INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Lost Secret of the Rainforest' for the PC, released by Sierra in 1993. This game is often referred to as "Ecoquest 2" since it was released after the first game although there are no direct links between the two games' story. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== Like most Sierra games of that time you are dealing with a basic top screen menu. There is help included within the game if you are having trouble to use the commands. I would highly suggest you read the manual if you are struggling. You mainly control everything with the mouse and hardly need the keyboard at all. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== Iquitos, Peru: `````````````` After the intro it will eventually be your turn to show your passport and immunization card to the official. Open your inventory and use the hand icon on your passport to open it, then select this and show it to the officer (10, 10). Talk to Nicanor, the guy waiting with the sign (1, 11). While your dad checks the inventory, walk right onto the pier to the next screen (bottom right corner). Talk to the old man (1, 12) and then return to the previous screen where you dad might have finished going through all the stuff. Do not open the package just yet. Walk to the right screen and attempt talking to the tourist taking pictures (1, 13). Wait for him to drop some litter and recycle it (5, 18). Other events in this area include a peddler asking you to buy his parrot when you walk into the middle of the area. Use your money to buy it (5, 23). Coming back here once more you might find two thugs behind the crates. Climb the crates to hear their conversation (5, 28). Finally your dad should be done with the luggage, open the package to find the Ecorder (5, 33). You will be using this handheld device a lot throughout the game so try and pay attention to the instructions (they are quite easy though). Your dad will already record the 'Town Runoff' for you (1, 34). To move on you must use the Ecorder on the 'River Traffic' (10, 44) in the other screen (the boat spill). Once that is done and you return left you will move on to another area so make sure you have done all the other point-worthy tasks here. Rainforest: ``````````` Record the 'River Otter' (1, 45) and talk to the one hiding behind the roots (1, 46). Talk to that otter again (1, 47). Take the necklace from Orpheus's neck (5, 52). Record the 'Stilt Root' Orpheus was hiding behind (1, 53), then record the 'Leafcutting Ant' on the tree behind you (1, 54) as well as the 'Forest Floor' (1, 55), 'Littering' (1, 56) as well as 'Understory' in the back of the forest (1, 57). Recycle all five pieces of trash (5, 62) and grab the sticky leaf (5, 67). Walk right one screen. After talking to the howler monkey (1, 68), record the 'Logging' behind the campfire (1, 69), the 'Buttress' (1, 70) and the 'Cecropia Tree' (1, 71). After attemping to climb the tree you should use the sticky leaf on yourself (5, 76) and try again. More things to ecord: 'Toco Toucan', 'Scarlet Macaw', 'Orchid', 'Epiphyte', 'Yellow-Ribbed Cacique', 'Hyacinth Macaw', '3-Toed Sloth', 'Ruby Topaz Hummingbird' (8, 84)). Talk to the sloth (1, 85) an all the other birds (10, 95) which includes the hummingbird that flies in once in a while. From your position walk left along the thick branch and go left to the canopy. Ecord the 'Canopy', 'Darter' and 'Liana' (3, 98). Grab the colorful flowers nearby (5, 103). Talk to the darter (1, 104) before returning to the Cecropia tree on the right. Walk along the top left branch of this screen for a boa to appear. Ecord it (1, 105) and talk to it (1, 106). Climb to the top to reach the Emerald tree. Ecord the 'Cock-of-the-Rock', 'Emergent Tree', 'Hoatzin' and 'Pitcher Plant' (4, 110). Talk to the hoatzin (1, 111) and the cock-of-the-rock (1, 112). Walk on the right branch until Adam refuses to continue. Use the fragrant flower on yourself (5, 117) and interact with the pitcher plant to tip the water over (5, 122). Climb down to see the egg hatch (10, 132). Talk to the sloth (1, 133) and all birds (11, 144) including the hummingbird. If you miss that one you can talk to it in the screen above while talking to the hoatzin and Cock-of-the- Rock (2, 146). Walk left along the top branch previously blocked by the boa. Talk to the darter once again (1, 147). Walk left to the next tree branch (5, 152). Ecord the 'Drums' and 'Village' below (2, 154). Walk to the end of the top branch to reach the lower one (5, 159). Attempt to leave the screen at the bottom right only to be stopped by the jaguar. Ecord it (1, 160) and instead turn around and grab the drum at the end of the branch (5, 165). Grove People Village: ````````````````````` Ecord the 'Peccary' (1, 166) and the 'Long House' (1, 167). Pick up the vine next to you (5, 172), ecord the 'Bromeliad' (1, 173) and pick it up too (5, 178). Use the fruit on the peccary and quickly use the vine to lasso it (5, 183). Walk to the east of the long house and do some ecording: Weaving (1, 184) and Agriculture (1, 185). Place the drum on the stand along with the other drum (5, 190). Play the pattern shown at the top of the screen by using the nearby drumstick. The notes look easy enough (5, 195). Pick up the drum again (1, 196). Return to the left and go north to the grove. Grove of Forest Heart: `````````````````````` Enter the right side (1, 197) and place the drums on the stand (5, 202). Play the same pattern as previous but this time you have nothing written on the wall to help you. Imagine the leftmost tune is 1, the others on the left drum are 2U and 2D (for up and down) and the rest is 3U and 3D. Play 2D, 1, 2D, 2U, 1, 1, 2U, 3U, 2U, 3D, 3U, 3U. The correct pattern opens the tree branches (10, 212). Pick up the drum again (1, 213) before moving on. Ecord the 'Seed Pots' (1, 214) and sit down in the throne (5, 219). Get the branch (5, 224) and exit left. Take the middle entrance into the tree (1, 225). Get the seed pots (5, 230) and leave again. Enter the upper tree entrance (1, 231) and grab the bark cup (5, 236). DO NOT use the cup on the pool of sap nearby as we want to collect mroe points first, just leave and return to the village. Note: if you do not care about the points just take the sap now and save yourself a trip later and do not bother showing the bark cup to all people in the village. Grove People Village: ````````````````````` You have probably missed ecording for a while, so start up again: ecord the 'Pottery' at the woman with the baby (1, 237), 'Body Painting' from the guy near the machete (1, 238) and the 'Iguana' just left of the machete (1, 239). Talk to Musqui the potter (1, 240), show her the bark cup (1, 241), then talk to her baby (1, 242), talk to the guy with the body painting (1, 243) who is the chief, and show him the bark cup (1, 244), finally continue to the right. Ecord the 'Masato' in the cooking pot (1, 245) and 'Hunting' the guy on the right (1, 246). Talk to the woman left of the cooking pot (1, 247), in the middle (1, 248) and to the right (1, 249). Show the left cook the bark cup (1, 250). Talk to the weaver in the center (1, 251) and show her the bark cup (1, 252). Talk to the gardener (1, 253) and show her the bark cup (1, 254). Continue right. Ecord the 'Paint' (1, 255), 'Shaman's Stool' (1, 256) and 'Paint' (1, 257). Talk to the shaman's apprentice hanging around on the vine (1, 258) and show him the bark cup (1, 259). Talk to the thatcher (1, 260) and show him the bark cup (1, 261). Give the drum to the apprentice (5, 266). Swing across the river with the vine (1, 267). Take the berries from the bush (5, 272) as well as the shiny necklace that is uncovered in the process (5, 277). Swing back via the vine (1, 278). Attempt to give the necklace to the weaver (5, 283). Ecord the 'Morpho Butterfly' (1, 284) and give the necklace to the weaver instead (5, 289). Go left and grab the machete (5, 294). Give the machete to the gardener (5, 299) in exchange for some roots. Give these roots to the cook on the right of the pot (5, 304). Time for a detour back to the Forest Heart now. Take the upper entrance and use the bark cup on the pool of sap (5, 309) and return to the village. Outside the shaman's hut, place the bark cup with the sap on the bench (1, 310) along with the seed pods (1, 311). Leave the screen and come back to find the sting poultice ready to be taken (5, 316). Give this poutrice to the potter (5, 321). Give the cup to the left cook (5, 326) for the sweet drink. Place the sweet drink on the west end of the village by interacting with it and the butterfly (5, 331). Pick it up too (5, 336). Give this to the thatcher outside the shaman's hut (10, 346). Go inside. Ecord the 'Charm' (1, 347), 'Initiation' (1, 348), 'Rattle' (1, 349), 'Shaman' (1, 350) and 'Masks' (1, 351). Sit down in the middle of the hut (5, 356). Climb the pole and use the sticky leaf on the roof (5, 361). Climb back down and use the berries on the small pot left of the stool (5, 366). You will be given a riddle and the answer is in the game's manual so open it up and select the correct symbol (10, 376). Grove of Forest Heart: `````````````````````` Give the branch to the shaman (5, 381). Pick up the golden blossom (5, 386). After the scene, ecord the 'Insectivore Bat' (1, 387) and talk to the bat (5, 392). Show the bat your amulet (5, 397) and then use the hand icon on the net (5, 402). Cibola Camp: ```````````` Eat the carrot hanging into the cage (5, 407). Walk through the swinging doors to the front. Take the fax at the fax machine (left of the PC) (2, 409). Move the jaguar belt (3, 412). Tear out the floor that was previously beneath the jaguar rug (10, 422). Open the footlocker at the left side (3, 425) and take out the tennis racket (2, 427). Remove the red silk sheet from the bed (2, 429) and do so again for the second sheet (5, 434). Grab the personal orgazine off the bed (2, 436). Grab the tail of the jaguar to make a note appear (3, 439) and pick it up (5, 444). The note gives you the password for the personal organizer. Look at that in your inventory and press ON, then press the key symbol. Enter RETHGUALS and press "E" for enter to see the password (2, 446). Open up the safe with the combination by clicking on each number 5-8-2 (10, 456) then click on one item inside the safe to take all (2, 458). Ecord the 'EndangeredSpecies' by clicking on any of the available animals (1. 459). Combine the two silk sheets in your inventory (5, 464) and tie that combination to the foot of the bed (5, 469). Climb down the rope (2, 471). Wait for Gonzales to finish this dance and cclick on the the top-most barrel to hide behind it. If you get caught now you have to go back to the shack and re- do some steps. Let's hope it does not come to that. Ecord the 'Clear Cutting' (1, 472), Silt (1, 473) and Poor Soil (1, 474). While Gonzales is away or reading his book, approach the front barrel. From here you can eventually climb the tower but he really needs to be gone for that. First thing up on the tower is to disable the alarm (5, 479), then pick up the vacuum cleaner (5, 484) and then click on the purple basket to grab a pair of suspenders (3, 487). Use is on the satellite to bungee down (5, 492) and then quickly hide behind the barrel again. Once it is safe, use the vacuum cleaner on the grain (5, 497) and open up the vacuum cleaner in your inventory (1, 498). Safely make your way back to the furthest barrel in the back and then go east when Gonzalez is reading. Ecord 'Bird Poaching' (1. 499) and 'Oil Refining (1, 500). When Gonzales is away, throw the grain into the bird cages (10, 510) and unlock the right silver cage with the key you got from the safe (5, 515). Gonzales is now gone from here. Pick up the ax (5, 520) and use it on the large log near the river (5, 525). Before you leave you have to return to the shack (via the rope) and tell the bat you are ready to escape now (5, 530). Enter the dugout canoe you made (5, 535) and use the tennis racket to paddle by clicking it on the river once you entered the canoe (5, 540). Ecord the 'Burnout' while you ride along (1, 541). Cave: ````` This first area is called the Refugee Center. Ecord the 'Tent Bat' (1, 542), 'Fishing Bat', (1, 543), 'Leaf-nosed Bat' (1, 544), 'Mexican Freetailed Bat' (1, 545), 'Punk Bat' (1, 546). Talk all five of these bats once (5, 551) and also talk to Paquita (1, 552). Show the Leaf-nosed bat on the right your amulet (5, 557) and pick up the stack of visas (5, 562). Talk to each bat again (6, 568). Give the correct visa to each bat: Ectophylla Alba Tent Bat (5, 573) Tadarida Chapini Punk Bat (5, 578) Tadarida Brasiliensis Mexican Freetailed Bat (5, 583) Noctilo Leporinus Fishing Bat (5, 588) Natalus Stramineus Paquita (5, 593) and give the Macrotus Californicus to the Leaf-nosed Bat (5, 598). Walk into the next area. Ecord the 'False Vampire Bat' (1, 599), 'The Underworld' (1, 600), 'Cosmology Carving' (1, 601) and 'Stone Relief' (1, 602). Talk to the bat (1, 603), then use the perch on the left of it to hang next to it (5, 608) and talk to it again. Climb down and take the truth stone on the left side (5, 613). Place it on the very left side of the stone with the jaguar statue (5, 618). Continue north to the next area. After the scene, attempt picking up Paquita and then return to the previous area where you will automatically talk to Chiropterus. You will receive the whistle (5, 638) and use it on yourself (5, 643). Use the boat to to leave (5, 648). Flooded Forest: ``````````````` Ecord the 'Igapo' (1, 649) and Cannonball Fruit (1, 650). Swim south. Ecord the 'Victoria Lily' (1, 651). Climb up the vine and grab a fruit (5, 656). Swim back north and then east. Ecord the 'Howler Monkey' (1, 657) and the 'Piranha' (1, 658). Talk to said howler monkey (1, 659) and give it the fruit (5, 664). Climb onto the island and grab the piranha jawbone (5, 669). Dive back into the water and swim west, then south. Use the piranha jawbone on the lily pad (5, 674). Use the lily pad (5, 679). Paddle north, then east and climb on the island again (10, 689). After the scene, ecord the 'Harpy Eagle' (1, 690), then show the golden feather to the eagle (10, 700). The City of Gold: ````````````````` Recycle all six items in this screen (6, 706). The piece of trash on the left side of the screen hides a magnifying glass (10, 716). Record the 'Seat of the Inca', 'Pre-Incan Ruins', 'Passion Flower', 'Philodendron' (4, 720). Use the mask in your inventory to find a gold disk (5, 725). Place the mask on the stone relief which has the exact same shape (5, 730). Pick up the golden disk that was revealed at the left side (3, 733). Place the gold disk into the seat (2, 735), as well as the pile of gold disks (3, 738) to open it up (5, 743). Walk down the steps. Record the 'Stela' and 'Labyrinth' (2, 745). Combine the magnifying glass with the amulet to see a map of the labyrinth (5, 750). I will guide you through the area nontheless: Take the right path and walk all the way north. You have to click no the nearest slope to advance each time. After you pass the back of the house, continue along this path and you will once again walk behind the building. A few more steps and you will be inside (15, 765). Record the 'Ritual of El Dorado' (1, 766). Climb the wall on the right (2, 768) and pull on the snake's tail (3, 771). Climb back down the wall. Click on the outer tiles until each one has the jagged line, then select the middle one until you get the matching one (5, 776). Pick up the crown and cup (10, 786). Click on the outer tiles again to make them all double gold lines, then select the center one twice to match the tile to the rest and reveal another secret (5, 791). Make sure you record the 'Pipes' (1, 792) before picking them up (5, 797). Finally exit through the open wall. Hop to the island in the middle (take the right side) (5, 802). Place the crown on your head (2, 804) and the serpent will show up. Play the pipe (use it on yourself) to charm the serpent (13, 817). Enter the water to swim across (5, 822). Record the 'Fountain' (1, 823). Remove the stone cup from the statue at the left side (5, 828). Place it in a gap behind the thick vines on the right side (5, 833). Attempt to take the statue head and then show the amulet to the orchids (1, 834). Use the statue head again (10, 844). Add the dry blossom to the cup (5, 849). A scene will show the sprouting of the seedling (15, 864). Pick up the seedling (20, 884). Use the gold dust on the fountain water to trap Slaughter (10, 894). Call the bats by using the whistle on yourself (5, 899). Use the water to heal Paquita (15, 914). Grove of Forest Heart: `````````````````````` Plant the seedling into the hole (25, 939). Use the whistle on yourself to call Paquita (5, 944). Now is your last chance to earn ecorder points. Use it in your inventory, switch it on, navigate to 'Test Myself' and answer 10 questions to get points (46, 990). You could do this any time of the game but it is easier after having seen all the recorded objects. You also cannot fail this game. Getting it wrong will just redo the same question and shuffle the answers around (which is still super easy since there are only two answers).
