balls Pots: 10 coins Watch out for the Lava Balls. There is also a trap door directly under the pot. Treasure: Additional Text Memory Software (bunplus.exe) The wall directly left of the ladder can be destroyed to reveal the bunplus.exe software. The safest way to do it is to climb the ladder and face left to attack the wall. If you are hit while on the ladder, you will fall straight down instead of being knocked into the lava (he wrote, seconds before being knocked into the lava). Once you get the software, climb up into F-4. ®:Inferno Cavern F-4 Enemies: 2x Flame Rat Landmarks: Inferno Cavern GRAIL POINT Climb up and read the Grail Tablet. Save if necessary. you can go to the Surface and heal then warp back here if need be. When you're ready, jump back down into F-5. When jumping down, make sure to angle left or right so you do not land in the lava. Head left from F-5 to G-5. ®:Inferno Cavern G-5 Treasure: Ice Cape There is a dais on a platform that is slightly in lava here. Jump in, place the weight and jump back out as fast as you can. This spawns a block at the top left platform. Push it to the right off the edge, then to the right again onto the plate to unlock the chest. Claim the Ice Cape, which reduces the damage you take from lava. No more panicked screaming when you fall into lava. Warp back to the Surface to heal, then return to Inferno Cavern D-2 (the room where a laser barrier was blocking a tablet). It may be easier to enter from the Temple of the Sun. Here is where you need the Grapple Claw. The idea is to grapple onto a wall, then kick off to the other side to avoid the flame jets. If you get hit, you will fall down to D-4, forcing you to climb back up to try again. If this is your first time, it will probably take several tries. The farther down you get, the faster the flame jets are. If you time it right, you can jump down the right side into D-3 without having to grapple so that you only have to grapple your way past the last two jets. If successful, you will arrive at the alcove on the left side of D-3. If the alcove is there, it's because you didn't break the Birth Seal. Head left from the alcove into C-3. ®:Inferno Cavern C-3 Enemies: 3x Skulleton Landmarks: Hidden NPC Chamber Pots: ??? (bottom) 10 coins (top) The blocks here are not part of any block puzzle; they're just in your way. You can push them around as necessary. If you push one into an enemy they will die instantly. One of the blocks has an NPC chamber hidden behind it. Head left into B-3. ®:Inferno Cavern B-3 Sub-Boss: Pazuzu Pots: ??? I hate Pazuzu. He is annoying. He makes rocks fall from the ceiling, then picks them up and throws them at you. You can dodge them, but it can be tough. Also, direct contact with Pazuzu hurts a lot. There are three common ways to fight Pazuzu. One is to use the Axe. There are times you can strike his head when he is on the left side of the screen or collecting a rock; this requires you to be in a precise position and hit the attack button at the precise time, and includes the risk of collision damage. You can try this, but it's hard. The second strategy is to buy a bunch of Shuriken and throw them at him from a distance. It can be effective, but it takes a lot of Shuriken. My preferred strategy is to use the Pistol. Ammunition is very expensive, but it is worth it in this case. There aren't many sub-bosses that are as annoying as Pazuzu. The last thing you want to do here is die or have to teleport out and re-do the shaft of flame jets. Four shots to the head with the Pistol will do him in; aim carefully, though. Once Pazuzu is dead, the path left to A-3 will open up. ®:Inferno Cavern A-3 Enemies: 2x Killer Rock, 1x Flame Rat Treasure: Chain Whip You may want to backtrack and save before attempting this. Get rid of the enemies first. When you place a weight on either dais here, the column to next to that dais will rise up toward the ceiling. You must ride that column to the top and jump off onto the platform at the top of the room before it crushes you into the ceiling. Placing a weight on the dais on the top platform will open the sacred box to reveal the Chain Whip. Carefully jump down to grab it. The Chain Whip is twice as powerful as your first whip and replaces it in the weapon list, but still less powerful than the Axe. Note that this puzzle will not reset if you leave the room. If you fall after reaching the top, you cannot get the Chain Whip. If you fail to get on the column as it rises, you cannot get the Chain Whip. You will have to reload your save or wait until much later in the game to reset the puzzle. Now that you the Ice Cape, you can get another hidden coin chest. Return to Inferno Cavern F-2. Allow the platform on the left to break and drop you into the lava. There is a portion of the left wall that you can break with weapons, allowing you to swim into E-2 and open a new coin chest there. Warp back to the Surface to heal up if you need it. Now we are ready to face Bahamut. Warp to the Spring in the Sky and make your way towards his Ankh room (C-2). When you get to D-5, try to spawn a Weapon Fairy; you can cheat the fairy spawning system by exiting and re-entering the room if you spawn an unwanted fairy. When you reach C-2, jump onto the boat and use the Ankh. Equip the Axe and Flare Gun; if you have a Weapon Fairy, her flares will help here. ************************ * Guardian #4: Bahamut * ************************ Bahamut has three attacks: -He will jump into the air next to you and fire water breath across the room. -He will breach the water and try to land on you. -He will pop his head out from a distance and shoot fireballs along the surface of the water toward you. Your best time to strike is when he is charging his water breath attack. Stay in the center of the room as best you can; when his waves send your boat into the air, hit him in the head with the axe, then dodge the water breath by standing right under his mouth. If you're too close when the wave pushes you up, you'll task collision damage (24 points). You can also use flares from here, but I recommend saving them (you'll need them). When Bahamut jumps out of the water towards you, dodge. You can use flares here, too (that's why I recommend the Weapon Fairy). The Axe is too slow to hit him without getting hit yourself, but you can score hits with the Whip here if you switch fast enough. When Bahamut does his fireball attack, you cannot hurt him. Just try to avoid the fireballs as best you can, because they do 24 damage with each hit. The Feather helps. With enough skill and a little luck, you should be able to take Bahamut down. If you get frustrated, you can put him off until later, after you've explored the Chamber of Extinction and Graveyard of the Giants. =========================================== | Part X: Let the Light Burn Here (COE01) | =========================================== After defeating Bahamut, the river will deposit you at Surface L-1 ®:Surface L-1 Enemies: 1x Condor From here, drop down two screens to L-3. ®:Surface L-3 Enemies: 1x Condor, 5x Bat (hidden) Treasure: Surface's Sacred Orb The boat has landed here. Standing on the right side of the boat facing right and double-jumping will allow you strike a vulnerable part of the wall with the Axe or Chain Whip. A few good hits will destroy the wall, revealing the chest containing a Sacred Orb. There is a way to get this before fighting Bahamut, but it's much harder and generally not necessary. Striking the bottom part of the wall to the right will reveal a horde of bats. Don't reveal a horde of bats. Head left to Surface K-3 ®:Surface K-3 Enemies: 1x Condor Enter/Exit: Tower of the Goddess (sealed for now) Try to climb the ladder without being hit by the Condor. Or kill the Condor before climbing the ladder; up to K-2. ®:Surface K-2 Enemies: 1x Condor Treasure: Mekuri Master software (mekuri.exe) Partway up the lower ladder, turn to the left and hit the wall (kill the Condor first). The wall will shatter revealing a tent. Climb up to the platform and move to the right edge. Jump straight up, then angle to the right around the platform and back left to land where the tent is. Enter the tent to receive the Mekuri Master software. You could have gotten this earlier (technically you can get it as soon as you have the Hermes Boots), but it's only worth it if you're really having a hard time with Bahamut and have its matching software. Warp back to Surface G-4, head to left to G-3 and the PC Shop. Buy the new Mobile Super X2 Laptop for 250 coins. If the Mobile Super X2 is not there, then you have not defeated all of the first four Guardians. I also recommend going to the shop in Temple of the Sun E-5 (where you got the Heatproof Case) to buy some extra ammo for the Flare Gun. You might need it where we're going next. Go back to Temple of the Sun G-4 and take the lower gate into the Chamber of Extinction. "but it's dark," you say. Yes it's dark, but now that you have the Flare Gun, you can light it and take a look around at this hellhole. _________________________________ / CHAMBER OF EXTINCTION \ /-----------------------------------\ |||||||||C-1¦D-1¦E-1¦F-1||||||||||||| |-----------------------------------| |A-2¦B-2|||||||||||||||||G-2¦H-2||||| |----- ----------------------- -----| |||||B-3¦C-3|||||||||||||||||H-3¦I-3| |--------- -------------------------| |||||||||C-4¦D-4¦E-4¦F-4||||||||||||| |----------------- --- -------------| ||||||||||||||||¦I-5|F-5¦G-5¦H-5¦I-5| \-----------------------------------/ ®:Chamber of Extinction A-2 Enemies: 2x Naga, 2x Bat Enter/Exit: Temple of the Sun Upon entering, climb down the ladder and walk right to the tablet. Break the left wall of the pool and jump onto the alcove created. JUMP to the left to fall down a bit and land in G-5 (if you fall straight down, you will have to start over). From where you are in G-5, move to the left a bit, then jump up and left. Jump to the left from here and continue left; you will fall down a bit. Walk to the left, dropping down until you cannot go any further left. Double-jump straight up then angle to the left to get back up high. You need to continue left, but there are two drops here which will force you to start over. Use Rolling Shurikens to find where they are, then jump over them to the left to reach F-5. Drop down to the left and walk to where the one-way door is. Before passing through it, jump up to break the Birth Seal (this opens the chest in F-4). You can walk back to the Grail Tablet or warp there now. Re-light the lantern above the Grail Point and catch the elevator platform up to F-4. Jump over to the chest to grab the Life Seal. On your way to the Feather earlier, you may have noticed a Life Seal in Surface D-3. Now is a good time to break that seal, revealing a coin chest containing 80 coins. Heal up, save and stock up on weights. Time to take on the Graveyard. ======================================================== | Part XI: Ice Is Slippery. It Can't Be Helped [GRV01] | ======================================================== Start by warping to the Grail Point in the Gate of Guidance D-2. One screen to the right in E-2 is the treasure chest that has taunted you since the beginning of the game. Now we can open it. Break the Life Seal in this room and the ceiling above will slowly pull up. Use the Flare Gun to light the three lamps revealed. Lighting the lamps unlocks the chest containing the Crucifix. With the Crucifix the Soul enemies can no longer harm you; they will explode when the get close to you. Make sure you have at least 360 coins and go to the Fairy Point in Spring in the Sky D-5. What you need to do now is activate the Fairy Point and determine what kind of fairy it is. We want a Key Fairy (four stars spinning in a counter-clockwise square). If the star pattern is anything else, jump back to C-5 before the animation completes, then return to D-5 and try again. Once you get the Key Fairy. Ride the elevator up to D-4 and jump off onto the platform to the left. The Key Fairy will fly over to the shop and cause an explosion. Once this happens, jump back over to the shop and enter it; its wares have changed. Buy the Guild (guild.exe) and Rose & Camellia (randc.exe) software. Running randc.exe and mekuri.exe at the same time will increase the damage dealt by your Axe and Knife. That will be a big help right now. Warp to the Mausoleum of the Giants E-3. Read it and save, then warp back to the Mausoleum of the Giants and re-enter the Graveyard through the backside door. (If you are playing the PC version, the secret passage to the Grail Point is beneath the dais, accessed via the right ladder from C-2.) When you get back to C-1, you can now safely place a weight on the top dais (FIRST MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT YOU HAVE READ THE GRAIL TABLET. NOT JUST SAVED, BUT READ IT USING THE HAND SCANNER). Once you place the weight, the block will drop down so you can walk across the top. Get to the upper right and destroy the wall to reveal a coin chest with 25 coins in it. Take the lower left exit from here into B-1. ®:Graveyard of the Giants B-1 Enemies: 1x Cailleach, 2x Di Jiang Enter/Exit: Sealed for now When you enter B-1, start stabbing the ground beneath your feet with the Knife. This will break the ground enabling you to reach B-2. ®:Graveyard of the Giants B-2 Enemies: 2x Toujin Pots: ??? (left) ??? (right) Treasure: Silver Shield sub-weapon Entering this room from above will reveal the Silver Shield. Grab it and equip it right away, it will become your best friend. It can block many projectiles, including the fireballs of the Toujin in this room. Place a weight on the dais at the bottom and walk into A-2. ®:Graveyard of the Giants A-2 Enemies: 3x Di Jiang Landmarks: Hot Spring Pots: 10 coins Be careful with the Di Jiang; they are slow and have no real attacks, but they take several hits to kill, deal 14 points of collision damage and are easy to bump into on the slippery ice. Jumping into the Hot Spring right away will reduce your life. You need to knock the ice platform right above it down with a weapon to cool it off. Then it becomes a healing Hot Spring; you can heal up here now. Take the ladder in the upper left corner up to A-1. ®:Graveyard of the Giants A-1 Enemies: 4x Keseran Landmarks: Graveyard of the Giants Shop Pots: ??? (left) ??? (right) Take the lower right path back to B-1; continue through to C-1, then climb the ladder to take the upper-left path back to B-1. Destroy the pot and the ice chunk holding the ice block up top in place. Once it drops down, push the block here to the left onto the plate. This will create a ladder to a new area but it seems sealed off for now... weird. Warp back to the Mausoleum of the Giants and re-enter the Graveyard of the Giants. Head right into D-3 and jump down. You will fall through D-4 and land in D-5. ®:Graveyard of the Giants D-5 Enemies: 3x Backside Bat Pots: 10 coins (right) Go down to D-6. ®:Graveyard of the Giants D-6 Enemies: 2x Keseran, 1x Cailleach Placing a weight on the dais in this room spawns a Toujin. You can never open the treasure chest. Go to the Giant in the lower left part of this room and hit it in the eye until the eye is destroyed. Take the upper left ladder to D-5, then exit left to C-5. ®:Graveyard of the Giants C-5 Enemies: 2x Di Jiang Landmarks: Block Puzzle The plate in the bottom right of this room is a decoy. If you stand on it for a few seconds, it will break. Push the block on the bottom platform off to the left; then push the block above it down to the left as well. Get up to the top of the room and push the block there down to the right. Follow it down, then push it to the left so that it disrupts the energy barrier. Place a weight on the dais and take the top-right path to D-5. Climb up the ladder here to D-4. ®:Graveyard of the Giants D-4 Enemies: 2x Soul Treasure: Gauntlet You will not be able to access the chest if you have not solved the block puzzle in C-5. Double jump as high up the left wall as you can, then grapple to it and kick off to the break the Life Seal, unlocking the chest. Double-jump and grapple again to get to the chest containing the Gauntlet. The Gauntlet makes you main weapon attacks faster. Place a weight on the dais at the bottom and head back down to D-5, then go two screens left to B-5. ®:Graveyard of the Giants B-5 Enemies: 3x Keseran Treasure: Future Development Company software (mirai.exe) Pots: 10 coins Be careful not to strike the ice block around the treasure chest, or you will be hit with lightning. Double-jump from the giant's knee to reach the dais inside the center ice block. Place a weight here to open the chest, and pick up mirai.exe; running mirai.exe on your MSX2 allows you to warp to the grail tablets you've read in backside fields (Temple of Moonlight, Graveyard of Giants for now). Head through the gate to the left to enter a new area. =================================== | Part XII: Give Us Mercy [RUI01] | =================================== _________________________ / TOWER OF RUIN \ /---------------------------\ |||||||||||||||||E-1¦F-1¦G-1| |--------------------- -----| |||||||||||||D-2¦E-2¦F-2¦G-2| |------------- -------------| |A-3¦B-3¦C-3¦D-3||||||||||||| |------------- -------------| |||||||||C-4¦D-4¦E-4¦F-4||||| |------------- --- --- -----| |||||||||||||D-5¦E-5¦F-5¦G-5| |------------- -------------| |||||||||||||D-6||||||||||||| \---------------------------/ ®:Tower of Ruin G-5 Enemies: 1x Skilleton, Pots: ??? Go back to C-3 and the ceiling will lift up, revealing the hidden shop. You don't NEED to buy anything here now, just remember that it's here. Go back to the right into D-3. Break the middle block on the left and the top block on the right to unlock the chest containing the Ankh Jewel. If you break the wrong block, the floors will open up, potentially dropping you down to F-5. You will have to leave the Tower of Ruin to reset the puzzle. Once you have the Ankh Jewel, go left back to E-4. Jump down the shaft, angling to the left and you will pass through the hidden wall into wear that Skulleton is. Stand on top of the crusher here to place a weight on the dais. Then drop down, walk past the bottom crusher and drop down to E-5. ®:Tower of Ruin E-5 Enemies: 1x Skulleton, Lava Balls Pots: 10 coins (left) Treasure: Earth Spear subweapon You swam through here earlier. Placing the weight on the dais in E-4 unlocked the sacred box, allowing you to grab the Earth Spears. Earth Spears are thrown directly below you. Once you have them, take the ladder down and go back left to D-5. Stand above the gargoyle statue in D-5, throw Earth Spears at it to make it lower. Now you can push the column in the center of the room out of the way and climb down to E-6. ®:Tower of Ruin E-6 Enemies: 2x Slime, Lava Balls Enter/Exit: Inferno Cavern The Field Door in this room will only reveal itself if you have defeated
Bahamut and collected the Bronze Mirror. Enter the door and you will emerge in the Inferno Cavern D-5. ®:Inferno Cavern D-5 Enemies: 2x Slime Enter/Exit: Tower of Ruin You'll see a dais being lifted up in the background. Jump down and place a weight on the dais in the lava to the right; this will open a path to E-5. Start heading up towards D-2; in D-4 you will see that there is now a dais in the lava pit to the right. The only way to reach it is to drop down the lava in D-2 through D-3 to D-4. Do that and place the weight; this enables you to go fight Viy, the Guardian of the Inferno Cavern. Before doing this, absolutely go to the Surface and recover at the Hot Springs. Before fighting Viy, you may want to buy more Caltrops if you have the money to do so. The best place to buy them is in the Endless Corridor Shop, which is found by breaking the Origin Seal in C-1 (two screens to the right of the Grail Point. After healing up, warp back to Inferno Cavern F-4. Drop down a room then go left two screens to return to D-5. Now climb down the ladder D-6. ®:Inferno Cavern D-6 - GUARDIAN ROOM Enter: Chamber of Extinction (after Viy is defeated) Use the Ankh Jewel on the Ankh and Viy will appear. ******************** * Guardian #5: Viy * ******************** Viy won't do anything yet, though. I recommend equipping the Axe, Caltrops, and the randc/mekuri software combo. When you are ready, whack the tentacles (actually his eyelashes) with the Axe and the fight will begin in earnest. Pink demons will fly in from the corner to pry open Viy's eye. Once Viy's eye is open, he will either extend his eyestalk into the center of the room or fire his laser. While Viy's eye is open, the room will begin scrolling, so you will have to jump between platforms to keep up. If he extends his eyestalk, some fireballs will fountain out as well. You can destroy these with your weapon. After extending his eyestalk, Viy will fire a small laser at you; this does 24 damage. Touching Viy's skin will drain your health rapidly. There is no mercy invincibility or any way to counteract this. Try to not land on Viy's skin, and if you do, jump away as fast as you can. If his eye is extended and the center platforms are intact, You can hit him with the Axe. Viy's first attack is always and eyestalk extension. If you can get in 4 or 5 hits with the Axe now, you will be very close to killing him. If the platforms are destroyed when Viy's eyestalk extends, you can use Shurikens, Pistol or Chakram at it, or double-jump over it and throw an Earth Spear down into his eye. Being hit by Viy's eye laser will do 90 damage. It also destroys the pink demons, his eyelashes, your subweapons and part of the platforms in the center of the room. Do not get hit by Viy's eye laser. If the center platforms are intact, you can toss some Caltrops into Viy's eye then run away before the laser fires. Viy's tentacles will re-spawn after a while. You should retract them with the Axe as soon as possible. Even though the tentacles only do 1 damage, they can knock you into Viy's body, which is bad news. Another strategy involves jumping across the room once Viy's eye opens, before he fires his laser or extends his eyestalk, and throwing an Earth Spear into the eye. This is risky, as the pink demons can hit you and knock you into Viy's body. When Viy's health gets low, he will start angling his laser towards you diagonally. This can actually help you, as the platforms on the opposite side of the room will be more intact, making it easier to use Caltrops or the Axe. Viy will also chain his attacks when his health is low. He can fire up to three lasers in a row, or extend his eyestalk after the laser. He will also fire two small lasers when he extends his eyestalk instead of one. Eventually, you will win this battle. You might finish it quickly on your first try; or after two hours of constantly dying (like my first time through the game). Once Viy is vanquished, the only way out is down. This drops you into a new area of the Chamber of Extinction. You can't do anything here yet; warp out and save somewhere. ================================================== | Part XIII: Player-Conscious Developers [GOT01] | ================================================== Warp to the Spring in the Sky and return to the Fairy Point in D-5. Spawn a Key Fairy using the technique described in Part XI. Once you have the Key Fairy, warp to the Chamber of Extinction. Light the lantern among the Grail Tablet and go to the right into G-5. The Fairy will hover near the lantern here and soon reveal a path into a new area. Head on in! ®:Gate of Time D-11 Enemies: 2x MSX Tog Head This is the Gate of Time, a bonus area that reflects the appearance of the original La-Mulana, released in 2005. The graphics are intended to emulate those of the MSX computer gaming system which was more popular in Japan than it was in the United States. The tablets here are quite colorful. You can read them as you progress through here, for fun! You could have unlocked this area at any time once you gained access to the Chamber of Extinction and Fairy Points, but the benefits are scarce. None of the pots here drop treasure, there is no map or usable grail point. Also, you cannot walk through spikes here; approaching spikes from the side hurts you. Warp to the Spring in the Sky and return to the Fairy Point there. This time we want to spawn an Item Fairy; the Item Fairy animation is four stars: two of them in a counter-clockwise square, two in a clockwise circle. Soon as the fairy spawns, warp to the Chamber of Extinction. Climb up the ladder to the right of the Grail point. This will put you in E-4. Make your way to the top right of the room where the destructible blocks are. Destroy the blocks and collect the coins they yield; then go right into the top left corner of F-4; immediately turn back round into E-4. The blocks will have respawned; destroy them and collect the treasure again. The best weapon for this is the Axe. Repeat this until the fairy disappears. On this attempt, I started the process with 240 coins and had 623 when the fairy disappeared. Not bad, eh? It gets better later! ====================================================== | Part XIV: The Fool Will Never Find His Way [ILL01] | ====================================================== First, make sure you have a lot of weights. 30 is good; 40 is better. Make sure you have at least one Shuriken. Warp to the Temple if Moonlight; go right from the Grail Room to C-2. There should be four daises in the main part of the room now. If there are not, it's because you failed to scan one of the four landmarks involved in the Eden puzzle. They are the Face in A-1, the Michael Jackson mural in E-4, the place where the Four Hands meet in C-4 and the dais that triggers the Phenomenal Trap in C-6. If all four daises are there, place weights on them in this order: Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Right, Middle Right. If you do it in the wrong order, you will have to leave and return; if one of those damn bats knocks you down to C-3, you'll have to start over. Once all four weights are placed, the treasure chest will unlock. It contains the Fruit of Eden. Head to A-1. Kill all the bats in A-1. From the center bottom of the room, double-jump and cling to the wall on the right, across from the oddly-colored spikes. Quickly release the wall by turning left, and fire a shuriken into the spikes, landing on the platform below without falling into A-2. This reveals a coin chest containing 100 COINS. If you fall or get knocked into A-2, you'll have to work your way back here (wasting two weights in the process). Once this is done, climb the ladder out of this room and into Eden. ®:Eden A-1 Landmarks: Tree of Eden With the Fruit of Eden, a dais appears here that did not exist before. You'll have to drop down into the spikes here, so make sure you have enough health to survive that. Once you land, double-jump up, facing right and attack the wall there with the Knife as fast as you can. The wall should break, revealing a hidden coin chest containing 100 coins. If you already have over 900 coins, save this chest for later. You now have to drop back down to the bottom of this room and climb back up the long ladder. Make your way back to the tablet in E-5 again. This time, examine the lamp to the right of the tablet with the Hand Scanner; this unlocks a new path. Climb back down the ladder and walk to the right; you will drop straight down, but remain in E-5, landing at the tablet right above where you were. Climb up the ladder and head left into D-5. Climb up the ladder in D-5 and walk past the two open chests at the top of the room. This will open the treasure chest here. Great, right? Continue left into C-5. ®:Gate of Illusion C-5 Enemies: 2x Lizard Man, 3x Backside Bat Pots: ??? Enter/Exit: Graveyard of the Giants Lizard Men can be tough to deal with. Your Silver Shield will block their fireballs; an Axe blow in the right spot will stun them, allowing you to finish them off quickly. If you're too close, they'll hit you with their sword before you can stun them. Head left here and climb the ladder into C-4. Place a weight on the dais here and drop back down. There will now be a ladder allowing you to descend to a lower platform. Go down it and proceed right back into D-5. DO NOT open the chest in D-5. It is a trap and will explode, killing you instantly. So, be careful in here; I recommend using the Knife to kill the Kui, so you don't accidentally hit the chest from below. Anyway, walk right past the chest and down that ladder, then down the ladder immediately to the right. Place a weight on the dais and go left then up another ladder. Stab the wall here with the Knife to reveal the true chest containing the Gate of Illusion Map. Backtrack to C-5, take the ladder up to the top of the room and go right into D-5. Go down the ladder beneath the top-right chest, then turn left and walk into a TELEPORT WALL. You can identify teleport walls by looking very closely. There is a little bit of distortion on their teleport side. You're back in F-5 now. Go directly left back into E-5 and walk into another TELEPORT WALL. This puts you back at the top left of F-5; walk left into E-5 and destroy the four pots. Stand right where the leftmost pot (which dropped 1 Shuriken) was, and press down. You'll drop into a new space; walk right into a TELEPORT WALL. Walk right immediately after teleporting. You're now in F-5 again, on the right-hand side. ®:Gate of Illusion F-5 Enemies: 2x Kui, 3x Backside Bat Pots: ??? Yes, you have to leave the Gate of Illusion. Also, YES, you will have to repeat the Teleport Maze again! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Warp back to the Gate of Guidance. Go back to the room where you first entered the ruins (C-1). Jump up to the Olmec face and use the Pepper on it. It will spit out the Treasures. Might as well return to the Surface to heal. You then have to warp back to the Temple of Moonlight, then walk back A-1 to climb into the Gate of Illusion. Navigate the Teleport Maze again to reach the NPC Chamber. The NPC will give you an Anchor. This will left you drop down the pool of water on the right side of the room so you can reach the ladder down into F-5. Climb back up the ladder to the right and return into F-4. Jump left through a false wall to reach the dais, then jump back across to the right and fall down a pit to return to F-5. This will remove the barrier in F-5 and allow you to access the NPC Chamber here. This NPC will give you the Mini Doll usable item; more on that later. Walk through the TELEPORT WALL on the right and you'll end up back in F-6. Head down the ladder and place a weight on the skeleton here. Placing a weight on the dais opens a trap door that drops you down to the bottom of this room. Placing the weight on the skeleton removes the energy barrier. Go right through where the energy barrier was into G-6 and another TELEPORT WALL. You'll be in the lower-right corner of F-5. Drop down on the right (not left) into F-6 and proceed right into G-6. Here is the Six Dais Challenge. Place a weight on the leftmost dais, then place weights on the other five daises before the first one finishes descending. What did this accomplish? You've got to walk all the way back to find out... or do you? Warp out to the Surface to heal, if needed. ===================================================== | Part XV: The Illusions Will Only Continue [ILL02] | ===================================================== Warp to the Mausoleum of Giants. Buy the Lonely House Moving software (move.exe) for 300 coins. This is why we farmed an Item Fairy at the end of Part XIII. If you run lamulana.exe and move.exe at the same time, your Whips do more damage. Now, it's a choice whether you want to use the Axe or Chain Whip, as you have the software combinations to power up both. The Chain Whip is faster but the Axe is still a little stronger and has better range. I use the Axe because I'm used to it; you might be more used to the Chain Whip. Get onto the moving platform and drop down between the spikes to reach the bottom of the room. Don't access the Fairy Point now. You'll see why soon. At the bottom of the room (beneath the left spike), stab the ground with the Knife to break the floor and reveal a path down to A-4 (not shown on the in-game map). Don't go down there yet. Climb the ladder to the left. Push the lone block up here all the way to the right up against the other blocks. Then jump on top and push the top block off. Striking the blocks will get you zapped. Head right back into B-3. Place a weight on the dais here and the Shell Horn will sound. Return to A-3 and climb down the new ladder, then turn back into B-3. Go back through B-3 into C-3 on the uppermost path you can reach. There is now an opening in the top of the room, allowing you to jump up and reach the GRAIL POINT. Finally! GRAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIILLLLL POOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNT! Read it. Do not forget to read it. Read it again to be sure. Phew. Warp back to the Surface to heal up if you need to. Then warp to the Spring in the Sky and get to the Fairy Point. We need to spawn another Key Fairy. Once you spawn a Key Fairy, warp back to the Gate of Illusion C-3. Go two screens to the left to A-3; this time we want to drop down the hole we made to A-4. ®:Gate of Illusion A-4 Enemies: 4x Lizard Man, 1x Tog Head Pots: ??? (right) ??? (bottom left) Treasure: Fairy Clothes The Key Fairy will unlock the chest in here. Inside are the Fairy Clothes, which reduce the damage you receive from most enemies (but not most bosses). Back to the surface to heal, then warp back to the Gate of Illusion Grail Point! Go up the ladder from C-3 to C-2. ®:Gate of Illusion C-2 Enemies: 3x Backside Bat Pots: ??? Enter/Exit: Gate of Guidance Stand on the moving platform to reach the ladder. Climb up and enter the backside door to the Gate of Guidance. If the door does not open, it is because you have not defeated Amphisbaena. If this is the case, go back to the Gate of Guidance and do it. You should be able to wreck him now that you have the Axe. ®:Gate of Guidance A-3 Enemies: 3x Bat, 1x Antlion Pots: ??? (bottom) Treasure: Yagoo Map Street software (yagostr.exe) You could have entered the bottom half of this room before, but you would not be able to open the chest. Depress the floor switch on the top platform in this room. This will nullify the spike trap guarding the chest. Take the top right path to B-3 and climb down the ladder that forms. Now you can safely place a weight on the dais next to the chest to unlock it and pick up Yagoo Map Street software. Running this concurrently with yagomap.exe will display additional details on the map, including shops, NPC chambers, grail points, fairy points and the Cross of Light. Warp back to the Gate of Illusion C-3 and go back up into C-2, then take the top right path to D-2. ®:Gate of Illusion D-2 Enemies: 2x Asp Pots: ??? (lower left) 10 coins (lower right) Jump over the spikes to land on the edge of the platform without spikes. Walk left through the spikes until you drop through a trap door under the leftmost spike. Place a weight on the dais here. The spikes will disappear, a platform will appear in the center, and a gap to the right will appear, enabling you to drop down. Go left through the TELEPORT WALL to warp to the other side of the room. Go down the ladder here and go right to drop into the upper right corner of D-3. ®:Gate of Illusion D-3 Enemies: 2x Asp, 1x Kui Pots: 10 coins (bottom left) ??? (lower right) Enter/Exit: Tower of Ruin Break the seal here and climb the ladder which forms. Place a weight on the dais to close the sacrificial abyss. Go left back into C-3; drop down a level and return to D-3. Read the tablet here and approach the wall. It should disappear. If it does not disappear, then you did not show the Mini Doll to a giant. Warp to the Mausoleum of the Giants, use the Mini Doll in a room with a statue of the one of the giants in it, then return here. Take the ladder down then go through the one-way door. Climb down the ladder here into D-4. ®:Gate of Illusion D-4 Sub-Boss: Chi You Treasure: Key of Eternity Landmarks: NPC Chamber If you did not close the sacrificial abyss, Chi You will continually regain HP from the blood of the virgin sacrifices. Drop down to face Chi You. He can throw subweapons at you, including Shuriken and Rolling Shuriken. The Silver Shield will block these. You need to hit him in the face, but if you try, he will raise his shield to block you. You need to stun him then hit him while stunned. With the Axe and the randc/mekuri software combo, it takes two axe blows to his shield to stun him. Once he is stunned, jump and hit him in the face. Repeat the process once he recovers. It should not take long to kill him. Once you collect the experience and coins Chi You drops, run to the lower left corner of the room and wait. The mechanism above will drop down; if you are under it when it does, it is instant death. After it shatters, you can safely claim the Key of Eternity within the treasure box. A platform will appear giving you access to the upper-right ladder into D-3. Before leaving, break the wall to the right of the sacrificial pit to reveal a door. Enter it to be screamed at... thanks, La-Mulana. Climb up the ladder into D-3. There's a Field Gate here to the Tower of Ruin. Enter it. =============================================== | Part XVI: Endure the Endless Trials [END01] | =============================================== ®:Tower of Ruin A-3 Enemies: 2x Black Dog, 2x Slime Pots: ??? Place a weight on the dais right by where you enter and climb up the ladder. Wait until you can safely go under the crusher up top to access the main room. Destroy the bottom of the center column in here to make the column drop down and reveal a dais atop it. Place a weight on the dais to shatter parts of the right column and reveal the path to B-3. Do not take this path yet. Go to the upper right; destroy the pots there, then attack the upper-right wall until it opens up another path to B-3. ®:Tower of Ruin B-3 Enemies: 1x Black Dog, 2x Salamander Landmarks: Cross of Light, Nebra Statue Pots: ??? Now is a good time to buy the Snapshots software (torude.exe) in the Shop in C-3. Warp to the Temple of the Sun, then go two screens down and three screens to the right of the grail point to F-3. The statue that was here is now gone. Walk to the rubble to pick up the Talisman. Equip the Talisman and warp back to the Surface to talk to Xelpud about it. Buy some weights while you're here. If you did not pick up the Dragon Bone yet, now is a good time to do it. Warp to the Mausoleum of the Giants and enter the Twin Labyrinths from H-4. The ladder is one screen down the three to the right of the grail point. Once in the Labyrinth, take the ladder on the lower left. In the next room, take the ladder on the upper right, then immediately to back down that ladder. You'll be in a room with several Snout Leapers. Enter the shop here and purchase the Dragon Bone for 100 coins. You could have done this at any time but I waited until now because now... you have to. After buying the Lonely House Moving, the Dragon Bone and Snapshots, you might be low on coins. Go farm some more using an Item Fairy from Spring in the Sky and the grinding spot at the Chamber of the Extinction. This run took me from 247 coins to 722 coins. There are a couple paths you can take now. I figure that since we have the Key to Eternity, we should put it to use. Warp on back to the Endless Corridor A-1. Take the lower right path to B-1; equip the Key of Eternity and use it on the keyhole here, opening the path down to B-2. _________________ /ENDLESS CORRIDOR\ /-------------------\ ¦A-1¦B-1¦C-1¦D-1¦|||| |----- -------------| ||||¦B-2¦C-2¦D-2¦E-2¦ |------------- -----| ¦A-3¦B-3¦C-3¦D-3¦|||| |------------- -----| |||||B-4¦C-4¦D-4¦E-4| |--------- ---------| |A-5¦B-5¦C-5¦E-5||||| \-------------------/ ®:Endless Corridor B-2 Enemies: 2x Flower, 1x Bonnacon Pots: ??? It will spawn randomly as one of three types. -The large version moves slowly and fires a life-draining beam that cannot be blocked. Attack it from the rear, top or bottom to avoid the beam. -The middle version moves quicker but is immune to melee weapons. You will have to use subweapons to kill it. Caltrops and Chakram work good. Remember to catch Chakram after throwing them. -The smallest version moves fast and is immune the subweapons. Use the Knife or Axe to hit it. After clearing this room and collecting the Twin Statue, you can return to the Key of Eternity or double-jump through the false wall in the top right corner of the room to get to B-3. ®:Endless Corridor B-3 Enemies: 3x Flower, 1x Jiang Shi Landmarks: Cross of Light Pots: ??? Break the wall beneath the spike on the left side of the room to reveal the coin chest. Head back to D-3 so you can take the ladder down, but don't forget to re-enter C-3 to get the Chakram out of the pot on the top right. In D-3, take the ladder down to D-4. ®:Endless Corridor D-4 Enemies: 1x Backside Bat, 1x Rong Xuanwang Running move.exe and deathv.exe at the same time will extend the mercy invincibility period after you get hit. That's a good idea on this floor. Head left into C-4. ®:Endless Corridor C-4 Enemies: 1x Jiang Shi, 2x Flower Meet the giant buzzsaws. The best path here is to immediately drop down to the left and walk into the spike near where the Jiang Shi was. The saws will not hit you inside the spikes. Wait inside the spikes until the saws on the left retract, then double jump up to the exit into B-4. ®:Endless Corridor B-4 Enemies: 1x Jiang Shi, 1x Backside Bat, 1x Skulleton Once again, run past the first saw and hide within the spikes. Then double-jump up to the left when the saws on the left retract. Climb down the ladder to the lower left corner and make your way right past the bottom saws. You will be safe if you kill the Flower and stand where it was, then wait until you can run right into C-4. Kill the flowers here with Chakram or Shuriken. The safe spots here are where the Flower on the left was, and in where there is a blue wall in the background. Head right to D-4. Avoid the saws here. The safest spot is between the two saws on the block with the ying-yang symbol on it. Jump up to the platform and head right into E-4. ®:Endless Corridor E-4 Enemies: 3x Backside Bat Touching the bottom floor here warps you back to B-4. That would be bad. Try to kill the bats from where you stand, then jump onto the moving platform. Double-jump over to the right and land right next to the ladder. Climb up the ladder and begin walking through the spikes to the left. Blocks will try to push you up into the spikes above; you can tell where these blocks are by the structure beneath this platform. Time your path as you walk to the left, back to D-4 to place a weight on the dais. This makes the keyhole appear in C-4. Backtrack to C-4, use the Key of Eternity and take the ladder down to C-5. ®:Endless Corridor C-5 Enemies: 1x Jiang Shi Pots: ??? (left) ??? (right) DO NOT read the tablet yet. When you feel confident, head to the top-right to reach B-5. ®:Endless Corridor B-5 Enemies: 1x Bat, 3x Backside Bat Sub-Boss: Tai Shan Pots: ??? (top) 10 coins (lower) Kill the bats here. You cannot hurt Tai Shan yet. Make your way back to C-5. Now you should read the tablet here. Reading the tablet spawns the Backbear Sub-Boss, who is immune to your attacks for now. Facing towards him makes him close his eye and go idle. Turning your back to him makes him chase you. You have to go as fast as you can from B-5 back to C-5. This is why you killed all the enemies first. When you reach B-5, a dais will appear to the right of Tai Shan. Place a weight here, then run all the way back to C-5. A new dais will appear here. Placing a weight on this one will make Blackbeard vulnerable. Lure him close to you, then turn around the hit him with the Axe or Chain Whip before he closes his eye. Repeat this tactic until he dies. Once Backbeard is dead, you can go back to B-5 and kill Tai Shan; just hit it with the Axe until it dies. It's not a real threat. Its attack does 1 damage. Once Tai Shan is gone, the ladder down to the Shrine of the Mother will open; you could go down there. But after dealing with the Endless Corridor, you don't want to risk dying and losing your progress. Warp back to the Surface to heal. Make sure to save somewhere. You'll have to navigate the buzzsaws in the Endless Corridor again, but trust me. I know from experience that dying in the Shrine of the Mother after going through the Endless Corridor without saving is an infuriating affair. ======================================== | Part XVII: Release the Twins [TWI01] | ======================================== With the Twin Statue, you can now dissolve the curse on the Twin Labyrinths and explore the area completely. Warp to the Temple of the Sun and go back to where you fought Ellmac. Drop down the pit here into the Twin Labyrinths. Quickly drop down to the left, climb down the ladder the drop down to the right. Walk left and enter the Twin Gate (these don't work without the Twin Statue). In this new room, jump up the platform, jump over to the ladder (there are trap doors on the platforms), then jump up to the left, and go to place a weight on the dais to the right. Head back down to the Twin Gate (using the trap door makes it faster) and go back to the previous room. A dais appears in the top left of the room; get up there fast and place a weight before the timer reaches zero. Placing this weight removes the poison gas; no more countdowns and no more barriers. You can now explore the Twin Labyrinths. You are in D-1 of this hellhole. _____________________________________ / TWIN LABYRINTHS \ /---------------------------------------\ |||||B-1¦C-1¦D-1¦E-1¦F-1¦G-1¦H-1¦I-1|F-1| ---------- --- ----------- --- --- ---^-| |A-2¦B-2¦C-2¦D-2|||||||||G-2¦H-2¦I-2¦J-2| |- ------------------------------- --- -| |A-3|B-3¦C-3¦D-3|||||||||G-3¦H-3¦I-3|J-3| |- --- --------------------------- --- -| |A-4¦B-4¦C-4¦D-4|||||||||G-4¦H-4¦I-4¦J-4| |----- --- ---'-----------'--- --- ------ |||||B-5¦C-5¦D-5¦E-5¦F-5¦G-5¦H-5¦I-5||||| \---------------------------------------/ ®:Twin Labyrinths D-1 Enemies: 3x Leucrotta Landmarks: Statue of the Hero and Twins Pots: 10 Shuriken Enter/Exit: Twin Gate to G-1 Climb down the ladder on the right into D-2. ®:Twin Labyrinths D-2 Enemies: 3x Zao Chi, 1x Witch Pots: 10 coins (top left) ??? You'll emerge in the Spring in the Sky. Drop down a screen where you will see some sort of seal at the bottom. Break this seal with a weapon to reveal a drain. Warp to the Spring in the Sky and make your way down to B-10 (where you flooded the Temple of the Sun). Walk right through a false wall to the right of the ladders. You will emerge in another vertical shaft filled with water. Drop down here and break another seal with your weapon. This floods the Tower of the Goddess. Warp back to the Surface to heal up, then warp to the Chamber of Extinction. Walk to the Gate of Time and go over to G-10 (one screen up, three screens right). If you're far away, he will charge at you and take out a big chunk of health if he connects. If you're close, he will shot some sort of blades at you. I wait until he spawns in the top right or top left of the room, then I jump up to the top platform and unload on him with the Pistol. Five shots will do it. Killing him unlocks the sacred box and reveals the Bombs. Grab them. Time to go blow stuff up. Go down to E-4. You have to climb down to E-5 then back up again to be able to do stuff here. Get to the platform left of the ladder toward the middle of the room. Stand on the right edge of the platform, face left and roll a bomb towards the wall. It will create a shortcut between E-4 and D-4, allowing you to access this part of the Graveyard from the grail point. Take the lower right path to F-4. Stand on the dead giant in here and face left. If you've messed up and need more bombs, buy them in the Endless Corridor shop, two screens to the right of the Grail Point in the Endless Corridor. Go back to the Fairy Point in the Spring in the Sky. Try to spawn a Key Fairy or an Item Fairy. If you get an Item Fairy, go and grind for coins again in the Chamber of Extinction. See how much faster it is with the Bracelet? You should be able to get up to 999 Coins. Go buy the Space Capster software in the Inferno Cavern shop, if you have not yet. If you get a Key Fairy, warp to the Grail Point in the Tower of the Goddess D-1. Head left into C-1 and the fairy shall eventually reveal the chest in the upper-right part of the room. Open the chest to claim the Spaulder. The Spaulder creates an energy trail behind your weapons when you swing them. If you die here without saving first, you'll have to get the Katana and fight Zu all over again. Remember you cannot teleport away from Guardian battles. ************************* * Guardian #7: Baphomet * ************************* Once you break the Ankh, drop down to the bottom left of the main platform in here. Some witches will summon Baphomet. Baphomet's first form is easy enough. She can summon lightning bolts, shoot energy balls in multiple directions and summon fire from the group. Double-jump and you'll be able to hit her in the head with the Axe up to four times each go. Don't worry about dodging the lightning or energy ball attacks. The fire you can dodge by running around; the bottom of the screen shows which flames will appear first. After you do enough damage, Baphomet will jump down from the platform. This begins the transition to Phase Two; she cannot be harmed during the change. The second phase is a bit trickier. First she calls witches to help her. Try to kill them fast as they can be a pain, especially the one with the stun beam. Baphomet can send energy balls toward you, they can be blocked with the Silver Shield. She still summons flames but they appear beneath you instead of in fixed locations. They can still be avoided by running away as soon as the attack begins. When she teleports to the center of the room, she is charging her lightning attack. To avoid it, stand on the left edge of the main platform. The bolts will pass harmlessly around you. Get in your Axe strikes whenever you can. You can also try using Chakram from a distance, just don't forget to switch back to the Shield. When you finally finish Baphomet off, she will drop down to the bottom of the screen and scream loudly. That's your cue to run like hell to the other edge of the room and jump onto the platforms there. The entire center of the screen will be immolated with flames and Baphomet will slowly move toward you. It would suck to die now, wouldn't it? Once her desperation attack is done, you can claim victory and move on. Fun Fact: Pause the game for a few seconds during Baphomet's death scream. For some reason, the music from the game's introduction will play during her final attack. ======================================== | Part XXII: The Secret of Life [COG1] | ======================================== Warp to the Gate of Illusion C-2. Go two screens left then climb down into A-3 (where you got the Fairy Clothes). You can break the lower-right wall here with the Katana, revealing the Chest containing 30 Bombs. Make sure that the Lamp of Time is charged and take the Gate of Time path back to the Tower of the Goddess. Drop to A-4 and you'll see the crusher block the dais again. In order to reset it, you'll have to go back to B-5; this time, enter A-4 from the ladder at the top of A-5. Use the Lamp of Time to stop the crusher, then run up there. You won't be able to actually place a weight until time restarts. Once it does, place the weight quickly then walk to the left before you are crushed. This creates a ladder up to A-3, where you can enter the Tower of the Goddess Shop and buy the Miracle Witch software (miracle.exe). Using miracle.exe in conjuction with other software allows you to pick what faeries you want; particularly, running miracle.exe and capstar.exe at the same time guarantees an Item Fairy. Now is a good time to load up to 999 coins, or get the Spaulder if you haven't. Make sure the Lamp of Time is charged. Warp to the Tower of the Goddess Grail Point at D-1. Then go through the top right exit into E-1. ®:Gate of Illusion E-1 Landmarks: Stray Fairy Chamber Treasure: Cog of Life Enter the chamber and talk to the fairy. The treasure chest will spawn below, but it is protected by multiple energy barriers. Head back down to E-2 and three tablets will appear. Read all three of them. Then go back left to D-2 and climb up to D-1. A new Sub-Boss, Ba, will have appeared. To defeat Ba, stand on the left side of the platform that is below and to the right of him. Jump up and strike him to make him drop down, wait for him to rise back up a bit, then activate the Lamp of Time. You should be able to kill him before the effect wears off. Once Ba is dead, drop down two screens to D-3 and walk left two screens to B-3. There is now a Lizard Man here, in addition to the Masked Men. Destroy the odd looking piece of the background in the center of the room with a weapon to reveal a light. Then you'll have to push the block above you out of the way to the right while the Lizard Man is at the top of the room. Wait near the light until the Lizard Man climbs down to the center level; lure him toward the light by running up to trigger his sword strike then running away. When the light hits him, he will be destroyed. Warp out and find a Nebra Statue to recharge the Lamp of Time. Enter the Gate of Illusion F-2 from the Tower of the Goddess again. You have to freeze everything with the Lamp of Time and destroy all the pots in the room before the lamp's effect wears off. This is virtually impossible to do without the Bracelet, so go get it if you skipped it for some reason. My preferred method is to stand next to the pot on the bottom of the room. Once activating the lamp, hit the pot there, then jump up to the next platform. Fire a Shuriken at that one and double-jump up to the statue. Jump over the statue and destroy the pot in the statue's hand, then smash the two on the left. If you succeed, all the pots will shatter at the same time and the Shell Horn will sound. Head back to the treasure room in E-1. Three daises will appear now; place weights upon them to remove the energy barrier. The chest will not open yet. Enter the chamber and talk to the fairy. Now the chest will unlock and a tablet will form where the chamber used to be; go down and grab the Cog of the Soul. You can skip using the Cog of the Soul on the tablet for now, if you want. However, some parts of the next area cannot be completed without doing it, so just do it now. Once it's done, Mudmen will continually spawn from the Sephirots here and in the Chamber of Birth. This action cannot be undone. Head back to the surface to heal up and/or save. =============================== | Part OPT01: Developer Rooms | =============================== You must have miracle.exe and mirai.exe running to do these. Linger for too long in any one part of the Chamber of Birth and the walls will start shooting energy balls at you. Also, if you whip any of the elephant statues in the Chamber of Birth, you will be zapped with lightning. Do not bring a Weapon Fairy here! Titan enemies are hard to attack head-on. You can kill them easily from behind or below. If you're forced to take them on from the front, use the Axe, which can stun them and allow you to get hits in. Read the tablet in the upper-left part of the room to further translate La-Mulanese. Then head down to D-2. ®:Chamber of Birth D-2 Enemies: 2x Sephirot, 1x Skilleton Landmarks: Saraswati Mural Pots: 10 coins (left) ??? (right) The wall in this room and many other rooms can rotate and attack you with projectiles. You cannot stop them, only avoid the projectiles or block with Silver Shield. Take the right path to E-2. ®:Chamber of Birth E-2 Enemies: 1x Titan, 1x Assassin Pots: 10 coins (bottom right) ??? (top right) ??? (left) Treasure: Hidden chest containing 30 coins Go to the right into F-2. Make your way through this room very quickly, as a giant sword will come out of the floor and sweep across the room in a clockwise motion. This sword does an incredible amount of damage between 60 and 200 points. If you manage to kill an Assassin in this room, the coin chest will appear in the upper-left area of the screen. ®:Chamber of Birth F-2 Enemies: 1x Wight, 1x Assassin Landmarks: Cross of Light Pots: 1 weight (bottom left) Treasure: Vessel You cannot get the Vessel yet. Go right into G-2. Again, move very quickly. This time a giant sword will sweep across the room from the ceiling, in a clockwise motion. Also, another sword will come straight up from the left side of the room. ®:Chamber of Birth G-2 Enemies: 1x Titan, 1x Sephirot Pots: ??? Treasure: Perfume Do not go into the bottom part of this room yet. The statue there will fire a laser that will kill you instantly. Kill the Titan and wait for one of the Mudmen to teleport to the top of the screen and press the floor switch up there which you cannot reach. Just grapple to a wall where they cannot reach you until it haapens. This will reveal the chest containing Perfume to the right. Grab it; it allows you to kill all skeleton-type enemies (incl. Skulleton and Skilleton) with one blow. Once you have the Perfume, drop down the hole in the lower right to reach G-3. ®:Chamber of Birth G-3 Enemies: 1x Titan, 1x Wight All you can do here is walk right into H-3. ®:Chamber of Birth H-3 Enemies: 1x Sephirot, 1x Skilleton, 1x Assassin Landmarks: Vishnu Mural Pots: ??? All you can do is drop down into H-4 ®:Chamber of Birth H-4 Enemies: 2x Titan, 1x Sephirot Pots: ??? (top) 10 coins (middle) ??? (bottom) Treasure: Hidden chest with 50 coins Destroy the wall in the bottom left part of the room to reveal the chest. The daises above it do nothing right now. Jump toward the tilted column in the lower right part of the room and hang onto it with the Grapple Claw. It will soon fall over, opening a path to I-4. Head right into I-4. ®:Chamber of Birth I-4 Enemies: 2x Wight Landmarks: Parvati Mural Treasure: Woman Statue Place a weight on the dais in the right side on the room, then walk left under the spike ceiling. It will trap you inside and the spikes will begin to come down. Place a weight on the rightmost skeleton and open the path back into H-4. Walk into H-4 then back into I-4. The trap will be dispelled; climb up to the chest at the top of the room to get the Woman Statue. Now head back to H-4 and climb a ladder up to H-3. In H-3, hit the very top part of the pillar at the top-right of the room until it breaks, revealing a Seal. Break the seal and the Shell Horn will sound. Jump left into the alcove second from the top and walk left to teleport. This will drop you into the bottom left of the room. Walk left into G-3. Make your way to the top and kill the Titan there. It's a pain to do, since using the Axe, Knife or Katana will get you hit with lightning. You'll have to wait until he's facing away from you or climbing the ladder and hit with the Chain Whip or Key Sword. Then go and break the wall to the right of the pot up top. Alternatively, you can stand in the top-left of the room and break the wall with Shurikens. Once the wall is broken, walk into it to teleport into the center section of the room. For some reason, everything moves faster here. Jump into the center alcove of the room and walk left into another teleport. This one drops you off in the Chamber of Extinction G-2. Place a weight on the dais to your left; the teleport to return is on the right side of this area but you don't need to use it. You're done here for now. ======================================================== | Part XXIV: Go Forth on Your Path, Chosen One [PHI01] | ======================================================== Warp to the Temple of the Sun and equip the Woman Statue. Make your way inside E-4 (where the floaty sperm things are). Kill the enemies here and stand still in the room for a while. You will gain the Maternity Statue. While you're here, toss some bombs into the left side of the wall with the Man mural on it. It three bombs, but the wall soon will break and reveal a chest containing 30 coins. Return to the Temple of Moonlight via the teleport point in Temple of the Sun E-3. You'll be in Temple of Moonlight D-4 again. Climb up into D-3, and go to the top right part of the room. Use the Maternity Statue on the mural there. Climb up the ladder to D-2 this creates, then walk left to drop back into the uterus part of D-3. Go into the bottom-center part of this very uterine area. Pause the game and wait for Lemeza to fall asleep. This will unlock the chest below. Crack it open to grab the Philosopher's Ocarina. Time to wake up some lazy people. The first one is to the room directly to the right, Temple of Moonlight E-3. Enter the chamber here and spe ak to Aldesana, the Philosopher of Death. She will explain some important plot stuff. Next, warp to the Tower of the Goddess D-1. Drop all the way down to D-5 then exit to C-5 via the small platform on the left. Enter the chamber here to speak with Samaranta, the Philosopher of Power. She will explain some stuff; when you exit, a new path will be open on the top left part of the room. Head over there and climb up into C-4. ®:Tower of the Goddess C-4 Landmarks: Gem and Scales Puzzle Treasure: Flail Whip Make sure you have at least seven weights before reading the tablet. Like the Chain Whip, you get one shot at this now. When you place a weight on a dais, a gemstone will drop down to the side on which you placed the weight. Place the weights/gems in the following order: Right, Right, Left, Left, Left, Right, Right. After all seven have been placed, go and stand on the left scale. This will reveal the Flail Whip at the bottom. Grab it, for it is the most powerful weapon in the game. Now warp to the Spring in the Sky B-7. Climb up to B-6 then head left to A-6. Take the elevator platform up to A-5 and enter the chamber here to speak with Giltoriyo, the Philosopher of Knowledge. He explains more about the plot and hints at how to accomplish something. More importantly, he unlocks a new path for you. Warp to the Endless Corridor E-2 (from the grail point, go right/down/left). Climb up the new ladder here into the Shrine of the Mother. ®:Shrine of the Mother F-3 Treasure: Death Seal Yep, more crusher walls here. Avoid them on your way to the top of the room and place weights on both daises, unlocking the chest. Grab the Death Seal; make sure to read the tablet on the right, as it will enable you to read La-Mulanese (if you've read the other two). Time to put the Death Seal to work. Warp to the Temple of the Sun and head over to B-5 (where you got the Ankh Jewel). Break the Death Seal in the upper right part of the room to reveal the Discount Shop. You have to enter from a different part of C-5 to access it, but you can buy Pistol Ammo and Bombs here cheaper than any other shop. Warp to the Shrine of the Mother and work your way back up to C-2, where the chest is. Break the four seals in here to unlock the chest and grab the Sacred Orb. On your way up, break the Death Seal in the upper left of D-3, too. You can't do anything there yet, though. There is one more Philosopher but we cannot get to her yet. Head back to the Surface and save. There's still more Chamber of Birth to explore. =============================================================== | Part XXV: Pass Through the Place Where We Were Born [COB02] | =============================================================== Make sure you have plenty of weights. Warp to the Chamber of Extinction and go to the Tower of the Goddess A-2 via the Gate of Time shortcut. Climb the left ladder up into the Chamber of Birth. Remember how fun it was teleporting around the Gate of Illusion? hahaha... ®:Chamber of Birth A-3 Enemies: 1x Wight, 1x Sephirot Landmarks: Chamber of Birth GRAIL POINT Pots: ??? (lower left) Same rules apply to the elephant statues here; do not strike them. You cannot get to the Grail Tablet yet. The wall to the right of where you entered is an illusion. Walk right through it to exit into B-3; go right to drop into B-4. ®:Chamber of Birth B-4 Enemies: 1x Wight, 1x Sephirot, 2x Titan Landmarks: NPC Chamber Pots: ??? Treasure: Chamber of Birth Map To open the chest, destroy the pot on the platform right above it. Use the Maternity Statue to unlock it. Take the middle right path to C-4. ®:Chamber of Birth C-4 Enemies: 1x Titan, 1x Wight, 1x Sephirot Landmarks: Chamber of Birth Shop, Brahma Mural You can walk into the Sephirot here just like any other shop in the game. You have to buy the Ankh Jewel for 150 coins. Jump across the pit to the right side of the room; equip the Crystal Skull then jump up and use it on the Skull mural on the wall. This will remove the barrier from the ladder to the right, which you will use later. Go left back to B-4; this time take the bottom right path back to C-4. Drop down here into C-5. For now you are limited to the top left part of the room; equip the Serpent Staff and use it on the pedestal here. This will retract part of the wall on the left side of the screen. Climb the ladder back up to C-4, then go back to B-4 and take the middle-right path to C-4 again. Now drop down the big pit in C-4 to access C-5. ®:Chamber of Birth C-5 Enemies: 3x Titan, 1x Sephirot, 1x Assassin Pots: ??? (left) 10 coins (right) Place a weight on the dais to your right, then push through the one-way wall and walk into D-5. ®:Chamber of Birth D-5 Enemies: 1x Wight, 1x Skilleton Treasure: Dimensional Key Attacking the Skilleton is dangerous, as it is framed by elephant statues. The best way to kill it is with the Key Sword or Shuriken, as they do not hit above or below. If you fall down the pit here, you will return to the top of the room. If you are hit while falling, you will continue to fall infinitely until you use the Grail to teleport out. Then you'll have to walk back here. It's sort of annoying, so watch out for the Wight's laser. Equip the Maternity Statue and use it in the empty space on the left. Double-jump over to the upper right alcove and use the Dragon Bone on the empty space there. Using the wrong item in either space will get you struck by lightning. Using both items correctly will create an infinity symbol in the center of the room. Jump down to that and use the Key of Eternity to reveal the chest containing the Dimensional Key in the lower right alcove. You can't get it yet. Go back to the top right alcove and walk right into E-5. ®:Chamber of Birth E-5 Enemies: 1x Titan, 1x Skilleton, 1x Sephirot Pots: ??? Walk directly right into a teleport wall. This will deposit you in the lower section of C-5. You now need to hit the face in the lower-right with a Chakram, by throwing it into the gap between the walls. The trick is to jump and throw the Chakram through the gap, then use the double-jump to land on the alcove and get the Chakram to elevate and hit the face. It may take several tries; if you need more Chakram, you can farm them from the Andras enemies in the Tower of the Goddess or buy them in the Twin Labyrinths Frontside Shop where you got the Lamp of Time. A successful throw will lower the bottom wall, allowing you to proceed to the lower right path into D-5. Drop down the pit here and you'll end up in the top-left part of D-5. Walk left back into C-5 and climb the ladder up to C-4. The ladder should be clear so that you can climb to the top of the room; if it is not, then you did not use the Crystal Skull in the right place; you need to backtrack and do it (see above). Place a weight to remove the wall up top and go left to B-4; climb the ladder up to the top of B-3. Place a weight up there to remove the wall and walk left into A-3. Climb down to the Grail Tablet to read it and save. Take the middle-right path to B-3. ®:Chamber of Birth B-3 Enemies: 1x Titan, 1x Sephirot Equip the Cog Of The Soul on the small cog-shaped symbol in the background. This will make the statue to the right start to move back and forth. You must climb up the ladder on the right and use the Cog again on the cog-shaped symbol there without being crushed by the statue. This will open a drop back into the top part of B-4. Place a weight on the dais to your left and walk left into a teleport wall. You're in E-5 again. Kill the Skilleton then climb down and place a weight on the dais there. This will cause the large block to the right to begin moving back and forth. Now go to the bottom left of the screen and hit it until it stops creating dust. Warp back to the Chamber of Birth Grail Point at A-3. Climb up the short ladder to the right and walk left to drop through a trap door just left of the elephant statue. This gets you back to where you entered. Take the path back to D-5; the wall which was blocking access to the treasure chest is now gone. Equip the Mulana Talisman and open the chest to claim the Dimensional Key. Now fall back through the room to reach the upper right exit; walk right into E-5 and the teleport that goes to the bottom part of C-5. Above the lower-right path to E-5, you can jump into the wall go proceed into E-5's false wall. Keep walking right into a hidden teleport wall. This puts you on the top right of D-5, where you can walk right into E-5. Use weights to get past the walls here and walk straight through E-5 into F-5. Climb down the ladders here; at the bottom of the ladders, walk left through a false wall back into E-5. Avoid the moving block and drop down into E-6. ®:Chamber of Birth E-6 Enemies: 2x Sephirot, 1x Titan, 1x Wight Pots: ??? Treasure: Hidden chest containing coins The tablet in the top left of this room used to be one of the most important tablets in the game. Now it isn't. Smash the statue on the bottom left of the vertical shaft to reveal the chest, then go right into F-6. ®:Chamber of Birth F-6 Enemies: 1x Titan, 3x Sephirot Landmarks: Ganesha Mural Pots: ??? You must examine the Ganesha mural here with the Hand Scanner. You SHOULD be examining every mural in the game, because it's fun to learn... but this one actually helps you to proceed with the game; the Shell Horn will sound once you've examined it. Remember, Ganesha is worshipped in India as the "Remover of Obstacles." Walk right into G-6. ®:Chamber of Birth G-6 Enemies: 1x Titan, 1x Wight, 2x Sephirot Landmarks: Lakshmi Mural Pots: 10 coins (upper right) If you examined Ganesha in the last room, the lower right wall will retract, revealing a teleport wall. Do not go there yet. Read the tablet at the bottom of the room, then stand in front of it and do the Dance of Life. Attack facing left three times, then attack facing right three times, then jump straight up. The Shell Horn will sound. Now walk right into the teleport. The teleport puts you back at the top of E-5. There is another teleport on the right wall here that takes you back to B-4. Now you have to head back through the area again until you are at the moving block in E-5. Avoid the moving block to get to the bottom right exit from E-5 into F-5. ®:Chamber of Birth F-5 Sub-Boss: Skanda Treasure: Pochette Key Enter/Exit: Chamber of Birth (after Sub-Boss defeated). If you did the Dance of Life in G-6, the Skanda Sub-Boss will appear once you walk into F-5. It is a giant Mudman like those spawned from the Sephirots here. You have to hit it in the chest. It runs around more or less randomly, occasionally jumping between platforms or teleporting to another part of the room. It will often stop moving to look around; this is the best time to attack it. You can hit it with the Axe when standing on the same level. Skanda only does collision damage but each hit will take away 22 points of your lige. Don't be too reckless and it will die eventually. Killing Skanda will unlock the chest containing the Pochette Key and reveal a field gate which connects to the other half of the Chamber of Birth at H-4. ========================================= | Part XXVI: Golden Key In Hand [PAL01] | ========================================= Breaking the seal in Chamber of Birth H-3 unlocked something. Warp to the Chamber of Extinction Grail Point at F-5. Light the lamp here and you'll see that the seal at the bottom of the room, which you broke to obtain the Life Seal, has re-appeared. Head right two screens to H-5, then make your way through the false wall puzzle in G-5 again, returning to the bottom of F-5 where you can break the seal once more. Head through the one-way door back up to the Grail Tablet, re-lighting the room if necessary. Hop onto the elevator platform and ride it up to F-4. Shoot a Flare up into the lantern cross that appears here now. This will permanently light up the Chamber of Extinction. Take the top path left from F-4 and continue left until you're at the top part of C-4. Climb the ladder here up into C-3, then go left into C-3 and climb up into C-2. Alternatively, you could enter the Chamber Extinction through the top field gate in the Temple of the Sun and proceed right into C-2. At any rate, once you reach Chamber of Extinction C-2, a mural will drop down on the right side of the room. Upon that mural is a hole resembling the Pochette Key. Equip the Pochette Key and use it on the hole. Warp to the Inferno Cavern and head back to D-6, where you fought Viy. Drop down the pit here to return to Chamber of Extinction G-2 ®:Chamber of Extinction G-2 Enemies: 1x Blob, 1x Mandrake You were in the center of this room earlier via a warp from the Chamber of Birth. Head right into H-2. ®:Chamber of Extinction H-2 Enemies: 2x Naga, 2x Garuda, 1x Mandrake Landmarks: Chamber of Extinction Shop Pots: 10 Caltrops (lower left) Exit: Inferno Cavern The ladder leading up from here goes to the Inferno Cavern, dropping you off right into the lava. Unnecessary. Climb down the ladder into H-3. ®:Chamber of Extinction H-3 Enemies: 2x Naga, 2x Skulleton Climb up the ladder to the right back into H-2. There's a hidden shop here that's revealed by destroying the block to the left of the Naga's platform. Place a weight on the dais above to pass the wall and climb back down to H-3. Destroy the block to the left of the ladder and it will remain destroyed for good, allowing you a shortcut if you ever need to come back here. Head right into I-3 ®:Chamber of Extinction I-3 - GUARDIAN ROOM Enemies: 2x Garuda Landmarks: NPC Chamber Don't run into the middle of the room right away, or you will be crushed by falling platforms. Once the platforms fall, Palenque's coffin will appear, as will the Ankh. You may want to go back and heal up and/or save before starting this fight. Equip the Pochette Key before using the Ankh Jewel. ************************* * Guardian #6: Palenque * ************************* Once the battle starts, use the Pochette Key to activate the Plane Model. If you do not do this, you will be ejected from the battle back into H-3. The chest here will contain a replacement Ankh Jewel for you to try again. This was a nice platform game. Now it's a bullet-hell side-scrolling shooter.
Try to avoid Palenque's projectiles as best you can; you can't really use the Silver Shield here because you need your own subweapons to attack. Collision damage with Palenque drains your life rapidly like touching Viy did. One or two hits could wipe you out. You can kill Palenque pretty quickly by throwing Chakram at his head. However, you can take a lot of damage by remaining in front of him when he charges at you or fires his main laser. If the Chakram strategy doesn't work, fly above him and throw Earth Spears down into his head, dodging out of his way when he heads toward you. If all else fails, six shots from the Pistol will end the fight quickly. Once Palenque's death animation starts, move to the left side of the screen. He will jump out of his craft toward you; knock him back into his craft with any weapon. If you fail to do so, he will explode and kill you instantly, forcing you to do the fight all over. Just like Baphomet, pausing for a while when his desperation attack begins will cause the Introduction music to play during the sequence. Whoo! Guess what's next? ========================================== | Part XXVII: Cleft of Dimension [DIM01] | ========================================== Warp to the Twin Labyrinths Frontside Gate at E-1. Go three screens to the right into H-1 ®:Twin Labyrinths H-1 Enemies: 1x Witch, 2x Leucrotta, 1x Soul Pots: 1 weight (upper left) ??? (middle left) ??? (bottom) Exit to the right into I-1 ®:Twin Labyrinths I-1 Enemies: 1x Bat, 2x Soul Landmarks: NPC Chamber Exit: Dimensional Corridor You can stand on the belt of the Poseidon Statue; this allows you to jump up to the top left platform. Use the Crystal Skull here to create a ladder into the Dimensional Corridor. ®:Dimensional Corridor B-7 Enemies: 3x Bat Pots: 10 coins Treasure: Dimensional Corridor Map You cannot go back down to the Twin Labyrinths from here. You cannot use the Grail to teleport out, either. If you do not have the Dimensional Key, the Sub-Bosses will respawn endlessly. Make sure you have the Dimensional Key. OK. Place a weight on the dais in the center of the room to unlock the chest. Grab the Map then climb up the ladder into B-6. ®:Dimensional Corridor B-6 Enemies: 1x Satan Landmarks: Dimensional Corridor GRAIL POINT Pots: ??? Treasure: Hidden chest with 30 coins Exit: Endless Corridor The door here drops you off in the Endless Corridor. It is your only way out of this field for now, so you will be returning here whenever you need to leave and heal. You can destroy the top right wall to reveal the chest with 30 coins. Climb up the ladder to B-5. ®:Dimensional Corridor B-5 Sub-Boss: Girtablilu Enemies: 1x Devil, 1x Bat Pots: ??? Landmarks: Cross of Light Girtablilu is a joke. You can hit her from below with the Axe and she can never hurt you because her projectiles can't pass through platforms. After you finish her off, you can drop back down to B-6 to quicksave. Return to B-5 and take the left path into A-5. ®:Dimensional Corridor A-5 Sub-Boss: Kuusarikku Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 2x Satan Landmarks: Philosopher of Life's Chamber Entering the room will spawn Kuusarikku. It will wander back and forth slowly; eventually it will turn yellow and start charging around the room wildly... dodge when it does this. Hit it in the head when it is walking slowly. Be careful as you will be zapped if you accidentally hit the wall in the upper center of the room. After Kuusarikku dies, a dais will appear in the top right of the room. Place a weight there to remove the center wall. This allows access to Fobos, the Philosopher of Life. Enter and speak to her. After leaving the chamber, two new tablets will appear; read both of them to learn the mantras of BIRTH and DEATH (more on mantras later). Only way to go now is down to A-6. ®:Dimensional Corridor A-6 Enemies: 3x Bat, 1x Satan Pots: 10 coins (left), ??? (right) Drop down to A-7. ®:Dimensional Corridor A-7 Sub-Boss: Kulullu Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 1x Satan If you head toward the ladder in the bottom right, a block will appear to stop you and Kulullu will spawn. If Kuusarikku was rough on you, your health might be low and you could have a hard time with Kulullu. Its attacks don't do a lot of damage though. Kulullu will attack by jumping out of the water onto one of the platforms. Then it shoots energy up from its trident which splits into four and shoots back down through the room. DO NOT fall into the water. Stay on the top platform; you can jump away if Kulullu jumps out of the water beneath you. If it comes within range, you can hit it with the Axe. If it lands on the left platform, jump to the right platform and the bolts can't get you; vice versa if Kulullu jumps onto the right platform. If it's on either of the middle platforms, you can grapple onto the wall to the right to be safe. Once Kulullu is dead, you will be able to climb back up to A-6 and walk right into B-6. If you didn't get a life refill from Kulullu's experience drop, go through the door here to the Endless Corridor and warp back to the Surface to heal. When you're ready, warp back to the Dimensional Corridor. From B-6, climb up to B-5 and go left into A-5. Climb the new ladder that forms here up into A-4. ®:Dimensional Corridor A-4 Sub-Boss: Enlil Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 2x Amon, 1x Devil, 1x Assassin Enlil isn't so tough. It will teleport around the room, then charge at attack that sends energy rings around the room. If you try to hit it before it starts charging its attack, it will jump away. Once it starts charging, you can hit it with the Flail Whip a whole bunch of times before it attacks. You may get hit once or twice but you should survive. Once Enlil is dead, a ladder to A-3 appears. Climb up. ®:Dimensional Corridor A-3 Enemies: 3x Amon Treasure: Angel Shield DO NOT leave this room without placing a weight on the dais on the top left platform. Once you do, head right into B-3. ®:Dimensional Corridor B-3 Sub-Boss: Mushnahhu Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 1x Amon, 1x Devil Pots: 10 coins (top) Treasure: Beo La-Mulana software (beolamu.exe) The Mushnahhu spawn from the egg-rock which drops into the center of the room. First, one will spawn; kill that one and two will spawn. Kill one of those two and four more will spawn. Each has a fixed pattern, observe them and you'll figure out the best time to hit them. It only takes three hits with the Flail Whip or Axe to kill each one. Once they are dead, scan the room with torude.exe to obtain the Beo La-Mulana software (beolamu.exe). Then return left to A-3. DO NOT proceed right to C-3. When you return to A-3, a new dais appears at the top right. Place a weight there and another dais appears in the lower center. Place a weight there to remove the sacred box and reveal the Angel Shield. Grab it. You cannot go back to the Grail Point yet; hopefully your health is in decent shape. When you're ready, head two screen right from A-3 into C-3. Dimensional Corridor C-3 - GUARDIAN ROOM Tiamat is not home yet, but you can see little lanterns lit up on the background for each of her children you've killed. There is another sub-boss above you in C-2, but I prefer to put that one off before there is a very annoying task to be done there. Head right to D-3. ®:Dimensional Corridor D-3 Sub-Boss: Umu Dabrutu Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): ??? Pots: ??? The whirlwind around Umu Dabrutu makes him invulnerable; you have to wait until he sheds it, which he does when he charges at you. It's hard to hit him and avoid being hit at the same time. You just have to outlast him. Equip lamulana.exe, move.exe and deathv.exe; Stand in the lower-left corner and wait for him to come toward you. Whip like hell when he does and you'll score one or two hits. When he sends a column of whirlwind towards you, whip that furiously. If all goes well, you'll kill him and take 150 damage at most. If you have less than 150 health, go farm the Amon enemies in A-3 and A-4 for EXP before coming here. Once Umu Dabrutu is dead, you can backtrack. The lower right from A-4 which was blocked is now clear, so you can return to B-6 to save at the Grail Tablet and use the door to the Endless Corridor to heal up on the Surface. Once you're done, warp back to the Dimensional Corridor. From B-6, climb up to B-5; this time go out the right exit into C-5. ®:Dimensional Corridor C-5 As you walk into the room, the path back will seal behind you. Fear not. Climb up into C-4. ®:Dimensional Corridor C-4 Sub-Boss: Ugallu Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 2x Demon, 1x Devil Pots: ??? Jump up to spawn Ugallu, a lion-like foe. Ugallu will jump around from platform to platform, being annoying and doing collision damage. You need to hit it in the head. When Ugallu turns blue, it will shoot around the room, but you won't take any damage from this if you face him the Angel Shield out (he will pass through you). Be careful as you won't have access to the exit right after this battle. Once Ugallu is defeated you can drop back down to C-5 and proceed right into D-5. Nothing will appear in D-5 for now, so go down the ladder to D-6 ®:Dimension Corridor D-6 Enemies: 2x Satan, 1x Amon Pots: ??? Take the bottom left drop into D-7; angle right so you land on the left platform in D-7. ®:Dimensional Corridor D-7 Sub-Boss: Lahamu Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 1x Satan Lahamu will appear on the right platform. He will block sub-weapons, so jump over and whip/axe him in the face, then jump back over and wait for his attack. Dodge his attack, then jump over and hit him again. If you fall into the water, Lahamu will take a fish form and swim around down there. He's a lot harder to deal with when that happens, so try to swim out of the water back to the platforms and deal with him there. Defeating Lahamu creates a ladder back up to D-6. Climb back up to D-5 and head to the left. Uh oh, the exits closed. ®:Dimensional Corridor D-5 Sub-Boss: Ushum Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 1x Amon, 1x Devil Ushum is a giant worm. It flies around the room trying to crash into you. Avoid it and whip/axe in the face until it dies. The path back to C-5 opens up. Backtrack to the Grail Point to save or head out to the Surface (via the Endless Corridor) to heal up. One optional thing you can do now is go to the Shrine of the Mother. Backtrack up to D-3 where Tiamat's Wedge is. You broke the Death Seal here earlier but could not go to C-3; now that you've spoken to Fobos, a ladder will appear here. You can head from D-3 and C-3 now. C-3 is the Home of the Mother; there's something you can read there. It will become inaccessible once you finish the Dimensional Corridor. At any rate, head back to the Dimensional Corridor and return to Tiamat's Room in C-3 and climb up the right ladder to C-2. ®:Dimensional Corridor C-2 Sub-Boss: Ushumgallu Enemies (after sub-boss defeated): 2x Satan Pots: 1 weight Ushumgallu has three attacks: -Shoot a barrage of blue breath at you (block with shield or avoid) -Shoots a slow-moving red fireball at you from his tail (block with Angel Shield or Whip) -Shoots a blue ball from his tail which creates a water spout that lifts you up from the floor. Ushumgallu will use three attacks while hovering in the center, then move to the left side of the room. He will then use three attacks from the left side, and fly over to the right, using three attacks there and then moving left/right over and over again with three attacks in each spot. For now, the only one we're interested in is the water spout because we need to get up to C-1. Stay on the right side of the platform and wait for Ushumgallu to use his water spout attack. When he does, quickly swim up and jump up to the ladder in the top right. It's harder than it sounds, because the spout doesn't last very long, so you might not make it up high enough. Second, you could get hit by his blue breath which he almost always uses after the water spout. If you don't get the on the first try when he's in the center of the room, your odds pretty low that you'll get it on a subsequent attempt. Since you can't warp out, you have to let yourself get killed and then try again. It is too hard to get up there once Ushumgallu is killed (possible, but hard). Once you make it, climb up to C-1. ®:Dimensional Corridor C-1 Pots: ??? Treasure: Final Sacred Orb As if getting here wasn't hard enough, now you have to get through this mess to reach the Sacred Orb. If you fall out of this room, you'll have to climb the water spout all over again. You can use the Lamp of Time to freeze the pot that drops down in a spot where you can jump down into it, then jump over to the small platform on the left. Alternatively, you could jump, angle left to avoid the spikes, then use the double-jump to hop over there. Or just fall into the spikes and use the immunity period to make your jump (you're about to get a Sacred Orb anyway). Once you make it to the small platform, double-jump up to the next platform above you. Carefully jump to the top left platform, then drop down to break the Death Seal there. Hop to the wall on the right, avoiding the spikes. Grapple and kick off to reach the chest. If you land too low on the wall to kick off to the chest, land on the platform below the chest and jump back to the wall to try again. Success! Now that we have the Sacred Orb, we have to actually go and beat Ushumgallu. Drop down to C-2 and he will re-appear when you approach the ladder. Best tactic is to ride the water spout to the top right platform again. Ushum's blue breath can't get you there. When he turns to face you, you can hit him with Chakram (Shuriken don't work). If he sends a fireball your way you can block with the Angel Shield or hit it with the Katana/Axe. When he's on the right side of the room, you can't hit him, but his wings won't hurt you either, so you're safe until he goes left again. If you can't get back to the top-right platform, use the middle platforms on either side. You'll have to jump and hit, then dodge and get back to the platform. Killing Ushumgallu lets you go back down the ladder to C-3, and by extension, to the Grail Point and Endless Corridor exit. To access the last of Tiamat's children, you have to backtrack through the corridor. From the Grail Point at B-6, go left one screen then up two to A-4 (Enlil's Room). Stand in front of the statue in the background; face left and attack once then turn right and attack once. A glowing symbol will appear above the statue. Proceed right through B-4. ®:Dimensional Corridor B-4 Enemies: 1x Bat, 1x Devil Pots: 10 coins (upper right) Drop down to B-5 and go right twice into D-5. Stand in the middle of D-5 and do the same as in A-4 (attack left once, attack right once). Another symbol will glow on the wall above you. Go left to C-5 and climb up to C-4. Perform the ritual again in front of the statue in the center of the room. A symbol shall appear beneath you. Climb up to C-3 then go right to D-3. Perform the ritual in front of the swirly mural in the background to cause another glowing symbol above you. The right part of the floor will pull away to reveal the path down to D-4. If this does not occur, you messed up somewhere. Go back to A-4 and start over. Otherwise, jump down into D-4. ®:Dimensional Corridor D-4 Sub-Boss: Mushussu Treasure: Ankh Jewel Mushussu has two attacks. -It shoots fire toward the ground at you (block with Angel Shield or grapple to wall on the right) -It rears up on its hind legs and sends a laser beam sweeping across the room (stand under its front left to avoid) Whenever Mushussu is not attacking, jump up and strike it in the face. It doesn't take too much effort to bring it down. Defeating Mushussu reveals the Ankh Jewel and a ladder back up to D-5. Grab the Ankh Jewel and climb out to D-5. Make your way back to the Grail Point to save and warp back to the Surface to heal. When you're ready, warp back to the Dimensional Corridor and return to C-3, where Tiamat's Ankh awaits you. I recommend running randc.exe, mekuri.exe, deathv.exe and move.exe for this one. *********************** * Guardian #8: Tiamat * *********************** Remain at the bottom center of the room after breaking the Ankh until Tiamat forms. Have the Angel Shield ready to go, as you can block many of her projectiles with it. Once Tiamat appears, you can double-jump straight up and hit her with the Axe twice per jump. You can block her energy orbs with the Angel Shield. Don't bother trying to avoid her lasers; just keep plugging away with the Axe. It won't take long (nine Axe hits with software combination) for her to scream and change to her second phase. In her second phase, keep hitting with the Axe. Still block the energy orbs with the Shield and ignore the laser. When she raises both arms to do her chest attack, move to either side a bit so the Angel Shield can block the projectiles. When Tiamat leaps into the background, she is preparing her Tidal Wave attack; stand directly beneath one of the platforms in the room, or you will take heavy damage. Make sure to get back to the middle of the room after the wave subsides so that you don't get trapped outside of her arms. Once you hit her enough to make her scream again, she will go into her final form. Keep plugging away with the Axe and dodging the Tidal Wave. Her third form follows up the Tidal Wave with the devastating Octagon Laser. After each Tidal Wave, jump up and grapple the top-left or top-right wall. Once raises her arms, she is charging her Octagon Laser Attack. As soon as this happens, drop down to upper platform and double-jump across to the other side, then drop to bottom of the screen and run beneath Tiamat's chest. The Octagon Laser should miss you and you will be in position to attack Tiamat again. If she does the Octagon Laser attack without doing the Tidal Wave first, you'll probably get hit. You can hurt yourself with Caltrops and walk through the Octagon Laser while your mercy invincibility is in effect. Once Tiamat dies, you can use the Grail to warp out of the Dimensional Corridor at will. But first, equip the Mulana Talisman and open the chest Tiamat left behind. It contains the Matagama Jewel. Now that all 8 Guardians are dead, you can no longer warp to the Shrine of the Mother. The music on the Surface changes as well. The villagers are hiding and Elder Xelpud is broken. We need to break the seal. ========================================================= | Part XXVIII: The Elixir Gives Shapes To Souls [MED01] | ========================================================= Make sure the Lamp of Time is charged. Warp to the Tower of Ruin, then go down two screens and left one screen to C-4 (site of the first La-Mulanese translation tablet). Use the Lamp of Time and the Sky Fish inside the room will slow down enough to be visible. Kill two Sky Fish before the lamp wears off to make the Shell Horn sound. The machinery in the bottom part of the room will retract. Place a weight on the dais which is revealed. This will spawn the Goddess of Life Statue, which we will be visiting later. Head out of the Tower of Ruin. Enter the Chamber of Birth from the ladder in the Graveyard of Giants. Climb down one screen to D-2; the backside door here will now be open. Don't go there yet; Go three screens to the right into G-2. Remember the statue at the bottom I told you to avoid earlier? Break out the Angel Shield and walk right towards it. The shield will reflect the laser back into the statue and destroy it, enabling you to walk to the left and break open the chest containing the Vessel. You may notice on the way there that the Cross of Light is now glowing most unusually. Maybe there's something to those things? Anyway, proceed back to D-2 enter the backside door to a new part of the Chamber of Extinction. ®:Chamber of Extinction C-1 Enemies: 2x Garuda If you whip the statue on the left a bunch of times it will come to life and starting shooting lasers at you. Don't do that. Walk right into D-1. ®:Chamber of Extinction D-1 Enemies: 2x Garuda, 2x Naga Take the right path to E-1 ®:Chamber of Extinction E-1 Sub-Bosses: Ox-Head and Horse-Face Enemies (after sub-bosses killed): 2x Bat, 2x Garuda You've killed a dozen bosses tougher than these chumps. Take out Horse-Face on the right by double-jumping up to hit him in the face. Once he is dead, turn around and do the same to Ox-Head. Once they are both killed, exit to right and come right back. Stand in the center of the room and use the Matagama Jewel to raise up a platform. When the platform peaks, use the Matagama Jewel again in the hole in the background. Then head right to F-1. ®:Chamber of Extinction F-1 Enemies: 4x Bat, 1x Blob Enter/Exit: Surface Whip the statue on the right about 20 times to bring it to life. Double-jump up to stand on its head and ride it until it is far enough left that you can reach the platforms. Climb the ladder there up to the Surface. ®:Surface J-3 Enter/Exit: Chamber of Extinction Climb up to J-2. Roll a bomb into the wall to the right of the ladder to reveal a chest containing 200 coins. Continue left into I-2, then drop down into I-3. Climb down the ladder from I-3 into the Inferno Cavern. ®:Inferno Cavern C-1 Treasure: Hidden chest with 50 coins Enter/Exit: Surface Break open the wall to the right of the ladder in the middle of the room to access the chest. You like Mega Man, right? Well, those disappearing blocks are here now. You need to grapple onto the right wall, kick off to land on the right-most block. Wait a second then jump over to the center block, then jump to the top-left block when it forms and HOP left into B-1 (Jump too far and you'll overshoot the block. Standing in the spikes here will hurt you. Make sure to have deathv.exe and move.exe running together, since it upgrades your mercy invincibility time. ®:Inferno Cavern B-1 Enter/Exit: Tower of Ruin The disappearing blocks continue here. Wait a few seconds before jumping off the starting block. There's a noticeable delay. It's hard to time out the first time. If your health runs low from continued failure, you have to warp back to the Surface to heal and start all over again from the Graveyard of the Giants. Once you make it to the door, enter the Tower of Ruin. ®:Tower of Ruin F-1 Enemies: Sky Fish Enter/Exit: Inferno Cavern Head right to G-1 ®:Tower of Ruin G-1 Enemies: 2x Soul, Sky Fish Break the Death Seal here and return to F-1. A ladder down to F-2 will form, allowing you to climb down to F-2. Climb down to F-2 and place a weight to create a ladder. This will let you return here without going through the disappearing blocks in the Inferno Cavern again. Teleport out of here and save somewhere. You may need to heal up on the Surface after your spiked adventures. Warp to the Chamber of Extinction. From the Grail Point, climb up one screen and go left two screens to the giant mural in D-4. It will look different now because you used the Matagama Jewel earlier. Scan the room with torude.exe and you will receive the Mantra software (mantra.exe) Warp to the Chamber of Extinction and take the Gate of Time shortcut to Tower of the Goddess A-2. Drop down and take the shortcut from A-2 to B-8. Make your way up to B-7. ®:Tower of the Goddess B-7 Enemies: 2x Chonchon, 1x Toujin, 1x Cyclops, 1x A Bao A Qu Pots: 10 coins (center) ??? (bottom) Enter/Exit: Tower of Ruin If you get knocked down the pit here, you will fall all the way down to B-9. You can break the lower-left wall here with Shuriken, then scan it using the torude.exe software. It gives a hint about... something. Climb the girders on the right side into B-6. ®:Tower of Ruin G-2 Enemies: 1x Soul Landmarks: Medicine Statue Enter/Exit: Goddess of Life Statue If you killed the Sky Fish earlier, the Goddess of Life Statue will be revealed here. It's not doing anything yet. Drop down into the lava and place a weight on the dais to open the path to F-2. ®:Tower of Ruin F-2 Enemies: 3x Slime, 1x Dakini Pots: 10 coins Climb the ladder here to get back up to F-1. Go left from F-1 to enter E-1. ®:Tower of Ruin E-1 Sub-Boss: Nuwa Treasure: Djed Pillar Nuwa will come crashing down from the ceiling when you move toward the center of the room. Her fireballs can be blocked by the Angel Shield or destroyed with weapons. Stand on the right platform when you entered the room and wait for Nuwa to come close. When she does you can jump and strike here with the Flail Whip or Axe. After you do enough damage, she will stop coming over there and start throwing more fireballs. You will have to approach her in the center of the room. When you get close, she will use her helix laser attacks; avoid these and try to get close enough to hit with the Axe. If you stand on the far-left platform, you should be able to double-jump and hit her with the Chakram or Pistol, finishing her off quickly. Once Nuwa is dead, equip the Mulana Talisman and open the chest containing the Djed Pillar. Go right one room the climb back down to F-2. Activate the Mantra software and turn on the mantra of DEATH. Equip the Djed Pillar and use it in this room to dispel the Dakini spirit. Go left into E-2. Tower of Ruin E-2 Enemies: 3x Black Dog, Yakshi Treasure: Hidden chest with 30 coins Use the Djed Pillar in here to dispel the Yakshi spirit. Break open the wall on the left with 10 Shuriken to reveal the coin chest. Open the Mantra menu and change to the BIRTH mantra. Go left into D-2. Use the Djed Pillar with the BIRTH mantra in D-2 to dispel the fairies. Return to the Goddess of Life Statue in G-2. Equip the Vessel and use it while standing beneath the statue to acquire the yellow Medicine of the Mind. If you did not receive the yellow medicine, then you dispelled the spirits incorrectly. You must take the Vessel to Fobos in the Dimensional Corridor to dump it out and start over again. ======================================= | Part XXIX: Let Us Seal Them [MAN01] | ======================================= In order to reach the final boss, we must now use Mantras to drive a wedge from the backside of each area. Head to the Temple of the Sun F-3 (where the Sphinx was) and take the exit on the right which the Sphinx used to be blocking. It will wrap around to C-3, where there are a number of tablets that you weren't able to get to until killing Viy. These tablets describe the locations of the Mantras you must recite. "The first mantra is in the Corridor The entrance to the never-ending corridor" That's simple enough, right? Warp to the Endless Corridor and head to D-1, the very first room you entered when you came here from the Mausoleum of the Giants. A Mantra tablet will appear. Read it and record the mantra MARDUK. Where to chant it, though? The simple answer is C-1, one screen to the left of where the mantra tablet is. Activate mantra.exe, select the MARDUK mantra and use the Djed Pillar in C-1 (this is the process to 'Chant' the mantra); a wedge will appear. How were you supposed to know that? Supposedly, it's based on the Crosses of Light. Tiamat's Room in the Dimensional Corridor is one room across and two rooms up from the Cross of Light, so the Wedge in the Endless Corridor is one room across and two up from the Cross of Light there. On to the next. "The second mantra is at the foot of the twins. At the tip of the feet that connect the two" In other words, at the bottom of the Twin Labyrinths, between the two statues you lit up with Flares. E-5 to be exact (two rooms to the left of the backside Grail Point. Read the mantra tablet that appears there to record the SABBAT mantra. Baphomet's Room was two across and two down from the Frontside Cross of Light. Two across and two down from the Backside Cross of Light is Buranan's Room, H-5 (one screen to the right of the Backside Grail Point). Chant the SABBAT mantra here to create the second wedge. "The third mantra is on the path leading outside. At the side of Hell's gatekeeper." The path leading outside? Not too long ago, you accessed the Surface through the Chamber of Extinction. Head to the Chamber of Birth via the Graveyard of the Giants and take the backside door into the Chamber of Extinction. The mantra tablet will appear in D-1, one screen to the right of where you entered. Read it to record the MU mantra. Palenque's Room was two to the left of the Cross of Light here. Go back to the Chamber of Birth through the backside door. Look at the map; you are two screens to the left of the Cross of Light. Chant the MU mantra here to create the third wedge. "The fourth mantra is inside the Giant She who stands inside the land of Inferno" This refers to the Lamia statue in Inferno Cavern F-2. Yes, you need to go to the Inferno Cavern... but first, you need to go to the Tower of Ruin via the Tower of the Goddess. Climb your way to Tower of Ruin F-1 and enter the backside door there. You'll be back in Inferno Cavern B-1. Destroy the Lamia Statue to the right of the door and place a weight on the dais it reveals. Head to the Inferno Cavern F-2 (the field gate in the Temple of the Sun is the quickest route). The Lamia Statue will disappear only if you placed the weight in B-1, revealing the mantra tablet. Read it to record the VIY mantra. Viy's Room was three across and one up from the Cross of Light in the Inferno Cavern (if you wrap around from G-2 to D-2). Three across and one up from the Cross of Light in the Tower of Ruin is E-2 (where Yakshi was). This means entering from the Tower of the Goddess again. Chant the VIY mantra in E-2 to drive the fourth wedge. "The fifth mantra is below the goddess. At the foot of the goddess staring at the collapsed tower." The collapsed tower in the Tower of the Goddess was where you got the map there, in C-8 where the Cross of Light is. One room to the left in C-7 is the goddess statue which stares that direction. The mantra tablet will appear beneath her. Read it to record the BAHRUN mantra. Bahamut's Room was four spaces up from the Spring in the Sky Cross of Light. Four up from the Cross of Light in the Tower of the Goddess is C-4 (where you got the Flail Whip). Chant the BAHRUN mantra there to drive the fifth wedge. There is no clue for the location of the sixth mantra. After you drive the first five wedges, return to the room in the Temple of the Sun that had all the tablets about the mantras. A new mantra tablet will appear. Read it to record the WEDJET mantra. Ellmac's Room is one across and four down from the Cross of Light in the Temple of the Sun. One across and four down from the Cross of Light in the Temple of Moonlight is D-6, where you fought Anubis. Chant the WEDJET mantra here to drive the sixth wedge. "The seventh mantra is by the spike. Atop the five mysterious floors." Graveyard of the Giants F-3 (Cross of Light location) had those five ice blocks that went down when you stood on them. Head there and the mantra tablet will appear next to the spikes on the upper left part of the room. Read the tablet to learn the ABUTO mantra. This is where things get confusing, or stop making sense entirely. Sakit's Room in C-5 is two up (if you wrap around) from the Cross of Light in the Mausoleum. You still have to count horizontally; going left from C-5 (wrapping around from B-5 to E-5) is four across. The wedge in the Graveyard is in B-1(the room with the ladder to the Gate of Illusion), four squares to the left and two up of the Cross of Light in F-3. "The last mantra is the sign of courage" You proved your courage very early on in the game, in the Gate of Guidance. Remember where that was? Yep, the room where you got the Shuriken, two screens to the right of the Grail Tablet. Go there and read the final mantra tablet, recording the LAMULANA mantra. Amphisbaena's Room in the Gate of Guidance is two to the left of the Cross of Light. It's on the same plane horizontally, so counting up from the Cross of Light at C-5 is five squares (if you include the blank square at C-2 and wrap around from C-1 to C-5. Two to the left and five up of the Cross of Light in the Gate of Illusion is D-1 (where you fought Ba). Chant the LAMULANA mantra here to drive the final wedge. Thus completes the quest of mantras and wedges. I had to work real hard to rationalize those last two... those wedge locations just don't make sense. By the way, once you've driven all eight wedges, the Key Sword gets an upgrade. It is now as powerful as the Flail Whip. ================================ | Part XXX: Lemezacare [MOT01] | ================================ Time to return to the Shrine of the Mother. You cannot warp there; you have to go through the Endless Corridor again and climb down the ladder at the bottom into the True Shrine of the Mother. ®:True Shrine of the Mother C-1 Enemies: 3x Backside Bat, 1x Skilleton Things look different here now. Take the top-right path out of B-4 into C-4; drop down a level and return to B-4; go down another level then back into C-4. Whip the tentacle in the center of this room to make it retract. Go right into D-4 and head to the top of the room. Your path is blocked; crap. Warp back to the Endless Corridor and talk to the Fairy Queen. Return to the Shrine of the Mother and go to D-4. The fairies will remove the barrier, allowing you to climb up into D-3. Jump into the left and climb down the small ladder. Walk left into C-3. ******************************** * The Final Battle with Mother * ******************************** Recommended software for this battle are deathv.exe, move.exe, randc.exe, mekuri.exe and lamulana.exe; this will take up all the space on your hard drive but it gives you increased damage for the Axe and the Flail Whip, longer mercy invicibility and 32 extra life if you hit 0. Break the four seals and the Mother's Ankh will appear. "Wait," you say, "I don't have any Ankh Jewels." Yes, you do. Look at the Key Sword; it has a red glow in the middle. Equip the Key Sword and hit the Ankh with it. ************* * Phase One * ************* Double-jump up hit the face in the mouth with the Flail Whip or Key Sword. Use the Angel Shield to block the energy balls she spits out. When you do enough damage, the face will crack. At this point, the Holy Grail and Vessel will appear and pour onto the face. If you haven't read every Grail Tablet in the game, the battle will end and you will be ejected from the ruins. If you do not have the Yellow Medicine of the Mind, the battle will end and you will be ejected from the ruins. If you have correctly filled the Grail and the Vessel, Phase Two will begin. ************* * Phase Two * ************* The Mother will hover at the top of the room. She will occasionally float over to the other side and/or summon an energy beam from the ground. Other times, she will swoop down toward you. Stand on the side of the room opposite the Mother. When she swoops down, jump and throw a Chakram, then duck into the corner of the room until the Mother passes above you. Then run to the other side of the room and repeat. Three Chakram hits will do her in. If you don't have any Chakram, you can throw Shuriken or Bombs at her when she swoops down, or fire Flares from below when she is hovering above you. *************** * Phase Three * *************** You need the Angel Shield and the Axe for this one. The Mother will take the form of a skeleton holding a skeletal baby (I prefer the imagery of the original game, but it is what it is). This form will create lightning barriers on the edges of the screen to prevent you from hiding in the corners. The skull will cry tears which will drop down and can hurt you; they can be blocked with the Angel Shield. When the tears hit the ground they will form a group of flames. The baby will occasionally charge up a laser and fire at you. This laser cannot be blocked and is difficult to dodge. You may just have to bear it. When the Mother stops moving left-to-right, she will call down a rain of crosses which strike directly below the skull. You can avoid this by not standing beneath the skull when the mother stops moving. To damage this phase, you have to double-jump up and hit with the Axe. Time your double-jump to be when the skull is bobbing downward and you can score two hits per jump. It only takes about 8 hits with the Axe and software combos to end it. ************** * Phase Four * ************** This phase takes place underwater. The Mother will take the form of a large eye surrounded by three tentacles. She will swim toward you to do collision damage. Striking the tentacles several times will make them retract; you need to kill the eye to proceed. The best way to do this is with three shots from the Pistol. If you're low on Pistol ammo, you can try Chakram, or throwing Earth Spears from the top of the screen. Or just swim up to it and whip it. ************** * Phase Five * ************** Mother's final phase will start out hovering slowly around the room. Jump up and hit with the Axe. Soon she will rush to the top of the room, and Amphisbaena's Wedge will appear. Mother will begin using Amphisbaena's flame attack now. She moves close to the ground when she does it. The attack is easy to avoid; you can get behind her when she does it and strike with the Flail Whip or Axe; if you are in front of her, move far enough away to avoid the attack and throw a sub-weapons at her. After you do some damage, Sakit's Wedge will appear. In addition to Amphisbaena's attack, she will now shoot Sakit's energy balls. She will only do this from the lower corner of each room. The balls can be blocked with the Angel Shield, or you can dodge them and send sub-weapons her way from a distance. Next, Ellmac's Wedge will appear. She will shoot Ellmac's fireballs. You can tell when this attack is coming because she does it from a higher elevation than the Amphisbaena or Sakit attack. Two fireballs will go below her and one will go across the room. You can block the projectiles with the Angel Shield but not the ground fire they leave behind. The fireballs aren't hard to dodge; this attack doesn't give much opportunity to attack; stick to attacking during the Amphisbaena or Sakit forms. When Bahamut's Wedge appears, she will gain his water breath attack. You can tell when this is coming because she will move to the top corners of the room. If you stand directly beneath her, the attack will miss you; you can shoot Flares at up her from there. Viy's Wedge allows her to fire Viy's heavy eye laser across the room. She does this from the lower corners. The laser will pass over your head if you do not jump; you can get behind her and attack with melee weapons or the Pistol. She also stops using Sakit and Amphisbaena's attacks once she starts using Viy's. Palenque's Wedge gives her a bullet rain attack which isn't too hard to dodge if you are standing under her. Her Palenque attack is done from the same altitude as her Ellmac attack, and she stops using Ellmac's attack when she starts using Palenque's. You can shoot flares up at her while she is doing it or jump and hit with the Axe in the brief delay afterward. When Baphomet's Wedge appears, the battle gets harder. Mother is now able to create pillars of light from the floor. These do a fair amount of damage and limit your ability to move around the room. She also alters her Viy attack, doing it from a higher altitude but sweeping it downward. You can reach her with the Axe and double-jump when she does this. She also stops using Bahamat's attack now. Tiamat's Wedge gives her the projectile rain that Tiamat shot from her chest. Mother does this only when she moves to the top center of the room. It can be dodged and the projectiles can be blocked with the Angel Shield. She stops using Palenque's attack now. This final phase moves around quick and does not give you many chances to attack. It's a good time to break out the Pistol and fire away whenever you get a good shot. When Mother's health gets critical, a fetus-like creature will appear in the upper background. Mother will scream when she dies, then reach out towards you before her soul disintegrates. You can breathe now. =============================== | Part XXXI: Run Away [ESC01] | =============================== Just kidding, you still have to escape the ruins. If you fail to escape before the timer hits zero, you die. And you have to fight Mother all over again. The exits to the Surface are all blocked off so you need to find a new way out. I will show you. Head out to the right and you will appear at the top part of D-3. Climb up into D-2 and go right to E-2; make your way to the top of the room and back back left into D-2. Climb the ladder here to D-1. Go left into C-1; climb the rope up then take the ladder into the Endless Corridor. Go two screens left and the floor will break apart, allowing you to drop down, which returns you to the top level of the Endless Corridor. Go three screens right to H-4. Climb down the ladder into the Twin Labyrinths. Go right one screen into B-2; part of the ceiling will fall down to reveal a hidden coin chest. Grab the coins and return to the Mausoleum of the Giants. Go left back to E-4 and climb the ladder up to E-3. Head right to F-3, climb up a level and return to E-3. Take the top left exit from E-3 into D-3 and climb the ladder into D-2. Climb up from here into D-1. Go left two screens back to B-1, taking the top path through C-1. Climb up the ladder from B-1 into the Gate of Guidance. Go right into B-6 and take the ladder in the middle up to B-5. Take the ladder up to B-4 and jump across to take the right exit to C-4.
