Although technically this FAQ refers to the International version of the game, the game will simply be referred to as 'Dark Eden' from this point on, whereas the Asian version will be refred to as 'Dark Eden Asian Version'. Unlike some MMORPGS, Dark Eden is focused on 'player vs player combat', which mainly occurs between the games two races 'Slayers' and 'Vampires'. Each race has it's own advantages, disadvantages, training methods, and community, which creates a different playing xperience depending on which race you choose to be. Minimum System Requirements: Operating System: Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP CPU: PII-450 MHZ Memory: 128MB RAM Video: Video Memory 16MB (3D) Direct-X: Direct-X 7A or higher Internet Speed: 56k Free HDD Space: 600M +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Section II - Basic Slayer Information | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | i - The Stats of a Slayer | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ The stats that a Slayer and their equipment have are has follows: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Str |(Most weapons have a Str requirement) | | Dex |(How accurate your attack will be) | | Int |(Intelligence, increases the effect of Skills) | | Defence |(Some armour has a Defence requirement) | | Protection |(How much damage you can block) | | ToHit |(How hard you are to hit) | | Damage |(How much damage you can do) | | HP |(Hitpoints, how health you have left before you die) | | MP |(Mana points, what Slayers use up in order to use Skills) | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- While creating a Slayer, you will have the opportunity to change the random stats you begin with. You can 're-roll' the stats if you don't like the ones there, but if you see a set you may want, but think you could get better, you can 'save' them and then 'load' them again if you decide to keep it. The maximum a single stat can be is 30. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ii - How Slayers 'Level' | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Compared to Vampires, Slayers are unique in how they grow stronger. A slayer gains experience by attacking, not killing. Every attack grants you some Attribute Experience (Increases str/dex/int) and some domain experience (Also known as 'Skill Experience'). The trick to leveling is what and how you attack. A normal attack will result in 30 domain experience depending on the type of weapon used (See next section), where as using the use of a skill offers more experience per attack. Skills offer only a certain amount of experience per hit and with the use of an 'area attack skill', exp is only gained once. Meaning if you hit 1 or even up to 20 monsters, you will gain the same experience. Domain level determines when you can learn a new skill for that class (or 'Domain'). See the next section for more information. Also, the amount of experience you get per hit it is the same for all monsters. For example, a level 1 monster would give you the same experience per hit as a level 100 monster. You only gain more experience for defeating a higher level enemy because they have more HP. The strength of the weapon that you use also affects experience gained. There is a bonus where the higher your weapon's strength, the more experience you MAY gain per attack. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | iii - Slayer Classes/Domains | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ The main choice that you have while playing as a Slayer is what Domain you wish your character to use. The domain determines what kind of skills and weapons you can use. You are allowed a maximum of 150 skill points to spread about the domains as you wish. The most common examples of this are 100 points in one skill then 50 in another (Which you allows you to 'max out' a skill, and still learn a good amount of skills from a second domain), and 75/75 (Which creates a more balanced character, but blocks of the ability to max out a skill and learn 'Soul Chain'.) Note: A passive skill doesn't require any MP to use, as it takes effect the moment you learn it. The domains are as follows: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | 1 - Blade | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Type of Combat: Melee. Basic Weapons Used: Cutlass, Long Samsheer, Falchion. Advantages: High Str and HP. Powerful close combat skills. Disadvantages: No real disadvantages. Rating and comments: Bladers effectively create a 'tank' Slayer, in other words they hit hard and are hard to take down. However if you want to be unique, becoming a Blader isn't the best skill to chose, otherwise it's a good Primary skill, which is why it is so popular. The ideal primary skill for a person's first try at being a Slayer. 8/10 ------- Skills ------- Name: Single Blow Level Required: 5 Effect: Stonger attack then the basic attack. Name: Spiral Slay Level Required: 10 Effect: Stronger attack than Single Blow Name: Concentration Level Required: 15 Effect: Passive skill, increases damage. Name: Ghost Blade Level Required: 20 Effect: Increases To Hit while the skill is active. Name: Triple Break Level Required: 25 Effect: Stronger attack than Spiral Slay. Name: Evasion Level Required: 30 Effect: Passive, while equiped with a blade attacks against you do less damamge. Name: Wild Smash Level Required: 35 Effect: Stronger attack than Triple Break. Name: Shadow Walk Level Required: 45 Effect: Can 'zoom' in to attack enemys that are less than six tiles away. Name: Potential Explosion Level Required: 50 Effect: Increases STR and DEX while the skill is active. Name: Hurricane Combo Level Required: 55 Effect: Stronger attack than Wild Smash Name: Tornando Sever Level Required: 60 Effect: Stronger attack than Hurricane Combo Name: Charging Power Level Required: 65 Effect: Gives you a 5-10% damage bonus while the skill is active, Name: Moonlight Server Level Required: 70 Effect: Faster attack than the basic attack. Name: Earthquake Level Required: 75 Effect: Damages anything in a vertical line ahead of you. Name: Beserker Level Required: 80 Effect: Uses health to increase strength. Name: Shadow Dancing Level Required: 85 Effect: A group of 'afterimages' join you in order to circle the enemy. They can hurt the enemy, but only you can be hurt. Name: Typhoon Level Required: 90 Effect: Knocks back the enemy. Name: Air Shield Level Required: 95 Effect: Increases while defence while the skill is active. Name: Power of Land Level Required: 100 Effect: Area damage. Name: Soul Chain Level Required: 100 Effect: Can teleport to any member of the same race. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 2 - Sword | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Type of Combat: Melee. Basic Weapons Used: Light Sword, War Sword, Broad Sword. Advantages: Can hit faster the Blade. Shield gives extra protection and resistance. Can 'chain' several skills together with the level 100 skill. Disadvantages: Not very good against foes with high strength. Rating and comments: Basically the same as Bladers, except with lower attack power and more room for protection and resistance and the chaining skill; Which in my eyes, makes it better than Blade. 9/10 ------- Skills ------- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 3 - Gun | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Type of Combat: Long Distance. Basic Weapons Used: Sniper Rifle, Assualt Rifle, SMG. Advantages: High speed attacks. Good defence. Different types of guns to divide up the domain even further. Can see through low level Vampire's Invisibility. Disadvantages: Low HP, can be taken down with two Meteors. Have to spend extra money on ammo. Rating and comments: Nearly every MMORPG has the kind of class that is basically useless in the hands of a new player's and deadly in an old player's, and Gun is Dark Eden's. Like Blade, it isn't the Domain you should use if you want to be unique. Not much to say about them, except there's a reason they are so popular, and that's because they 'kick ass'. 9/10 ------- Skills ------- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 4 - Heal | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Type of Combat: Defence Magic. Basic Weapons Used: Silver Cross, Latin Cross, Passion Cross. Advantages: Cure Vampire curses. Can paralyse Vampires no matter what, with no cure or resistance. Recover and reviving magic. Disadvantages: Low HP. Low Protection. Rating and comments: The kind of domain that works great as a primary skill, and even better as a secondary one. Combined with Blade, Sword or Gun as a primary, Healers can be extremely hard to take down. Every serious training party should have at least one Healer. 9/10 ------- Skills ------- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 5 - Enchant | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Type of Combat: Offence Magic. Basic Weapons Used: Iron Mace, Silver Mace, Greek Mace. Advantages: Can see Invisible Vampires. Break Vampire's Darkness. Has Flare, which is like a Slayer version of Darkness, but with no cure or resistance. Disadvantages: Very low HP. Rating and comments: The kind of domain to choose if you like using 'flashy' techniques. Works really well with a Healer in the party to protect them, but leveling solo can be a chore and you may find yourself dying more times than you would like. 7/10 ------- Skills ------- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Section III - Main Slayer Areas | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Terminolgy use in this section: Safe Area: An area that is covered in green on the map, you can not be killed in these ares. NW, NE, SW, SE: Stands for North West, North East, South West and South East. Most areas in this game are divided by those compass points. Accessoires: Refers to equipment items such as pendants and rings. NPC: A character that you can interact with, but is not controlled by a player, usally stationary. Resurrection Point: The point that you return to after you die. Couple Manager: At this NPC a male and female character can reigister as a 'couple', however it requires a large amount of money to do so. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | i - Eslanian | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Note: Although Eslanian is tenchinally a four screen town, Eslanian in this FAQ refers to the safe area in Eslanian NW. Eslanian can be seen as the main 'hub' of the Slayer's, as it has acess to most of the important areas, and is the main place to learn skills and buy from NPCs. Eslanian is dived into four by a path system, the north area contains the Cleric Guild, the east area the Knight Guild, the south area the Army Guild, and the west are the 'Training Place'. Each guild is focused around facilities for one or two skills. These are: --------------------------------- | Knight Guild | Sword and Blade | | Cleric Guild | Heal and Enchant | | Army Guild | Gun. | --------------------------------- Also, each guild follows the same basic layout, this is: ------------------------------------------------------------- | B1 | Respawn location, access to the Waterway | | 1 | Healing, equipment repairing, item storage | | 2 | Clothing and accessoires sales | | 3 | Skill learning, sales of weapons relating to the guild | ------------------------------------------------------------- You can travel trough the Guild's floors by using the stairs, or the elevator situated in the west corner of each floor. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Eslanian NPCs | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ -------- Outside -------- Jacque ------ Location: North of Traning Place transporter. Facilities: Weapon diiferences explination, teaches Gun Skills. Tanya ------ Location: East of Jacque. Facilities: Weapon information, teaches Heal and Enchant Skills. Terry ------ Location: South of Traning Place transporter. Facilities: Sells gloves and shields, buys your items. Nancy ------ Location: Next to Terry. Facilities: Sells clothes, buys your items. Kaiser ------ Location: South of Tanya, east of Terry. Facilities: Story information, teaches Blade and Sword skills. Jack ------ Location: Near Knight guild. Facilities: Sells bikes, ammo and radios, buys your items, bike locator, can teleport your bike to you. Matthew ------ Location: Left of Army Guild, east of Training area. Facilities: Can teleport you to Perona or the Free Battle Zone. -------------- Cleric Guild -------------- Thing ------ Location: Floor one Facilities: Heals you, sells healing items, buys your items, can set resurrection point to B1 of the Guild. Griffin ------ Location: Floor one Facilities: Repairs your equipment. Christine ------ Location: Floor one Facilities: Sells storage for 100,000, lets you deposit items into your storage. Richardson ------ Location: Floor Two Facilities: Sells shoes and gloves, buys your items. Nicloai ------ Location: Floor Two Facilities: Sells coat, trousers, belt and helmets, buys your items. Yevgeny ------ Location: Floor Two Facilities: Sells accessoires, buys your items, couple manager. Kain ------ Location: Floor Two Facilities: Talking to him allows you view information on Vampires and monsters. Rachmov ------ Location: Floor Three Facilities: Teaches Heal Skills, sells crosses, buys your items. Hannibal ------ Location: Floor Three Facilities: Teaches Enchant Skills, sells maces, buys your items. Stoyanov ------ Location: Floor Three Facilities: Pay him to raise you alignment. Shanor ------ Location: Floor Three Facilities: Sells accessoires, buys your items. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ii - Perona | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Note: Like the Eslanian section, Perona in this section refers to Slayer safe section in SW Perona instead of the whole area. Perona is the 'marketplace' of the game, which basicly means it's the place to go if you want to sell or buy some rare items. Being a popular place, and coupled with Dark Eden terrible collision system, it is often very hard to move around, so it's not the ideal place to go if your in a hurry. The eaisest way to gewt to Perona is by asking Matthew back in Eslanian to teleport you there. Although if you wish to walk/bike to there, it's near the south edge of the map, above Lake Timor. The surronding area of Perona is a large area full of basic enemys, which provides a good opportunity to kill things if your in that kind of mood. A few screens away, in another part of Perona, is the Vampires markeplace. Which although it provides a good chance to kill some low leveled ones, there is often stronger Vampires just a few feet away. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Perona NPCs | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Robin ------ Location: North of the resurrection point. Facilities: Sells storage, let's you access your storage, sells accessoires, repairs items, bike teleportation. Carmen ------ Location: South of the resurrection point. Facilities: Heals you, sells healing items and ammo, buys your items, can set resurrection point to Perona, can teleport you to Free Battle Zone or Eslanian. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | iii - Adam's Holy Land | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Note: This section will be done when I am able travel around there without being PKed multiple times. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Section IV - Training Guide | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Note: The information that will go in this section in this needs more testing before I feel it is accurate enough to be added. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Section V: Fighting Against Vampires | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Note: The information that will go in this section in this needs more testing before I feel it is accurate enough to be added. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Section VI: Miscellaneous Information | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ This section is for various places/parts of the game that either don't fit into another section, or information on them is so small that creating a sub-section for them would be pointless. Free Battle Zone ----------------- The free battle zone is just as it sounds, you can PK anyone there without lowering your alignment. It is accessible by talking to one of the NPCs that transports you to other areas, before you leave you will be given a choice of which part go to. The two areas are Olt, where you can only battle your own race, and Bamatul, where can battle Vampires also. The main downside to the free battle zone is that it is often empty, so you could end up waiting a while for an opponent. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Section VII - FAQs | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Q: What is the difference between the International version and the Asian version? ---- A: - Asian version is 'pay to play'. - A third race, 'Elven'. - Lots more skills and items for Slayers and Vampires. - Multiple worlds. - Multiple servers. To view screen shots of the Asian version go to http://file.darkeden.com/community/screenshot/. Q: How can I stop the text 'spilling' off the edge of the screen? ---- A: Note: This is only works for Windows 2k and XP, and I haven't tried it myself so it may not work at all. Go into your control panel, from there open something like "regional and language options". On the languages tab, make sure "Install file for East Asian languages" is clicked (let your machine install the language files). Then, on the advanced tab, select Korean in the drop down box. Click OK and restart your machine. Q: Isn't there anywhere I can train without being killed by Vampires? ---- A: Unfortunately the only place in the International version to train without being killed by Vampires is the 'Training Levels' in Eslain, which you're only allowed in while your SUM is below 60, or your Total Domain is below 20. Q: What are the different kinds of resistance a piece of equipment could have? ---- A: - All Resistance -> Resistance to all Magic. - Curse Resistance -> Resistance to Curse Magic. - Blood Resistance -> Resistance to Blood Magic. - Acid Resistance -> Resistance to Acid Magic. - Poison Resistance -> Resistance to Poison Magic. Q: What is the purpose of +Luck items? ---- A: The higher your Luck, the better chance you have of getting strong items. Q: What are all the different names that an enemy monster could have? ---- A: Nehemiah, Hans, David, Paul, Joseph, Alfred, William, AlbertLudwig, Gustav, Erwin, EdmondIsidore, CarlWilhelm, Franz,
