===================================DISCLAIMER================================== I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com), IGN (faqs.ign.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks. Just to make things crystal clear for some people, this FAQ is not to appear anywhere at the following URLs: http://www.cheatcc.com http://www.cheatindex.com This document Copyright 2004,2017 Daniel Engel =============================================================================== Vietcong: Fist Alpha FAQ November 30, 2017 Daniel (DEngel) Engel dan.engel.2017 [AT] gmail [DOT] com ############################################################################### (A) TABLE OF CONTENTS ############################################################################### Table of Contents (A) This Table of Contents (B) Introduction (C) Controls (D) Tips (E) Walkthrough (F) Codes (G) Glitches (H) Thanks (I) Experimental ############################################################################### (B) INTRODUCTION ############################################################################### The original Vietcong game was a lot of fun to play through and I enjoyed it a lot. However it was also a pretty buggy game and that can sour the whole experience for some people. Since this is an expansion pack and you need the original game to play you really should make sure that you have the latest patches downloaded and installed for the game. All of the official patches can be found on the official Vietcong website here: http://www.vietcong-game.com/ [Select your language and then go to the downloads section.] This FAQ is based off of the V1.60 patch for the game and doesn't seem to be very buggy at all. The FAQ that I wrote for the original Vietcong was based off of the V1.30 patches at the time, so things have improved significantly since then. ############################################################################### (C) CONTROLS ############################################################################### The default controls for this game are as follows: W - Move forwards. S - Move backwards. A - Strafe left. D - Strafe right. Q - Lean left. E - Lean right. Spacebar - Jump, climb over objects. Left Shift - Crouch. Left Ctrl - Crawl/lie down. Caps Lock - Walk. Left Mouse Button - Fire your weapon. Right Mouse Button - Aim your weapon, also used to pop up while crouched behind an object. C - Switch between automatic and single-shot mode on automatic weapons. R - Reload. Enter - Action/use button. Tab - Check objectives. End - Command menu (for commanding your team). 1 (numpad) - Call Pointman over to you. 2 (numpad) - Call Medic over to you. 3 (numpad) - Call Engineer over to you. 4 (numpad) - Call Radioman over to you. 5 (numpad) - Call Machinegunner over to you. F5 - Quicksave. F6 - Quickload. Backspace - Drop your current weapon (to pick up a new one). M - Show the map (if you have one). L - Turn on your light (if you have one). B - Use binoculars. [There are many other controls but these are the main ones.] ############################################################################### (D) TIPS ############################################################################### Always check the bodies of the VC, they have ammo, weapons and other important items. Always pick up as much ammo as you can carry, then if you run out of ammo for your current gun you can always drop it and pick up their different gun. The lower down you are to the ground (crouch, crawl) the better your aim will be and the less recoil you will experience while shooting. You also have improved aim while aiming with the right mouse button. When you check the map you can sometimes order air strikes by moving a set of crosshairs on the map and clicking. Use quicksave (F5) so you don't have to repeat whole stages over again. The green dots on your compass are your troops and the red dots are enemies. By having Nhut (your pointman) lead the team, he will spot traps and enemies for you as well as take you where you need to go. Use the medic to heal you and save your own medkits if you have a medic on your team. Use your medkits whenever you are low on health or find a second medkit from a VC body (you can only carry one at a time). On most missions where you have an engineer on your team, you can walk up to him and press enter to get more ammo for your current weapon. Be sure to command your troops, otherwise they pretty much do whatever they want. By commanding them you can take out enemies much faster or get to your troops and their associated functions more easily. By aiming with your gun and using the binoculars [with B] you can get your target in the middle of the screen and effectively snipe with just about any weapon. Try using the codes if you are absolutely stuck, I especially recommend the chtweap code. If you use that to get weapon number 14 [SVD Dragunov] you should find the final two stealth stages a lot easier. Even though the weapon sounds loud when you fire it, then enemies don't hear it. ############################################################################### (E) WALKTHROUGH ############################################################################### Bricklayer J. Gastronomy I strongly recommend that you play as much of the tutorial in the game as possible as it gives you a great way to learn the controls and how to play the game best. ------------------------------------------------ Stage 01: Recon Patrol - Thunder Over The Jungle ------------------------------------------------ After the short intro you get to listen to a pair of radio transmissions before finally gaining control of your team. Check your map [M] if you want to get a look at the area, then face Nguyen and put him on point [press Enter]. Follow him down the river and right around the large rock [there's a tripwire on the left side], then continue until you reach the crash site. Stop Nguyen [enter] and face Defort, then use his radio [enter] before putting Nguyen back on point. Shortly Nguyen spots a group of VC, so give your men orders to fire at will [End, 7] before crouching behind a rock or whatever you can find. Kill all the VC in the group but WATCH OUT for grenades, and also listen to your team because they will yell out "GRENADE!" when one is coming your way. You should also find the pilot during this battle and he shows up as a purple dot on your compass. Search all VC bodies that you can find for ammo, weapons and medkits, then use Defort's radio before you put Nguyen back on point and follow him. Shoot some more VC when you cross the river again, then use Defort's radio when prompted [radio symbol on the screen]. Enter the clearing to automatically throw a smoke grenade, then kill another group of VC that come largely from the northwest area. Again you want to keep your eyes and ears open for grenades, but otherwise the battle's not that hard. Use Defort's radio when given the option to trigger the helicopter's arrival, then fight off the remaining VC. Once the helicopter touches down you can run up to it and hit enter to climb aboard and end the stage. Check your debriefing if you wish and click "bunker" to return there. After a cutscene of the mission briefing you end up back in your bunker. Read the various documents for a lot of background info if you wish, then use the mission briefing documents to begin the next stage. ------------------------------- Stage 02: Operation Golden Gift ------------------------------- Press enter to leave the helicopter after the cutscenes, then use Defort's radio. Have Nguyen lead you to the village and watch him talk to one of the villagers, then put him on point once again and follow him to the village chief. Go southwest after the cutscene and kill a small group of VC there, then use Defort's radio. More VC show up from the north and the west, I recommend parking behind a log or rock in the west and taking them out there. Once they're all dead you will talk with the chief some more, then Lim offers to lead you to the VC bridges nearby. Use Defort's radio and talk to Lim [press enter] once you're done, then kill a pair of VC as they jump down from a log up ahead. Now run into the clearing up ahead that Lim's leading you towards to end this stage. ------------------------------------------------ Stage 03: Operation Golden Gift - Hanging Bridge ------------------------------------------------ Have Lim lead you to a trio of VC nearby, then shoot 'em all and loot the bodies. Use Defort's radio before you follow Lim once more to the bridge, then get ready for a tough battle. Basically you need to kill the VC before the bridge in order to get close to it, then use whatever you can as cover as you try your best to pick off the VC on the other side of the bridge. It's not that difficult because your team does a lot of the work for you, but it takes some time and patience. Once all VC in this battle are dead you should use Defort's radio [you may need to approach the bridge before you are prompted to use the radio]. Cross to the other side of the bridge as Bronson sets explosives, then find Bronson on the other side and talk to him [enter] to give him the order to blow up the bridge. Use Defort's radio and follow Lim until he mentions that he feels the VC are near, then talk to him again to hear about a plan of his. Follow Lim up the hill to find the VC that were waiting to ambush you, then hide behind the rocks and logs as you take 'em all out. Use Defort's radio and follow Lim to the LZ, then wait for the helicopter to touch down. Now walk up to it and hit enter to end the stage and the mission. Read the debriefing back at the bunker and watch the briefing for your next mission, then read your briefing documents to start the next stage. --------------------------------- Stage 04: Operation Pandora's Box --------------------------------- Operate the helicopter guns as you shoot any and all VC that move, then press enter to get out of the helicopter when it eventually lands. Head northeast along the road and kill all VC that you see [tell your team to fire at will]. Cross the bridge over the river as you kill more VC, then work your way up the steps to the three wooden areas. Press enter on the rightmost one to set some C4, then order everyone to follow you as you head back to a safe distance. Wait for the C4 to explode, then go through the hole and kill VC on both sides of you before heading up the stairs to the southeast. Check the left side of the building [outside, not inside] up ahead to find a staircase, then go use Defort's radio to get Bronson to throw a grenade down the stairs. Turn on your light [press L] and go down the stairs, then kill a small group of VC in the tunnels and search every tunnel inside to trigger the radio symbol. Go find Defort and use his radio, then leave the temple and cross back over the bridge. Wait for the helicopter to land here, then climb aboard to end the stage and the mission. Read the debriefing back at the bunker and watch the cutscene, then follow Nguyen to the captain and talk with him. Now follow Nguyen to your post to start the next stage. -------------------------------------------- Stage 05: Night Guard - Nui Pek Under Attack -------------------------------------------- Basically just try to pick off as many VC as fast as possible, because if they get close to you they're going to do a lot more damage. If the VC do manage to get beside you, simply shoot them as fast as possible so you don't fail the mission. You WILL run out of ammo for your primary gun so search any nearby bodies and drop your gun [press backspace] if it's completely out of ammo and you need to replace it with one of theirs. Eventually you'll get orders to retreat, so run back to the base once you get a little bit of covering fire. Follow Nguyen back to the base and fend of more VC. Now you get orders to follow Bronson through the minefield to find the enemy mortars. Follow Bronson as instructed, then follow VERY close behind him as you walk through the minefield [I suggest tapping forward as you adjust your path to follow his]. Once through the minefield you should find the radio in your items and use it before you head down the nearby path into a clearing. Shoot the VC up ahead on your left, but WATCH OUT for the tripwire just before him. Crawl and disarm the tripwire on the left side of it, then approach the water up ahead and kill the group of VC along the right side. Loot the bodies and tell Bronson to hold, then cross the nearby log bridge and use C4 on all three mortars. Get to a safe distance away from the blast, then use your radio and tell Bronson to follow you. Head east along the dried up stream and climb up some rocks midway through it, then follow your compass back to the bunker to complete the stage and the mission. Read the debriefing back at the bunker and watch the briefing for your next mission, then read your briefing documents to start the next stage. -------------------------------------------------- Stage 06: Operation Fist Alpha - Preventive Strike -------------------------------------------------- Put Nhut on point and follow him until you reach a VC group ahead of you, then kill all of them and a couple behind you before following Nhut again. Basically continue to follow this pattern and at least crouch while under fire. Always watch your back because you often get attacked from both sides in this stage. Otherwise go back to Nhut whenever there are no more VC to kill and follow him to end the stage. --------------------------------------------------- Stage 07: Operation Fist Alpha - Field Guns Battery --------------------------------------------------- This is a stealth stage so you need to make sure that you are NOT seen or heard until you've destroyed the radio. That being said this is THE MOST frustrating stage that you've played yet. I will try to direct you as best as I can, but you will be relying on quicksave and a lot of trial and error unfortunately. Even if you use the cheats to get through this stage it is still VERY hard, which gives you some idea of how cruel the stage is to beat legit. Put Nhut on point and follow him until he stops and warns you of a VC guard. Crouch down now and watch the left and right side of the large rock in front of you for a patrolling VC, then snipe him with your silenced pistol. Leave all your men behind for now [they just get in the way] and go left of the large rock. There are actually three VC guards here, one patrolling and two guarding to the right a bit. This whole stage is annoying but this part can be especially frustrating for some. I found it forked best to crawl under/through the broken log slightly right of you, then continue crawling until you reach a dark log/ledge. Crawl right along here and the vegetation beyond, then try to turn left when you can. Stop and use your binoculars [press B] and you should see at least one of the two stationary VC guards ahead of you. Aim with your pistol and use the binoculars [while still aiming], then get the head of the VC in the middle of your binoculars and let go of the B key. Now you should be perfectly aimed to kill the VC so fire off a shot or two. crawl right a little and use the binoculars, then you should see the other stationary VC [likely partially covered]. Kill him as well by using the same trick, then RUN [don't crawl] back to your troops before the third VC guard spots you. Crawl to the path beside the area where the last 2 VC guards were and snipe two VC down the path, then quicksave your game and decide how you want to approach the bunker and kill the last few VC. You can either continue down the path ahead of you or try the bushes to your right as you follow the rock wall, it's your choice. Once you've cleared the last few VC you should go down the stairs on your right to enter the tunnels, then follow them until what appears to be the end. They actually continue onward to another wooden section, but you're not going inside there yet. Instead you want to turn right and walk down another path and enter a different wooden section. Midway down this section on your right is a VC guard so kill him quickly, then climb down the stairs behind him [duck if needed] and quickly kill the VC on the radio before he spots you. Now place C4 by the radio [hit enter on the radio] and leave the tunnels as it explodes. Now switch to your automatic and fire off a shot or two now that you don't have to worry about noise. Return to your men and use Defort's radio, then go to howitzer #1 on your map [or follow Nhut there]. Give Bronson the order to use C4 on the howitzer once you arrive there [press enter on the howitzer]. Follow Nhut towards the next howitzer and fight a large group of VC from all sides, then loot the bodies and follow Nhut to the next howitzer. Place more C4 and keep your distance as it explodes, then use Defort's radio to start another VC battle. After the battle you should follow Nhut past the first howitzer, then kill the VC in the area before following Nhut to the end of the stage. ------------------------------------------------ Stage 08: Operation Fist Alpha - Burn The Jungle ------------------------------------------------ This is another stealth stage, just in case you didn't get enough of it in the last stage *groan*. Check your map and head towards Crocker's location, then crouch and snipe the VC sitting on the cliff's edge there with your pistol. Crocker takes his position there now that the VC guard is dead. Go to the right side of Crocker and lie down, then face northeast and snipe the VC guard in the tower. Cross the northwest bridge [order Hornster to stay behind] and snipe a VC guard in a tower slightly left. Crawl as far left as you can towards the circle on your map, then you should see some boxes when you get closer. Crawl left of pair of boxes and carefully check around them to see a VC guard sitting down. Shoot him quickly and crawl northeast past him to find another VC guard sitting by a box, then kill him too and continue crawling northeast. You should see another VC guard sitting near the edge of the cliff, so shoot him and quicksave your game. Call Hornster over and watch him get in position by the cliff's edge, then head north your next red X and kill the VC guard there. Walk down the slope to your right and look down into the valley below, you should see a waiting VC guard. Kill him and go down to search his body, then climb the slope northeast of you and work your way to the final X on your map north of you. Kill the VC guard here to get a radio prompt, then head southeast towards Defort on your map and use his radio. Head southeast to the edge of the cliff and aim for the building that's marked in blue on your map, then kill the two people inside by using the binocular aiming trick. One of them was the commander that you needed to kill, so that's one objective taken care of. From this moment on if you are heard or seen you don't fail right away, but you are given a small time limit from that point to get all three objectives completed or else you will fail. Go back down the slope that you used to get here and head to the blue building on your map that has the commander inside. Use your automatic to kill the VC and the commander inside the building, then search his body and take EVERY piece of paper from the table in the room, including one that's underneath it. That takes care of two of the objectives, now run out of the building and fill the orange fuel tank [also on your map in blue] with lead to blow it up. Go back up the slope and use Defort's radio, then wait a moment and use it once more when prompted to end the stage, the mission and the game! ############################################################################### (F) CODES ############################################################################### There are some cheat codes for this game and while they do help a lot for those that want to use them an invisibility code would have been VERY helpful for the final two stages. Press "~" at any time to bring up the console, then enter "giftfrompterodon" to enable cheats. The cheats themselves are as follows: chtkostej - God mode. chtheal - Restores your health. chthealteam - Restores the health of your entire team. chtammo - Restores all your ammo. chtgrenades - Gives you grenades. chtcannibals - VC wear wooden masks. chtallqf - Unlock all quick fight maps. cht3pv # - Turn third-person view on/off. If you are experiencing glitches your best bet is to make sure you meet the requirements for the game first, otherwise make sure your video card and sound card drivers are up to date [as well as making sure that the game is patched to the most recent version]. If you still encounter problems like the game crashing between or during stages you can download game saves from some sites [check Google], and either use them to try the same stage or the one right after it. Failing all these methods all you can really do is wait for an updated patch to be released for the game. I will not answer any questions regarding glitches, bugs and crashes that you experience. Instead you should direct your browser to the following links: http://www.gathering.com/forums/index.php Here you can register on the official Vietcong message board and mention your problem directly. http://www.take2games.com/index.php?p=support_contact Here you can learn how to capture the necessary info about your bug/glitch and email a report straight to those that can help. ***IMPORTANT!*** THE MORE AWARE & INFORMED THE DEVELOPERS ARE ABOUT THESE GLITCHES, THE FASTER THEY WILL BE FIXED! ############################################################################### (H) THANKS ############################################################################### Huge thanks go out to the following contributors: BloudyHell. ############################################################################### (I) EXPERIMENTAL ############################################################################### For a little while now I've had a paypal link in all my FAQs at the very bottom here. Mainly as a small experiment since a few other FAQ authors have also had the same idea. I had a few people email me before I put this link in because they wanted to send money, so it's here for those people. For the record I've received about $87 (which works out to a bit more in Canadian lol) last I checked, so I've been getting cases of pop and making some excellent progress on a few FAQs. If you don't want to send money or can't then send me an email, it's nice to hear what people thought about my work and there's always room for improvement. My email address and paypal address for those that want to contribute are both dan.engel.2017 (AT) gmail (DOT) com Many thanks, and I hope you continue to use my work! ~Dan
