(from the instruction manual) Jets 'n' Guns is a side scrolling arcade shooter. while you may think they don't make games like that in 21st Century, they do that and they do it nicely with bright graphics,cool sounds and great sense of humor. I've been playing PC games for more than a decade (from the time of original Prince of Persia) and this is one of the best arcade shooters I've seen. An arcade shooter doesn't usually need a FAQ but This game is more complex 'cause you must buy equipment and configure your weapons wisely in order to succeed in missions and many people are complaining about the difficulty of this game. So I thought it's worth writing a FAQ. I will have some general tips about how to play the game and then I'll suggest a shopping list for each level which can make life much easier for you; I hope you find it useful! ============================================================================== 2. General Tips: __________________ First of all, shoot down as many enemies and buildings as you can; it will give you higher score and more money. The faster you destroy enemies, the less time they'll have to harm you. Try to kill all the soldiers; you'll get some money for each kill. Avoid from collision with enemies; it will damage your fighter much more than their bullets. Collect all the dropped gold and bonuses.(their icons are shown in the game manual.) try to destroy the transporters to capture their cargo, you will find good things in them( stuff like stock guns, discount coupons ,etc). buy the Atarix computer and unlock the cargo containers with it; As the manual says: " Click the container and the hacking device will appear automatically. You have to find the correct combination to break the lock. Type in four numbers and watch colors as they appear in the result column. Numbers marked green are correct, yellow ones are in the code but in a different position, red ones are totally wrong. You have 7 attempts to find the code. 7 wrong inputs destroy the content." on first levels you may need to sell some of your weapons in order to have money for buying Atarix, but that's not important 'cause you can buy your weapons again after that. Always sell Atarix and any items you found in containers after unlocking them (why keep 150,000 of your money unused in the battlefield?). Upgrading will add to the weapons' power and rate of fire but it usually makes them hotter too so always keep the balance and try to upgrade your cooling system regularly. In each level, some new weapons will be added to the shop; take a look at their specs and see if they're worth the price. Then buy them and upgrade them a few levels to test their capabilities. Even the strongest weapons can prove useless because of their low rate of fire or high heat. You can always sell your equipment for their full prices so don't hesitate to change your weapons for each level according to its needs; you can always try different weapon sets without the fear of losing money. Always read the hints in contact tab. they have a yellow icon with exclamation sign on it. They will inform you of the next level and suggest strategies to choose weapon and kill the level boss. ============================================================================== 3. Shopping lists: ================== Note: There's no need to confine yourself to this list but this list will give you a pretty safe passage through the game.You can try different configurations and see if they suit you. If you go your own way and get stuck in a certain level, you can easily sell everything and try my list for that certain level. The found money depends on your performance in missions so you may have less or more than I have based the list on; my suggestions are based on an average of the money I got from numerous tries of each mission. You can find a description of all upgrade in game manual. Level 1- Alchemy: ____________________ buy the la fontaine gun and upgrade it to level 3 it will give you some basic side fire, upgrade the daisycutter to level 2 to have a stronger focused firepower, buy the carnage tv set it will give you some nice money in all the levels with soldiers on them ( you must kill soldiers to earn money). Buying it now will help you in early financial problems! There will be two transporters on this level, try destroying them to get their cargo. you must Destroy 50 Cells to complete this mission, if you don't do that by the end of the level, you'll fail so start destroying them from the beginning. Weapons : DaisyCutter (L2) La Fontaine (L3) Upgrades : Carnage TV Set Level 2- Bandit: ___________________ in my opinion this level is one of the hardest levels in the game; one of the reasons is you have to escort another fighter to safety and it will follow all your moves. Upon reaching the check point you should have more than 60% hull integrity, if you have less than that, I suggest you restart the level from the beginning 'cause you won't be able to end it with less than that. you must have about 100,000 by now. sell the secret data (in your inventory) for 30000 but keep the cargo, you can unlock it later and sell the goods for a much better price. sell the la fontaine gun and buy the pink panther; it's a one of the best side firing weapons in the game .upgrade both of your weapons to level 3. you can upgrade the daisycutter to level 4 but beware of heat problems, you will have to stop shooting once in a while to let your guns cool down (you can test your weapons before starting the level by pressing ESC button, notice the heat gauge). If you don't upgrade the daisycutter to level 4, you can buy the mission meter if you like. Don't hit the walls; it's easy to do on this level because of it's rather tight corridors and it causes considerable damage. Destroy all the 3 electric beam gates, it's easy to do with my recommended weapons and it will give you good score. Weapons : DaisyCutter (L3) Pink Panther (L3) Upgrades : Carnage TV Set Mission Meter Level 3- Connection: ________________________ We'll use the New fighter we Just stole in previous mission so many important upgrades are unlocked from this level. you may feel extremely short of money butit's not true 'cause you don't need them all right now and you have enough moneyto prepare for the next level. You must have at least 125,000 by now. It's timeto get rid of the daisycutter. Sell it and get a tornado railgun. it's a verygood weapon that will last a long time as your favorite main gun. Also buy an Auto track MG and install it in the rear. Upgrade auto track to level 2 and tornado to level 3. Upgrade the cooling system by one level, it's expensive but very important 'cause even this single level will greatly improve the cooling rate. buy the mission meter if you have money left; it will give you some reliefat the end of the level. Don't waste your time trying to destroy the boss at the end, try shooting down as many fighters as you can instead. Weapons : Tornado RailGun (L3) Pink Panther (L3) Autotrack MG (L2 Rear) Upgrades : Cooling System (L1) Carnage TV Set Mission Meter Level 4- Delivery: ______________________ it's a slightly hard level 'cause you are going to attack the pirate base but with the right weapons, it will be extremely easy! with the about 200,000 money that you must have by now:Upgrade your tornado to level 4 (full). Buy the baker bomb 'cause you're gonna have some ground battle. you can also buy incubus missiles for their focused power. I suggest to upgrade your Hull integrity one level, but you may need to sell the autotrack gun for money.Buying the boss detector will help you in the final fight 'cause it will show you the amount of damage the boss has taken but it's not necessary.This Boss has three parts; the key to winning this fight is knowing that you can't destroy the top part before destroying the lower parts. Also watch for those spiked bombs the top part is shooting 'cause they can inflict very high damage in a short time. Weapons : Tornado RailGun (Full) Pink Panther (L3) Baker Bomb (L1) Upgrades : Cooling System (L1) Hull Integrity (L1) Carnage TV Set Mission Meter Boss Detector Level 5- Electric: ______________________ it's the funniest level in the game 'cause you must invade a live metal music show! you should have over 500,000 beginning this level so it's shopping time! Buy the power shield, it will protect you against small bullets and minor crushes. You can try the pulse gun or the Skywalker , both are good weapons specially the second one but both are too hot for your current cooling level and also need upgrading so I suggest : Upgrade your pink panther to level 4 (full).buy the flea circus missiles. Upgrade the cooling at least one level ( two if you have the money and feel the need). Buy the AutoTrack and upgrade to level 2 'cause it will be automatically killing lots of people . Destroy all the Zeppelins on the level, they give very good score. Weapons : Tornado RailGun (Full) Pink Panther (Full) AutoTrack MG (L2 Rear) Baker Bomb (L1) Flea Circus (L1) Upgrades : Cooling System (L3) Hull Integrity (L1) Power Shield (L1) Carnage TV Set Mission Meter Boss Detector Level6- Fandango: _____________________ An Easy but crowded level. You won't have much money beginning this level but you can sell the bombs 'cause you won't need them. Sell the circus missile and get Homing Missiles instead and upgrade it to level 2 to make it faster;it's an excellent weapon because of homing capability, good power and no heating.buy la fontaine and upgrade it to level 4(full). Buy another level of cooling system 'cause you'll need non-stop shooting most of the time. There are three Transporters in this level; try to get all their cargo. Weapons : Tornado RailGun (Full) Pink Panther (Full) La Fontaine (Full) AutoTrack MG (L2 Rear) Homing Missile (L2) Upgrades : Cooling System (L4) Hull Integrity (L1) Power Shield (L1) Carnage TV Set Mission Meter Boss Detector Level 7- Garden Warden: ___________________________ another rich shopping ( you have around 500,000 haven't you? ).it's a ground level so buy bombs but Cauldron this time. It's the best bomb in whole game and you can use it effectively in various situations even in air combat and boss fights because of it's very high power and wide radius.sell la fontaine and buy the super killer upgrading it to level 3; you could buy skyWalker but its heat would be annoying. The boss at the end will go down easier if attacked from the back, so you should press ESC and change the Tornado with the rear gun to hav effective fire on the back. Weapons : Tornado RailGun (Full) Pink Panther (Full) SuperKiller (L3) AutoTrack MG (L2 Rear) Cauldron Bomb (L1) Homing Missile (L2) Upgrades : Cooling System (L4) Hull Integrity (L1) Power Shield (L1) Carnage TV Set Mission Meter Boss Detector Level 8- Hearth: ____________________ You Have All the Weapons you need for now, so time to buy some upgrades; you should have at least 700,000 and some goods in inventory.sell the golden credit card. buy the bounty hunter license, it will pay back really fast ( more valuable enemies will glow green in the game). I'll sell the SuperKiller, buy Blackfist Mortar (my friend 'till the end :) ) and upgrade it to level 2. The rewarded weapon (the plop Gun) is only useful in special situations and you can't sell it for money so I'd Keep it in inventory for future. You will encounter three transporters in this level and their cargo can give you some extra money so you know what to do. You have two bosses to fight at the end of the level but the first one is just for warm up! The second boss is dangerous because he has the bad habit of jumping in your face. Just keep to the right and shoot him when he jumps ; I find Cauldron bombs very useful here because of their power. He'll become vulnerable after you destroy his gun. Max out the blackfist mortar (full); it has high power and very low heat. You may need to downgrade or sell the auto track if you're short of money. you won't need bombs for this level so you can sell them temporarily to upgrade your hull integrity . you'll find two transporters in this level. There is a pretty weak boss at the end of the level so nothing to worry. Weapons : Tornado RailGun (Full) Pink Panther (Full) Blackfist Mortar (Full) AutoTrack MG (L2 Rear) Homing Missile (L2) Upgrades : Cooling System (L4) Hull Integrity (L2) Power Shield (L1) Carnage TV Set Mission Meter Boss Detector Bounty Hunter License Level 10- Jabber Wacky: ___________________________ For this one I'll go with another power shield upgrade, making it level2.also two hull integrity upgrades will help in keeping you alive. Cauldrons are a great way of destroying the millipedes so buy them again.I have some money left so I'll buy two levels of upgrade for my missiles which makes them faster. I'll buy a JC Superstar and upgrade it to level 3 installing it in the rear instead of Auto track MG. another level of Cooling must be purchased to keep things cool. As the game tip says, you must first destroy exterior guns of the boss and then the engine in the middle. And we'll buy Circulus as a defensive shield; it's really convincing to have some heavy balls moving around you.There are many ground targets in this level so Cauldron Bombs Rule in here (You can also use the DiscoTeque 3000 bombs which are very good on their own;they can be dropped one at a time making them really cool but they don't have cauldron's radius; another good bomb is Holly Johnsons). There are Four Transporters across the level so you can earn at least 100,000 this way. This rather hard mission is the only under water mission in whole game. so sell bombs and missiles 'cause you can't use them. We're gonna sell Jc Superstar and buy The Zombie Blues Plasma gun, Upgrade it to level 3 and install it in the rear; it's an interesting weapon with a delay like other PGs but it will rotate and it has homing feature, moreover because of it's special movements, you can use it as a shield when things get too crowded. I'll also buy the magneto gravi-pad;it protects against collision with ground and walls. I'll Upgrade both Hull Integrity and Circulus one level. if you have Nano machines, they don't seem to work under water so you can buy something more useful with it's money. I'm gonna buy back my Cauldron Bomb and Homing Missiles for this mission. I 'll get the missile to level 4 and bombs to level 2.then I'll upgrade the circulus to level 3 and get another Hull integrity upgrade. you will witness the power and effectiveness of Zombie blues in here.Don't skimp on the dimension gate at the end of the level, there is lots of money to be found if you don't destroy the gate fast.BTW don't miss the four transporters on this mission. The next move is to get both Hull integrity and cooling to level 7. the enemies on this level have surprisingly high hit points so beware. Nothing to do in the shop! But there's a little money left to waste so I'll buy the full upgrade for Cauldron bombs. This is a hard level but if you destroy all those green domes and get their hull integrities you'll pass this level in your first try. Remember, your goal is to destroy those yellow towers and get at least 60% of the weapon data so if you don't do that, you'll fail the mission.There are six of them in the level and you must collect at least five data disks. these aliens are an advanced race so those threes transporters you destroy in the mission will usually drop cargo containing high rank guns (good money).
