Battlefield 2 Parachute Guide By: Grubzic Zichalo@gmail.com _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Version 1.0 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Copyright 2007 Grubzic _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Table of Contents _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Message From Grubzic _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ You're probably thinking, "What the heck? A parachute guide?" Well the art of effectively using the parachute in BF2 is very sophisticated. You need to have the perfect timing on when you have to release your parachute, you need to know when to use it, and of course, how to use it. The parachute can be used as a very big tactical advantage, or it could just save your life. Anyways, if you want to be an expert of using the parachute, go ahead and read this guide. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Grubzic's "Parachute Stats" _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Airborne Missions: 87 Number of Times Used: 453 Number of Times it Saved My Life: 65 Number of Times I Died While On the Parachute: 13 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 1) Introduction _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ This guide is for the Battlefield 2 veteran or "noob" that wants to learn to use the parachute very well, and very effectively. Most of us know that the parachute is something you use when you fall, and most people ignore it. But the parachute is a very advanced tool when used with perfection. It can be a great system of transportation to a very tactical spot, or to your base if you're low on health and ammo. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 2) Parachute Controls _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The button that activates the parachute for most people is the "9" key. When you jump from a place, you have to wait for about .6 of a second before the whole parachute gets released. Sometimes, that's to long for some unfortunate people who falls from a height that is high enough to die from, but too short to quickly release the parachute. Anyways, as soon as you open your parachute, your fall will slow down. Depending on what height you are falling from, if you are low enough, you can roughly steer your parachute to a certain place. This is very useful, but I'll explain this later on in the guide. If you fall from a very high height, about 400 Meters high, you can't steer for awhile until you get low enough. Until then, you're a sitting duck for a few skilled enemy pilots. You steer your parachute with your standard WASD keys. I also recommend assigning an extra button on your mouse (if you have this type of mouse) the parachute button. It will help you in times of trouble. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 3) When to Use the Parachute _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ When is it time to use the parachute? In almost any situation where you're falling from a pretty high height, you should use it. But here's a more detailed look. Geronimo!: Sometimes, you get flown really high up in the air from a plane or a helicopter intentionally. Then, the aircraft shakes, and you are ordered to jump out. If you've never done this before, you might get the "Airborne Service Award" or something like that. You're basically acting like a paratrooper, landing in enemy territory. I love doing this. Holy Crap! I'm Falling!: Sometime you accidently fall off a ledge or high building. Quickly activate the parachute. But if you fall from 50 Meters or less, you have a less chance of opening your parachute on time. The Plane's On Fire!: If you're on an aircraft that is badly damaged, you should heed the warning "Bail Out!" or if an attack is imminent, you need to press "E" and open the parachute quickly. I Want Fun!: The parachute is sometimes fun to use. You can enjoy the amazing view of the surrounding area while slowly descending. Scouting: You can have a great view of the map from the parachute. You can act as a manual UAV, and see what the opponents are up to. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 5) Best Kit to Use _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Almost every kit is perfect for using the parachute. I recommend that you use the Sniper if you want to inflict serious causalities on your enemy. You can guide your 'chute to a high place, and open fire. You can also throw mines into place from the air. Being a spec ops soldier is very useful too. You can guide your 'chute into a key enemy object (such as artillery pieces), and set C4 charges on them. If you're an assault soldier, you can throw smoke grenades into your landing site, and also terrorize the enemy with your grenade launcher. I just think that being an anti-tank soldier is the least useful kit for a paratrooper. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 6) Good Vehicles For Airborne Missions _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Aircraft is your best and only option as a vehicle in airborne operations. I prefer jets to helicopters in Airborne operations, mainly because the plane can climb to higher altitudes, and is fast. Helicopters can't get into high altitudes, and they are slower than jets. They are also very vulnerable to AA fire. When you pick a jet, I suggest a VTOL aircraft. These things are highly maneuverable, and can climb into very high altitudes very quickly. Also, most of the jet trips will be a one-way trip, so the VTOL makes sure that no one else will be on the plane because it is a one- seater. When you pick a helicopter, unless you're doing a large-scale attack, you should get aboard one of those two-seat attack choppers. The bigger ones are very slow and vulnerable to enemy fire. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 7) How to Use the Parachute For Tactical Advantages _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The parachute is perfect for stealth operations, and for attacking key positions. You can grab a jet or a chopper, fly over to an enemy checkpoint and take control of it. Or you can destroy enemy artillery pieces, or radar. Make use of your parachute very well. Use common sense when landing, and pick a nice and isolated spot to land when landing in enemy territory. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 8) How to Execute an Airborne Operation _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ You can only execute airborne operations with a map that has planes. Without them, paratroopers will not exist. So first, pick a nice map or server that has planes. Wake Island 2007 and Operation Cleansweep are great maps. After picking your map, spawn and respawn at aircraft respawn points. Unless you're going on a VTOL, get people to get into your aircraft. Pick a good jet or chopper. If you get on a VTOL, get on, hover for awhile, and fly up. Instantly aim your plane where you're going to land at, and quickly point your plane's nose up. Don't point it too high, or your jet will flip, and you will lose control. Watch the altimeter at the right side of the displays. Watch the compass too. Make sure you're at least 600 m or more up in the air. Also make sure you're not too far away from where you're going to land at. I suggest that you go up all the way to at least 1,000 m before ejecting. Keep on going up until your plane gets too far away from the position where you're going to land at. When that happens, quickly eject. Release your parachute, and wait for a moment. Take a look around you, and look for a good landing spot. Steer your 'chute to that position, and tell your teammates where you're going to land at. Try to land at an empty area that is close to an enemy outpost. After landing, it's up to you. This also goes for the people with multiple troops in a single jet or helicopter, but make sure you fill your aircraft up. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 9) Maps _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ You just need to remember two things. Pick a map that has aircraft if you want airborne operations, or pick a map that has many tall structures to use your parachute effectively. I suggest that you play Wake Island 2007 if you want intense parachuting action. The map is vast, and has lots of aircraft and good landing spots. Operation Cleansweep is a great map too, it's like Wake Island, but it has multiple islands, and less aircraft. If you want urban action, Sharqi Penninsula is a great map because it has helicopters, and plenty of tall structures to jump from. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 10) Badges _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Airborne Service Medal ********************** Take a jet or a helicopter. Get up to about 250 m or more, and eject. Deploy your parachute, and after about 10 seconds, you earn the medal. Pick Wake Island 2007 for this one. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 11) My Own Airborne Experience _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I spawned in Wake Island 2007 as a Spec Ops soldier. I spawned at the carrier, and I hopped on a VTOL. I flew it really high, and I got all the way to 2,400 m, and while my plane was shaking furiously, I ejected. I quickly deployed my parachute, and "felt" the force of the wind. I slowly steered my parachute towards the island when I saw it. I decided to take the Chinese airfield. I told my teammates to send a UAV scan in the position, and they did. There was an occupied tank over there, and a lone soldier. I chucked a batch of C4 from the air near the tank. I detonated it, severely damaging it. Then, I landed near the flagpole, and started capturing. Suddenly, a group of Chinese soldiers chased me. I hopped into an empty Chinese fighter plane, and I headed towards my carrier. Suddenly, a Chinese jet blew me up before I could deploy my parachute. Remember this. When you're on an aircraft, and the warning sign stays lit for more than 1.5 seconds, eject, because it's very likely that an enemy soldier will destroy you. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 12) Common Questions _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ None at the moment.
