Deer Hunter II is obviously the sequel to the original Deer Hunter. As stated by the title of the game, the objective is to hunt deer. Now, just as in real life, hunting deer in Deer Hunter II will take patience, timing, and skill. In this FAQ I'll try to give you the scoop on the best way to accomplish locating, luring, and shooting deer, as well as the many other parts of a successful hunt. I've never hunted in real life myself, but I'm very eager to do it this winter and have read many articles on deer hunting. I have the utmost respect and love for the outdoors and nature and this game truly gives you a feeling of peace during the hunt. Even if you don't have a successful hunt, you should still enjoy the experience. Forget all those action packed, non-stop shooting action games, you can actually relax with this game, if that's what your looking for. Deer Hunter II is a very nice break from the frantic action of other games. One shot is all it takes to bring down a deer. They are: -Hunter: Name of the hunter that brought down the deer -Date: The day, month, and year that the deer was killed -Location: The hunting grounds where the deer was killed -Weapon: The firearm the hunter used to kill the deer -Type: There are four main types of animals you can hunt and kill in DHII. There are bucks, does, foxes, and eagles. The bucks are further described by how many points they have on their antlers. The largest I have killed is a 18-point buck. I don't know if they get larger than that. -Firearm Score: This is a score that is determined by how many points the buck's antlers have, how good of a shot you killed the deer with, and what weapon you used. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ **Delete**: Use this option to delete the current trophy that's displayed on the screen. Firearms ======================================================================= =- .30-06 with Scope -=: ************************ -Game's Description: Bolt-action and 150-grain loads mean power! It isn't fast but has long range. It's a cannon! But don't be afraid of it, as it is one of the most popular rifles used. -My Description: One of my personal favorites. Along with the lever action, this is my weapon of choice for most hunts. A .30-06 has enough power to severely wound and even kill a grizzly bear with one shot. The extreme power, long range, and mounted scope are the best combination you'll find on any gun in the game. This should be one of the first firearms you should try, since it's easy to aim and powerful enough to kill a deer almost regardless of where the bullet enters the deer's body. Great for beginners and vets alike. =- Lever Action .243 -=: ************************ -Game's Description: A classic brush gun and 100-grain loads. It has a 7-shot capacity and is great in wooded areas. This is the rifle you've always wanted. Also works great on fox. -My Description: A beautiful gun. The 100-grain load isn't as powerful as the .30-06 but it still packs a powerful punch. With no scope mounted on this gun, you'll need to rely on the gun's sights to aim. This limits the range you'll be able to aim, but it's a very accuracte rifle at medium and close range nonetheless. =- Pump Shotgun w/Buckshot -=: ****************************** -Game's Description: 5-shot 12 ga. using 000 buck-w/8 pellets/shell. Powerful at short range. Don't get this mixed up with your bird gun! -My Description: As stated above it's very powerful when in close. If you are skilled at luring deer in close, this could be your gun. Although the game says don't mix it up with your bird gun, this is the best gun to use if you hope to shoot an eagle. =- Semi-auto Shotgun w/Slug -=: ******************************* -Game's Description: 5-shot 12 ga. & rifled slugs. More range than the 000 buck but not like a rifle. Fast shooting! It's very accurate when sighted in, but watch out for the "drop" if your shot gets long. -My description: If you want a shotgun, but can't lure deer in for close shots with the Pump shotgun, try using this one. The slug has much longer range that the buckshot since it doesn't spread when it leaves the barrel. The "drop" the game is talking about is when you shot is too long and the slug drops slightly due to gravity. =- Longbow -=: ************** -Game's Description: A pleasure for longbow enthusiasts and those who like classic bowhunting. Bow length is 66" and draw weight is 55#. Weighs 1lb 5oz. -My description: While not a big bow fan myself, or an expert on bows, I do enjoy the occasional hunt with the longbow to test my skill. You'll need to lure deer in fairly close unless you've got an amazingly accurate shot with a bow. Bowhunting is much more challenging than using a gun. A lot more practice is required if you want a truly rewarding hunt with the longbow. Be warned that the distance on this weapon is extremely limited. =- Compound Bow -=: ******************* -Game's Description: A strong bow at 55#, 29" draw and 270 fps. This superb combination of power and speed makes this a fine choice for close to medium range. don't forget to adjust your pins. -My Description: A better choice that the Longbow for bowhunting beginners. The sight makes it much easier to aim. Use the lower pin on the sight to aim at targets at a distance and the higher pin to aim at closer targets. While it can shoot farther than the Longbow, the range on the Compound Bow is limited as well. =- Crossbow -=: *************** -Game's Description: This powerful crossbow can shoot a 400-grain arrow at 270 fps with a 165# draw weight. Coupled with a scope, this is a deadly weapon. -My description: The last of the bows, the crossbow also has the longest range. It's a good choice if you're trying to learn how to aim using the pins on the Compound Bow's sights. The scope provides precision accuracy, that is, if you know how to judge distance correctly. =- Blackpowder Rifle -=: ************************ -Game's Description: Flintlock w/220 grain bullet. Its long reload time and lack of accuracy make skill a 'must'. It will take some practice but this makes for rewarding hunts. -My Description: You can go old school with the Blackpowder Rifle. Packing each round will take some time so all you're going to get in a hunt is a single shot before a deer is out of sight. Despite what the game says, this gun is very accurate. It's range is good, but at long- range, you'll lose height on your shot. =- .44-Mag Revolver -=: *********************** -Game's Description: A powerful gun at close range. The scope helps but don't try long shots. You can rattle off the shots quickly, but you better wait for the right shot if you want to be successful. -My Description: The only handgun in the game. While handguns are usually used as a sidearm when hunting as a last resort to put a fatally wounded deer out of its misery, you can hunt with one in the game as your primary weapon. Again, the game says don't try long shots, but unless you're talking extremely long, you should be able to hit your target from a good distance away. ======================================================================= VI. Hunting Accessories ======================================================================= =- Binoculars -=: ***************** -Game's Description: Armor-coated, zoomable 8-20x50 optics. It's slightly heavy but works anywhere. Binoculars are almost a must for the serious deer hunter. -My Description: The game is right; these are a must. Take them on every hunt you go on. Spotting deer from far, far away gives you a huge advantage. First of all, you can maneuver yourself around them so you're downwind, and they can't smell you. While you can move around them to get downwind at any time, doing so from far away will prevent them from hearing your footsteps. =- Rattling Antlers -=: *********************** -Game's Description: Real looking and sounding antler replicas with attract big territorial bucks. Don't rattle too much but a few in succession will get their attention. -My Description: Another item I almost always bring on the hunt. If you spot a doe and you're downwind, rattle the antlers to attract the big boys. Try to make it sound like a real buck fight, without rhythm. Don't overuse them. When you spot a buck and a doe, you can also use them to lure the buck closer to get a better shot. =- Scrape Dripper -=: ********************* -Game's Description: This dripper can keep a scrape fresh , or even create your own scrape. Make sure you have a good tree to place it in and you are set. -My Description: One of my favorites. The dripper can attract all sorts of deer. Sometimes you'll get around 5 deer, does and bucks, running toward the dripper. You can use it on trees near scrapes that bucks leave on the ground, or in any tree, even without a scrape. This is quite possibly the best item to use to attract any type of deer. =- Handheld GPS -=: ******************* -Game's Description: Portable GPS can track 12 satellites to lock on fast. This will tell you your position, your heading, the time of day, and even gives you a plotter complete with waypoints. Lightweight & easy to use. -My Description: The game's description pretty much says it all. It's really just a map and compass on steroids. =- Deer Decoy -=: ***************** -Game's Description: Deer Decoys help bring them in, but it is heavy at 15lbs. Safe hunters would usually only use the decoy during bow season. Use w/calls for best results. This item takes 2 inventory spaces. -My Description: As one of two items available that takes up two spaces in your inventory, you'll need to decide carefully whether or not to use the decoy. It's very effective in luring bucks in close during the rut. Use it with the Doe-in-heat Scent and the Doe Bleat Call for a realistic attraction that the big bucks can't resist. =- Deer Grunt Call -=: ********************** -Game's Description: Versatile deer call will lure in all deer if used firmly, but not overly used. This is your main call. Use it! -My Description: If you're having trouble finding any deer at all give this call a try. It's useful in luring any deer to you and will get their attention if they're close. Even without the aid of scents or decoys, the Deer Grunt Call works well on its own. If you can't decide which call to use for a hunt, play it safe with this one. =- Doe Bleat Call -=: ********************* -Game's Description: This call produces the natural bleat of a hot doe. It's nice to have if there's room in your inventory. It's best used with other attractants in pre-rut and rut. Several calls in succession is a good bet. -My Description: When used with the decoy and Doe-in-heat Scent, this is one of the best lures in the game. After setting up your decoy and laying down some scent, give a few calls with this and wait. After a few minutes you're almost guaranteed to spot a deer. Avoid using it too often, though, just enough to get their attention and keep it. =- Rutting Buck Call -=: ************************ -Game's Description: Aggressive buck grunts from mature rutting bucks. Deer are responsive if time is right. Bucks and does alike can be brought in with this call during the rut. -My Description: This call is best used in combination with the Buck Urine Scent or Rattling Antlers. If you're lucky enough to find an antler scrape on the ground, use this call and the Rattling Antlers to challenge any mature bucks in their own territory. You can also sometimes use it with the Doe Bleat Call in a bucks territory to make him think you're stealing his mate. =- Tree Stand -=: ***************** -Game's Description: A folding stand with a 22 x 24 inch platform. Cushioned seat and straps, and weighs 12lbs. It gives you a sight and disguise advantage, but it takes 2 inventory spaces. You also need a tree. -My Description: One of two choices for disguise in the game, this is the larger one, but it also increases your sight distance, raising you off the ground to see further. After setting up your bait, scents, decoys, or drippers, find a nearby tree to wait in camouflage. You're degree of rotation is limited to about 180 degrees so you can't look behind you for deer that may approach from the rear. =- Doe-in-heat Scent -=: ************************ -Game's Description: Doe-estrus scent will work great in pre-rut & rut. Use it around scrapes. Rutting bucks can't resist the scent of ready does. -My Description: Use with the decoy and Doe Bleat call to lure in rutting bucks. Also if you find a scrape, lay down some of this scent and the buck that's in the territory will almost surely come to investigate. =- Buck Urine Scent -=: *********************** -Game's Description: Use to create a challenge for that big old buck! Urine and musk makes them real mad. They will think a challenger has moved into their territory. -My Description: The urine scent is best used in the rut when you find a scrape. The scrape tells you that you're in another bucks territory and having another buck's scent in his territory is sure to excite any territorial buck. This is your other choice in other bucks territories if you don't feel like lugging around that big decoy. It can be used with the Rattling Antlers or Rutting Buck Grunt for even greater results in a buck's territory. =- Cover Scent -=: ****************** -Game's Description: Cover Scent masks your human odor. This sure hels when windy or deer ore spooky. -My Description: Use this if you're bowhunting or during the post-rut. Deer can smell you a long ways off if you're not downwind so using this is a great idea when trying to get close to a deer for a good shot with a bow. Use it in combination with the Fleece Jacket and you'll be nearly undetectable to deer as long as you don't move around too fast. =- Fleece Jacket -=: ******************** -Game's Description: Super-quiet fleece jacket helps you go unnoticed in the woods. Camo is built in. -My Description: The alternative option for camo instead of the Tree Stand, this can be a better choice and only takes up one inventory spot. Use it with the Cover Scent and you can practically walk right up to a deer before shooting. Great for bowhunting when that close shot is needed. ======================================================================= VII. Hunting Locations ======================================================================= =- Kentry Ridge, WA -=: ********************** -Description: In the NE part of the state lies snowy Kentry Ridge, flanked to the north and south by lowlands. =- Lewis Butte, WA -=: ********************** -Description: Surrounded by the hills of Okanogan County, you will find some of the biggest bucks in the state. =- Oak Park, GA -=: ******************* -Description: For a high percentage at a deer, try this lush eastern Georgia area near Emanual County. =- Wolford Mountain, WA -=: *************************** -Description: The deer in Cowlitz County are know to be less shy, thus making for an easier hunt. =- Locust Grove, GA -=: *********************** -Description: This Henry County area in the heart of Georgia has diverse terrain and above average deer. =- Irwin's Crossroads, GA -=: ***************************** -Description: The rolling hills of Washington County in east central Georgia are home to some trophies. =- Bedford, MI -=: ****************** -Description: Lying around Calhoun County in LP are some fine areas for harvesting larger deer. =- Mancelona, MI -=: ******************** -Description: A central valley opens the eastern lowlands to northern rolling hills full of prime game. =- Mullet Lake, MI -=: ********************** -Description: Cheboygan County is near where the UP and LP meet, making some prime spots for the patient hunter. =- Austin, PA -=: ***************** -Description: Hidden in this winter wonderland are an assortment of productive hunting areas. =- Julian, PA -=: ***************** -Description: Defined by a long ridge running north to south, this PA spot is a gem. =- Loganton, PA -=: ******************* -Description: Just south of the scenic I-80 in central PA lies the most productive hunting ground you'll find. ======================================================================= VIII. Starting a Hunt ======================================================================= ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Choosing a Firearm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Choosing your weapon is purely a matter of preference and entirely up to you. Each weapon has its own level of difficulty so choosing different weapons will vary the difficulty of successfully bringing back that big buck. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Choosing Accessories ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Unlike choosing a firearm and location, you really should learn a good group of accessories. Carrying around Doe Estrus, Buck Urine, and a Scrape Dripper is pretty much overkill. The same thing goes for all the calls. One scent or call will usually do it, two at the most. You're going to almost always want to have your pair of binoculars with you on every hunt to spot deer far away. You'll most likely want to have at one call and one scent with you during every hunt. I find the best combinations to be the Doe Bleat Call with the Doe-in-heat Scent and the Buck Urine Scent with the Rutting Buck Call. This way you've got the scent and call of a single deer, rather than a rutting buck grunt smelling of doe estrus. The Deer Grunt Call will work with any scent to lure in all deer. The Rattling Antlers can also be used with the Rutting Buck Call during the rut. It's even more effective for luring in huge bucks if there's a doe in your area. If you're using a bow, I would suggest carrying along the Fleece Jacket and Cover Scent so you can get closer to deer for a good shot. With the jacket they have a hard time seeing you and with the Cover Scent they can't smell you. I also never use the Fleece Jacket and Tree Stand at the same time. Deer have a hard time seeing you in the Tree Stand anyway so carrying the Fleece Jacket is a waste of a slot. If you're using a gun and don't want a Tree Stand you can carry the Deer Decoy. I would use Rattling Antlers and the Doe-in-heat Scent with the decoy to lure in the big guys. I rarely use the GPS but you can if you want to remember where that scrape was, or where you shot a deer. I never kill more than one deer at a time since I decide whether or not I'll take one home before I shoot it. And keeping track of a scrape isn't too effective since you should stay in that are anyway. The Scrape Dripper is an item I almost always have. Putting it in a tree is a great way to attract many deer at a time. I usually bring the tree stand along with the Scent Scraper so I can hide in a tree so deer can come from all directions to the dripper. Here are three of my favorite items sets that I use quite often myself: 1. -Binoculars -Tree Stand -Rattling Antlers -Scrape Dripper -Rutting Buck Call 2. -Binoculars -Deer Decoy -Fleece Jacket -Doe-in-heat Scent -Doe Bleat 3. -Binoculars -Rattling Antlers -Buck Urine Scent -Fleece Jacket -Cover Scent -Deer Grunt Call ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Choosing a Location ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Again, this is entirely your choice. Each location presents its own challenges. You'll probably eventually get that favorite hunting territory that you most enjoy, but each hunt is different so location is a very big factor in the difficulty and length of each hunt. Some areas have many smaller deer, while others have fewer deer but more bigger bucks. Getting to know locations well can make hunts even more fun, as you'll know the terrain better. Choosing the time of season and time of day are some more options here. During the pre-rut deer will be a lot less likely to get spooked by your own scent and you'll be able to lure them in close. I find the pre-rut to be the best time for bow and shotgun hunting. The rut is when deer are most sensitive to sound and smell. You're best chances for luring a deer in are the decoy, scents, and calls during the rut. During the post-rut you'll need to be very careful as deer get in close as they spook quite easily. If you're hunting during the post-rut, I'd suggest using a rifle since long-range shots will most likely be required. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Target Range/Calibrating your Sights ----------------------------------------------------------------------- =- Target Practice -=: ********************** The target range has close to far targets so you can practice shooting at all ranges. There are different types of targets. There are actual deer decoys with targets in the kill zone, right where a live deer's heart is located. In the field you'll want to hit a deer in this spot for an instant kill. No one likes to see a deer suffer so practice aiming at this spot in the target range. The other targets are a classic bulls-eye with a thick, bold circle at the center. The other is a grid of squares. =- Sighting your Firearm -=: **************************** There are others things besides practice that you can do in the target range. The most important is the ability to sight your gun so your shots are fired as straight as possible. You'll want to use the stabilizer to steady you gun when sighting it. Click on it on the right of the screen to use it. Now that you can aim your sights at the exact same spot each shot you can begin sighting your weapon. If you're using a rifle use the furthest bulls-eye target to sight with. For a shotgun or bow use the middle bulls-eye. With the weapon stabilized, fire three shots, each time lining the sights up with the center of the target. Use the scope to see where the shots hit. Each shot should be more or less in the same spot. If not, you didn't aim properly. If all the shots where in the same spot, use that spot to begin tweaking you sights. There is a arrow grid in the upper right corner of the screen. Use the arrow to adjust the sights. If your shots are too high, click the down arrow. If they're to the right, click the left arrow, etc. After making slight adjustments to your sights, clear the target with the button on the right of the screen and fire three more shots. Make any further adjustments and repeat this process until all your shots are dead-center on the bulls-eye. You're now ready to begin the hunt. ======================================================================= IX. The Hunt ======================================================================= ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Location ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Choosing a spot to start your hunt is the first decision you'll need to make in the field. My favorite type of location is on top of small hill. This way you can see a longer distance than if you're down lower. You'll also want to pick out an area with the right amount of trees. Some trees are good since you'll want one if your using a Tree Stand or the Scrape Dripper. Deer are usually around hills anyway. If you've got a Scrape Dripper place it on a tree in the flatland below the hill, but not too far away. Pick a tree on the hill if you've got a tree stand and set it up. You'll also want to be on a hill when you have the decoy. You can place the decoy in an open area in the flatland below the hill and wait on the hill for the deer to come. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Wind ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Wind is a very important factor when choosing a location as well, especially in the rut and post-rut part of the season. You have a compass in the lower-left corner of the screen that also displays which direction the wind is blowing in. If the wind arrow is pointing in the direction your facing it shows that you are upwind. That's a bad thing since deer in the direction your looking will be able to smell you. When placing a dripper or decoy, always make sure you the hunter are not upwind, with the wind blowing on your back. The wind changes directions so you'll need to move with it. This can be a pain if you use a tree stand, so if you're in a windy location, it would be better to use the Fleece Jacket. If you're bow or shotgun hunting and you need deer closer to get a good shot it's a good idea to use the cover scent if the wind changes directions too much and deer are too close for you to move. It's best to keep the wind at your side usually. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Items ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you pick out your location and are downwind you can start to use the things you brought along. If you're lucky and find some tracks, deer droppings, or a scrape, you should stay in that area regardless of the terrain. More on tracking later. You'll first want to set up some bait for luring in deer. Use either the dripper or decoy as your first item. With the decoy you'll want to put some Doe-in-heat Scent on or near it, then find a place to wait. When bow or shotgun hunting I find using the Cover Scent and Fleece Jacket to be the best combination. You'll be able to move regardless of the direction of the wind and get close to deer. The Buck Urine Scent is very effective if you find a scrape on the ground. If you find a scrape you're most likely in a buck's territory and he'll be looking to defend it. When you're done setting up you can set up your tree stand and use some calls. Using calls will be covered in the next section, Luring Deer. You'll also want to constantly scan the area with the binoculars. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Luring Deer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you spot a deer with the binoculars, you'll need to lure it in close for a good shot. Chances are the reason you spotted it in the first place is because it smelled one of the scents you laid out so by now luring with scents should be taken care of. The main way to lure deer after they're spotted is with calls. If you've got the dripper in place lure the deer in with a few Rutting Buck Calls, or Deer Grunt Calls. The one thing you'll want to avoid is using the calls too many times within a short period. If you've got the decoy in place use the Doe Bleat Call to attract deer. Again, don't spook the deer by using it too often. The rattling antlers are my favorite of the noisemakers. They'll attract both does and bucks alike. If the first deer you spot is a doe, chances are there'll almost always be a buck nearby. Rattle the antlers as soon as you spot a deer to get their attention. If it is a doe, rattle every three minutes or so and the buck will eventually show up. Keep rattling, but not too much, to keep the deer's attention. When you spot a buck, the antlers are especially useful in combination with the decoy. They'll spot the doe decoy, hear a buck fight near it, and want to battle for the doe himself. The main thing to remember with calls and the antlers is only use then in the right quantity. Not using them enough will cause the deer to lose interest. Using them too much will spook the deer, causing them to run off. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tracking Deer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- There are two times you'll want to know when to track down deer: when they flee from you for a number of reasons, or when you spot some tracks by accident. Deer tracks are just that; hoof-prints in the ground made by deer. These are your main sources for tracking. There are two "types" of deer tracks that tell the tale of the deer that you're tracking. There are close tracks and spread out track. Close together the tracks tell you that the deer was walking in that location, while tracks that are spread out tell you that the deer was running. There are three other indicators that tell you about a deer: the scrape, the droppings, and blood. The scrape is a good indicator that tells you a territorial buck is nearby. When you see a scrape on the ground(it looks like a claw slash actually), stay in that area for a while. Droppings indicate that either a doe or buck is nearby. Blood will only be found by tracks after you shot it with either a non-lethal shot or a lethal shot that will take time to kill the deer. If there is a group of deer around when you shot a deer, look for the tracks with blood to follow the trail of the deer you shot. Otherwise you could end up following the wrong deer. If deer get spooked and run before you have a chance to shoot one, you should always wait a couple minutes for the deer to stop running before you attempt to track it. If you follow it right away more often than not you'll keep scaring it away when you're chasing it. Track slowly. There's nothing worse than tracking a deer too fast and running right into it and setting it on the run when you could have slowly crept up on it. Patience is key to tracking. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Shooting a Deer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Once a deer is in range, it's time to get a shot off. Know your weapon's range or you'll end up firing and scaring the deer off without even getting close to hitting it. With a scope, and easy way to tell if they're at a good range is to make sure their body nearly covers the width of the scope. Without a scope their body is as wide as the near sight(the one closest to the hunter). With the Compound Bow make sure about half their body cover the open area to the left of the pins. The next thing you need to know is that your gun will always wobble around a bit. You can minimize the wobble by crouching(Right Ctrl). You'll move around less and therefore be able to pull the trigger at the precise moment. Now how to aim. You'll always want the deer's side or front facing you. You'll never get a good shot off aiming at its backside(and it's pretty cruel to shoot a deer in the butt too). Line up the crosshairs with the deer's mid- to upper-shoulder area if its side is facing you or right in the middle of its chest if its front is facing you. With the wobble you'll need to have a quick trigger finger to pull the trigger right when you're lined up. Once the sights are over the kill zone, pull the trigger. If you aimed correctly the deer will drop instantly. If it doesn't but you hit the deer with a lethal shot the hunter will say so, and most of the time it'll drop about 100 meters from where it was hit. If it goes further with a fatal wound, just use the tracking tips above to track it down. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Miscellaneous Tips ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sound is your friend. You can often hear a deer before you can see it. Listen closely with stereo or surround sound as you can hear exactly where a deer is in relation to you. Start out simple. Don't go for the big bucks your first time. Just get used to the game and take any deer you can find. There's no penalty for shooting does, although I don't do it myself, even in a game. Crouch when you shoot to minimize wobble. You can only run a short distance before running out of breath. You don't really need to run, especially when tracking. Don't use cheats unless it's just for fun. No one likes cheaters. Don't overuse calls or scents as deer will be scared away. Just enough, but not too much is always the way to go for calls. Choose the weapon that's right for you. If you find one weapon to be too challenging, switch to another one. ======================================================================= X.
