By Christopher Coulstock aka Fierkraag (fierkraag@live.co.uk) ------------------------------ ------------------------------ Version history V0.6 (4/10/10) Second version ------------------------------ Author's notes ------------------------------ Hi this is my first walkthrough/guide. Now have new power supply so will be starting to upgrade walkthrough with new info. Also do not send me info on items not listed or what monsters drop what items, or ingredients for fusion. I will accept info on what items fill what requirements for items, like which items are warm or holy etc, also do tell me if you find I have made a mistake somewhere. If the info checks out and I was not already aware of it then you will be acknowledged in the acknowledgments at the bottom of this guide. ------------------------------ Version History ------------------------------ 4/10/10 v0.6 Item list increased to 54% completion List of fusion items started ------------------------------ Contents ------------------------------ Introduction Characters Adventurers Game play Items Fusion Acknowledgements Credits ------------------------------ Introduction ------------------------------ Recettear is a simple easy to enjoy game about the running of an item shop. Originally released in Japan by easygame station in 2007. Released in Europe and America in 2010 by Carpe Fulgur. The story centres on the girl Recette and the fairy Tear, as they attempt to make enough money to pay off Recette's father's debts. ------------------------------ Characters ------------------------------ Recette: A young girl who is forced to open an item store to pay off the loan her father took out or she will lose her home and end up on the streets. Recette is a happy, somewhat carefree girl, though can be seen as being somewhat of a ditz. Tear: A fairy contracted by Terme finance to get their loan back. She forces Recette to open an item store to make the money needed to pay off the loan. She is a serious bookish person, who is often telling Recette off for doing something stupid. Merchant's guild master: A kind helpful man. Can be found in the merchant's guild all the time, due to avoiding his wife. Louie: A poor adventurer who has just arrived in the town of Pensee. Charme: A lady thief who Recette encounters in a dungeon. She takes a liking to Recette and can often be found in the pub having a drink or 10. Alouette: A spoiled rich kid, who is often accompanied by the fairy Prime. Her parents are the owners of the store chain Big bash. She fancies herself Recette's rival. Prime: A fairy who accompanies Alouette and refers to her as young mistress. Elan: A priest in training. He likes to go to the orphanage to make the kids happy. Dreams of one day opening his own orphanage in the country. Cailou: A young mage. He is often trying to act older than he really is. Seems to know Elan Tielle: A young elf archer. She is often looking for her sister after having gotten lost in a dungeon. She also loves sweets. Arma: A mysterious woman. She has no concept of money and needs Recette to explain it to her as well as what an item store. Griff: A demon who is trying to restore his race to power. Nagi: A Young woman from Eastern lands who gets lost so much that she managed to get to get to Pensee while trying to find her way home. Euria: An annoying conwoman who is constantly trying to make money by ridiculously overcharging items ------------------------------ Adventurers ------------------------------ During the game you are quite likely to go and explore dungeons to pick up free items. When going to the dungeons you will take an adventurer with you and there is a varied selection to choose from. Louie: Louie is the first adventurer you will find. He can be found in the adventurer's guild and wants you to go to the hall of trials with him. Once you have completed the hall of trials with him he will give you his card. Louie is the easiest adventurer to control and he uses a sword and shield. He has a useful ability which allows him to block non-magic ranged attacks as long as he is facing the attack and is not attacking. Louie also has a medium attack range and a medium attack arc. Skills Spin slash: A spin attack that hits those immediately next to Louie and does about double damage to the enemies. Vacuum blade: A ranged attack that will hit those in front of Louie. Does less damage than a normal attack. Charme: Charme may very well be the second adventurer you will find. She is first encountered on the 15th floor of Jade way. To unlock her you must first defeat her on the 15th floor of Jade way. Then sometime later she will start appearing in your store until she eventually gives her card. Charme is a fast and agile character who fights with daggers. She has a dash which can be performed by double tapping a direction button. Her dash can change directions, but will be stopped if she hits anything and will be knocked down. According to the game Charme can also block attacks by pressing the appropriate directional button at the right time, though I have yet to see this happen. Skills Mirror image: A copy of Charme is created next to her; it can not be harmed, but it can inflict damage the same as Charme. Flame charge: A fiery charge that hits anything in its path Elan: To get Elan you must have Charme. Then if you visit the pub you will eventually see a scene where, when talking to Charme you will see Elan get told that he can't have drinks put on his tab. After this scene go to the merchants guild and the guild master will send you to deliver something and while doing so you will encounter Elan again. After this Elan will sometimes visit your store till he gives you his card. Elan is a fist fighter and uses gloves, he has the shortest attack range, but he can chain attacks together. Elan also has a dash, while he can not change directions, when he hits an enemy while dashing he will hurt them. Skills Flame charge: A fiery charge that hits anything in its path. Fist flurry: Elan charges forward a short distance and if he encounters an enemy, he will launch a combo of attacks which will do a large amount of damage Cailou: To get Cailou you must first reach merchant lvl 7, which will allow you to take orders in advance. Then Cailou will come into your store and order a slime liver, a charred lizard and a bat wing. All of these items can be found in Jade way. The slime liver is only dropped by the slime king, so you may need to fight this boss a few times. The charred lizard is dropped by the 10th floor boss Dresden as well as by the Gnoll's. The bat wing is dropped by the eyebats found on the floors from 11th to 14th of Jade way. They are also found in the dungeons after Jade way. After getting the items and selling them to Cailou, Cailou will start visiting your store to buy items till he eventually gives his card to you. Cailou is the standard mage, powerful magic attacks and very fragile as well as using staves as his weapons. His normal attack is not easy to use; he can just attack or charge his attack up and launches a ranged attack. There are problems with this though; the basic attack takes a moment to happen leaving Cailou vulnerable for a moment. Also his charged attack while charging will not allow Cailou to move, he can change direction but that is all. Skills Pyrobomb: An explosion that is centred on Cailou and hits all the enemies around him. Ice mine: A block of ice is launched a short way in front of Cailou it then causes an ice spire which will hurt any enemies that touch it for the period of time it is there. Sparkburst: a torrent of missiles is launched in front of Cailou in a small arc. Tielle: To get Tielle you must first beat her at the end of Amber gardens, after this you must first wait an extra night for Tielle to come down form Recette's room. After this Tielle will visit the shop every so often till she finally gives Recette her card. Tielle is an archer, using the bow and arrow. Her normal attack is potentially very powerful. Her attack can be charged and has multiple levels. The basic attack without charging consists of a solitary arrow that goes about halfway across the screen. There are 6 levels of charged attack, though the 6th level requires the skill cuterage. Power 1: 1 arrow of greater power than uncharged attack, will go endlessly, but can only hit enemies that are on screen. Power 2: 3 arrows are launched in an arc in front of Tielle Power 3: 5 arrows are launched in an arc in front of Tielle Power 4: 5 arrows are launched in an arc in front of Tielle and 1 arrow behind. Power 5: 5 arrows are launched in an arc in front of Tielle and 3 arrows in an arc behind. Power 6: only capable during cuterage, same as power 5 only more damage. Skills Flame arrow 4sp: Basically a ranged version of the flame charge that Charme and Elan have Seeker arrow 5sp: A homing ranged attack. Perfect for hitting those enemies that can fly up out of range, or an enemy you can't reach but can see. Starshot arrow 8sp: Beams of energy come down near Tielle from the sky. Cuterage 10sp: causes your normal attacks to charge up to full level in a moment and makes power level 6 available for the period of time cuterage is active. Nagi: You will find Nagi at first in dungeons, which dungeon doesn't matter as she can be found in any. After meeting her in dungeons four times she will eventually come and visit your shop, after this she will come and buy items from you store occasionally until she finally gives you her card. Nagi is a lancer and uses spears; she has a long attack range for a melee fighter but she has an incredibly narrow attack arc, in fact she just thrusts in front of her. Like Louie Nagi can parry non magical ranged attacks, as long as she is facing the attack. Nagi also can dash and hurts the enemies she hits head on, she can't turn while dashing but she can strafe from side to side. Skills Flame charge 5sp: basic fire based charge attack Hundred thrusts 8sp: Nagi fires off a torrent of thrusts in front of her in a small arc. Good attack for hitting a large enemy like a boss. Griff: To get Griff you must first defeat him on top of Obsidian tower on the 50th floor. After this Griff will occasionally visit your store as long as it has a somewhat dark atmosphere. Eventually he will give you his card. On a side note I have seen people say that you can only get Griff during Endless mode, this is a lie as I have gotten him before the debt is all paid back. Griff uses claws and unlike Elan has a decent attack rage and has the largest attack arc of any character, making him an effective fighter. Griff is another character who can dash but unlike the other dashes his one is short range. The important thing is that while dashing Griff turns invisible and can not be hit, he will hit treasure chests though. Skills Dark claw 10sp: A charge attack but it takes a moment to start. Demon soul 20sp: This causes an aura to appear around Griff that for a period of time causes Griff's attack power to increase and attack speed to get faster. On the other hand though while it is active items can not be used. Vampiric vortex 30sp: A black hole is generated in front of Griff, it sucks in nearby enemies and damages them and transfers a portion of the damage into hp for Griff. Arma: Mysterious robotic girl, more information to come later. ------------------------------ Game play ------------------------------ Game play can be split into two areas. First is the town of Pensee which contains your item store. The second area is the dungeons. So this section of the guide will be split into two sections, one for the town and the other for the dungeons. ------------------------------ Town of Pensee ------------------------------ The town of Pensee contains several areas. These areas are first your item store where you sell items. The merchants guild where you can buy equipment, create fusion items and buy expansions for your shop. Third is the market, this place is not open during the last segment of time. Here you can buy a variety of items, like wallpaper, vendors, food and other items that are not available at the merchant's guild, note that ingredients can not be bought in town. Fourth is the Adventurers guild which is where you go to start your trips into dungeons. Lastly there are areas that are only for story scenes, these are the pub which is only open during the last two segments of time, the church and the town square. Your item shop is the most important place in the game as this is where you sell your items and buy some items as well. The item store has three expansions that can be bought after you have reached the appropriate merchant lvl. At first you start with a small store with three counters, the first expansion costs 10k pix and increases the store size a little bit and adds one extra counter to your shop. The second expansion will cost 30k pix and will take you up to a total of 6 counters. The third expansion costs 100k and will increase the amount of counters you have to 10, the shop will also be pretty large now. ------------------------------ Dungeons ------------------------------ The dungeons are where you can go with an adventurer to find items for your shop. The dungeons are filed with monsters, treasure chests and traps. There are a variety of enemies and they will be described fully in another section but a brief description can be found in the descriptions of the dungeons below. There are also a number of traps in the dungeons. The traps come in two varieties, field based and chest based. Field based traps are those that trigger when simply wandering around the dungeon, these include but are not limited to rock falls, giant spinning fish and bombs. The chest based traps are traps that look like treasure chests and are triggered when you try to open them, these include but are no limited to summoning slimes, bombs and creating snow on the entire map for a period of time. There are five dungeons in this game; you will start with access to only the first one, the Hall of trials. Hall of trials 5 floors Enemies: Slimes, Gnolls, tentacle monsters Enemy drops: slime fluid, This is the easiest dungeon in the game, though since you are using a lvl 1 Louie you may have problems with it. So before entering make sure to get food and if you think about getting Louie some equipment, then you will want to get him some appropriate armour and not a weapon, as the armour will be more helpful. This dungeon consists of 5 floors but only 4 of them have monsters on them. On the first floor all you will encounter are slimes, on the second floor there will be still only slimes but there is a new stronger red slime. On the third floor there is a new monster available the Gnoll, you can recognise these enemies by their dog heads, they will try to hit you with a charge attack. On the fourth floor you meet your next new enemy the tentacle monster, recognised by all of its flailing tentacles, this monster can be annoying as they will drain your hp and add it to their own. On the fifth floor all you will find is a treasure chest that will contain a card for Louie to give you, then the red exit door will appear and you can leave this dungeon with it finished. Jade way 15 floors Enemies: slimes, Gnolls, Tentacle monsters, rabbits, hornets, hopping mushrooms, burying mushrooms, Knights, eyebats Enemy drops: Slime fluid, honey, water mushrooms, insect traps, cotton tail, charred lizard, bat wing, This is the second dungeon; you can access it as soon as you have completed the hall of trials. For the first four floors you will encounter the same enemies as in the hall of trials with the addition of hornets and rabbits, both of which can be quite annoying. The rabbit is a green and white enemy which is notable for dodging attacks by jumping backwards, the best way to deal with it is to back it against a wall where it can not get away and then kill it. The hornet is the first flying enemy you encounter, it is a small enemy looking like a wasp/hornet, it flies out of range while dropping down into range every so often and then charging at you, also if it his you your character will be slowed for a small period of time. On the fifth floor you will encounter your first boss the Slime king. The slime king is a giant slime with a crown and is accompanied by a smaller slime. The slime king fights by jumping towards you then a few seconds after jumping will reduce in size and the smaller the size of the slime king the more damage he takes from a hit. After reducing in size 2/3 times the accompanying slime will fuse with the slime king restoring the king to full size, but does not restore health. Thus your attack plan should be to first destroy the accompanying slime, while he will be replaced it will take a little while and will give you enough time to inflict some serious damage and perhaps even kill the king. Once dead the slime king may drop either a slime liver or a slime stone. Then you can either take the red door to exit the dungeon or use the portal to go to the next floor. On the sixth to ninth floors you can expect to encounter the previous enemies as well as the burying and hopping mushrooms. The hopping ones basically jump around everywhere and are easy to kill. The burying mushrooms are like a whack-a-mole game as they appear in a spot for a few moments before burying down and then reappearing somewhere else. On the 10th floor you encounter the giant rat Dresden. He will wander around and try to hit you with his crowbar as well as occasionally blowing bubbles at you. You will also notice the red and purple mushrooms; once Dresden has taken some damage he will go and eat one of the mushrooms. If he eats a red mushroom his health will be restored, while if he eats a purple one he will be knocked onto his back for a few moments and will also take more damage during this period. Thus your tactic should be to kill any red mushrooms that will appear and then inflict some damage to Dresden until he goes and eats a purple mushroom then attack him when he falls; after he has gotten back up just avoid his attacks till he eats a mushroom again. Keep it up until he dies. He may drop either a charred lizard or a tail. From the 11th to fourteenth floors you will encounter the same enemies as before with the addition of eyebats and knights. While they are fliers eyeball bats never rise out of range like other fliers. All they do is launch a ranged non magic attack at you; they are a pretty easy enemy to deal with. The knights on the other hand are quite a pain; you will recognise them by the armour, sword and shield they carry. While facing you they will use their shields to block all attacks and they often turn to block ranged attacks. They are vulnerable from the sides and back though and if you can hit them there they are not that strong. On the fifteenth floor you will encounter the lady thief Charme; this can be quite a challenging battle as unlike the previous bosses she is small and fast using Louie it can be somewhat hard to hit her before she hits you. His spinning attack can be quite helpful though. Charme will throw nets on the floor that at first appear small but will expand and if you get caught on them you will be slowed down. Charme will also do a charge attack. It's best to try and hit her then run out of range then hit and run till she is defeated. Once she is defeated all that will be left is the red exit door and a treasure chest and if you're very lucky Charme may have dropped a copy of the book Booze of the world. The first time you beat Charme the chest will contain a very odd vase which has a base price of 21500 pix. Afterwards though the chest will contain a random item like normal chests. Amber garden 25 floors Enemies: Enemy drops: The Amber garden can not be opened till after you have completed Jade way, due to the fact that Charme is the character who tells you that it is open. The only condition needed besides completion of Jade way is to see a scene at the town square where you see an elf girl (Tielle) looking for her sister, once you have done both of these things Charme eventually turns up in your shop and tells you of the new dungeon. Obsidian tower 50 floors Enemies: Enemy drops: Obsidian tower requires Amber garden to be completed, then at night during the last segment of time you can meet Griff at the town square. Once you have done this two times, Griff will show up at your shop, providing the shop has a sufficiently dark atmosphere. After this Louie will show up at your shop and tell you of a new ruin that has been found. At first you will only be able to create. Rank 1 fusion items but as you gain more merchant lvls you will start to be able to create more fusion items. On the fusion screen you will see a list of items to create. At first the list will merely state the rank of the item and what type of item so e.g. rank 1 Sword. Once you have created an item this will change to display the item name instead. On the list the names will appear in 3 colours grey, white and green. Grey means that you don't know what one or more of the ingredients are. White means you know what all of the ingredients are but you do not have enough ingredients to create the item. Green thus means that you have with you all the items needed to create the item. I will be putting a list below of the fusion items that I know all of the ingredients for, with the ingredients and number of ingredients shown Rank 1 items Gilded sword: longsword 1, water crystal 1 Survival knife: Crafters knife 1, fin fan 1 Cloth beater: magician's staff 1, back scratcher 1, bat wing 5 Rosewood bow: long bow 1, herb seed 1 Silver spear: Iron spear 1, Star sand hourglass 1 Power glove: Sturdy glove 1, Honey 3 Adventure clothes: tough clothes 1, furball 8 Warm robe: warm hat 1, furball 3, natural heater 1 Chainmail shirt: Adventure clothes 1, popular charm 1, chestnut 10 Knight armour: iron armour 1, cat statue 1 Maidens bracelet: iron armband 1, insect trap 5 Paella pan: potstand 1, shark fin 1, water shroom 5 Sam's hat: cloth hat 1, handknitt muffler 1, furball 5 Knight's helm: warrior's helm 1, thankful statue 1, slime liver 1 Azure necklace: shell necklace 1, charred lizard 1 Romantic's cape: cloth cape 1, special inkwell 1 Plaid muffler: Handknitt muffler 2, toothpicks 10, red oil 3 Mermaid shoes: leather boots 1, water crystal 1 Healing ring: broken ring 3, powerful antivenom 3, nut mix 3 Rank 2 items Twisted blade: pure edge 1, earth crystal 3 Rocket glove: champion glove 1, gunpowder 10, red oil 5 White breastplate: King-shell chest 1, tough shell 5 Miracle charm: shell charm 1, gaseous grass 5, eternal ice 1 Rune amulet: azure necklace 1, ghost tear 3 Rank 2 muffler: Legendary scarf 1, tail 1, honey 10 Rank 2 ring: broken ring 10, gaseous grass 2 Rank 3 items Rank 3 treasure: perfume staff 2, insect trap 30, charred lizard 10 Apple pie: paella pan 1, honey 5, red oil 3 Rank 3 medicine: medicine base 1, air crystal 1 Rank 3 medicine: medicine base 1, fire crystal 1 Solid concoction: medicine base 1, water crystal 1 Firmament floor: insect king shell 1, flint 2, earth crystal 1 Rank 3 wallpaper: lacquer walls 1, romantic's cape 2, furball 20 Rank 3 counter: focus staff 30, polite children, and back scratcher 5 ------------------------------- Acknowledgements ------------------------------- Thanks to the German shepherd Emma for being neutered and causing me to have to be stuck babysitting her for a couple of days leaving me bored and willing to write this.
