Video Walkthrough ----------------------------------------------------------- Do you want to see a video of how to beat the game, rather than read how to do it? You're in luck! I made a video walkthrough for this game, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL- BD_KjCUmdw_JixwUORND5lC1hQiL9xf The videos come complete with my live commentary. 003. Walkthrough ----------------------------------------------------------- The game begins with Barbie and her friends inside the library. Becky gives Barbie a book and tells her to examine a shelf. This is your clue to go to the right. Right of the professor is a suspicious-looking shelf, and if you run the magnifying glass over the shelf, you see a green handprint there. You want to take the book out of the crime computer and use it on the shelf. This reveals a hidden passageway. Go through it to a small room. In the back of the room, behind the curtain, you find a tool and a painting piece. In the front of the room, you find a clue. All these things get added to the crime computer. Leave this small room and talk to the professor. At this point, Barbie needs to solve a painting puzzle. Over the course of the game, you solve three painting puzzles. There are four possible puzzles that you can get. The puzzles you get are chosen at random, at the start of the game. 1. The front desk puzzle, at the front desk. The tool for this is a small gray key, while the clues which lead you to the front desk are things like letters and postcards. To solve this puzzle, you want to unlock the gray box. You can then move the various boxes around to form a pattern. The pattern is on the guest book. Use the magnifying glass to see it. 2. The piano puzzle, in the ballroom. The tool for this is a yellow key, while the clues that lead you to the puzzle are things like sheet music. To solve this puzzle, use the key on the piano, so you can see the keys. There is a six note tune on the piano music stand. Use the magnifying glass to see it. Play the six notes in order. 3. The lighthouse puzzle. The tool for this is a black key, while the clues that lead you to this puzzle are things like a map and a globe stand. You want to use the key on the box in the lower/left. This gives you a series of letters. Press those letters on the globe, in the upper left to solve the puzzle. 4. The gazebo puzzle. The tool for this is a flower, while the clues which lead you to the gazebo are things like teacups and sugar. Sadly, most (if not all) copies of this game have a glitch, which causes the game to crash whenever you enter the gazebo. Since solving the gazebo puzzle is impossible, you'll have to restart the game, if you encounter it. --- After you solve the first puzzle, you get a piece of the painting! Next is a culprit chase. There are three possible chases: hang gliding, speedboats and beach cruisers. The clue for speedboats is a life vest, the clue for beach cruisers is a key, and the clue for hang gliding is a red helmet. Hang gliding happens next to the lighthouse, beach cruisers are on the beach, and the speedboats are on the boat deck. Go to the appropriate location to start a chase sequence. If you fail a chase sequence, the culprit runs away without dropping anything. Follow their footprints (using the magnifying glass) to initiate another chase sequence. The speedboat chase is two minutes long, starting from when Barbie begins talking. Press the mouse button to have Barbie drive her speedboat. If you go over a ramp, her speed increases a bit. If you hit one of the buoys, Barbie's speed drops down to her starting speed. You need to jump over five or so ramps in a row, to gain enough speed for Barbie to catch up with the culprit. At the end of two minutes, if you are close enough to the culprit (i.e. if the culprit is in your sight), then you win the challenge. The beach cruiser chase is much the same. It is two minutes long, starting from when Barbie begins talking. Press the mouse button to have Barbie drive her beach cruiser. If you go over a sand pile, her speed increases a bit. If you hit one of the rocks, flags or logs, Barbie's speed drops down to her starting speed. You need to jump over five or so piles in a row, to gain enough speed for Barbie to catch up with the culprit. At the end of two minutes, if you are close enough to the culprit (i.e. if the culprit is in your sight), then you win the challenge. Both the beach cruiser chase and the speedboat chase limit how far the culprit can be from Barbie. So if Barbie stays in place, the culprit will also stay in place. One way to take advantage of this is to have Barbie make seven jumps to gain a lot of speed, then stay in place for a while. Resume chasing the culprit, when there are fifteen seconds left in the challenge. Barbie will easily catch up to the culprit, since she's moving at top speed, and chasing the culprit for fifteen seconds is certainly easier than chasing them for two minutes. The hang glider challenge is a minute and a half, starting when Barbie begins speaking. With this challenge, you want to regularly go up and down, to avoid some air drafts. The drafts go left and right. If you get caught in one, left- click to escape from it. If you are too far away from the culprit, usually because a draft has taken you to the far side of the screen, the challenge automatically ends. The culprit flies in a random fashion for this challenge. Try your best to follow the culprit and keep them onscreen at all times. When you successfully solve a chase sequence, the culprit escapes, but they give you a tool for one of the four painting puzzles. Solve that puzzle, and the entire painting is completed. At this point, you have to solve a third painting puzzle. When you do, Barbie discovers that the culprit has stolen the treasure. Oh no! Barbie says you need to get a good look around, which is your clue to go to the lighthouse. Use the telescope in the lighthouse, and Barbie sees the culprit going somewhere. I recommend saving your game before doing this, because sometimes, there is a glitch which prevents this from happening. Quitting and reloading the game usually bypasses this glitch. After looking through the telescope, you want to go to the area where the culprit is. When I played the game, this was either the attic, the honeymoon suite, the greenhouse or the gameroom. Perhaps there are other places the culprit can hide. Either way, visit the correct area and search it to find a clue for another culprit chase. Let me use the honeymoon suite as an example. When Barbie uses the telescope, she might say "it looks like the thief is headed for the hotel!". Clues indicating the honeymoon suite, like a heart or a wedding invitation, will randomly pop up in the background. Go to the honeymoon suite and check all three hiding spots there: the closet, the rug and the locked box. Inside, is the culprit chase clue. The gameroom has a gear inside. You want to use that gear on the game here. Beat the game to open a hidden passage! Whenever I tried to enter the passage, the game crashed on me. The second culprit chase works just like the first one did. When you catch the culprit this time, the game ends. 004.
