Took Out Story Section ================================================== PLAYABLE CHARACTER’S INFO, ZE! ================================================== Kirisame Marisa/ Marisa Kirisame AKA the Black-White Thieving Magician/ Ordinary Black Magician Race: Human Occupation: Magician Appearance: Witch-like appearance in almost black color, the dress looks a bit like a maid’s clothing actually. Short, blond hair. Carries a broomstick around with her. Hobby: Reading and Researching new spells. Special Attacks: Master Spark, Non-Directional Laser, Final Spark, Double Spark, Final Master Spark, Stardust Reverie. Weapon (In this Game): Magic Cannon....uh, I mean MariBuster, a MegaBuster-like weapon without the Charge Shot ability Special Weapon (Also in this Game): Magic Broom, her broomstick. Extra Description: Enjoys reading a lot, to the point of stealing…I mean borrowing spell books from other characters like Patchouli and Alice. Doujinshi depict her ending her sentences with a ‘ze’ as an accent similar to Dejiko’s ‘nyo’. In MegaMari: Marisa no Yabou/ MegaMari: Marisa’s Ambition, she is the main character. Thus, she is the stronger one of the two. Most platformer veterans will feel at home with her. Also, most of the time, the weapons she receives from bosses are not very suited to fighting them. This makes Marisa with her Boss Weapons easier for going through the stage. Margatroid Alice/ Alice Margatroid AKA the Puppet/ Doll Mistress/ the Seven- Colored Puppeteer Race: Youkai(?) Occupation: Doll Manipulator Appearance: Short, blond hair. Blue and white dress with red ribbon around her neck. Always with her is either the cute Shanghai or Hourai doll. Hobby: Making and playing with dolls Special Attacks: Shanghai, Hourai, France, Holland, Tibetan, Kyoto, London, Russian, Orleans Dolls. Weapon (In this game): The Spectrum Mystery, a straight, long, continuous laser attack. Special Weapon (Also in this game): Shanghai, the more popular (in my opinion) and cuter of her two popular dolls. Extra Description: Enjoys plying with dolls. Always with her are usually two items: her dolls or her Grimourum (Spell book). Doujinshi always depict her trying to start a relationship with various characters, most notably Marisa, Patchouli and (uncommonly) Sakuya In Megamari: Marisa no Yabou/ MegaMari: Marisa’s Ambition, she is the secondary character. Thus, she is the weaker of the two. Her Spectrum Mystery (A laser attack using one of her dolls. You can’t really see it here though…) does only ½ damage compared to the MariBuster. The weapons Alice receives from bosses are, most of the time, best used against them. ================================================= TERMS USED, ZE! ================================================= I’ll be using quite a few terms from the Touhou games. Just in case this game is your first experience with Touhou, I’ll list out a short number of terms from the series and explain the meaning and its significance to this guide, ze. Danmaku – Bullet Nightmare/ Bullet Hell/ Bullet Curtain: The whole screen will be filled with bullets, around 85-90%, and it’s your job to dodge this bullets. The remaining 10% from the 100% of the screen is where you can dodge these bullets safely, but the only problem is they’re VERY close to the bullets themselves. They’ll also come in all shapes, sizes, patterns and colors. Extra – Extra: An extra stage that can be unlocked and played in the normal Touhou game. But the difficulty is extreme. Think of the hardest difficulty you can think of (In this case, Lunatic, search in YouTube for it) and add an extra difficulty. You’ll basically get Extra. Extra can be considered the hardest of the hardest in a Touhou game. It is second only to. . . . Phantasm – Lunatic Phantasm: Another extra stage that can be unlocked and played. This is rarer and much more difficult compared to Extra. Think of Extra and add 2 - 3 more difficulty to that, THAT’S Phantasm. In this game, the normal Phantasm boss from the Touhou series, an example would be Yukari. Spellcards – Think of them as magic spells or special attacks. When using/ declaring a spellcard, the user may be in a trance until the spellcard is broken or defeated. On the plus side, they get access to very powerful attacks. The desperations moves in this game are applied akin to these spellcards SDM – Scarlet Devil Mansion: the mansion where Remilia Scarlet, the Scarlet Devil lives with her family. NDL – Non-Directional Laser: One of Patchouli’s trademark attacks and one of the attacks that Marisa “stole”. Hitbox – Though it may not look like it, you seem to be able to dodge projectiles that pass through your head. They will only hurt if they hit your character’s stomach, where their hitbox is located. A hitbox, in the Touhou games, are your chracter’s weakness and they will lose a life ONLY if the hitbox is hit. ================================================= BOSS’ GUIDE, ZE! ================================================= I’ll start with the Boss Guide first. The layout will look something like this: Name: The Bosses’ name, of course! Stage Location: Where will you battle them in Gensokyo Arrangement: Where are they in the Boss Selection Menu Description: Appearance and other random things about them Attacks: Their attacks, names, and how to (perhaps) dodge them Desperation Move (DM): I know I stole this term from KOF but it’s the best term to describe it. This is the attack they use when their life is in critical condition, nyo! Collected weapon: What weapon you get from them if you collected their orbs as either Alice or Marisa Weakness: The weapons that can be used against them Special Notes: Special notes about the character or their field. Strategy: A brief explanation on their patterns and attacks. Now, on to the bosses:- ----------------- INITIAL 8 BOSSES ----------------- The Initial 8 are just that, Initial 8. These are the first 8 Bosses that you se and can face when you start this game for the first time. Taken from the Touhou series, most of them are composed of the master and their servant, with the exception of Cirno and Reimu-chan. Since this game is considerably tougher than the average platformer, the bosses here are considered to be of Final Boss level in the Touhou series at Normal-Hard mode. The exceptions are those I said the Toughest 3 of the Initial 8. Their difficulty are equivalent to the Fortress Bosses. Name: Hakurei Reimu AKA Red-White/ Wonderful Shrine Maiden of Paradise Stage Location: Hakurei Shrine Arrangement: Top-left. Description: Black hair, Shinto priest-like clothing. Attacks: Attack 1: Needle Stream - Reimu-chan will run towards you, shooting two streams of white needle-like projectiles at you. She’ll do this twice. Just jump to evade. Attack 2: Red Talisman – Reimu-chan will jump and shoot an array of talismans that will fly at a diagonal angle of 45 degrees. Stand away from her cards and look for an opening in her attack. Attack 3: Blue Talisman – Reimu-chan will jump and shoot an array of talismans, this time, flying 30 degrees to the bottom. Just look for an opening to evade. Attack 4: Homing Amulet - Reimu-chan will jump and launch an amulet that will home to you in a wave kind of direction. Attack 5: Red-Blue Unity “Infinity” – Reimu-chan will stand in one corner, throwing out red and blue talisman that will circle her before flying forwards in an Infinity symbol, slightly homing in on you. One of her harder attacks to evade, when the infinity symbol ends, the talismans will spread out very far. Stand very close to her before jumping forwards should enable you to barely evade it. Attack 6: Red-Blue Unity “Separation” – Reimu-chan will stand in one corner, before jumping and shooting out lots of red and blue talisman in a circle around her, with little to no space to dodge in between. A typical Danmaku attack, stand far from her and dodge the cards as the gaps will be larger then. Attack 7: Yin-Yang Orb – Reimu-chan will pray and a Yin-Yang orb will come out and bounce all around the field. If you got hit by it during the stage, you should know that this is one attack you’ll definitely want to stay away from. The orbs will bounce for a while before disappearing. Desperation Move(DM): Yin-Yang Strike: This is very similar to her Attack 7: Yin-Yang Orb, but she does this attack by launching continuous streams of orbs at you. There’s absolutely NO way to dodge this attack without taking any damage aside from finishing her off. Even if there is one, it would be hard to pull off and will take quite a bit of luck. When she resorts to this method, take her out as fast as you can as each orb does about 1/4 to 1/5 damage to you. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Yin-Yang Strike Alice: Homing Amulet Weakness: Marisa: Butterfly Stream – Yuyuko-sama’s weapon. Slightly slow to use, but is still usable. Be careful of the Reimu-chan’s orbs as the butterflies’ will be blocked. Marisa’s buster is good too. Alice: Reincarnation Ghost – Yuyuko-sama’s weapon. This is faster to use, and can be used for both characters. Reimu-chan will be damaged fast, but this will cause her to use her DM faster. Just like the Butterfly Stream, this attack cannot pass through her orbs. Strategy: Reimu-chan usually starts the battle with Needle Stream attack, followed by a Homing Amulet. Her attacks are not really hard to evade. Only, some of it can be complicated or damaging to do so, especially the orb. Use the Mushroom Tank you found in the stage if you have to. Personally speaking, Reimu was the first boss I took down. So, she may be a good way in gauging your skills against this game at the start. Name: Izayoi Sakuya AKA the Time-Stopping Maid/ Perfect and Elegant Maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion Stage Location: Scarlet Devil Roof Arrangement: Top-Right Description: White-hair, maid-like clothing, loves knives. Attacks: Attack 1: Knife Throw – Very similar to Reimu-chan’s Needle Stream attack, Sakuya-san will run towards you, throwing a horizontal row of 4 knifes at you that comes out slow at the beginning before flying of at normal speed. She’ll usually do this twice. Just jump to evade, similar to Reimu-chan’s Needle Stream Attack 2: Homing Knives – Sakuya-san will throw out blue knives that will then turn to green knives that fly in an angle. Just move around to dodge. Attack 3: Time Manipulation – Not really an attack, but Sakuya-san will disappear and reappear in a different place. This is due to her stopping your time as she moves from one area to another. Attack 4: Jack the Ripper – Sakuya-san will jump and throw 4-5 blue knives diagonally to the ground. Once hit, the knives will turn green and bounce of the ground in a 45 degrees angle. Again, just move around to evade. Attack 5: Strange Art “Misdirection” – Sakuya-san will again jump into the air, this time throwing 4 long red knives. Upon touching the ground, 2-3 blue portals will emerge and release a round of blue kunai-like weapons each all around in a clockwise pattern. This one is not so easy to evade. Desperation Move (DM): Maid Secret Skill “Killer Doll”: Very similar to her final Spell Card in “Embodiment of Scarlet Devil”/ Touhou Komakyou, Sakuya-san will jump into the air, shoot of lots of knives and that will fly in every direction. Quite easy to dodge despite it being a desperation move, but that’s just me. Things can get a little bit complicated though. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Thousand Knives Alice: Quicksilver Weakness: Marisa: Red Magic - Remilia’s weapon. Ironic, non’? It’s strong, but does damage the most damage overtime. Alice: Bloody Curse - Remilia’s, her mistresses’ weapon. It can do stack damage to her as long as she in the maximum range. Alternative: Buster, either Alice’s or Marisa’s. She’ll go down slowly but just as easily. Strategy: Personally, I wouldn’t mind having a pretty maid like Sakuya. In any case, as Head Maid, Sakuya-san has a lot of knives as you can see. She is also skilled in Time-Manipulation. Sakuya’s battle is very similar to that of a normal Danmaku game, in that you have to slowly move a lot to dodge most of her attacks. Small movements like quick tap on the directional keys, especially during her DM goes a long way in dodging her attacks. Reisen Udongein Inaba AKA Lunatic Moon Rabbit/ Moon Rabbit of Lunacy Stage Location: Eientei Bamboo Garden Arrangement: Bottom-Middle Description: Rabbit ears, red eyes, purple hair, business-like suit Attacks: Attack 1: Petal Shots – Reisen will jump and shoot 5 petals in a row 3 times. The first is directly towards you, the second and third will usually cause her to jump higher and shoot it down towards you. Run far way and jump the first wave. The second and third, just move around to dodge. She may occasionally add an extra wave. Attack 2: Illusion After-Image – Depending on which side of the screen she is, Reisen will make a short jump, leave an image, hop to the opposite top wall, leave another image, fly to the other wall, leave ANOTHER image and drop to the opposite bottom wall, before leaving one final image. Each of the images she leaves will shoot a short stream of bullets at you. This attack is considerably easy to dodge as you have quite a few safe spots; some of it includes the middle, as well as the sides. Just remember that she will land at the opposite wall of where she started, so make sure you’re not there when she lands. Attack 3: Mental Sacrifice – Reisen will jump and throw out 5 bombs that will explode for a short while. One of her harder to evade attacks; especially when coupled with other attacks. To dodge this, just run away from her or time your jump so that you can jump over her bombs and be in the air while the explosion’s still there. Attack 4: Psycho Missile – Reisen will jump and shoot a missile diagonally at you. The missiles will leave an *exploding* impression (In other words, the explosions stays for a while). Heavy damage, just run away to dodge. Attack 5: Spread Sign “Invisible Full Moon” – Reisen will jump in the air and unleash a circle of petals around her, similar to this Spell Card with the exception they don’t turn invisible. She usually does this twice in a row. Just run away from her and look for an opening to dodge. Desperation Move (DM): Triple Psychos: This is very similar to her Psycho Missile attack; however, she shoots THREE at a time at a faster rate. Finish her quickly to lessen the damage you take. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Psycho Missile Alice: Mental Sacrifice Weakness: Marisa: Ghost Cutter – Youmu-chan’s weapon, I wonder why……… Some dodging is needed to wield this weapon effectively against Reisen, as compared to the Rolling Slash; this weapon does slightly less damage. Alice: Rolling Slash – Youmu-chan’s weapon. No need for dodging when using this one. Just constantly attack her. She’ll most likely go down before you do. Apparently, Homing Amulet’s homing capabilities works decently against her as well, having the role of both decoy for Reisen’s projectiles and offense method. Strategy: Reisen is an average boss, but 2 of her attacks are quite damaging: Mental Sacrifice (Attack 3) and Psycho Missile (Attack 4). He DM is also quite dangerous. Reisen’s moving mentality is similar to that of a rabbit: she likes to jump a lot. Due to this, she sometimes can change her pattern of attacks quite fast. It can also be a bit confusing since most of her attacks involve her jumping beforehand before using the actual thing. Reisen can be difficult without her Weakness Weapon, but it IS possible to beat her without it. Name: Cirno AKA 9Ball Cirno/ Ice Fairy/ Youkai of the Lake Stage Location: Misty Lake Arrangement: Top-Middle Description: Bluish-hair, blue clothing with wings, loves frogs. Attacks: Attack 1: Icicle Vulcan – Cirno will shoot 6 long icicles at various heights at you. As of time of writing, no known method to dodge this effectively yet. Attack 2: White Rose Cluster – Unlike yours, Cirno’s version starts of VERY large. You only have around 3 seconds before she launches it. Quite a damaging attack, slide and jump your way over it. Attack 3: Ice Shards – Cirno will jump and shoot a large number of small ice shards at you. Depending on how wide her shots are spread, you should be able to jump above her attack. Attack 4: Icicle Fall (Easy) – Her most common attack in the Touhou game series, Icicles will constantly grow on the ceiling and fall down. There are about 7 set spots where the icicles will grow. Just don’t stand in those spots to dodge this attack. Desperation Move (DM): Icicle Fall (Lunatic) – Truth be told, I don’t even know if she has one. But, my Touhou-Fanatic Friend tells me that her DM consists of her Attack 4 growing and falling down at you faster. She seems to be encouraging the icicles by throwing something to the ceiling. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Ice Vulcan Alice: White Rose Cluster Weakness: Marisa: Psycho Missile - Reisen’s weapon. Heat beats ice. Just shoot it whenever you get the chance. The explosion left behind will do additional damage. Alice: Mental Sacrifice - Reisen’s weapon. Bombs technically give out heat. Wider range compared to the Psycho Missile, but lesser damage. The explosion does do additional damage, though. Special Notes: The ground is icy. Be aware of that. Strategy: Cirno is infamously known throughout the Touhou community as an idiot and the number 9. Most fan doujins portray her depending on attacks that are considerably simple or sometimes really obvious to dodge. In other words, most of her attacks are very easy to dodge and Cirno herself has been considered an easy boss to start the game with. At the start of the battle, Cirno may either just jump at you or use Attack 3. If she stays there, she may use her Attack 1. Regardless which, keep using a lot of Psycho Missiles or Mental Sacrifice if you got them and she’ll go down pretty quick (In fact, my first time battling her using Psycho Missile, she went down so quick I never really noticed until the battle ended.) Name: Remilia Scarlet AKA the Scarlet Devil/ Eternally Young Scarlet New Moon Stage Location: Scarlet Devil Mansion Inner Sanctum Arrangement: Left Description: Dark blue hair, a red-colored dress. Wings at the back. Attacks: Attack 1: High Speed Scarlet – Remilia will jump to one corner and zigzag back to the ground at high speed. She moves so fast, she leaves a stream of stationary bullets in her trail that stays for a short while. She pauses for a short while after every line. Attack 2: Bat Style – Remilia will split into a dozen or so bats in every direction that will group back together in the very spot you’re standing. The bats are considered as projectiles. Jump look for the side with the least bats and jump over them. Attack 3: Scarlet Destiny – Remilia will jump and hang upside-down to one of the two platforms you can see before dropping down to the ground, unleashing 5 Red Magic in 5 different directions upon impact with the ground. Attack 4: Scarlet Magic – Remilia will shoot out 4 large red orbs followed by a trail of small bullets from 4 directions. Attack 5: Dark Sign “Scarlet Netherworld” – Remilia will jump and release 3 circles of red bullets, 2 circles overlapping one another and the third slightly further out. One circle will turn clockwise, the other counter. All three circles will expand till they cover most of the area. Attack 6: Scarlet Sign “Scarlet Shoot” – Remilia will jump and hang upside-down to one of the two platforms and shoot a lot of projectile of various sizes in random directions. Look for an opening to evade. Desperation Move (DM): Scarlet Gensokyo – Remilia will jump into the air and release 4-5 large red orbs in every direction. The orbs will leave a trail of smaller red bullets in their wake. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Red Magic Alice: Bloody Curse Weakness: Marisa: Yin-Yang Strike - Reimu’s weapon. Holy weapon against an unholy creature. Does quite a heavy damage, just difficult to aim and hit. Alice: Homing Amulet - Reimu’s weapon. Chinese “vampires” are usually weak against amulets. Does less damage compared to the Orb, but it homes in on to the really speedy Remilia. Special Note: There are two unreachable platforms in her stage. They’re for complimenting Remilia’s attacks. When using her Attack 1, she’ll never start from above these platforms. She’ll also hang upside-down from one of these platforms before launching Attack 3. Strategy: As you can see from her attack, I would consider her to be the most random attacker in this game. One of her strongest traits is that she’s quite speedy. Luckily, her weakness weapons are effective against her, so spam them. Name: Saigyouji Yuyuko-sama AKA the Ghost Princess/ Glutton/ Innocent, Dreaming Ghostly Girl in the Netherworld Tower from the Calamitous Nirvana Stage Location: Hakugyokoro Shrine Arrangement: Bottom-Left Description: Blue clothing, a headband with a ghost insignia. Usually is followed around by 2-3 spirits. Attacks: Attack 1: Reincarnation Ghost – Yuyuko-sama will summon 4 ghosts that will circle around her before moving off. They seems to have 2 different movement patterns depending on where Yuyuko-sama’s position. Her first pattern is the shield will linger for a while before circling off in your direction, expanding as they move. Just time well and run in between her ghosts. This pattern is usually done when she’s not of the same level with you. Her second pattern is when she’s on the same level (ie. ground level), the shield will circle off in the direction Yuyuko-sama’s facing. The shield will not expand in this pattern. You’ll have to jump over this pattern in a similar way how you dodge Reimu’s attack 5: Red-Blue Unity Infinity. No matter what pattern, this attack is not overly difficult to dodge by itself. The ghosts will block all your attacks. Attack 2: Butterfly Stream – Yuyuko-sama will throw out 2 rounds of 4 butterflies into the air. Unlike yours, these will fly off-screen before falling down slowly as the Blue Spirits that you encountered on the way here. Just move a bit to dodge. As I said before, not overly difficult to dodge by itself. Attack 3: Perfect Cherry Blossom – Yuyuko-sama will move from one end to the other end of the screen will shooting out Sakura (Cherry Blossom) petals in all directions. A bit complicated, but still not overly difficult to dodge either by itself. Attack 4: Losing Hometown “Lost Soul’s Village” – Yuyuko-sama will float on the left side of the screen before shooting 2 damaging laser one after another at your direction before teleporting to the right side, doing the same. Very easy to dodge, just keep moving. Don’t stop. Desperation Move (DM): Cherry Blossom Sign “Perfect Cherry Blossom of Sumizome” – Yuyuko-sama will appear and float in the middle of the screen. While in this mode, Cherry petals will constantly emerge and fall and Yuyuko-sama will use her Attack 4, Losing Hometown “Lost Soul’s Village”, constantly at you. However, the lasers move at a faster pace and come out more often as well as both lasers being shot at the same time. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Butterfly Stream Alice: Reincarnation Ghost Weakness: Marisa: Black Lotus - Eirin’s weapon. Faster and easier to aim compared to Force Crisis, but less damage Alice: Force Crisis - Eirin’s weapon. Slightly harder to aim compared to Black Lotus, but is much more effective. Special Note: Yuyuko-sama enjoys teleporting around the stage a lot. She’ll teleport to 3 different levels of height, from the ground, to just above your head, to high up close to the ceiling. She’ll throw her attacks from each of these heights Strategy: She has a liking for both butterflies and cherry blossoms, as you can see. Also, she’s the mistress of Youmu-chan. As I mentioned earlier, her attacks are not overly hard to evade by ITSELF. I stress on the word because Yuyuko-sama attacks really fast, using all of her attack one after another. In a battle against her, you’ll find yourself having to evade attack 1, 2 AND 3 at the same time. Yuyuko-sama is one of the many bosses in this game that defines the very term “Danmaku” in this game. In my opinion, Yuyuko-sama is one of the three toughest bosses of the Initial 8 Bosses, but only if you don’t have her weakness weapon. Even then, she’s still kinda tough since her Attack 1 will usually be able to block all of your attacks. Name: Konpaku Youmu-chan AKA Hakugyokoro’s Gardener/ The Half-Human Half-Ghost Gardener Stage Location: Hakugyokoro Shrine Doorstep near the Sanzu river Arrangement: Right Description: White hair, green clothing, Carries two swords. Followed around by one large spirit. Attacks: Attack 1: Dash-Slash – One of the most basic attack in the game, as well as non-projectile attack, Youmu-chan will run around and try to slash at you with her Roukanken sword. Though basic, this is one of the fastest attacks in the game, since Youmu-chan moves at an impressive speed, rivaling Remilia. (And I consider Remilia to be one of the fastest moving boss in the game.) Attack 2: Brute Sword "Karmic Punishment of the Idle and Unfocused" - Youmu-chan will jump and shoot 3 barrages of projectiles; 2 barrage from straight and 1 from above you. The one above will semi-home in on you. Attack 3: Ghost Cutter – Youmu-chan swings her sword, creating a tall, vertical crescent wave forward that flies forward about half the screen. The wave will block all projectiles. It does not dispel laser attack though, so Alice’s Mystery Spectrum will pierce through it. Just stay far a way from her to dodge. If not, just find for a high place and jump over or a low area for it to graze above your head. Attack 4: Rolling Slash – Youmu-chan will do a spin in the air, filled with red spiritual energy. Her easiest attack to dodge, just stay away from her. Attack 5: Double Ghost Cutter – Similar to her Attack 3, but Youmu-chan releases 2 of this, back and forward, which flies further till the end of the screen and slightly faster. She usually does this after her Rolling Slash attack. Just dodge it like you were dodging her Ghost Cutter, but you cannot stay away from her projectiles this time. You’ll have to find a way to jump over them or let them fly above you. Desperation Move (DM): Hell Realm Sword "200 Yojana in 1 Slash” – Youmu-chan’s spiritual body will do an attack similar to this Spell Card minus the slash. But she will attack during it. Her Spiritual Half (She’s half-ghost, by the way) that you see constantly following her will fly toward the middle top of the screen and will continue to shoot large round projectiles in every direction in a clock-wise pattern. Not really hard to dodge. But it compliments Youmu-chan’s lack of projectile attacks and is usually meant as a distraction for Youmu’s other attacks. It does do quite a substantial amount of damage however. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Ghost Cutter Alice: Rolling Slash Weakness: Marisa: Thousand Knives - Sakuya’s weapon. Knives vs. Swords? Try to use sparingly as you only get 4 shots at most. After 4 rounds of this, she’ll launch her desperation attack. Alice: Quicksilver - Sakuya’s weapon. See above comment. Easier to use due to the low Star Power consumption. Special Note: Youmu-chan has 2 different fields when you battle. Her first field is a little more complicated for battling her. Her second field is easier. Strategy: Youmu-chan!!! My favorite Touhou character and one of the three toughest bosses of the Initial 8 Bosses. Youmu-chan has a combo I like to call “Spiritual Extinction”. This combo involves her doing her Attack 4: Rolling Slash before going into Attack 5: Double Ghost Cutter. She loves to do this combo a lot, so beware. Being a melee opponent, her attacks hurt a lot more than certain bosses. She’s also quite fast, so you have to be aware of that. Name: Yagokoro Eirin AKA Kaguya’s Guardian/ Ex-Emissary of the Moon/ Brain of the Moon Stage Location: Eientei Mansion Arrangement: Bottom-Right Description: Silver hair, reddish-purple nurse-like outfit, seems to carry a Med-Kit/red bow (weapon) around with her. Attacks: Attack 1: Arrow Barrage – Eirin will shoot a few arrows above that will rain down upon the field in a 3-9 or 9-3 (On the clock) pattern. Attack 2: Forbidden Arcanum “Hourai Elixir” – Eirin will jump and throw 3 globs of green projectiles that will slowly float towards you. They can be destroyed. Attack 3: Black Lotus – Eirin will jump across the screen will shooting 4 arrows to both sides of the screen. These 4 arrows will turn into orbs upon touching the sides and will then roll down following the ground to reach the centre of the field. Easy enough to evade on its own, difficult when Eirin’s other attacks are on screen. Attack 4: Force Crisis – Eirin will shoot 1 arrow to the top of the screen from the centre of the field. After that, one large orb-like projectile will slowly float down the screen. Just move to evade it. Desperation Move (DM): Meteor Storm – Similar to Attack 4, Eirin will shoot 1 arrow to the top of the screen from the centre of the field. After that, large orb-like projectiles will slowly float down the screen all over the field. Just move to evade it. Eirin herself will start to use the Hourai Elixir and Black Lotus attacks more often. Collected Weapon: Marisa: Black Lotus Alice: Force Crisis Weakness: Marisa: Ice Vulcan - Cirno’s weapon. The greatest enemy of Medicine is the Common Cold. You’ll take her down fast an easy as long as you managed to aim at her. Alice: White Rose Cluster - Cirno’s weapon. See above comment. Charging this attack right next to her will do MASSIVE damage. Special Notes: Her field is slightly uneven; both sides creating a multi-level crater in the middle. This makes it slightly harder to dodge her Black Lotus attack. Strategy: Yagokoro Eirin, Kaguya’s guardian, fake Final Boss of Imperishable Night (Touhou Eiyashu), one of the 3 most difficult bosses of the Initial 8 bosses. Technically speaking, Eirin can be either easy or difficult. A combination of her Arrow Barrage attack times 3 + double Black Lotus + Hourai Elixir is not pretty. And she can attack pretty fast. Luckily, her Hourai Elixir projectiles can be destroyed, thus lessening the attack you’ll have to dodge. --------------------------------- PATCHOULI (PATCHU) CASTLE BOSSES --------------------------------- Most of the bosses are equivalent to, in my opinion, Extra or Phantasm bosses. This is further proofed judging from the fact that all the bosses here has either been an Extra or a Phantasm boss in the Touhou series. The only exception is Shikieki who was only a Final Boss. They’re much more difficult compared to the Initial 8 and seem to take lesser damage from your starting weapons. Name: Yakumo Yukari AKA Sukima no Yukari/ Youkai of the Boundary Stage Location: Patchu Castle Stage 1 Arrangement: Middle Description: Blond hair, white clothing with a trigram in the middle with a yin-yang symbol. Attacks: Attack 1: Boundary Manipulation – Yukari may hide or emerge from her boundary. Her emergence is depicted with a blue barrier-like sphere surrounding her. Attack 2: Energy Beyond the Boundary - Yukari will throw a large (Around the size of a fully charged White Rose Cluster), slow moving ball of energy at you. Use the moving platforms to your advantage in dodging this attack. Heavy damage Attack 3: Shikigami Summon “Chen” and “Yakumo Ran” – Yukari will summon Ran and Chen from the boundary to attack you. Attack 3.5: Oni God “Soaring Guardian God” and Shikigami “Dakini's Heavenly Possession” – Both Ran and Chen will move around for a while before spinning in either clockwise or counter-clockwise pattern around Yukari while shooting bullets at you. Ran’s will be more and faster while Chen’s less and slower. They will spin around for at least one round around Yukari before spinning in place and then fly in towards you. Moderate to heavy damage. Avoiding this will be highly dependent on the field’s position. Use the Reincarnation Ghost, if you have it, to shoot them down to lessen the amount of bullets you’ll have to dodge. Yukari will bring them back from beyond the boundary again though. Chen needs less damage to take down compared to Ran, so go for her first. Desperation Move (DM): None as I can see. She’s already tough as it is. Collected Weapon: None Weakness: Marisa: Red Magic. Remilia’s weapon. Alternatively, Butterfly Stream Alice: Bloody Curse. Remilia’s weapon. Alternatively, Reincarnation Ghost or Force Crisis Special Note: The platform you see upon beginning the battle will start to fall down. After that, a lot of blocks will start to appear, coming in from all directions, either vertically or horizontally. Strategy: Special note about her: she’s not always available for you to hit. Also, her field is one of the toughest fields as it’s constantly moving over a large hole. Combine together with the fact the you have the possibility to collide with her attack makes this one of the most frustrating battles in this game. This is one of the toughest battles in the game. Yukari follows a VERY strict attack pattern: Emerge from boundary, Attack 2, hide in boundary, Attack 3, Attack 3.5, rinse, repeat. In other words, she will emerge from her boundary an estimation of every 20 seconds and stays in that state for 3 before hiding again. Knowing her pattern gives you an advantage of estimating when she will attack. Try to get in a suitable position every time she emerges to get in a hit or 2. Bloody Curse is a good choice as you can shoot it from anywhere, even diagonally. Use the Reincarnation Ghost or any other weapon to get rid of the shikigamis as fast as possible to make this battle easier. You may need to use a Star Tank in this battle. Yukari can be difficult or easy, it really depends on how good you are. Name: Suika Ibuki AKA the Party-Loving Oni/ Forgatherer of Dreams, Illusions and Pandemonium Stage Location: Patchu Castle Stage 2 Arrangement: Middle Description: Long horns, fairly small size, a gourd by her side. Attacks: Normal-Form: She can’t be harm in this form. They’ll all move in one direction to slowly form her Atlas form opposite from where they entered. Based on the size of the characters in the game, this is Suika’s normal game size. Attack 1: Flying Suika – Mini-Suikas will fly in to the screen from either the left or the right side on 4 different rows. Just jump the bottom 3 rows and don’t move from your spot for the highest position. Attack 2: Jumping Suika – Mini-Suikas will jump in from the left or the right side of the screen at different speed and heights. Just slowly run through the high ones, while dodging the low ones. When approaching the last 3, just dash through. Attack 3: Running Suika – Mini-Suika’s hardest-to-evade attack yet, Mini-Suikas will run in from either the left or right side of the screen at different speeds. Just jump to avoid. Due to the huge difference in running speed, it’s kinda tough to evade all of the Mini-Suikas. You will take some damage from this attack. Atlas-Form: You can only harm her in this form. If you’ve played any of the Touhou fighting games before, this is otherwise known as her “Missing Purple Power” form Attack 1: Colossal Crush – Atlas-Suika will jump towards your position. Just move around to evade. Attack 2: Throwing of the Rock Door – Atlas-Suika will grab a huge boulder from the ground and throw it at your position. Just jump to affect the boulder’s trajectory and evade. Attack 3: Great Oni “Missing Purple Power” – Atlas-Suika will do a position very similar to an attack (a rolling punch seems to be a better description) from this Spell Card from “Immaterial & Missing Power” with the exception that she shoots out projectiles in every direction as well. Just go as far away from her as possible and look for an opening to evade. In-Between Form: She’s just switching forms from Atlas to Normal/ Mini Attack 1: Suika Split – Atlas Suika will split into Mini-Suikas that will fly in all direction. She does this immediately after every Atlas attack. To evade, look at Attack 3 of her Atlas Form. Desperation Move (DM): None as I can see, ze Collected Weapon: None Weakness: Marisa: Butterfly Stream. Alternatively, Yin-Yang Orb Alice: Reincarnation Ghost Strategy: Ain’t she one cute Oni(Demon)? :P Suika always starts the battle by using Attack 1 of her Normal Mini form, coming in from the left side of the screen. After that, she’ll have a very interesting attack pattern where she goes from big to small to big to small again. Most of her attacks are quite easy to evade, except Attack 3 of her normal, mini form: Running Suika. That attack is slightly tougher to dodge. Without using the weakness weapon, Suika’s actually quite tough, but not impossible to beat. Name: Copy Marisa AKA Ordinary Black Magician copy. Stage Location: Patchu Castle Stage 3A (Super Marisa Land) Arrangement: Middle Description: Looks exactly like Marisa Attacks: Attack 1: Run Shot – Copy Marisa will run at you and shoot. Just jump to dodge. Average damage. Now you know how much your MariBuster hurt. Attack 2: - Jump Shoot – Slightly tougher than her first attack, Copy Marisa will now jump and shoot 2 shots, 1 shot high while the second shot is low. Average damage. She may occasionally choose to shoot both shots high. Desperation Move (DM): Mushroom Power-Up: A big, red, skinny Mushroom drops from the Ceiling onto her. She’s then power up to her second form, Super Marisa. Collected Weapon: None Weakness: Marisa: Red Magic. Heavy damage Alice: She doesn’t appear here. Alternative: Black Lotus does quite decent damage. The MariBuster works as well. Special Notes: She launches into Desperation Mode at 1/2 life compared to other bosses Strategy: Copy Marisa can be a pain or otherwise. She’s easy enough to be tough. She’s a pain because her second form is much tougher and hits harder than the first. So, you’ll want to save at least ½ your life. She fights exactly the same as you using the MariBuster but the 2 advantage she has over you is that 1: She can collide into you, you can’t. You’ll just take damage and 2: She’ll power up once you chipped enough of her life. Name: Super Marisa Stage Location: Patchu Castle Stage 3A (Super Marisa Land) Arrangement: Middle Description: If Marisa in this game looked childish, this is her grown-up form. She towers over you, around Atlas Suika’s height. Attacks: Attack 1: Jump-Crush – Super Marisa will jump up into the ceiling, coming back down later directly above you to try and crush you. Just move away from that spot to evade. Attack 2: Falling Blocks – Not really an attack, but an after-effect caused by Attack 1. About 4-5 blocks will drop randomly from the Ceiling (Is there even a ceiling here?!!) Just move in between the block to evade it. They seem to block your Psycho Missile, or any of your Special Weapons for that matter. Attack 3: Master Spark (!?) – Marisa’s signature attack, Super Marisa will charge up for a while before unleashing a really huge laser horizonly at you. Very heavy damage. Just stand on ground level to evade. Attack 4: Blazing Star (!!?) – Super Marisa will begin running towards you in an attempt to crush you, similar this Spell Card minus the broom. Just jump on the blocks of Attack 2 to gain enough height to jump over her to dodge this. Alternatively, if you’re quick enough, use the Magic Broom for extra height. Desperation Move (DM): She already is one :P Collected Weapon: None Weakness: Marisa: Psycho Missile, Reisen’s weapon. Very effective, you’ll need only 4-5 well-placed shots. Alice: She doesn’t appear here. Alternative: MariBuster or Red Magic or Butterfly Stream all does moderate damage. Special Note: Her battle music changes to that of Super Marisa Land if I’m not mistaken. Strategy: Super Marisa is the second part of Marisa’s boss battle. As you can see, she’ll attempt to crush you at every moment, so always be ready. One of her most common pattern is to use attack 1, then 2 then 3 or 4 one after another, usually. She may not follow this pattern occasionally. The blocks from her Attack 2 will only be dangerous when they appear to fall on you. After that, you’re free to move through the blocks as if they’re not there. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, the block will block your Psycho Missile so you can’t shoot her while she’s doing the Spark. Use Psycho Missile at every opportunity possible. You have one free shot in just after she transforms to this form but before she does Attack 1. If you’re good at evading her attack, she’ll fall just as easy if you’re using the MariBuster. Name: Shikieki Yamaxanadu AKA the Doom Judge/ Highest Judge of Paradise Stage Location: Patchu Castle Stage 3B Arrangement: Middle Description: Greenish-hair, blue officer-like clothing. Has a white hat with gold emblem in front. She has her own court room. Attacks: Attack 1: Charge of Virtue – Shikieki summons 1-4 pillar-like projectiles from the sky to fall on you. The pillars will then slowly sink into the ground. Just move around to evade. Attack 2: Stream Petal – Shikieki will shoot 3 long continuous streams of petals at you. Her pattern begin similar to a ‘T’ shape as the top and bottom stream will close in while her middle stream is directly at you. Stay for a while to affect the middle stream’s trajectory before moving a little so that you’re in between a safe spot to dodge this attack. Attack 3: Guilt Sign “Wandering Sin” Lvl 3 – Shikieki will summon 3 rounds of black knife-like projectiles in clockwise direction that expand from around her. The projectiles will then slowly fly of the screen. A little hard to evade, due to the small safe zone in between the projectiles, but not impossible. Just move to the edge of the screen and find a safe zone to evade them. Attack 4: Verdict “Guilty” – Shikieki will bring out her hand and shoot constant groups of 3-5 red and blue projectiles that will circle her in a clock-wise direction 3 times. Just like Wandering Sin, moving to the most left side of the screen will make the bullets spread out thus giving you the chance to find a safe zone to evade them. Attack 5: Ferry to the Higan – A danger sign will flash twice on one side of the screen. Shikieki will then summon her subordinate, the shinigami (Death God) Komachi, to attack you by mysteriously using her boat to bounce into you. Her boat has a bouncing pattern. Just look for a time where her boat is at the lowest point of the bounce and then quickly jump above her to evade. Desperation Move (DM): None as I can see. Collected Weapon: None Special Notes: Shikeiki is one of the few bosses that will stay in place. Also, you fight her in a courtroom, with Fairies and WhiteBalls (FOEs) acting as her Audience and Jury. The fairies will constantly shoot at you while the WhiteBalls will jump out and try to run into you. Weakness: Marisa: She doesn’t appear here. Alice: Rolling Slash. Just attack, don’t care about your damage. Alternative: Shanghai is a good alternative if you’re willing to sacrifice a Star Tank or a Mega Tank. Bloody Curse does stack damage as long as you’re in position. You may have to make do with Mystery Spectrum if you have neither weapon. Strategy: She’s actually kinda tough without her weakness weapon. There are almost no alternative weapons that Shikieki may be weak against other than the Rolling Slash. Her Mystery Spectrum (Alice’s laser shot) does too little damage to be of good help here. However, it will be your most decent way of actually damaging her without being in too much of a dangerous position yourself. This means that intense dodging will be needed. I did the most extensive research on her and all weapon that come from the top (Mental Sacrifice, Force Crisis) will bounce of her “roof”. Spiritual Weapons (Reincarnation Ghost) will bounce of her. Both the Homing Amulet and White Rose Cluster do less damage compared to her Mystery Spectrum. I haven’t tried her battle with QuickSilver (Sakuya- san’s weapon) yet so I cannot confirm this as of now. However, this shows that there are only a few weapons that can actually hurt her (Maybe this is to make up the fact that she won’t move). Patchu Castle Stage 4 All Initial 8 Bosses Rematch. + Name: Patchouli Knowledge AKA Head-Librarian/ the Shadow Witch/ the Girl of Knowledge and Shadow/ the One-Week Witch/ the Unmoving Great Library Stage Location: Her Library in her new Fortress Arrangement: Middle Description: Purple night-gown type clothing, star and moon ornaments all around her head. Purple hair. Attacks: Attack 1: Non-Directional Laser – Patchu will shoot out 4 lasers in a cross pattern that will turn first clockwise then anti-clockwise. Just stand in between the lasers to dodge. But as the lasers are moving, you’ll have to move as well. Just make sure you have enough space to move and you’ll be fine. She sometimes does this in the air as well Attack 2: Metal Wood Sign “Elemental Harvester” – Patchu will jump and float in the air, before summoning 8 saw blades that will circle towards you, 4 blades clockwise, 4 counter-clockwise. Just look for an opening and quickly move. Attack 3: Fire Metal Sign “St Elmo’s Pillar” – Patchu will shoot 2 fireballs that will explode into a pillar each when they hit the ground. Attack 4: Water Sign “Deluge Forty Days” – I don’t know why I’ve never faced this card before (and I’ve faced her quite a number of times) until I saw some YouTube videos that had this attack. Patchu will jump and shoot out 3 bubbles that seem to bounce around trying to hit you, somewhat similar to Reimu-chan’s Yin-Yang Orb attack. And just like the orbs, they will disappear after a while. Seems easy enough to dodge, but harder if coupled together with her other attacks. Attack 5: Wood Sign “Slyphae Horn” – Another attack I’ve never faced before, like her Water Sign. This attack seems to remind of Eirin’s Arrow Barrage attack, however, the bullets fall like leaves from the ceiling; which makes me certain that this is indeed her “Sylphae Horn”. Small movements and taps on the Movement keys should be able to dodge this. Desperation Move (DM): None as I can see unless escaping to one of her machines counts as one? Collected Weapon: None Weakness: Marisa: The MariBuster seems to work. Ghost Cutter may do some damage to her. Alice: Rolling Slash is the best weapon you have for this battle. Use this and she’ll go down fast. Special Notes: For some odd reason, you seem to be able to skip this part of the battle. She also doesn’t seem to have a lifebar. Strategy: For some odd reason, you seem to be able to skip this part of the battle. Patchu is a worthy final boss, even if she escapes to her machines very quickly. The first thing most people will point out is her lack of a lifebar. Do not panic. Just attack her with all her weakness weapon non-stop and
she’ll go down fast.

Name: Patchouli Machine

Description: Patchouli in a large teapot-like machine. Similar to Dr. Wily’s
first form from Megaman 1

Attacks:

Attack 1: Petal Storm – Patchu Machine will shoot out a lot of petals
that will fly towards the other side of the screen in a pattern. Dodge
this like how you dodged Sakuya-san’s desperation attack, Maid Secret
Skill “Killing Doll”: slowly but carefully.

Attack 2: Focus Gale – Patchu Machine will shoot out 3 waves-like
projectiles that will semi-home in on your position.

Attack 3: Fire Sign “Agni Shine” – Patchu Machine will shoot 4-6
fireballs at your position. The fireballs will leave a short lasting
explosion similar to Reisen’s attacks.

Desperation Move (DM):

	None

Collected Weapon:

	None

Weakness:

Marisa: Psycho Missile puts the “o” in “ouch”.

Alice: Mental Sacrifice should work. Rolling Slash could be an
alternative.

Special Note:

Once beaten, you will immediately proceed to Phase 2.

Strategy:

This battle is very fast. Patchu Machine’s attacks are very damaging and
you’ll find yourself out in less than 5 seconds if you’re not careful. On
the other hand, she’s quite weak to her weakness weapon meaning that you
can take her out just as fast.

Name: Patchouli Machine Phase 2 (Damaged)

Description: Reminds you of a teapot. Similar to the first form, but Patchu is
visible this time.

Attacks:

Attack 1: Gale Tsunami – Patchu Machine will shoot out around 8 wave-like
projectiles, similar to Attack 2 from her first form, in an expanding
pattern (They come out from one spot and expand to fill the area), moving
in a somewhat clockwise direction. Just move to the corner and look for
an opening to evade this attack.

Attack 2: Bullet Barrage – From the same spot she shot out Attack 1,
Patchu Machine will shoot a group of 5 bullets at you in a fan-like
pattern. Just like most attacks in this game that expands as they fly
further away from point of origin, do the same with this attack to dodge
it easy. May be a bit hard if Patchu Machine has other attacks out as
well.

Attack 3: Wood & Fire Sign “Forest Blaze” – Patchu Machine will drop out
4 - 6 red bomb-like projectiles on the ground that will linger for a
while before exploding in a blaze of glory. Just stand in between the
bombs to evade.

Desperation Move (DM):

	None

Collected Weapon:

	None

Weakness:

Marisa: Butterfly Stream should work. As it’s an armoured machine, Psycho
Missiles seems to work as well.

Alice: Reincarnation Ghost. Alternatively, Force Crisis

Strategy:

Technically speaking, all her attacks in this form somewhat similar to
her first phase. The only different is that the attacks are now much
faster, larger, deadlier and more powerful and have different patterns
than the first. And also, unfortunately, this is not the final battle as
Patchu will escape in her saucer as the machine explodes.

This battle will be just as fast-paced as with the first form. You may
need to use a Mushroom Tank for this if you took too much damage from her
first form. Phase 2’s attacks are not really hard to evade by themselves.
But, this battle will be a bit faster than normal that you’ll sometime
find yourself facing the same attack in 2-seconds interval.

As with most machine/ armored enemies you encountered during the game,
the Reincarnation Ghost will bounce off for most part of the machine, the
only vulnerable weakness would be Patchu herself.

Patchu Castle Stage 5

Name: Patchouli Saucer

Stage Location: Her Library Fortress’s Inner Sanctum

Arrangement: Middle

Description: A flying saucer

Attacks:

Attack 1: Non-Directional Laser V2 – Patchu Saucer will shoot out 4
lasers in a ‘X’ pattern that will first spin in clockwise then counter-
clockwise pattern. Just dodge it like how you dodge the first NDL. The
only difference here is that V2 is much larger than the original.

Attack 2: Circle Laser – Patchu Saucer will shoot a circle of 4 lasers
that will spin clockwise in your direction while quickly expanding. Just
slowly move in between the gaps to evade.

Attack 3: Laser Stream – Patchu Saucer will float linger for a while
before shooting down a vertical laser that will shoot horizontally in
both the left and right direction at different levels of height. You
should be able to dodge this attack by a matter of simple timing and
jump.

Desperation Move (DM):

	None

Collected Weapon:

	None

Weakness:

Marisa: Black Lotus works. Also, is it just me, or is Butterfly Stream
just as effective if not better? AA attack, I understand but...

Alice: Rolling Slash is all you need. Nuff’ said.

Special note:

Just like Yuyuko-sama, Patchu Saucer too enjoys teleporting around the
stage a lot. It will teleport to 3 different levels of height, throwing
attacks from each of these heights

Strategy:

For some odd reason, you seem to be able to skip this part of the battle.

Just like most aerial enemies, Patchu Saucer can be taken down quick with
some well-placed AA shots like the Black Lotus. When you can reach, the
Rolling Slash is also just as effective. Once you take it down, enjoy
it’s attempt to escape as you prepare for the final battle.

Name: Mecha Pathcouli

Arrangement: Middle

Description: A Mech that looks somewhat similar (though humorously) to Patchu.
According to her extracted sprite, it actually has legs hidden below the
ground.

Attacks:

Attack 1: Round Hammer – Mecha Patchu may have to move forward first
before performing this attack, depending on your position. Mecha Patchu
will first rise up its left hand before slamming it down as a large,
round fist. Move to a different or lower platform to evade it.
Alternatively, move to the platform furthest away from Mecha Patchu.

Attack 2: Drill Cluster – Mecha Patchu will shoot around 12 drills from
her drill arm, moving her arm first up, then down then up again. I’m not
too sure if there’s a blind spot for this attack as I’ve yet to dodge it
myself.

Attack 3: Petal Spread – An attack that has been repeated a few times
this whole game, Mecha Patchu will shoot a spread of petal Danmaku all
around from her nose(?). Slowly move to evade this

Attack 4: Laser Eye Wave – Perhaps a parody of Dejiko’s “Me~Kara Beam”,
Mecha Patchu’s eyes will shoot a lot of lasers in a 6-9 (On the clock)
clockwise pattern. Perhaps her easiest attack to dodge, just stand on the
highest platform to evade.

Desperation Move (DM):

Spirit Finale: Mecha Patchu will first begin to glow and blink a number
of times, slowly increasing the speed of the blinking. After around 7
blinks (Or was it seconds?), Mecha Patchu will then launch a powerful
spirit projectile of itself at you in a straight line. Very powerful,
very damaging and quite difficult to avoid since it moves quite slow in
comparison to most bullets, if you get hit by this attack, say goodbye to
HALF to 3/4 your health. When Mecha Patchu first begins to blink, quickly
jump up to the highest platform and stay there while counting the time.
Once around 6 seconds has passed since she started blinking, jump. You
should be able to just manage to stay in the air long enough to avoid
this deadly attack. She’s invincible during the blinking phase.

Collected Weapon:

	None

Weakness:

Marisa: Yin-Yang Strike. Red Magic works as well.

Alice: Bloody Curse. Homing Amulet should work too. Considering the power
of the Force Crisis, that should be effective as well.

Special note:

Approach the downed Patchu Saucer to begin the battle. Mecha Patchu will
then rise from its hiding place for the final fight.

Mecha Patchu is only vulnerable in the face. Hitting in other places will
result your attack in being bounced off.

Strategy:

This is it: the final fight of the game. As you approach the saucer, you
would of course notice a very uneven terrain with a few platforms. Use
those platforms to the best you can. To be precise, try not to fall off
those platforms with the exception of attack 2 (and maybe attack 3 as
well).

Go to the highest platform and start spamming Yin-Yang Strike (if you
have them) in her face until you run out of ammo. Else, use the Bloody
Curse/ Red Magic for a just as effective attack. Just like the Patchu
Machines before, this is a very fast fight as well. It’s quite difficult
to not get hurt during this fight thus; don’t be afraid to use your
Mushroom and Star Tanks. This IS the final fight, after all.

------------
MINI-BOSSES
------------

Mini-bosses are essentially supped-up enemies that are stronger than normal and
not generic fairies and usually appear during the stage. These opponents have
their own unique appearance and what truly distinguishes a Mini-Boss from a
normal enemy and a boss is that the Mini-Boss will only appear once during the
stage.

Hong Mei Ling/ Hong Meirin/ China/ Chugoku/ Whatever...

Appearance: Chinese clothing. Long flowing red hair.

Attacks:

Jump-Kick: She’ll run and jump-kick you. For some odd reason, she has a
weird pattern of running slow towards you, but her return trip/ second
attack has her running faster...

Comments/ Strategies:

One of the toughest Mini-Bosses in my opinion, she can attack both fast
and slow and is one of the rare melee enemies in the game. Usually you
can jump her attack in your first few encounters, however, she’ll come
back with a stronger chi and a body-double in later stage. That time,
you’ll have to evade both her and her body-double.

Lily White AKA the Herald of Spring

Appearance: A cute blond fairy in white clothing, always smiling. Enjoys
       Spring.

Attacks:

Spring’s Arrival: Danmaku Petal Storm – Lily White-chan will appear and
shower you with non-stop Danmaku petals.

Comments/ Startegies:

Ain’t she one cute, adorable fairy? Even after you defeat her the first
time, she’ll come back time and time again. The developers tried to make
her an annoying fairy just like in “Phantasgomaria of Flower Viewing”

Lily Black

Appearance: A cute blond fairy in black clothing, always smiling. Very similar
to Lily White. Also loves spring, but may enjoy autumn more.

Attacks:

Spring’s Arrival: Danmaku Petal Storm – Exactly the same as Lily White’s
attack.

Comments/ Strategies:

Ain’t she one cute, adorable fairy... except in black clothing? Look at
Lily White’s comments. She seems to be a Patchu Castle 3B exclusive,
following the Phantasgomaria of Flower View pattern. It may be me, but
she’s slightly tougher than Lily White (although this may be due to the
fact you’re using the slightly weaker Alice in the stage).

Medicine Melancholy AKA the Little, Sweet Poison

Appearance: A big, red ribbon on her head. Blond hair, red skirt, black shirt

Attacks:

Suzuran Wave: She’ll throw a continuous stream of Suzuran poison that
will travel following the floor in around a 2 seconds interval.

Comments/ Strategies:

She’s not really hard. But the spot where the developers decided to put
her makes it rather hard to hit her. Her attack needs a good reflex to
jump every few seconds. But overall, a decent Mini-Boss.

Lunasa Prismriver AKA the Ghostly Violinist

Appearance: A cute blond poltergeist in black clothing, always smiling. She has
a moon-shape item on her hat. Enjoys string-based musical instruments,
especially the violin.

Attacks:

String Concerto: Lunasa will play her violin, shooting a random vertical
3-row yellow shot at you. Her middle row semi-homes in on your position.

Comments/ Startegies:

The cutest Prismriver in my opinion, and also the toughest as well as the
eldest. Her shots are slightly random and thus you’ll take some damage
from her.

Merlin Prismriver AKA the Ghostly Trumpeter

Appearance: A blue-haired poltergeist, always smiling. Enjoys wind-based
musical instruments

Attacks:

Wind Waltz: Merlin will play her trumpet, shooting out blue projectiles
that go in a wavy line. Very easy to dodge.

Comments/ Startegies:

Middle Prismriver but the easiest attack. Just stand in between her
attacks.

Lyrica Prismriver AKA the Ghostly Keyboardist

Appearance: A white-haired poltergeist in red clothing, always smiling. Enjoys
precision-key-base musical instruments

Attacks:

Chaotic Keys: Very similar to Lunasa’s attack, but she shoots
horizontally up, before they fall down. Easy to dodge as you’re given
ample time to see the projectile’s trajectory.

Comments/ Strategies:

Second toughest. She’s always above you. Bloody Curse or Red Magic will
finish her off quick and simple.

Prismriver Sisters AKA the Phantom Ensemble/ 3 Poltergeist Sisters

Appearance: All three Prismriver sisters together.

Attacks:

Burial Concerto: Their individual attacks, technically speaking, combined
together and in unison

Comments/ Strategies:

Alone, they’re kinda easy. But together, they’re a different case, with
each covering their own respective weaknesses. Lunasa is still the
toughest one, with her shots more random than the other two. So, beat her
first before going for Lyrica. Merlin’s wavy attack is still the easiest
to dodge, so go for her last.

Rumia AKA Youkai of the Dusk and Darkness

Appearance: A blond youkai, always having her hands far apart. No idea why. She
also has some kind of red hair-piece ribbon, if taken out, would unleash her
full powers or so the rumour goes...

Attacks:

Darkness Envelopment: Turns the whole screen black.

Comments/ Strategies:

Shouldn’t this attack be Mystia’s? In any case, this attack does no
damage to you, but Rumia is usually accompanied by pits and a few enemies
to do her work for her. Her attack will only work if she’s on screen, so
you can either finish her off to ease your memory burden or either just
run away from her.

Inaba Machine/ Mecha Tewi?

Appearance: A Bunny/ Rabbit/ Tewi? in a red machine that’s constantly hopping
towards you.

Attacks:

Hop Crush: The machine is constantly hopping towards you. It may
occasionally hop higher than normal. Very heavy damage.

Comments/ Strategies:

A Mini-Boss that will constantly push you back, so that when you destroy
it, a new one appears... The MariBuster is usually sufficient, however,
weapons like Psycho Missile and Mental Sacrifice seems to work best. It’s
strong against Spiritual weapons such as Butterfly Stream and
Reincarnation Ghost. I’ve heard rumors that it’s actually Tewi piloting
this machine, even though all rabbits in Eientei in this game except for
Reisen, look alike...

Shameimeru Aya/ Aya Shameimeru AKA Traditional Genso reporter

Appearance: A Tengu-like character with a fan.

Attacks:

Tengu Storm: She’ll just annoy you by blowing you away. Usually into
enemies or spikes or pits.

Comments/ Strategies:

I think I only saw her twice in the whole game, one of the least
appearing Mini-Bosses (second only to Koakuma, who appear very late
game). She’s usually situated in places that have holes in between or
either near lots of re-spawning enemies (which will re-spawn if you move
one screen away from them.) Simple enough to beat, just avoid the other
enemies in the vicinity.

Koakuma AKA the Little Devil

Appearance: She kinda reminds you of Remilia a bit, except with extra wings on
her head. Also, her wings are slightly smaller and black and she’s a red-head
with black dress.

Attacks:

Attack 1: Red Shoot – Koakuma shoots red bullets all around. Big space to
dodge the further you are from her.

Attack 2: Dimensional Shoot - 2 magic circles appear near her and shoot
plenty of kunai is a clockwise (For the higher circle, anti-clockwise for
the lower one)

Comments/ Strategies:

The only Mini-Boss that has more than one type of attack. Appearing only
before the final showdown against Patchu, she’ll do her 2-3 attacks in a
set pattern. One or two well-shot Psycho Missiles (You’ll only need 4
weapons for the final showdown) will bring her down quick and easy. Even
easier if you scroll her just barely into view before shooting your
missile, since you’ll be in a very safe zone from her attacks. Overall, a
decent Mini-Boss. I did not notice before but she fights very similar to
her MidBoss encounter in “Embodiment of Scarlet Devil”

WEAPON’S GUIDE
=================================================

While the Boss guide above touched on some of the Special Weapons, here they’ll
be described in detail.

First, a brief intro: the Special Weapons in this game are very similar to the
Special Weapons found in mostly Megaman games. Special Weapons are essentially
weapons that use Star Power (ammo) that you copy from the boss. While Megaman
is fitted with a Variable Weapons System for such a purpose, here Marisa and
Alice study the way the weapon work and applies them differently. That’s why
(possibly) your Special Weapons are different when compared to the original
version. Also, the way the weapons are studied differs between the two, that’s
why most of Marisa’s weapon are very siege-based, powerful and with a lot of
“Offense is the Best Defense” mindset whereas Alice’s weapons require slightly
a bit of strategy and risk when using them.

The Special Weapons are also very similar (kind of) to bombs or Spell Cards in
the Touhou series.

The following is the guide of the weapons, who gets what, its application as
well as who should get the weapon and which are Boss-Killers only, Stage
Special or All-Rounder:-

HAKUREI REIMU, the Wonderful Shrine Maiden of Paradise

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Yin-Yang Strike – Marisa launches a Yin-Yang orb similar to the ones
found in Reimu’s stage. The damage is very good, but is slightly slow as it
bounces like a basketball towards the opponent. Does multiple damage as long as
the enemies are still touching the orb. You can only have up to maximum 3 orbs
on screen. They disappear after a while.

Status: All-Rounder. Good for clearing unarmored enemies. Does a good amount of
damage against any boss. Best against Remilia, though a bit harder to use
effectively.

Alice: Homing Amulet – Alice throws a large square amulet that vertically and
horizontally homes in onto the opponent. Much lesser damage when compared to
the Yin-Yang orb. It also occasionally homes in onto armored enemies. However,
it is faster. You can have as much as you can shoot on screen

Status: Boss-Killer only. The homing capability works wonders against the very
fast Remilia. The speed is also quite decent; however the damage is much
weaker. It’s also quite decent against Reisen who moves alot.

Who should get it: Marisa. A decently strong weapon when wielded by her. The
Homing Amulet is pretty decent as well, but does too little damage to be any
use during the stages.

CIRNO, the small Ice Youkai/ Fairy of the Lake

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Ice Vulcan – Marisa shoot a round of ice shards at the enemy. Light
damage, but the speed makes up for it. Each press of the Shot button will shoot
out a round of approximately 6 miniature ice shards.

Status: All-Rounder. Its speed makes it handy when fighting lots of enemies.
Also, when challenging Eirin especially, the speed of this attack will makes
hasty work of her.

Alice: White Rose Cluster – Similar to the MegaBuster, Alice will summon a
miniature ice ball in front of her. By holding onto the Shot button long enough
will cause the ball to grow to an impressive size, dealing more damage the
large it becomes. When it is large enough, it will automatically shoot out by
it self. The biggest downside is that, if you get hit, the ball will disperse.
Also, the larger the ball, the more Star Power it consumes.

Status: Boss-Killer only. It can be used for the stage also, but will require
some very skillful dodging. When used against Eirin, stand next to her while
charging the White Rose Cluster will cause immense damage to her.
Unfortunately, Eirin seems to be the only one weak against it...

Who should get it: Personally, I chose the White Rose Cluster, because Marisa
seemed to be having too much weapons. Ice Vulcan is good too, but can consume
your Star Power (ammo) quickly.

IZAYOI SAKUYA, the Perfect and Elegant Chief Maid of the Scarlet Devil
Mansion

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Thousand Knives – Marisa stops time, releases a lot of knives (Hence
the ‘Thousand’ part) in a circle pattern before shooting them all around.
Average damage, but the time stop ability is invaluable and the only weapon in
the whole game that allows you to do that. The biggest downside is, due to it’s
extreme power, you can ONLY use it up to 4 times at full Star power.

Status: Stage Special. Extremely useful for clearing out a lot of enemies on
screen. Also, the time stop ability is effective at speed runs as you’ll be
able to skip a large portion of the game (and certain boss battles as I saw on
one clip). It is also effective at giving you ample time to dodge some of the
more difficult traps such as the one found in Patchu Fortress 1. Against Youmu-
chan, at full power, it’s enough to get her into Desperation Mode. This weapon
must be used wisely.

Alice: Quicksilver – Alice will throw 4 knives. The knives will then fly at a
45 degree angle from her. Quite strong and fast, although it lack the time-stop
ability of Thousand Knives

Status: All-Rounder. This weapon is quite fast and damaging. For afar, you can
take out quite a few enemies before they reach you. Against Youmu-chan, it’s
also very effective and you don’t run out of Star power as fast as Thousand
Knives.

Who should get it: Definitely Marisa if you’re still having trouble with Patchu
Fortress 1 or any other stages. The time-stop ability is invaluable (not to
mention really unique!). In other words, Marisa if you would like to run away
from battles a lot, Alice if you choose to stay and fight.

KONPAKU YOUMU-CHAN, the Ghostly Gardener of the Hakugyokoro Shrine

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Ghost Cutter – Marisa will launch a tall, vertical crescent wave
forward. The range is very short, half of Youmu-chan's range, and the damage is
at least the same as the MariBuster. Average weapon. Still, it is better than
other weapons and is quite fast.

Status: All-Rounder. Yes, All-Rounder. It’s quite effective at dealing with the
lesser enemies like the many fairies you’ll encounter. Also, against Reisen,
good evading will be required since you don’t finish her of as fast as with the
Rolling Slash. It’s only good against Reisen though...

Alice: Rolling Slash – You must be in the air to activate this. Alice will
summons a thick red barrier directly around her. Anything that touches this
barrier is instantly destroyed. Machines may take a bit more. This is one
attack that will do continuous damage as long as it’s still active; making this
what may be one of the strongest weapons in the game (in my opinion) but also
with the shortest range.

Status: All-Rounder. With this weapon, especially against bosses, you don’t
have to care for your safety, since most likely the boss will die before you

Who should get it: Definitely Alice. She gets an extremely powerful weapon.
Also, her special solo stage boss is weak against this weapon.

REISEN UDONGEIN INABA, the Lunatic Moon Rabbit

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Psycho Missile – Marisa will shoot out a missile. Comes out slow abit,
but is a very fast projectile nonetheless. Also, when it hits something, it
will leave an explosion that damages anything that touches it.

Status: All-Rounder. I find this weapon quite strong and useful, especially
against the Metallic (Machine) enemies. It also doesn’t take too much of your
Star Power for each shot and is a good alternative against bosses. I personally
like this weapon.

Alice: Mental Sacrifice – Alice will throw 5 bombs diagonally forward. The
bombs will then explode and leave a small explosion that damages anything that
touches it.

Status: All Rounder – Quite a good weapon. But damage is a bit less compared to
the Psycho Missile as it is spread out, as well as it is slower. However the
range is wider as well thus it can hit multiple enemies. Easier to hit the
bosses with this weapon, but it won’t do as much damage. And you can’t really
control where your bombs hit.

Who should get it: This one is highly suggested Marisa’s one. Her special solo
stage also has a boss weak against this weapon. It’s also quite powerful and is
a good alternative for the MariBuster. Although, Mental Sacrifice works well
too against most enemies since it is a throw weapon, you’ll be able to hit
enemies that are situated higher than you. However, you can’t really aim where
you want to hit and is slightly limited by range.

REMILIA SCARLET, the Scarlet Devil

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Red Magic – Marisa will shoot a red wave that will fly forward and
damage everything in its path. It also leaves behind a trail that deals around
half-damage of the initial shot. A versatile weapon, you can also shoot up and
diagonal with it. Hitting the side of the screens of any platform will enable
it to rebound in the opposite direction.

Status: All-Rounder – Quite a powerful weapon to use. It does pretty good
damage against bosses with this weakness or against anything else. It’s also
quite generous on your Star Power. Only downside would be the fact that it is
slightly slow to come out.

Alice: Bloody Curse – Alice will shoot forwards a cross-like weapon that will
spin forward in a set range before coming back, like a boomerang. Also, like
the Red Magic, this is another versatile weapon where you not only can shoot
straight or up, but down and diagonal as well.

Status: All-Rounder – Slightly weaker than the Red Magic, but compensates in
versatility. At maximum range, it will spin in place for around 3-4 time before
coming back, meaning that this weapon spins for a least 7-9 times worth of
damage! Useful against bosses and enemies alike. The speed of the projectile is
also fairly fast and you can shoot it immediately after the projectile returns.

Who should get it: Many claims that this weapon should be Marisa’s, but I
highly suggest Alice. Why? This is due to the versatility of the Bloody Curse.
It can be shot in 8 directions and still be able to do some decent damage
before returning. People has argued that one advantage Bloody Curse had, it’s
versatility in shooting diagonally, can also be done by Red Magic. However,
basing on screenshots, testing and logic, Red Magic is still limited to 5
directions, ie. It is unable to fire downwards. In this sense, Bloody Curse is
still superior.

SAIGYOUJI YUYUKO-SAMA, the Innocent, Dreaming Ghostly Girl in the
Netherworld Tower from the Calamitous Nirvana

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Butterfly Stream – Marisa summons a wide group of ghostly butterflies
that flies diagonally upwards, hitting every thing in its path.

Status: All-Rounder – This is a pretty decent weapon. However, this is best
used against airborne opponents to get the most out of it. It can be used
against ground opponents, but you’ll have to be considerably close to them so
that the butterflies will hit. This weapon also works pretty decent against
bosses. Its only downside is its slightly slow launch time, cooldown (How long
you have to wait before you can use it again) and attack.

Alice: Reincarnation Ghost – Alice summons a group of around 8 ghosts that will
circle around her. The ghost last until damaged or its timer runs out (About 5
to 8 seconds if I remember correctly). You can have a maximum of up to 2
summons or 16 ghost at one go.

Status: All-Rounder - Your version of Yuyuko-sama’s ghostly shield isn’t as
powerful, however, you can summon up to a maximum of 16 ghosts in two summons
(8 per summon) which does the damage for you. Also, during summon, the ghost
will damage anything around the screen before they (the remaining ones, to be
precise) reach you. Pretty useful in many situations, including the battles
with Yukari’s shikigamis among others.

Who should get it: This weapon works best with Alice. You’re basically
protected all around. And during summon, this weapon has one of the widest
range.

YAGOKORO EIRIN, the Brain of the Moon

WEAPONS:-

Marisa: Black Lotus – Marisa shoots two orb-like projectiles straight up and
down. Both will go with the flow and move according to the surface they touch
for a short distance.

Status: All-Rounder – A pretty good weapon, useful as an anti-air (straight up
only) and anti-ground. This weapon also comes out quite fast and is pretty good
against a few bosses outside its intended boss (the one weak against it)

Alice: Force Crisis – Alice summons a large meteor-like projectile that shoots
diagonally straight down. The meteor is summoned in the opposite direction that
Alice is facing (In other words, behind her), in a trajectory that upon
reaching the ground, it will be directly behind her.

Status: Boss-Killer only – This is one of the most difficult weapons to use. It
also comes out considerably slow and has quite a long cool down time. However,
it is very powerful, along the lines of Rolling Slash, being able to destroy
most anything that blocks its path.

Who should get it: Black Lotus is not as powerful as Force Crisis, but it is
much more versatile and easier to use. If you’re confident with Force Crisis,
then get it. It will serve you well during the battle with many bosses. If not,
Black Lotus is a pretty decent weapon as well as the timing isn’t as critical
as Force Crisis and it’s faster.
