This is a walkthrough for the PC game Freddi Fish 3: The Case of the Stolen Conch Shell. Published by Humongous Entertainment in 1998, FF3: TCotSCS is an adventure game designed for young audiences using a modified version of SCUMM, the game engine that famously powers almost all of LucasArts's most well-known adventure games from the 1990s. The Humongous Entertainment version of SCUMM simplifies the interface to two basic actions. You can click on objects to interact with them and/or cause something to happen that will progress the story; and you have an inventory of items that you can use in order to progress the story. FF3 continues the adventures of Freddi Fish and Luther, the Freddi Fish series's main protagonists. In this game, they are flying in to visit Uncle Blenny, but when they arrive, they find him locked up in jail! Turns out, the Great Conch Shell, which hails the beginning of the annual Founders Day Parade, was stolen! As Grand Exalted Keeper of the Conch, Blenny was blamed and sentenced to prison. It's up to you to prove Blenny's innocence and save the day! [300] +- -+ | | 03. Walkthrough | | +- -+ The first two sections (The Golden Pipes and The Hidden Temple) both start with maps to help you if you get lost and don't know where to find something. I've also labeled each room the way I will call it in the specific walkthrough sections. I have marked the Purple Sea Urchins in all the areas that I've seen them in the (at least) 50 times that I've played the game. If you have a screenshot of a Purple Sea Urchin in another location that I haven't marked, please contact me and let me know. The contact info is on the top and bottom of this guide. There are a number of Easter eggs and mini-games in this game. For brevity's sake, I have chosen not to include all of them in this guide, focusing instead on guiding you through the main story. You are encouraged to click around each screen as you play, though; you never know what kind of crazy stuff might happen! In addition, you can play Critter Flip by giving Gill Barker four Purple Sea Sea Urchins. This Match Four-type game can be a neat diversion, and it is sometimes necessary to play this game in order to get one of the Golden Pipes, as noted below. Inside Gill's Carnival, just past the Grandma Grouper fortune teller machine, is an organ pipe that is playable. You will sometimes need to get a Golden Pipe here as well, as noted below. Descend into the water and you'll reach a netted cave entrance. Click on the jug with the plug and you'll pull the plug out, lifting the net and allowing you to advance to the Town Square. Be sure and pick up the plug before you do; you may need it later. +- -+ | | 03a. The Golden Pipes | | +- -+ In the first part of the game, you'll be searching around the areas for the missing three Golden Pipes to the Great Conch Shell. Every time you start a new game, the Pipes will be placed at random. What follows is my guide for obtaining each Golden Pipe. Each piece was written independently of the others, so you can jump in and find just the Golden Pipes you need. My advice before you do anything is to go through each and every room until you know exactly where the three Golden Pipes are for your playthrough, then go back and start solving the puzzles. This way, you don't have to do anything extraneous, like collecting Purple Sea Urchins for Gill Barker if you don't need the Mirror. Clam Entrance ------------- The Golden Pipe is inside the clam, but every time you try to grab for it, the clam snaps shut on you. You'll need Horst Fedder's Shimshamjibbidyjamflabberjabber (Shimsham from now on) to get the pipe. First, go to the Volcano. There should be a wallet on the ground. Pick it up and listen to Freddi describe the owner. Find that owner (it should be simple enough based on the description) and give them the wallet. That person will let you have an Orange Sea Urchin as thanks. Now go back to Pelican Sam and give him the Orange Sea Urchin in exchange for the Phrase Book. Return to Horst Fedders and use the book. Flip through the pages until you find the flag that matches the one on Horst's bag, then click on it and click the upper-right arrow. Use the book on Horst and you'll be able to communicate. He'll give you the Shimsham as a gift. Now go back to the Clam Entrance and use the Shimsham on the clam to retrieve the Golden Pipe. Submarine --------- The Golden Pipe is locked up in a glass case. To get it, you need the key, which is located on the Beach. Grab the key, come back to the Submarine, and use the key to open the lock. Done. Organ ----- The Golden Pipe is jammed inside one of the organ pipes. The usual musical buttons will be replaced with colored addition and subtraction numbers: Yellow: +1, +2, +3 Blue: +2, +4, +6 Purple: -1, -2, -3 The number indicates the direction and number of pipes the Golden Pipe will travel. Plus signs bring the Pipe closer to you, while negative signs push the Pipe back. Maneuver the Pipe to the very end of the organ and you'll be able to retrieve it. As with most things in this game, the layout of the colored pipes will be different each time you play the game. Tunnel ------ When you first go into the Tunnel, you won't be able to see a thing! Frustrating, especially since, if the Tunnel entrance is there (it won't always be there in every game you play), it means there's a Golden Pipe in there! As it happens, Claw has a flashlight that will help you out a lot, but he's a meanie and won't give it up. You'll have to scare him into it. First, go around the area and collect four Purple Sea Urchins. Their locations are conveniently marked on the map in this guide. The appearances of the Sea Urchines are randomized each time you start a new game. Once you have four Purple Sea Urchins, go to Gill Barker and give him the Sea Urchins. He'll let you play his latest carnival game, Critter Flip. Match up four of the same type of critter to clear them from the board. Try not to let too many critters stack up, or you'll lose and have to start over. When you win (and only if you need to obtain the Flashlight), Barker will present you with the Mirror as a prize. Now go back to Claw and use the Mirror on him. Terrified of his own reflection, he'll give up the Flashlight. Now go back to the Tunnel. Use the Flashlight and you'll be able to see! Move the mouse around to shine the light on various parts of the cave; you'll scare off a bunch of fishies, but the Golden Pipe will be resting in one of the alcoves. Terrific Tumbler ---------------- To get access to the Terrific Tumbler, go to the Terrific Tumbler Entrance. You'll see a dogfish on a leash and a snapping clam in the upper part of the area. Click the dogfish and he'll try to devour the vines blocking your way inside, but will be stopped short by the leash. So, click the dogfish, then immediately click the clam. The clam will unleash the dogfish, who will devour the vines and let you into the Terrific Tumbler. The Golden Pipe will be inside one of the twirly tubes. Typically, it's the teal one in the center, but I've seen it show up in some of the other tubes as well. In any case, to get it, just manipulate the knobs in the lower-left. Each knob will open up one of the tubes, indicated by bubbles pouring out of either entrance to the tube. Once you've opened the tube that holds the Pipe, hit the PLAY button (it's the triangle pointing to the right) and Luther will be sucked into the tubes. As he passes through the tube with the Pipe, he'll automatically pick it up. Crossroads 2 (X Roads 2 on map) ------------------------------- At Crossroads 2, you'll see a cage with the Golden Pipe next to a white towel. The cage is missing a nut, so you can't open it yet. First, go to the Terrific Tumbler. There should be a white glove on the ground here; pick it up. Now go to the Submarine. There's a Wrench in the, erm, iron maiden-looking clam on the front seat. (Submarines don't even... oh, never mind.) Use the Glove to get the Wrench. Now go to Nadine. She's sad, because she has a nut on her tusk. Use the Wrench to free her from her despair and you'll have the nut. Now go back to Crossroads 2 and use the nut on the cage to fix it, then get the Golden Pipe. Beach ----- The Golden Pipe is on top of a palm tree. To get it, you need Magenta the Monkey. Unfortunately, she's trapped at sea. Go out to her boat. You'll see that she's had to plug a leak in her boat with her sail. Give her the plug you picked up at the beginning of the game. Luther will rip the sail as he's freeing it -- oh no! Fortunately, there happens to be an excellent tailor named Pierre back in town, so go to Pierre's and give him the sail. He'll fix it right up, and at no cost! Go back to Magenta and give her the sail back, and she'll be able to float back to the Beach. Once she's there, click on the Golden Pipe to ask her to retrieve it for you as a favor for fixing her boat. She obliges, and you get the Pipe. Waterfall Cave -------------- To get into the Cave, go to Nadine and pick up the green shovel nearby. Now go back to the Waterfall and use the shovel to dig out the log. Push the log a few times until it's directly underneath the Waterfall. You'll be able to pass under the log and go inside. You'll see the Golden Pipe being coddled by a colorful bird; if you click on the bird, she'll freak out and drop a feather. Collect the feather, then go to Pierre's. You'll see that one of his hats has an egg for a feather. (Now that one's sure to rip up the catwalk!) Use the feather on the egg (or give it to Pierre) and you'll get the egg. Go back to the bird and trade the egg for the Golden Pipe. [320] +- -+ | | 03b. The Hidden Temple | | +- -+ Key (these refer to the color-coded doors) R = Red B = Blue G = Green P = Pot Luther's Cage | | Hub 1-----R-G-----Red Crystal----------G----------Hub 3---G---Green Crystal | | | | B P | | | Key Room Hub 2----Nothing Pot Room | B | Blue Crystal Luther is trapped in a cage! To get him out, you need the Key. First, go to the Key Room. You'll see the Key bathed in one of three colors -- red, blue, or green. The color it is bathed in is the color Crystal you need to get the Key safely. Now go to the Pot Room. There will be a chisel resting on the floor; pick it up. Then go to the room of the color Crystal you need and use the chisel to get the Crystal. Now go back to the Key Room and use the Crystal in the hole in the statue's palm. You can now pick up the Key safely, so pick it up and go back to Luther's Cage. Use the Key on the keyhole to free Luther. [330] +- -+ | | 03c. The Culprit | | +- -+ As the mob gathers to lynch Uncle Blenny (yeah, I thought this was a kids' game too), Freddi and Luther intervene. Freddi will pull an item out of the bag left at the temple that conclusively proves who the real thief is. It's your job to make the final accusation. The object naturally corresponds to a characteristic feature of the various characters, so here's the list of items and the characters to which they correspond. +________________________________________________+ | Item | Character | -------------------------------------------------- | Microphone | Rosy Pearl | -------------------------------------------------- | Tourist Map | Horst Fedders | -------------------------------------------------- | Needle & Thread | Pierre | -------------------------------------------------- | Claw-shaped Boxing Glove | Claw | -------------------------------------------------- | Toothbrush | Nadine | -------------------------------------------------- | Cane | Gill Barker | +------------------------------------------------+ After the last cutscene, and a brief epilogue telling what happened to the culprit as a result of being caught, the game is over!
