Credits 001-General Information ----------------------------------------------------------- This is a walkthrough for the PC game called Chaos. It is a funny game, but has incredibly tough puzzles, so that's why I'm making this guide. You can contact me at ilovecartoonssomuch@yahoo.com, but make the subject either "Chaos" or no subject at all, or else I won't answer (I get a LOT of spam). If you want to use part of this guide for something, contact me at the address above, and I'll let you, or else you'll break some law and I could sue you. Okay? Let's begin our journey into Chaos... Note: this is the final version and there shall be no updates unless I receive some relevant information I would wish to add to this FAQ... 002-Story ----------------------------------------------------------- Well, you don't get much of a story that deals with the acutal plot. It's sorta like Deja Vu (I did a guide for the sequel to that game). You'll figure out the plot as you go along. However, there is an opening scene, which is really cool, so you should enjoy it. 003-Characters ----------------------------------------------------------- You: You are a person with an indeterminate gender. You live in your not-so-high class RV, which is near a weather station and a lake. You learn more about yourself as you go along. Money man: This is a guy who officially works for some place. You owe him a gigantic debt, and he swears to come after you. However, you owe him credits, not dollars, as nobody uses dollars anymore. Uncle Prospero: Your uncle Prospero is the inventor of Prospero's Power Pellets, which are used in cars instead of gasoline. Needless to say, he is very wealthy and now lives in a mansion where he likes to do his experiments with the occasional help of his butler Jenkins. Perhaps he can help with your debt... Weather Station Lady: She's rather annoying. She lost her contact lens, and can't seem to see anything. She says a lot of annoying stuff, and is accurately described in the manual as looking like a bird. Radio Station Jockey: This guy works in a radio station, KAOS. KAOS is holding a special event where you can come into their station, make up a song on the spot, and get paid if it's a hit! Trucker: A female trucker tows you to a station if you run into trouble in the highway. She remembers you as the person who sat behind her in math class and tried to cheat off of her papers. Gas station attendant: Without a doubt, he is the funniest person in this game. He sells you pellets, and does it humorously. Ranger Beth: Beth loves to dance. She tries to be a responsible ranger, but just play a song and BAM!, she's dancing up a storm. She guards the forest. Professor: The professor works in the forest, doing rather interesting experiments with plants. He's trying to make some plants that grow super high, however, a burst of wind came and his papers are scattered all over the forest. Jenkins: Uncle Prospero's rather weird butler. Receptionist: A rude receptionist works at the hospital. Doctor: The doctor at the hospital has many not-so-important things to do, and irresponsibily lets non-doctors perform delicate surgery. Random people: The random people laugh at anyone who is attempting surgery while the doctor is gone. For some laughs, try seeing what the people say by clicking on them again and again. Many say weird, funny things, but eventually stop and just repeat the same thing over and over. For example, the receptionist ends by just saying, "Buh-bye" over and over. 004-Walkthrough ----------------------------------------------------------- 004a-RV ----------------------------------------------------------- You start in your RV, looking at the radio. The radio jockey says that you're listening to KAOS. KAOS is holding its play it and win contest, where average listeners come in, play songs, and try to win a big cash prize. The radio then goes back to playing a song, which it plays the entire time. The radio has two buttons. One button turns it off, and another button turns it to another station. The other station besided KAOS reports the weather. Strangely, the weather station is all out of whack, which comes into play later. Have fun listening to the forcast, which is absurd and sounds like this: "Clear skies all day with patches of tornado! Raining clouds all day! Better take out that sunscreen, because there's a hurricane!"...it continues in this humorous vein for a few minutes, and then repeats itself. Set the radio to the station you like more (KAOS or weather), or turn it off if you hate both. Back up from the radio, and you'll get a better view of your RV. Turn right and you'll see an out-of-control clock. Turn right again to see your high tech message system. Not by coincidence, you'll notice that a message comes in when you approach. For some reason, it gets interrupted and you can't see most of it. Flip the switch to phone and click the saved button. Click on the message. It's the collection guy, leaving a threatening message. Back away from the high tech gear. Turn around and head to the end of your RV. Look at the sink. Right of it is a counter with a box. Inside the box is a portable version of the gizmo you saw before. Activate it, and you'll see when looking at your finances that you are in debt. Probably to the guy who wants money. Go back to the high tech equipment. Flip the switch to TV. Press the button on the phone (the one you press to hang up) a few times. Eventually, something shows on the screen. Click on the part of the high tech stuff that looks like you can insert stuff into it (your hand held thing is inserted and you now have a cool program that gives you a basic introduction to chaos. Go to your out-of-control clock. Open the door, and see how the pendelum is swinging out of whack, and looks like it is moving between three different places. Go down and the drawer below opens. There are the three things here, which are magnets. Remove the magnets and your clock is fixed. Go back to your high tech equipment. Flip the switch to phone and press new. The new message you got, which was interrupted, now has the time 2:59 attached to it. If you try to read the message, it still doesn't work. Turn around. A weird picture hangs over your sofa. Approach it and click the bottom part of the frame. A complicated- looking thing pops up. Move the two green things around until the time displayed is 2:59. Press the button, and the message is unlocked. Go back to your high tech stuff. Have the switch on phone, click on new, and now watch the unlocked message. It doesn't screw up anymore. It seems your Uncle Prospero has some interesting things he wants you to download, and he asks you to come visit him. Download his notes by inserting your hand-held thing. Now you can check out his notes, and a handy map, which sadly only has your RV on it since it is the only place you've been to. Now that you can work all your high-tech stuff, you get another phone call. Answer it on your hand-held thing. The guy who you owe money to still demands his money. He doesn't seem too happy. Go to your RV door. Open it, and a butterfly (from the main chaos example) flies out. Go out after it. Walk down the path, and you get another phone call. All calls from now will be answered on your hand-held device. Answer it and your Uncle Prospero talks about how he built a weather station around there. Go forward some more, and you end up near his weather station. Before you do anything about that, go to the lakeside. Go onto the boat, and press the sail to take a most majestic ride down the river, and you get taken back to the dock. After the good ride, you can no longer go on any other rides (they end up short). You also get another phone message. The guy who wants your money is really on your butt and makes death threats. Luckily, he doesn't call you any more. Walk up to the weather station. For some reason, you can't get in. Look up and to the left. The butterfly from before lands on the weather vane. Go back down to the door. Press the red button, and now you can enter. 004b-Weather Station ----------------------------------------------------------- If you look to your left, the bird-like lady stands there. She's looking for a contact lens. Go right and back left to her. She tells you to look out and make sure not to step on it. Go right, and squish! You destroy it. Go left and she'll explain some stuff. Go back right, and up the ramp. Check out all the stations, and she explains what the heck they do. However, none of them work. Why? Uncle Prospero calls with the answer. "You can't examine data that hasn't been gathered". The lightening messed up the computer system, and now you need to collect the data. There are only two stations that need data, luckily for you. The third station, measuring wind speed, is up and running. Exit the weather station. Approach the hot air balloon. You need to set everything right so the balloon will float away and get you a datum that you need. (The singular of data is datum. Now you can show off to your science teacher about how you can use datum in a sentence). Connect the tube in its proper position. Flip the handle. Now twist the twirly thing on the gas pipe. Lastly, press the sparker. The balloon flies off, leaving a small patch of dirt where it stood. Explore around here, and you'll run into a cave. Enter it, and you reach a bridge thing. Climb across it, and go left. Climb up the stairs here. Up here, you can clearly see that part of the bridge is in the wrong position. Move both switches and it goes into the right position. Now go down, and walk across the bridge that is now in the right position to the rocket ship. Walk to the rocket ship. The launch pad requires you to put in the proper wind speed. Type in the number 10 and press launch. You back away to avoid vaporization. The rocket blasts off into space, which, besides looking really cool, gives you the other datum you need. After the rocket blasts off, you go up and see how there are smoldered remains. Also, the money man calls you again, talking about how he saw a movie once. A guy in the movie didn't pay his debts. He died in the end. Go figure. Well, don't worry about the money guy right now, and go back to the weather station. You now have all your data. Look at all the stations. From left to right, set them at five, 10.0, and five. Now approach the computer, and press all three buttons. Then access the weather control. Uh, oh! It doesn't work. There is a list of errors, and the main one, is incorrect data resolution. You get a phone call from your uncle, who says, "When seeking resolution, I find time for an ablution". Whatever that means. For a good laugh, look at the other errors in the list. One is "contact lens in CPU", another is "I'm sorry, but I just can't do that, Dave", and another is "It's not our fault, we're just not compatible". From left to right again, set the machines at two, 10.06, and five. Try setting the machine again, and it still doesn't work. Uncle Prospero calls you, saying that ablution means to bathe. Bathe? What? Check the notes that your Uncle gave you. The notes, strangely deal with the problems you have to face in the game, one of which (the three magnet situation) you already dealt with (the clock in the RV). Well where does he mention bathing? If you look long enough, your uncle mentions taking a bath at 2:37. So, from left to right, set the controls at two, 10.063, and seven. Now when you try to set the weather control, you get it! You can now contol the weather! Cool! Your uncle calls, saying "Now you have things in your control!". He's kind of weird, but since he's your only living relative (and rich), you have to deal with him. Set the weather to icy cold. When you do, you go outside. The place is covered in snow. So? So, you can go across the lake, since it's all ice now. You go across the lake, and end up in front of a radio station, KAOS. 004c-Radio Station ----------------------------------------------------------- "You're listening to KAOS, where we just don't play the hits, we make them. And speaking of making the hits, our annual you make the hits contest begins today." What's the you make the hits contest? Well, a person can come into the radio station, play a song, and win money if it's a hit. That sounds like a challenge to your authority. Walk in and you'll see what's up. There are six instruments that you can play in here, and your song is made up of a combination of four. The six instruments are a saxophone, a drum, snowflakes, a fiddle-thing, a harp, and a picture frame. For some reason, something is wrong with each of the instruments and you have to fix them. First of all, while you're fixing each instrument, set the little boxes next to them all to the same color (for example, make each one purple). To fix the saxophone, click on the part of the sax that you blow into. To fix the drum, click on the twisty part of the thing that holds it up. To fix the snowflakes, double-click on a snowflake. It will end up either light or dark. Make sure all of the snowflakes are the same color (light or dark). To fix the fiddle-thing, pull the two strings out, and place them on things that stick out of the fiddle. To fix the harp, pull some of the small strings until it works, and for the picture frame, pull down the sides of the picture frame. Now go to the fiddle. To the right of it is a jukebox. Go up to it, and play some of the music. Go right, and you see the back of the jukebox. Put four of the random colored things into the holes on the right. Each color represents an instrument. If you tuned the instrument correctly, the musical score will appear purple. See the red things? And the two holes to the right of each musical score? Of course you do. Put one end of a red thing in a hole next to a musical score. Put the other end of that red thing into the hole to the right of it. Do this until all four red things are set up. By now, you have four instruments, all ready for recording. Back away from the jukebox, and start playing each of the four instruments for a while (for some reason I never heard any sound). When you're done, go to the jukebox, and press the record button. The CD comes out. You'll give it to the KAOS announcer, and he tells you that it's a hit! Unfortunately, they don't have the amount of money they promised, so they're throwing a brand new car! Well, they couldn't afford a brand new car, so you're getting the announcer's car. Technically, it's his mother's car. It's a little old and shaken, but it still runs like a dream. His mother, that is. The car probably won't make it out of the lot. Just kidding! Take the car and you'll be on the road to see your uncle. 004d-Long Road ----------------------------------------------------------- Well, you're on the road, driving on...but for some reason you end up stopping. Oh man! You ran out of gas! That's a bummer. Not much to do but press the emergency button on your dashboard. After you press it, screw around with radio here since you have nothing else to do. After a while, you hear some knocking. Turn left, and a female trucker is there to tow you to a gas station. When you're at the station, turn right. You see the gas station attendant. He says, "Welcome to Prospero's power pellets. How many pellets do you want?". Type in your pin number (you get it from your bank account in the hand held high tech thing), and buy five pellets (you can't get any more than five). Start the ignition, and press on the navigation button. You get send to the navagation screen, which has a map of your location, gas stations, and your uncle's house on it. There are three parts to this screen. Here's a visual idea: IIIIIIII IIIIIIII IIII IIIIIIII II IIII IIIIIIII In essence, they are all the same map. The only difference is how big the map is. Each map has gridlines on it. With your five pellets, you can only travel across five squares. Move from map to map to get to Prospero's house. However, most of the time you can only move in the big map. Since it's bigger, that means it takes longer to get to your uncle's. You follow this boring, repetitive pattern throughout the entire coastline. The only thing that makes this bearable is the gas station attendant. He starts being funny. Here's some of the things he says: "Welcome to Prospero's power pellets. How many p-pellets p-p-please?" "I knew you were coming. A dog told me. A dog with big teeth and glasses". "Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know what to do. Now make it snappy. I gotta get back to my pod. "If I put a pig in a dress and take it to the dance, do you think anyone would be the wiser?" "If this was Doom, you could shoot me. I bet you'd like that, wouldn't you?" "Hey, have you seen a guy around here? My height, my build, looks EXACTLY like me. Well if you do see him, let me know. That bastard's ruining my reputation." "Welcome to Prospero's power pellets. Would you like a burger of some apple pie with you...oh sorry. Wrong minimum wage job. How many fries, I mean, pellets do you want?" "At least I don't have to wear a hair net." "Beth loves to dance, and the professor's lost his papers! Do you hear me? Beth loves to dance and the professor's lost his papers! Oh...and how many pellets do you want?", "Don't forget the seed bag! It'll come in handy later too", and "Beth loves to dance, but the professor's lost his papers. Oh sorry. Sometimes I just spew out cryptic little phrases like that. I'm sure it will be of help to you later." are three things he says that deal with what happens to you later. In case you forget, I'll remind you. "Don't do that." "I bet you're wondering if I have any legs right now. Well, keep wondering." "Hello. I suppose you'd like some pellets now. Pellets, pellets, pellets, all day long. Do you have any idea what that's like? Any idea at all? My life is a sick joke; I live in the same room I did in (sniff) in high school! My mother fixes me a lunch. But some day, I'm going to leave all that behind me; I don't care what mother says, I AM worth something. I'll pack up my clothes and my complete set of Hardy Boys mysteries, and I'll be off! I hear there's a station on the scale where the pumps are made of pure gold! And then I'll...hello? HELLO? Are you listening to me? Fellow human expressing his dreams and aspirations here! Oh forget it! I'll just pretend I'm a puppet. Welcome to power pellets, may I help you. How many pellets do you want? How many pellets? HOW MANY PELLETS??? Augh! HELP! HHHEEELLLPPP!!!!!" "Boy, this coastline sure is long. Makes you wish that you were outside on a real beach looking at trees instead of just sitting there staring at you computer screen... WARNING! WARNING! CHARACTER SHOWING SIGNS OF SELF-EXISTENCE!" Eventually, you end up at the end of the long road. During the trip, your uncle calls to tell you that "There's a professor Fernsly doing some rather interesting experiments in the forest, why don't you look up on him?". Well, click on the picture of the tree to get to the forest, where the professor is. I wonder if maybe...just maybe... the gas gus was right and the professor's lost his papers. 004e-Forest ----------------------------------------------------------- Walk up to the forest gates. Turn left and grab a handy dandy map. Now turn right twice, and you'll meet Ranger Beth. If you're bored, click on her many times, and eventually she says weird things like, "My secret? Yams." Grab a litter bag that is right to the left of her. What did the gas station attendant say about Beth? She loves to dance? Click on your CD to play it. Beth starts dancing and disappears from your view. Now you have a clear view of the bulletin board behind her. It has four pictures, each with its own statistic (a percent). Write down the statistics or remember them if you can. Now you're ready to enter the forest. Go left, open the gate, and enter. This forest is like a maze. It is really hard to find your way around. Use the map to get to the professor. The professor tells you that he was working when a gigantic burst of wind came and blew all of his papers away. I believe there are either sixteen or twenty. You have to collect all of the papers, scattered throughout the maze-like forest. For the first one, turn around and enter the forest from the professor's shack. You'll see a white thing on the ground. It's a paper. Pick it up, and it'll go in your litter bag. You're on your own for the other papers. Try to visit every place (the map is somewhat helpful) and collect all the papers. To see how many you have, click on your litter bag. If the first two rows are full, you got all the papers. When you have all the papers, go back to the professor. He says that this is excellent, excellent. Well come in, come in. The professor has his papers, and asks you to use them in his complicated machine thing. You need to pick four papers that have a similiar picture, scan them in the machine, and arrange to shapes that show up to fill one of the patterns shown on the machine. Well, it's rather hard to figure out which papers form a group of four. You can scan a lot of them, and then try to sort them by color, or go back to Ranger Beth, make her dance again, and examine the pictures of the plants on the wall behind her. In any case, eventually you'll get all of them. It takes a while, but you can do it. When you have it done, you'll have the four pictures that were behind Ranger Beth. What else was behind Beth? Why, the four statistics. Put the percentages in accordingly, and then everything is cool. Pull the lever, and look at the professor. You did it! Now the flowers in the forest are super tall! Apparantly, there were some plants under the professor's little shack. You can't leave without falling down to the ground and getting hurt. Nothing else to do but turn around and go up the ladder. Or, you could exit the way you came and die (funny ending). Your uncle calls, saying that from where you are, you can almost see his house. Turn right, and grab the seed bag (like the gas station attendant said). Turn left and go forward to look over the edge of the shack to see your uncle's house. The hot air balloon from before comes floating up. You hitch a ride and it drops you into your uncle's house. Woah! 004f-Uncle Prospero's ----------------------------------------------------------- Well, you made it to your uncle's rather massive estate of affairs. Cool. Look around a bit, and you'll see Jenkins, Prospero's butler. He's crying, and tells you that there was a stock market crash, and they took your uncle to the hospital. He tells you to go there, and be with him. You can't do much of anything except check out your Uncle's stock market computer (try to make money!). Go through the door to leave. Pick up some power pellets, and click on the H to get to the hospital. 004g-The Hospital ----------------------------------------------------------- The memorial hospital is not well run. Go up to the receptionist. She says hi, but then says she thought you were somebody else. Check out the terminal to your left. Click on Prospero, Uncle, enter your pin number, and see what's wrong. Your uncle is dying and needs 15000 credits for an operation. For fun, check out the other patients. Turn around to leave the hospital, and you run into...the money man. He robs you blind. Now you're broke. Great. Click on your hand-held computer thing. Then click on downloads, and the map to Uncle Prospero's. On the map, click on the KAOS radio station. Do the play it and win contest again for some credits (not as much as before). Using the map, go back to Uncle Prospero's. Using your credits from the play it and win contest, try your skills at the stock market. Save before you try in case you end up in debt. I couldn't figure out what was going on, but by pressing buy and sell rapidly, I made a lot of money. You need 15000 for the operation, and about 6000 more because the money guy will come and rob you blind again. So try to get the a comfortable 25000 before going back to the hospital. When you make the money, go to the hospital. Check out the money man again, and he'll take all the money he needs. If you still have 15000, you can enter the Operating Room. The Doctor is glad to see you, and lets you take over while he picks up his daughter from baseball practice. If you look left, you'll see many random people laughing at you. In any case, check out the screen to see your uncle. Turn on the power. Now place the two paddles on his chest. They should be touching the top of your Uncle's chest (and the top of the screen). Place them so they somewhat divide the top part of this chest into thirds. The placement is rather exact, so it may take some time. Eventually, you'll get it, and your uncle's heart is saved (for now). If you leave, the doctor returns. He tells you that your uncle is not completely well. The only possible hope you have of saving him is the Iterato legend. It says that if you can mix plant leaves together, it may make a medicinal compound that can save the heart. Well, where can you find two leaves? And what about the seed bag? This is answered easily. Go to the weather station, and check out where the hot air balloon was. See the patch of dirt? Plant a seed from the seed bag in there. A plant grows, so take the leaf. Go to your uncle's. Jenkins is watering a plant, so get close and take the plant leaf. Now go upstairs to see your uncle's laboratory. Check out the microscope. Since you have two leaves, there are six little dot things. Separate them, and then try to put them together. There are three from each plant, and since you don't want to combine the ones from the same plant, this means that there are six possible combinations for each of the dots. Guess and check to put them into their groups. When you're done, you have the syringe, so go back to the hospital. Enter the operating room again. Check out the x-ray screen, and you get to see your Uncle's veins. There are three places that you need to inject the syringe. Here's a picture-thing: | | /\ / \ /\ \ / \ \ /\ / \ See how there are three places where an artery breaks off and separates into two arteries? There are three of these places. Inject the medicine into these places to save your poor uncle. Jenkins will call you. Your uncle is physically better, but what about the stock market crash? Can you help him get his money back? Also, Jenkins gives you your Uncle's pin nubmer, 2206. He's sure you can save your Uncle's money, but if not, he's found employment elsewhere. Go to your Uncle's house, and to his computer. Choose long investment trading here, and enter your uncle's pin number. The things here are super hard to understand, so you shouldn't waste time trying to figure it out. Choose orangeand type in 78. Choost Micromessage and type in 50. Choos Hal and type in 25. Choose run and then status! Yay! you saved the fortune! Back away from the terminal to see your uncle. He gives you his gratitude and his respect. Click on him again, and he gives you his house and everything else; he's off on more adventures. Perhaps you shall meet again, perhaps not. To see the end, just move somwhere. Hope you like the game! 006-Credits ----------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ is copyright of The Lost Gamer, 2002.
