INTRODUCTION CODE : INT1 =--=-=-=-=--===---=-==-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==--==--===-=-=-=-=-=-=--==--=-= Despite being an orphan, Mash lives a relatively peaceful and happy life in the village of Dorah. This all changes, however, on a day in his 17th year. Ol' Samos, his guardian, calls him in for a talk about Mash's long dead parents. You see, Mash's father and mother were the benevolent rulers of Dorah, and would've continued acting as such, if not for a mysterious stranger named Gorgus. Gorgus was by no means an ordinary fellow; he possessed the ability to command fire. For apparently only evil reasons, Gorgus killed Mash's parents. Now, Mash is out for revenge, but that's not all. Samos told Mash he must look for a girl with a symbol on her body. Why? Samos didn't know anything more about her... what purpose does she serve? Mad Paradox is a linear RPG that runs in DOS. The only control device it requires is a keyboard. As Mash, you begin in Dorah, complete a task, and then move onto the next town, where you complete a task, and move onto the next town. Repeat until you finally face off against Gorgus and beat the game. The battle system is strictly turn based, like other old school RPGs. -=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-==-=-=-=--=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=--==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ii. CHARACTERS CODE : CHC2 -=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=--=-=-=--==-=-=-=-=--=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=--=-==----=-====-=-=- Mash - Our Hero! He's determined to avenge the murder of his parents, and nothing will deter him(except perhaps the occasional pretty girl). Elle - Ever since her father was killed by ghouls around her village, Elle has tried to kill as many as she can. When she meets Mash, she's more than willing to help in his quest. Her skills may be unpolished, but you need all the help you can get! Fugg - A strong warrior, his fiance's sister has been taken by Gorgus' men. He's been fighting against them by himself but making no headway. When Mash and Elle come along, he eagerly joins their fight. Gorgus - A very evil man. Gorgus goal is, of course, domination of as many people as possible. After killing Mash's parents, he took power of many nearby towns, and no one has been able to thwart his efforts. Samos - The wisest man in Dorah, and Mash's guardian. He holds the secret of Mash's past. -=-=--==-=--=-==-=--==-=-=--=-==-=-=-=-=--=-==--=--=-=-==-=--==-=-=-==-=--=--= iii. CONTROLS CODE : CRL3 -=-=---===-=--=--==-=-=--=-==--=-====--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-==-=-=-=-=-=--=- Mad Paradox requires only a keyboard. The functions of keys: Arrow keys - Move Mash around the map. F1 - Brings up the menu, from which you can view character status, manage equipment, save the game, etc. Enter - Select a menu option. Esc - Back, in a menu situation. Now, the game was translated into English, except for the all important battle menu. The options of the battle menu are as follows: ______________ | | | Attack | | | | Use Magic | | | | Use an Item | | | | Run Away | |______________| As before, the Enter key is used to select the options, and Esc can be used to go back. -=-=-=-=-=-=--=-==-=-=---=-=-=-==-=-=--===-=-=--=--==---=-==-=-==-=--=====-=-- iv. PLAYER STATS/LEVELS CODE : PSL4 ===--=-=-=----==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=---==-=-=-=-==--==----=-=-=-=-=-=-==-==-== Mad Paradox is not an RPG which you can speed through, relying on skilled manipulation of the characters to make up for lack of training. Since the battles are turn based, the enemy will always have multiple shots at you, and if your level isn't high enough, you'll be killed in one stroke. So, strap yourself in for an overabundance of monster killing fun. Following are the EXP each character will need to attain each level, and effects that leveling up will have on the characters. Mash's stats are listed immediately above Elle's(after she comes in at level 8), and then Fugg's(beginning at level 18). When the stats are the same they are only listed once. Elle enters at level 8, with 1350 EXP and knowledge of the spells Healing1, Fire, and Thunder. Fugg begins at level 18, with EXP and only one spell, Healing1. Note the numerical values are based on each character's stats without upgraded equipment(but with his/her beginning equipment). | Mash | Level 1(N/A) | Level 2(25) | Level 3(70) | Level 4(150) | While magical attacks are varied in Mad Paradox, the power of physical attacks, plus the need to conserve MP for healing, means that you shouldn't waste using magic on any enemy besides bosses(usually). Elle is by far the best magician(bet you didn't guess that!). Everyone gets the most useful healing spells, though. As always, the more MP a spell costs, the more damage it will cause. Healing1(5 MP) - Restores 50 HP, just like its item counterpart. Users - Mash, Elle Healing2(14 MP) - Restores 150 HP. Users - Mash, Elle Healing3(28 MP) - Recovers 300 HP. Users - Elle Fire(2 HP) - A weak attack on one enemy. Users - Mash, Elle Thunder(4 HP) - For some reason the attack resembles lightning more than thunder. Users - Mash, Elle Hellfire(6 HP) - Fire rains down on every enemy on the field. Users - Elle Poison(8 HP) - A cloud of poison surrounds one opponent. Users - Elle Ice (9 HP) - Have you ever been in a hailstorm? That stuff can hurt! Affects one enemy. Users - Mash, Elle Wave (11 HP) - A blue streak of water comes from the bottom of the screen and damages one enemy. Users - Mash, Elle Gale(15 HP) - This mini-hurricane damages one opponent. Users - Elle Bird(20 HP) - Elle can invokes a firebird to come and attack one enemy. Users - Elle Dragon(23 MP) - A mighty dragon is summoned to attack all enemies. Users - Mash, Elle -=-=-==----=--=-=--=------=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=---=--==-=-=-== vii. ENEMY LIST CODE : ENL7 -=-=-==--=-----=--=-=-=-=-=-=-==--==-=-==--=-==--===--=--===--=--=------=-=--= The enemies you fight in Mad Paradox will not sneak up on you. They are represented by slow-moving blobs which move around the terrain. Mash moves much faster, so he can easily avoid them, unless they are blocking a particularly narrow path(which they usually are). When Mash does run into one, a battle will take place. Enemies are always restricted to one location. This is most likely an effect of how the characters level up. When a character gains a level of experience, his or her attack and defence status rises; an enemy's attack will damage the character less and our goody goods will be able to kill the enemy with one blow. These are what I term "points of insignificance": the character experience levels at which an enemy becomes completely and utterly harmless. An enemy's "Harmless Attack" designates the defense stat at which that enemy's attack will do only 1 HP of damage. An enemy's "Pitiful Defence" designates the attack stat at which one attack from a character will kill that enemy. Both are approximate, since characters don't level up in unit increments. _____________________ \Regular Enemies\ ____________________________________________________________________ | | | Slime - Blue blobs with a huge blinking eye, they attack by, well, | | sliming you. | |____________________________________________________________________| | | | | | Location : Castle | HP : 20 | EXP : 2-4 | |______________________|_____________________|_______________________| | | | | Harmless Attack : 20 | Pitiful Defence : 40 | |_________________________________|__________________________________| ____________________________________________________________________ | | | Skeleton - Armored bones with shiny, sharp swords. | Goses - You know the drill by now. Goses is a red demon; he |
attacks with Freddy Krueger type claws and a feeble wind
spell. Really, he's weak, especially if you've worked

Gorgus - Finally, the supreme boss. Gorgus is tough to defeat; his
two attacks do about 320 HP damage each, well more than
half the maximum HP for each character. One of his
attacks is a simple sword slash, while in the other he
         disgustingly distorts his face.
To defeat him, its of vital importance that you keep both
characters in good health. This sometimes means both
Mash and Elle must heal each other and skip opportunities
for attack. As long as Mash has the Saint Sword, though,
         a victory should be assured.

        \Dorah + Castle Walkthrough\

-Go talk to Samos.

-Time to train in the Castle. Stick to the first room and the Slimes
at least until you reach Level 4. If you run into a Skeleton at
Level 3 or less, Mash will be lucky to survive. Proceed into the
second room and immediately head to get the Long Sword. This will
speed up Mash's training, which you should continue until at least
Level 7. Don't forget that if you get low on energy, you can retreat
to Mash's house to refresh HP and MP.

-Once you reach Level 7, return to the village and talk to Samos.
He'll open up the gate to the Valley of Death for you.

-Go to the Girl's House. Apparently she doesn't care that Mash
doesn't seem to know her name, because she takes her clothes off for
him(3 pictures).

-Rest up if needed, and proceed to the Valley of Death.

The villagers in Garah are terrified of Gidd, one of Gorgus' minions.
They offer Gidd regular sacrifices of young maidens to appease him.
The latest one is Lizza, but Mash has arrived just in time to save
her. To keep her safe forever, though, he'll have to do away with the
evil Gidd.

                 \Garah Walkthrough\

There are several tasks you must complete in Garah before you can
enter the Fort of Gidd. As a tip to save time, you might want to
avoid battles and training until Elle joins your fight. After all,
you have to train her anyway, so training Mash ahead of her just means
you'll have to fight more.

-Visit the bar and talk to the bartender.

-Optional(Buy the Leather Mail and Bronze Shield(or 2, if you want one
for Elle later) at the shop. The other items are not worthwhile.

-Visit Lizza. Immediately talk to her again to see a couple of nice
pictures.

-Try to enter the Fort of Gidd. The guards will unceremoniously turn
Mash away.

-Return to the bar. The bartender will be missing, but there will be
a trap door in the floor where he was standing before. Go down the
basement and walk into the blue setion of the wall. Mash will enter
an alcove where he meets Mary, a girl being held captive by the
bartender. Mary gives Mash the key to free Lizza, and, more
importantly, gets naked(4 pictures).

-Now that Mash has the key, go unlock Lizza, she tells him to meet her
at Grandma Miller's in the West Hills.

-Proceed directly to Grandma's cave, walk all the way to the left side
of the terrain and you'll see it. Have a short conversation with
Grandma and Lizza, the hightlight of which is another look at Lizza.

-Return to town and talk to Mary.

-Return to Grandma's and hatch a plan for entering the Fort of Gidd.

-Run back to the Merchant's home(C) and talk to him about getting his
"Eternity Mirror". He'll demand the Goddess Statue in exchange for
the mirror.

-Amazingly enough, the Goddess Statue is a possession of Grandma
Miller. Return to her cave to retrieve the item.

-Go the the Merchant's to exchange the Statue for the Mirror.

-Return to Grandma Miller's to use the Mirror, and get another look at
Lizza.

-Take the Mirror to the Blacksmith's shop. He'll tell you to wander
around until he's done.

-Go to Rene's house. This time though, Elle will be there instead of
Rene, but she won't join you quite yet.

-The Blacksmith works quickly! After receiving the Emblem, Mash can
now enter Gidd's Fort.

-Go to Gidd's Fort, this time the guards will allow Mash to enter.
Before he gets the chance though, Elle comes running along to join
the fight(There's a real nice picture of her here). Even though both
of you can enter the fort, don't! Elle starts out at Level 8; she's
too weak to fight the enemies inside(Mash should be around Level 8
also, if you followed my advice.) Time to train in the West
Hills!(Level 9 or even 10 is recommended.)

Battle Tip : Members of your party may die during a battle. As long
as one is alive at the end, the party will survive, and
the fallen characters can be revived simply by using
Healing1 or Healing2(spell or item). Hell, you can even
have a dead character cast Healing on himself to revive
himself(after the battle). Dead characters don't get
              EXP, though.

-Once you're comfortable, take Mash and Elle to the Fort of Gidd.

-Mosey over to Gelt's Tavern. Coincidently, Mary is Gelt's daughter.
(Hehe. Q: "Have you seen my daughter?" A: "Have I ever!")

-After acquiring Gelt's recommendation, Geiko will now talk to Mash.
Long story short, Mash has to retrieve a Plaque from Geiko's Cave(its
in his establishment). For some reason, Mash insists on going by
himself. Since you don't want to waste time training only one of
your party members, retrieve the Plaque and avoid altercations.

-Talk to Geiko again on the way out, he'll open up the gates to
Aquapolis.

-Stop by the Krapp Inn on your way out. Now that Mash is by himself,
he can take advantage of the special services of the inn. You see,
now every room comes complete with a female companion! You'll want
to spend time in every room, so here's a tip. Save before you go in
any of them, view the goods, then reload. You'll save a little money.
                Room 101(Left room) - Leila
                Room 102(Center room) - Mint
                Room 103(Right room) - Anne

-Once in Aquapolis, proceed directly to Foulwater and the Wise One's
house. Do everything you can do to avoid the enemies there! They're
designed to be handled later in the game, and will most likely shred
you at your current level. Talk to the Wise One, and he'll give you
some direction in your quest. Talk to him again immediately, and
he'll tell you where to find Elle.

-Head up to the waterfall in Foulwater to retrieve Elle. You'll see
some nice pictures of her and her new fairy friend.

-Return to Krapp and talk to Geiko; he'll give you permission to use
the road to Fireland.

-On your way out of town, talk to Lita in the church.

      \Fireland, Geir's Lair Walkthrough\

Tip: I usually purchase the Kaiser Sword, Devil Staff, and Devil
Armor. Give the Kaiser Sword to Mash. Once you get enough
money, buy the Buster Mail for Mash. If you feel like going all
out, buy Mash and Fugg a Battle Shield and Elle a Magic Shield.
Money isn't really an object in this game; its easy to come by.

-Once in Fireland, go to Seila's Tavern and have a conversation.

-Go to Fugg's house, and you'll get some nice pictures of his girl
Sherry. Also, Fugg will join the party!

-Now, its unlikely that your characters are at high enough levels to
storm Foxfire and kill Geir, at least, Fugg isn't. Its time to
train. Go to Geiko's Cave until the characters are at level 16, then
go up to Foulwater until level 18 or 19.

-Once you're comfortable that your party won't be killed in Foxfire,
jump in and rescue the three girls held captive by Geir. You'll get
three pictures of Lora here, and one more if you return to Fugg's
house after saving the girls. I can almost guarantee you won't have
a high enough level to infiltrate Geir's Lair right now, so go back
to training. Once you get Mash and Elle up to around Level 23(with
their recommended equipment), you can start to train in Geir's Cave,
but you shouldn't infiltrate very deep, just to be cautious.

-Once you feel strong enough, go defeat Geir!

-After you defeat Geir, you must exit his cave the way you entered.

Tip : Once you return to Seila's Bar, Fugg will leave your party(and
you won't be able to continue the quest until you dump him).
Since fights with three people are shorter than those with two,
keep him around as long as you want and train a little. It
should save you some time later.

Tip : Fugg takes the equipment he's wearing with him, so if you've
saved any cheap equipment, give it to him just before he goes,
then sell his original items for a little cash.

-After saying goodbye to Fugg, return to the Wise One's house in
Foulwater. Retrieve the Crystal from the dock in Foulwater, and then
talk to the Wise One again. Now its time to go to Heaven! The
entrance is through the waterfall in Foulwater. You'll get some
pictures of Eques and the Water Fairies here.

-Go tackle the last (real) stage of the game!

The last area of the game is the Heavens, where Mash must retrieve
some Holy Water. Unfortunately this area is guarded by Goses, the
strongest of Gorgus' minions.

        \Walkthrough : Heaven and Goses' Castle\

Tip : Buy the Cross Shield and the Crystal Shield. If you have the
money, purchase the Gradius also. Don't buy the armors.

-Free the Brown Haired Girl in location A(3 pictures).

-Free the Turquoise Haired Girl in location B(3 pictures).

-Enter Goses' Castle. Basically, proceed through at your comfort.
Any level in the mid-30's should be able to get you through fine, but
go at your own pace. Goses is an easier battle than the other
bosses(which is supremely surprising). Don't forget to pick up the
great armors in the castle!

                       xiii. WALKTHROUGH : Endgame CODE : EG13
--=--==-=-=----==-==-=-=--==-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=--==-==--==-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=--=

Now that you've defeated Goses, you don't have any other henchmen to
fight. The only one lying in your path is Gorgus himself. Once you
find the AquaSword, you'll be able to defeat him! First you have to
find it, though.

-Go back to Foulwater and talk to the Wise One. He won't be able to
help you.

-Go to the church in Krapp and talk to the priest.

-Walk up to Aquapolis, and stand in front of the opening in the wall
in the upper left hand corner.

-Return to the church to talk to the priest again. He'll give you a
spell.

-Go back to the spot in Aquapolis and Mash will cast the spell,
opening a pathway to the Sanctum and the AquaSword!

-Before you enter the Sanctum, make sure you have plenty of HP and MP,
you'll need it. Its just a narrow passage, so there's little chance
of avoiding enemies you might encounter. Battle your way to the end
of the passage, and you'll run into Gorgus! Don't worry though, you
don't have to fight him yet. Have a conversation and then turn
around and exit the Sanctum.

-Go talk to Geiko in Krapp, but he won't give you any good
information, ~yet~.

-Having struck out with Geiko, go visit the Wise One in Foulwater. He
doesn't have much to say either, though.

-Return to Geiko's, but know Lita is missing. Go find her!

-Lita's in the mountains west of Krapp(see, they were there for a
reason). Walk up to her... Mash will receive the Saint Sword.
(1 picture of Lita).

-The only thing to do now is go and kill Gorgus. Before you do, stock
up on Healing items(something you might not have bought at all in the
game!). Go to Heaven to get Healing2's and Healing3's, and buy
Healing1's wherever. You can have up to 20 of each type, and you'll
want to get the max. Enter the Sanctum!

-Fight your way through the enemies, which shouldn't be so tough now
that Mash has the Saint Sword. Tip: Use Healing1 to heal yourself
after these minor battles. The Healing1's will be virtually useless
against Gorgus, so save the stronger medicine until you fight him.

Fight with Gorgus
.................

The final fight is the toughest in the game. As you can guess, it
still isn't that hard. Mash will be the fighter in this scenario, and
Elle will be the healer(her weapon does hardly any damage to Gorgus).
Elle's role is extremely important however, as Gorgus' attacks do
around 320 HP damage, and each character's max is 500 HP. That's right,
two attacks in a row from Gorgus without medicine is certain death.
Those Healing3's will be the key to victory.

Don't hesitate to heal with both Mash and Elle in the same turn; the
most important part of the battle really is keeping Mash and Elle
alive. After about 17-18 attacks from Mash, Gorgus will go down.

..................

-After Gorgus is defeated, enjoy the epilogue, in which the role of
the mysterious girl with the emblem on her forehead is finally
explained! Oooo, exciting stuff.

-Fin!
