Changelog 9/1/2013 (v0.1 - 1.0) - FAQ created - added all stuff, including completed walkthrough and DLC list (1.0.1) - added my rank for Live Freemium or Die! 9/2/2013 (v1.0.2) - made several grammar changes, added in cost for DLC NPC Pack, and removed several line breaks. - added in clarification for the second to last step in Live Freemium or Die! walkthrough. - FAQ first uploaded 9/7/2013 (v1.1) - added Awardments section - updated spoilers and description notes - added link that I got Nice Try! awardment unlocking from (it's in the thx and stuff section.) - added links section - edited thx and stuff section - added more notes 0.2. Notes - if you want to quickly get to a certain part of this FAQ (like the walkthrough, of course), just search for one of the numbers shown in the table of contents WITH dots. if it isn't working, it's probably because you don't have the dots with it. - this FAQ covers the PC version of DLC Quest which includes both DLC Quest AND Live Freemium or Die!. - the walkthrough does not cover the game(s) 100%. it would be impossible to do it anyways, becuase coins. because of this, there will be no mentioning the DLC NPC storyline in Live Freemium or Die!, and the optional dialogue UNLESS people ask for it. - the Live Freemium or Die! walkthrough has SPOILERS in it, and so does the Awardments section, so try not to overread or anything like that. - the pack and awardment descriptions are (obviously) copied from the game for your information. - sooner or later (probably sooner), you will realize that 2 of the awardments do not show up in the steam achievement section of this game. that is because those two achievements are hidden, and getting those achievements would be like getting through contra with only three lives. I found out about this through a guide on steam (man I love it.) 1. WHAT IT DOES: Removes the "BUY POP" ads scattered around the game since the bginning of part 2. 3. Walkthrough 3.1. DLC Quest - cutscene. after that, you start the game. go right. there's no choice anyways, because you haven't gotten the movement pack yet. at the end (which is when you stop at the ledge), you will have 4 coins and be at the shopkeep. - open up the shop and buy the movement pack. you will have lost those precious coins, but at least you can go left and jump to get more of them. get more of them and then come back to buy the rest of the packs. - if you go all the way to the right, however, you'll find a bush. bushes can only be cut with a sword. - now go left. at the (other) end, jump. right then and there, you'll find the blacksmith and a grindstone. however, to make a sword, you'll need to do 10,000 turns on the grindstone. - now do more than a few turns on the grindstone. you'll now have the Time is Money Pack availible at the shopkeep. - however, by now, you're out of coins. but no fret! keep going left and there will be LOTS more coins AND sheep that you can kill! (that last one is going to be important soon.) - after the signs that come left of the grindstone, there is a hole. jump in. there's nothing to worry about because spikes don't appear until the next game. in there is a sheep, some coins, and a seemingly unreachable room with coins. however, if you look closely, you can see that part of the room (the bottom-left) is straight. that's because it's an indicator that there's a secret passage obscured by it. now get more coins. - now that you (presumably) have enough coins to buy the Time is Money Pack, go to the shopkeep and buy it. - go back to the grindstone and grind ten times. now you have a sword to cut bushes, like that one up at the very right. - now go all the way left, up to the sign saying "Warning! Reports of strange encounters in the area!" disregard that sign and continue until WOAH! after that, you'll be talking with random, who seems like a finall fantasy character who got redesigned by the developers. and then the Psychological Warfare Pack is unlocked. this is required to get past random and get to lotsa coins. - remember that bush at the very right that I talked about earlier? go back over there and cut it. after walking a few paces to the right, you'll unlock the Double Jump Pack, which is required to Double Jump (obviously). - there is also a hole that leads to cave. get the coins and go right. at the the end there will be a fork in the road (or cave, in this case). the top right one will take you back to the surface, while the right one (it's right for a reason) takes you to lotsa coins. disregard the signs, get the coins, and go back to the surface. - now you will have enough coins to get the Psychological Warfare Pack from the shopkeep. do that and encounter random again. (it's at the same place as the first time you encountered him, just to clear up things.) - you will have another conversation with him. this time however, he'll notice that you have the (Psychological Warfare) pack and ask for it. he will now leave you alone, allowing you to collect lotsa more coins. - there is a cave to the left of random. go in, get all the coins, go through the secret hallway next to the filler NPC that leads to that seemingly isolated room i talked about earlier, and you'll now have enough coins to buy the Double Jump Pack! - buy it. now you can access not one, but TWO more areas with lotsa coins! - now go to the far right of the zone. there will be a forest. however, you don't have a map, and you'll have to buy a Pack for it. the Map Pack will now be unlocked. - get enoguh coins (if you don't have enough already) and buy the (Map) pack. now go back to the forest, and move on to the last bits of the game. and that FBI looking guy you pass? he's the gunsmith, but you don't have a license yet. - now you will have arrived at part 2 of the game. however, if you want to go back to part 1, you'll need a night map. I'm not kidding. - talk to dime, the shopkeep's long lost brother. he'll be the one with DLC in this area. now go around and get lotsa coins. seriously, there is a LOT of coins in this part of the game. - now buy the Night Map Pack just to get it out of the way and go right until you see a troll. try and kill him. it does nothing but unlock the Gun Pack. - now go buy the Gun Pack and then go back to part 1 and talk to the gunsmith. - you now have a gun. go bakc to the troll and shoot him. it's a one hit kill. now go through the hallway and the credits will abruptly roll. one note, though: this isn't the real end of the game. several seconds into the credits, the Finish The Fight Pack will be unlocked. skip the credits and go back to the game to buy that (Finish The Fight) pack. now go through the hallway and a cutscene will play. after that, CONGRATULATIONS! you beat the game! (but not for long...) MY SCORE: 780/825 Coins 16/16 DLC Packs 7/10 Awardments 2 Hours 35 Minutes and 55.815 Seconds for Time Rank: C (Better Than Last Time!) 3.2. Live Freemium or Die! - notice. walk until gap. jump over for cutscene. after that, it's time to start playing! - during the cutscene I mentioned in the above line, a guy died from touching spikes. however, the notice says that you have early access to the four packs that would otherwise be paid for. jump over the spikes. - now fall down the hole and AVOID the coins while jumping to the graveyard (or at least don't buy the optional DLC). you'll learn why later. - while going left, you will pass by graves. but unlike the ones in DLC Quest, these can be READ YEAH!!! each one talks about who died and what. the first grave is that of the shepherd, but there's something fishy about it... - now go down the hole and wait through the loading screen. the Day One Patch Pack is now unlocked. - now go to the shopkeep. also, a few seconds after the (Day One Patch) pack is unlocked, the Checkpoint Pack is unlocked. both are required to speed up the game and ultimately complete it. and just to point out, the game now has zones, and right now you are in the Village Zone. go figure. - after buying both packs (don't buy particles, gosh dernit!), go left and pass that stool thingy. you are now saved at a chackpoint. - now go jump up all those platforms above the shopkeep and go right, and jump when needed. there you will find the mayor. talk to him. he talks about an important package that is SO important, he won't even give you a sword until he gets the package. - now jump all the way down and go right until you find three entrances to caves. the top-right one unlocks the Wall Jump pack and the top-left one is where the mayor's Incredibly Important Pack (it's a DLC) is. and don't even think about going down the bottom-left entrance until later. (plus, the top and bottom right entrances are blocked by vines, which can only be cut with a sword, so there.) - buy the (Incredibly Important) pack, go back to the mayor, and talk with him. mid-conversation, he'll give you a sword. you can now access the rest of the cave system and unlock the Wall Jump Pack (2.2.5.). - now go back to the top-right cave entrance to the east, cut the vines down, and enter. 2 seconds later, the Wall Jump Pack will be unlocked. now go get some coins, there's lotsa them in them caves! (NOTE: avoid the checkpoints. if you don't you're almost screwed.) - buy the (Wall Jump) pack. you will now be able to access the other zones in the game: Dark Zone, Allan Please Add Zone Name (nothing in it until you buy the Cut Content Pack (2.2.?.) after the first half of the game), and Outskirts Zone. that last one is where the monster is, so why don't we go there? - wall jump to the top and go right. disregard the sign and jump over the spikes. now go down. and encounter NOT random, but the shepherd, whose sheep he says had been killed by you. depending on how you played DLC Quest, he's either right or wrong, but no matter what, he still rises his sheep back up from the dead as zombies to kill you just like they killed the others. - during the cutscene, you may have noticed that there was a DLC pack behind the shepherd. that is the Harmless Plants Pack (2.2.6.). grab it and RUN. - now go to the shopkeep. you'll see that you don't have enough coins to buy it yet. good thing we're going to the DARK ZONE! - go left into the other entrance to the caves. if you haven't already, cut the vines. now wall jump up to the entrance to the dark zone. there are lotsa coins here. collect them. you know the drill. when you're done, go back down, and then go down again. you know the drill. - if you go all down, and then right, jump over a big bridge of death, you'll find a hole. jump down and go right until you see a guy named Groove. right next to him is his pickaxe. all this is going to be relevant later. honest. - now that you (hopefully) have enoguh coins, go back to the shopkeep, buy the harmless plants (pack), and go back to the outskirts zone. the Shepherd is killed (by you), and it's a happy end when suddenly the shopkeep (who is a greedy jerkbag) says that you aren't the hero. he is about to say one of the threats still remaining when you are supposedly disconnected fromt the server because it's always fun to laugh at jokes about DRM. - wait, and press the spacebar when needed. you are now back at the start of the game. (everything's still the same, though.) there are only three things different now: ONE there are ads TWO the shopkeep (who is now the villain) has been replaced with a digital kiosk and THREE you now have the ability to go straight to the dark zone from the beginning. - now go to the Kiosk (by now you'll know where it is) and open up the shop. the first (and only) thing you should notice is that there is a new pack (2.2.10.). get more coins to buy it. and don't even think about going back to the outskirts zone: the shopkeep banned you from it, and you need to buy DLC (2.2.11.) to get a new account. - now buy the (Cut Content) pack from the kiosk and go back up to the Dark Zone. go left until you pass another checkpoint. you are now in the Allan Please Add Zone Name zone (or APAZN), the trickiest zone in the game. and there's lotsa coins, so get enough of those too. - go back to the kiosk. you should have enough coins to get a new account, so do that. cutscene showing how desperate people have to go when it comes for usernames. after that, back to playing! - go back to the outskirts zone and examine the ban pillar. the ban should now be lifted, but going a little farther will present to you another problem: there are some rocks, and there's no DLC for a pickaxe. however, that's because Groove (the guy with the hat and beard who is definately a caricature of Notch) already has one. - go back to the caves and talk to Groove. he'll ask for a thing that a friend possesses. that friend is Fletch, who is in APAZN. - go to APAZN and talk to Fletch. before he gives you the object (nah, MacGuffin will work just fine), he has a list of things that he wants you to fetch (I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE) for him. go up top, and you'll find a Box of Various Supplies, which contains everything Fletch needs. - Talk to Fletch. at the end of the conversation, he will give you the Humble Indie Bindle, which is only a pun. go back to Groove, talk to him, and you'll now have a pickaxe! (no crafting, though.) - the pickaxe is now your primary (and only) usable weapon for the rest of the game. go back to where the rocks are at the outskirts zone. they won't be there anymore. - after clearing the rocks, continue into the Pop Zone Brought to You by Pop! zone. there are lotsa coins here, but there isn't much else. however, there IS another DLC Kiosk. go on to the winter zone. - just when you enter [the winter zone], the screen will be clouded up with snow until you leave OR get the Season Pass (2.2.16.). after buying (the season pass), you can move through the winter zone quickly and carefully. continue to Showdown Zone - and now you're at Showdown Zone to kill the shopkeep BUT WAIT! you need 200 coins to get in! and if you bought all the DLC (like me), you need to get every last coin in the game. back track and find all the coins you missed, because it's going to take awhile. (unless you didn't buy all the DLC, in which case you might be good. maybe.) - after that, it's time face off with the shopkeep! he'll throw stuff and coins (and hearts if you get hurt), and after you get enough coins, he'll come down from the ledge to sell you a sword. the third time kills him and SPOILER destroys the world.
