Introduction -------------------------------------------------------------------- BeetleJuice: Skeletons in the Closet is a nifty little DOS game that I’ve owned for quite a while now. When I was younger it was one of the only games that I liked playing on my computer. Now I’m older and have many, MANY more games to play, but it is still nice to look back and remember BeetleJuice. -------------------------------------------------------------------- B. Game Controls -------------------------------------------------------------------- Space Bar – Uses BeetleJuice’s Attack Arrow Keys – Moves BeetleJuice Q – Quits Game Esc – Pauses Game -------------------------------------------------------------------- C. Basic Overview & Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- BeetleJuice has over a hundred levels that get more and more difficult as you progress. There is no certain strategy for each level, just try your best and keep these basic things in mind. - BeetleJuice will die from one hit from ANYTHING. So make sure to stay on your toes and keep moving. - If Lydia is locked into a cage by a skeleton, go after the weakest skeleton first. Hopefully he will have the Lightning power up that freezes all the skeletons and frees Lydia. - If you knock down a skeleton and he gets back up before Lydia has the chance to vacuum him up, then his strength will increase and he may take additional hits to kill. - If you see beetles crawling around, eat them! Each time you eat a beetle, you get a letter. Spell out “truth” and every enemy on the screen dies, and they won’t get back up at all. You can go collect all the power ups that you want and let Lydia do the rest. - The more points you get the more extra lives you get! - I recommend hitting all of the non-skelton enemies to sedate them and keep them from attacking you while you are fighting skeletons at the beginning of each battle. Also eat all the beetles at the beginning of each stage. - I also recommend using the Head power up. It will knock down any skeleton, regardless of color. -------------------------------------------------------------------- D. Enemies Guide -------------------------------------------------------------------- White Skeleton – These can be knocked down with a single shot from any weapon. They will kill you with one hit while moving around, but can not hurt you while they are knocked down into a pile of bones. Blue Skeleton – These take two hits to knock down. They will kill you with one hit while moving around, but can not hurt you while they are knocked down into a pile of bones. Red Skeleton – Take three hits to knock down. They will kill you with one hit while moving around, but can not hurt you while they are knocked down into a pile of bones. Sand Worms – Can not be hurt or killed. You must dodge the sand worms by not standing still for too long. If you stand in one place for too long, they will come up and eat you. You will know when to move when you hear a little sound. Jacques LaLean (the French skeleton) – Despite Jacques being BeetleJuice’s friendly neighbor in the cartoon, Jacques will not hesitate to attack BeetleJuice now. Jacques can not be killed, but can be sedated. If you see Jacques running really fast, shoot him with any move. If it connects, Jacques will slow down and walk. He can not hurt you while he is walking, but he will instantly kill you if he is running. Ginger (the tap dancing spider) – Same strategy as Jacques LaLean. The Monster Across the Street – Same strategy as Jacques LaLean and Ginger. -------------------------------------------------------------------- E. Power Ups -------------------------------------------------------------------- Lightning – Freezes all enemies on the screen, and frees Lydia if she is imprisoned in a cage. Head – Gives BeetleJuice the ability to shoot his head off. His head will fly off of his body like a boomerang and instantly knock down any skeleton it hits, even if it is a more powerful blue or red skeleton. Spit – Allows BeetleJuice to spit at his enemies. Each hit takes the skeleton down a color, or if he is already down to white, it knocks him down. For example, spitting at a red one, will make him turn blue, spitting at a blue will turn him white, and spitting at a white will knock him down. But the skeletons will regain their color if it takes too long for a second hit to connect. You can get additional Spit power ups to be able to have a more rapid spit attack. TRUTH – This power up is gained by eating enough beetles to spell the word “truth”. All skeletons will instantly fall over into a pile and Lydia can go vacuum them all up. Other enemies will still be able to attack and kill you though so watch out. Explosion - BeetleJuice shoots pits all around him in every direction. A very helpful move. Can hurt many enemies at once. Head full of Worms - Simply gives BeetleJuice more points. -------------------------------------------------------------------- F.
