The way I interpreted it was that the saying, “I have entered the abyss and never returned” is talking about the Animus's side effect. Part of his mind is trapped in his ancestor, and part of his ancestor is trapped in him. He entered the Animus, and most off him, is still there, trapped in time. 4. Do we know who the possible identity of the “unknown sender” that Vidic deleted the e-mail of? - After the events of Assassins’s Creed: Brotherhood, we find out that Subject 16 is still alive. It’s highly possible that it is him or it could be the current leader of the Assassins.
