=============================================================================== Call of Duty: Black Ops II Multiplayer Guide Platforms: PlayStation 3 Xbox 360 PC Wii U Author: JPaterson Current version: 1.0 Last updated: Nov 28th, 2012 Website: http://games.jpaterson.net PSN ID: DarkAndTall Contact: See [About] Status: Complete =============================================================================== ---------------- | Introduction | ---------------- Welcome to my Call of Duty: Black Ops II Multiplayer Guide. This guide will focus strictly on the Multiplayer portion of the widly popular game. It will not cover single player, or Zombies mode (there are plenty of other sources where you can find info for those if you like). This is my first full game guide in almost six years, so please bear with me as it may take some time to fully materialize. While all three platforms are more or less the same, this guide has been written with the PlayStation 3 version in mind specifically, as that's the version I'm playing and basing all of my experience on. If anyone has read any of my previous guides (all of which can be found on GameFAQs), you'll see I'm changing formats and layouts slightly. New time, new design! If you have any questions, want to submit a comment, tip, correction, etc., feel free to e-mail me; you can find all the contact information at the end of this guide. =============================================================================== -------------------- | Revision History | -------------------- Nov. 28th, 2012 (v1.0) This guide is essentially finished. It will be updated for the following: - Corrections - New information - Tips, tactics, map strategies - Anything else that gets e-mailed to me =============================================================================== [1] Multiplayer Main Menu [MULMM] [2] Game Modes [GMODE] [2.1] Core [2.2] Hardcore [2.3] Combat Training [2.4] Party Games [2.5] Bonus [3] Maps [MMAPS] [3.1] Aftermath [3.2] Cargo [3.3] Carrier [3.4] Drone [3.5] Express [3.6] Hijacked [3.7] Meltdown [3.8] Overflow [3.9] Plaza [3.10] Raid [3.11] Slums [3.12] Standoff [3.13] Turbine [3.14] Yemen [4] Weapon Types [WPNTY] [4.1] Assault Rifles [4.2] Shotguns [4.3] Light Machine Guns [4.4] Sniper Rifles [4.5] Specials [4.6] Submachine Guns [4.7] Pistols [4.8] Launchers [4.9] Specials [4.10] Lethal [4.11] Tactical [5] Attachments [ATTCH] [6] Perks [PPERK] [6.1] Level 1 Perks [6.2] Level 2 Perks [6.3] Level 3 Perks [7] Wildcards [WLDCD] [8] Scorestreaks [SSTRE] [9] Barracks [BBARR] [9.1] Emblems [9.2] Player Cards [10] Pick 10 (Create A Class) [PCKSY] [11] Challenges [CHALE] [12] About [AABOU] [13] Donation [DDONA] =============================================================================== ----------------------------- | [1] Multiplayer Main Menu | [MULMM] ----------------------------- Public Match ------------ Choose Public, pick your game mode, game type, then hop into a lobby and get right into the action. League Play ----------- After playing five initial games, you'll be placed into a division with other players who have a similar skill level to yourself. Unlike public matches, where it's anybody and everybody, the only time you'll face off against people who don't know how to turn and strafe at the same time is if you yourself do not know how to turn and strafe at the same time. Custom Games ------------ Set up a custom game, and invite people. Games played in this mode will NOT accumulate XP whatsoever. Theater ------- Watch higlights of past games, upload short clips (if you've connected your COD account to YouTube), and enjoy. COD TV ------ Watch videos from Treyarch, trending videos, most viewed videos, etc. Barracks -------- Enter the Barracks! Please see the Barracks section for more details. Elite ----- Launches the Call of Duty Elite app, or if you haven't downloaded it, prompts you to download it from the PlayStation Store. Options ------- Self explanatory; configure the game. Store ----- See what's available on the PlayStation Store for Black Ops II. ------------------ | [2] Game Modes | [GMODE] ------------------ This is where 99.99% of the action takes place. Here is where you select which type of game you're looking for. Do you want the basics? Go for Core. Want an extra challenge? Try Hardcore, where your HUD is limited, as are your weapons and survivability. Party up in here? Sure, there's that mode too. -------------- | [2.1] Core | -------------- Core game modes are probably where most new players will come to first, as it is the defaulted selection at the top of the list, with the most options to jump right into a game. Game types you'll find under Core are: Team Deathmatch --------------- Standard team deathmatch, where the objective is to eliminate the opposing team to achieve a score of 75 within ten minutes. Each kill counts as one point. Players: 6-12 Multi-Team ---------- Three teams of three players fight each other for control of objectives over a variety of game modes. Players: 6-9 Mercenary Moshpit ----------------- Just like a moshpit at a concert, this mode pits all random people, no parties, against each other in a random series of game modes. Players: 8-12 Free-For-All ------------ Same as Team Deathmatch, but every man for himself. Players: 4-8 Domination ---------- There are three flags dotted throughout the map. You must control the flags. For each flag your team owns, you get points which accumulate. Own more than one flag and you gain those points quicker. Players: 6-12 Ground War ---------- Ground War alternates between Team Deathmatch and Domination games, but with bigger teams. Players: 12-18 Demoliton --------- Teams of players take turns attacking and defending two bomb sites. The attacking team carries bombs, and must destroy the site. Players: 6-12 Kill Confirmed -------------- Kill people, run over their corpse, and take their dog tags. First team to collect the most wins. Players: 6-12 Hardpoint --------- There is a Hardpoint in each map. Your objective is to capture and hold it until victory. Players: 6-12 Headquarters ------------ There is a base marked on the map. Your team has to capture it and hold it to gain points. The team that holds the headquarters doesn't respawn when killed. Players: 6-12 Capture the Flag ---------------- Simple game that's been around for ages; capture the flag and return it to your flag. If the enemy has your flag, you cannot capture theirs until yours is returned. This was my favorite game mode back in Team Fortress days (the original). Players: 6-12 Search & Destroy ---------------- This mode has no respawning, and you are tasked with defending (or destroying) a single objective. Players: 6-12 ------------------ | [2.2] Hardcore | ------------------ Team Deathmatch --------------- This version of Team Deathmatch greatly reduces your HUD, gives bullets added damage and enables friendly fire, so killing your teammates is a real possibility. Do us all a favor and don't be a douche who kills their team on purpose. Go hug your mother instead. Players: 6-12 Free-For-All ------------ All the maps in Free For All are small, you have a limited HUD, weapons do extra damage, friendly fire is a factor AND... no health regeneration. Fun times. Players: 4-8 Search & Destroy ---------------- Same as the normal S&D, but with limited HUD, extra damage and friendly fire. Players: 6-12 Capture the Flag ---------------- Same as normal CTF, but with limited HUD, extra damage and friendly fire. ------------------------- | [2.3] Combat Training | ------------------------- Bootcamp -------- Bootcamp will throw you into a Team Deathmatch game that is filled with both people and bots, to give you an idea of how to play the game. It is only available between levels 1 and 10 (if you're level 11 or higher, you can't access it). You will earn XP, for both weapon and player, just like a normal game. Players: 6-12 Objective --------- Objective mode throws various game modes at you, not just Team Deathmatch, and your team (and enemies) consist of people and bots. You will earn half of normal XP, for both weapon and player. Players: 6-12 --------------------- | [2.4] Party Games | --------------------- Gun Game -------- You're given one weapon, and you must kill someone with it to get the next weapon. Whoever is the first to kill someone with every weapon wins. Players: 6-8 One in the Chamber ------------------ Really getting to the nitty gritty, you get a gun with ONE bullet, but to help save your sanity, you also have a knife and three lives. One bullet equals instant kill, regardless of where you hit your enemy, and each time you kill someone you get a bullet back. It's like you ran over to their corpse, stuck your fingers into the spilling out intestines to retrieve the bullet. Players: 6-8 Sharpshooter ------------ Every 45 seconds, your weapon changes. It's random. You kill people to get points, and you gain perks for going on a streak. Players: 6-8 Sticks and Stones ----------------- You get no weapons; just a crossbow, knife and combat axe. If you kill an enemy with the combat axe, you reset their score to zero. Players: 6-8 --------------- | [2.5] Bonus | --------------- Chaos Moshpit ------------- Random game modes on small maps for crazy, crazy, CRAZINESS! This mode includes the Nuketown 2025 map that came with some preorders. Players: 6-12 =============================================================================== ------------ | [3] Maps | [MMAPS] ------------ This is a listing of all the playable maps in the game. If a map is part of a DLC (downloadable content) pack, it'll be labeled as such. Do you have tips for a specific map? Perhaps a good sniper point, nice infiltration point, a set path you run around looking for enemies? E-mail me! Find e-mail info in the contact section. ------------------- | [3.1] Aftermath | ------------------- Location: Downtown Los Angeles, U.S.A. Forces: Mercs vs. FBI Description ----------- Lots of close quarter combat will take place on this map, due to its size and layout. Ruined buildings, hallways, and a large amount of wreckage strewn about make for some close fighting. --------------- | [3.2] Cargo | --------------- Location: Port of Singapore Forces: Seals vs. SDC Descripton ---------- The Cargo map takes place over a freight yard, with a few buildings pegged throughout. The central point of the map contains a large circle with a crane, which slowly picks up, rotates and drops shipping containers. There are some elevated containers dotted around this area, allowing people to attempt to set up a sniper position, or to jump off and go after passing enemies. ----------------- | [3.3] Carrier | ----------------- Location: Classified Forces: Seals vs. SDC Description ----------- Carrier is just that, it takes place on an aircraft carrier in the middle of who knows where. To one side of the map there is a series of walkways that act as the bridge, command center, whatever word you want to use for it. On the other side, lower down, is a long hallway that has an aircraft parked at one end and a tower at the other, where people can run through from one side to the other; this area tends to get busy, quick, with people attempting to move from end to end. The upper area of the map, where most of the action takes place, is littered with various obstacles; jet fighters, blockades, boxes, etc. There are plenty of items for you to run behind to dodge fire, crouch, lie prone and attempt to pick off people. There aren't many good sniping areas, and one of the locations that gives a good view, on top of a plane, still leaves you fairly vulnerable, as you can be attacked from front, sides and behind. --------------- | [3.4] Drone | --------------- Location: Deep Jungle, Myanmar Forces: Seals vs. SDC Description ----------- Drone takes place in a factory that manufacturers, you guessed it, drones. Right inside the facility usually produces a lot of close quarters combat, as people fight from end to end over a catwalk. Outside, there are plenty of spaces for snipers, and to be sniped. ----------------- | [3.5] Express | ----------------- Location: Los Angeles, U.S.A, Forces: Description This map takes place at the bullet train center in LA. There are often sniper duels at the end of the map near the tracks, as there is a middle sniper booth with two windows facing each side, each side being where people can come from. Inside the terminal, there is lots of small scale combat, and plenty of hiding spots to poke out from with a knife or pistol. Trains occasionally go by, and being hit by one will count as a death. ------------------ | [3.6] Hijacked | ------------------ Location: International Waters Forces: Seals vs. Marines Description My favorite map, for whatever reason, Hijacked takes place on a yacht lost at sea. It's a fairly small map, with not much to it. One side of the ship has an outer ledge that can allow for quick, unseen travel to the other side. The middle area has three cabanas of sorts, where you can run, hide and pursue. On each end of the map is an upper area, which allows for a good sniping position. One of these areas is a bedroom, the other side is the reverse of the bridge. Only one of these locations has just one entrance, the bridge; the bedroom has two possible entrances. Both of these locations are open, however, and a grenade can easily be tossed inside. ------------------ | [3.7] Meltdown | ------------------ Location: Balochistan Cliffs, Pakistan Forces: ISA vs. Militia Description In Meltdown, you fight in and around a nuclear power plant. Mm, nuclear. *drools* The bottom of the reactor is a huge circular area with tons of pillars, ideal for lots of strafing and close fighting. For snipers, there are a couple good spots, but like in any map, you're not fully secure. ------------------ | [3.8] Overflow | ------------------ Location: Peshawar, Pakistan Forces: ISA vs. Militia Description In a city in Pakistan, you'll be fighting mostly close together, as it's a tight, cramped area, like most cities. There is a large open area in the middle, which is the road, where snipers can take perch at opposite ends. Throughout the map, there are lots of buildings, twists and turns, making for a pretty intense fight. --------------- | [3.9] Plaza | --------------- Location: Indian Ocean Forces: ISA vs. Mercs Description Plaza is a shopping mall that's fairly open ended. The center area of the map is what is the actual plaza, with all the stores; there are plenty of places to run, hide and pick off. There are many small rooms dotting the plaza; you can run through the nightclub and listen to all the thumping music, there are maintenance rooms, rooms still under construction. In the center outdoor area of the map is a courtyard, which has, on each side, a perch for sniping. This sniping area is not enclosed, and has three possible ladder entrances (one from each side). Each far end of the map contains a small building just outside of the big building which leads to the plaza, and there are two outer ledges you can use to move around on each side of the map in an attempt to ambush players. ********** Tactic 1 (Submitted by JPaterson): I'm primarily a run and gunner, although I do love sniping sometimes, and my strategy in this map is to generally run along the edges. Depending on the spawn point, I'll head to the extreme left, and use the little shortcuts, of which there are only two or three, to skirt the large, open areas outside of the plaza, where I might be able to sneak up on people. After that, I continue my run through to the other side of the map, go inside the plaza via the maintenance area (looks like it's under construction), and head into the club (unst unst unst unst unst unst). I run into the middle, take out (or get taken out) by anybody there, then skirt across to the other side. As I'm doing this, each time I make a round, I'll hop up onto the elevated area in the middle of each side, to see if any snipers are there and hopefully kill them, assuming I'm not stupid and run into a mine or shock and get killed by the sniper. *************************** --------------- | [3.10] Raid | --------------- Location: Hollywood Hills, U.S.A. Forces: FBI vs. Mercs Description This time, you're fighting in a huge mansion (would you expect otherwise from Hollywood?) There are some decent sniper positions, especially the ones that overlook the middle courtyard; this area gets a lot of foot traffic. Also in this area is a pool that goes to the edge; if you venture too close, you'll fall off and get a death. The garage on either end holds some pretty fancy cars. Maybe a Vandalism challenge awaits? ---------------- | [3.11] Slums | ---------------- Location: Panama City, Republic of Panama Forces: ISA vs. Mercs Description My most hated map, Slums takes place in a ghetto part of Panama, with run down buildings, debris strewn everywhere, with lots of choke points for you to block off and ambush enemies. The middle courtyard is rife with firefights and bodies. ------------------- | [3.12] Standoff | ------------------- Location: Border Town, Kyrgyzstan Forces: Seals vs. Mercs Description I like this map, my second favorite one. It takes place on the border, hence the name, and is an old town, with lots of historic buildings, something you'd see in Old Europe. There are some decent vantage points for snipers, and lots of close quarters combat. Many paths lead around the map, allowing for a number of various ways to ambush people. ------------------ | [3.13] Turbine | ------------------ Location: Saraswat Steppes, Yemen Forces: Seals vs. Militia Description In the hills of Yemen, surrounded by destroyed turbines, airplane debris and control towers, are where you'll be engaging. There are tons of routes, tons of hiding spots, and even a few good sniping spots, moreso than other maps. There is a large bridge in the middle, which tends to get a lot of people, as well as control rooms on each end. ---------------- | [3.14] Yemen | ---------------- Location: Socotra Island, Republic of Yemen Forces: ISA vs. Militia Description Another hated map (of mine), Yemen is almost entirely composed of tight, cramped quarters, with various buildings in which you can hide, run through, and, most importantly, kill in. There are a few nice spots where if you manage to block yourself in (charges), you'll pretty much have a nice run of the map. =============================================================================== -------------------- | [4] Weapon Types | [WPNTY] -------------------- Black Ops II has quite a load of weapon options available, everything from heavy assault rifles to lightweight submachine guns to shotguns that will kill with one blast if you're close enough. Available: Major General II (Level 47) =============================================================================== ------------------- | [5] Attachments | [ATTCH] ------------------- ACOG ---- Provides additional magnification, at a cost to your ADS. Adjustable Stock ---------------- This attachment allows you to run faster while aiming your weapon (using manual aim). Ballistics CPU -------------- When you're aiming, your gun has a natural sway. This reduces that. Dual Band --------- This is a scope that provides night vision googles (for dark areas) as well as a thermal overly, which will highlight enemies by reading their heat signature. Dual Wield ---------- This attachment allows you to equip two pistols (no other guns). The downside is you lose the ability to sight aim. Extended Clip ------------- Increases ammo by 50%. Fast Mag -------- Reduces reload time. Full Metal Jacket ----------------- This attachment will let your bullets penetrate thicker surfaces, allowing you to potentially kill targets hiding behind walls and debris. Fore Grip --------- Reduces recoil. Grenade Launcher ---------------- Gives your gun (not pistols) a grenade attachment. Hybrid Optic ------------ Gives you the ability to toggle between a red-dot sight or something similar to the ACOG. Iron Sights ----------- For sniper rifles, it removes the scope and gives you a standard sight. Laser Sight ----------- Gives your gun a laser sight, which greatly increases hip fire accuracy. Millimeter Scanner ------------------ When sight aiming, this attachment periodically scans the area, which will highlight enemy bodies in red. This can occur through many surfaces. Quickdraw --------- Reduces time it takes to aim down your weapon when sight aiming. Rapid Fire ---------- Increases the speed at which your gun fires. Reflex ------ Replaces the standard sight with a red-dot. Select Fire ----------- Gives you the option of toggling burst fire or full automatic. Suppressor ---------- Reduces muzzle flash and stops you from showing up on the map when you fire, but you lose accuracy. Target Finder ------------- When sight aiming, this attachment puts a red diamond around enemy targets. This effect can be negated with the right perk. Variable Zoom ------------- A scope for your sniper rifle, it gives multiple zoom levels. =============================================================================== ------------- | [6] Perks | [PPERK] ------------- Slot 1 Perks ************ Lightweight ----------- Move faster. You get a total of ten choices, and with these ten choices you must decide what you want to take. Do you want a primary weapon decked out with three attachments? That's five points required right there (one for the weapon, one for each attachment, and one for the wildcard which gives you three attachments). Do you want two perks in each category? That's almost a full pick ten right (one point per perk, plus one point for two wildcards which allow you to take second perks). The game comes with five default classes which you are forced to play with, as you cannot create your own class until you hit level 4 (which should be two games, if that). Send me your class setups, and I'll add them here! ********** JPaterson's Pick 10s -------------------- I use two classes the most. The first I named Grunt.
