Other info (Contact, credits, etc) [OICC] ------------------------------- Introduction to the game [ITRO] ------------------------------- Symphonic Rain is a visual novel game developed by Kogado Studios. It was released way back in 2004, but a remastered version of it is now available for purchase on Steam! The original version was released only in Japanese; to play it in English, you must install a patch. View the next section for instructions on obtaining it. The story is told through standard visual novel format. You will watch the plot unfold, and sometimes be given a choice to make. These choices will affect the story and ultimately your ending. There are 6 good endings and 3 bad endings in the game. At the start, only 3 good endings will be available, in "da capo" mode. After you obtain them, you will unlock a new gameplay mode, "al fine". This mode unlocks two more good endings; After obtaining them, the final ending will open up in the "da capo" mode. All bad endings are obtained in "da capo" mode. ----------------------------------------- What do the different modes mean? [DCAF] ----------------------------------------- There are two gameplay modes in Symphonic Rain; "da capo" and "al fine". Da capo mode is played from the viewpoint of Chris Vertin. The primary goal is to find a vocallist to sing during your graduation performance, while you accompany them on the Fortell. Fal, Lise, and Torta's paths are available while playing da capo. However, there will still be many unanswered questions even when you finish all three paths. Lise's path has the least overall impact on the "main" story, while Torta's has the most. Playing Torta's path last is recommended to help you know what's going on during al fine. Al fine is set in the same time period, from the viewpoint of Torta. Chris is now a secondary character, and even gets his own picture and voice! Al fine mode fleshes out the backstory and the motives of the characters. There are extremely few choices to make, and Chris will always make the same choices for Torta's path that were available in da capo. The music minigame will not appear at all, and there is no random chance that Chris will ever mess up or pick a weird choice at some point. Remember that the final "true" ending will appear in da capo, even though it isn't available until al fine is completed. --------------------------------------- English Patch Setup Instructions [EPSI] --------------------------------------- The original print version of Symphonic Rain does not include an English language option. I highly recommend purchasing the remastered version on Steam (no patch or extra steps needed to play), but to obtain and setup the patch for the original version, follow these instructions. 1. Go to https://tlwiki.org/index.php?title=Symphonic_Rain 2. Scroll down and download the patch under the March 18 announcement. 3. Extract the patch installer and run it. Make sure your game file is saved under the default directory (C:\Program Files\KOGADO\SRTE\). 4. After it completes the installation, run the SR_qc.exe file. NOTE: If the game starts and the font is messed up, you may need to change your system language. In Windows 7: 1. Go to the Control Panel. 2. Choose "Change keyboards or other input methods". 3. Choose the "Administrative" tab, and click "Change system locale". 4. Change the setting to Japanese (Japan). 5. Restart your computer. ---------------------------------------- Menu Options [MNOP] ---------------------------------------- From the main menu, you will have the following options. Game Start: Starts the game. If unlocked, you can choose between da capo or al fine mode. Data Load: Loads a saved game. Album: View the CG's you have unlocked. Music: Only appears after you complete the al fine mode. Listen to the 19 background tracks here. Free Play: Play the music minigame with the song of your choice. You must have played the song at least once in the story to play it here. Option: Set the options for the game. Quit: Exits the game. In-game, you can press ESC or right-click to bring up another menu. From here, you can save, change options, etc. The Japanese menu also has options for internet rankings, and saves your personal best on each song. They were not included in the patch due to technical issues, or so the patch notes say. ----------------------------------------- About the Music Minigame [MUMI] ----------------------------------------- At various points in the story, you will have to play a music minigame. If you don't want to play them, go to the options menu and turn ON "Auto-Play - Story". The game will play the songs for you and you will progress along the good path, as if you passed the song. You can also adjust the difficulty of the minigame by choosing easy/medium/hard in the options menu. At the bottom of the screen is your Score, Evaluation, and Music Sheet. The score is cosmetic; it just shows you your overall score. This does NOT affect the story progression; only the Evaluation. The Evaluation meter is how well you're doing with the song. For every good note, one of the smaller circles along the bottom will fill. After it is filled, one of the bigger medals will light up. Missing notes or playing them off the beat will take away the smaller circles, and possibly medals. To pass the song, at least one of the gold medals must be filled. The Sheet Music is where the gameplay occurs. Notes with letters on them will move from right to left, toward an outlined column. Press the corresponding key on the keyboard when they get in the column. A small note about the letters on the notes: if a + appears, it's really a ; (semi-colon) right next to the L key. If a < appears, it's a , (comma). If a > appears, it's a . (period). These are rare, but they do show up. Note that the music minigame does not appear in Al Fine mode. Once you play a song, it will become available for use in Free Play mode. This is a list of every song available in Free Play: "The Other Side of the Sky" Opening theme, initially available "Even When Crying" Ending theme, complete Al Fine "Secret" Progress into Torta's path "Always Smiling" Complete Torta's path "Rain Musique" Progress into Fal's path "Melody" Complete Fal's path "Lycenne" Progress into Lise's path "Hello!" Complete Lise's path "Fay" Progress into Phorni's path "I'm Always Close to You" Progress the main story "Even When Crying: Phorni Version" Obtain all endings. ----------------------------------------- Character Bios [CBIO] ----------------------------------------- Chris Vertin: The main character. A male student attending the Piova Music Institute, he is a senior and will graduate soon. He is an expert at the Fortell. He lives in an apartment with Phorni near the school. He and Arietta are lovers, and send letters to each other. Tortinita Fine: A senior of the vocallist department at the Piova Music Institute. She is best friends with Chris, and is Arietta's sister. Like Chris, she also communicates with Arietta through letters. Arietta Fine: Chris' girlfriend. She is not musically inclined, and waits at her hometown for Chris and Tortinita to return from Piova. Falsita Fawcett: The former student council president at Piova Musical Institute. She is also a senior vocalist, and is very interested in getting Chris to be her performance partner. Liselsia Cesarini: A very shy freshman girl. She loves singing, but her past is shrouded in mystery. She is the adopted daughter of Grave Cesarini. Phorni: A sprite of music that lives in the same apartment as Chris. She is very small, but has an amazing singing voice. Not even Chris knows much about her. Asino Altiele: Chris' only male friend at the Piova Music Institute. He also plays the Fortell, and enjoys hanging around girls. Ms. Cordell: A teacher at Piova Music Institute. She is Chris and Asino's private tutor as well. Grave Cesarini: A very strict, wealthy man. His attitude leaves something to be desired, but his Fortell skills are second to none. Ninna Fine: Ari and Torta's grandmother. She lives in Piova along with Torta. She cannot see very well, but is an excellent cook. Although not a performer, she loves music and treats Chris like her own son. ----------------------------------- Spoiler-free Walkthrough [SFWT] ----------------------------------- This is a very simple, quick guide to obtaining all of the endings. Story details will not be discussed here. Find the girl you want an ending for, and follow each listed reponse to the choices in the story. Remember that Phorni's path is not accessible until the Al Fine scenario is completed properly. Fal's, Torta's, and Lise's path can be done in any order, but you must complete each to access Al Fine.
