Introduction +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A. About the author Hello, my name is A.E.Isthill. I've been playing Nexus for several years now-- around Yuri 18 until the present, with a two-year break inserted in there somewhere in the mid-30s to 48. I wrote this guide mainly because it really bothered me that Nexus, a game I love, had nothing on GameFAQs. This is about my third attempt at a FAQ for this game. The first was an aborted attempt at a comprehensive guide to being a mage. The second was simply about mage equipment and spells. Both of those proved to be far too large and ambitious for me. One of the most common things that people need clarified is crafting skills. So, I decided to write a FAQ about them, and here it is. A NOTE ABOUT CHARTS: All charts presented herein are APPROXIMATE VALUES. Mileage can and will vary, especially considering that each path advances at a slightly different speed in them. B. Version history 1.6 - 12/9/04 -Hey, something worth updating about! Jewelling added. Stats for jewelling items will be added as they are discovered. Food items bumped down a section in a few places for consistency. 1.52 - 8/16/04 -Errata fixed 1.51 - 7/11/04 -The Woodlands is actually a gigantic grove. Information added. 1.5 - 6/28/04 -Woodcutting is changed, thus this gets updated. Added the Woodlands sheep field. Added the Frequently Asked Questions section. 1.41 - 1/18/04 -Happy new year and stuff. Added a plethora of information about woodcutting from Daehann. 1.4 - 11/1/03 -I took a break. A three-month break. Several corrections courtesy of SilentS. Added Molten blade. 1.32 - 8/3/03 -Added Dragon Fan. Added what Vano determined to be the most likely effect of the Black Potion. Updated prices section a little. 1.31 - 7/17/03 -Added Military polearm. Corrected information about polearms hitting stuff. Fixed minor errors in gemcutting section. 1.3 - 6/22/03 -I'm updating this on vacation, be thankful. Moved several things into new "Advanced crafting items" section. Added new information about Polearm. Added Heavy polearm. Added Fire blade stats. Minor formatting and spelling corrections. 1.26 - 6/18/03 -Added Polearm. Began filling in market prices. Minor grammatical corrections. 1.25 - 6/9/03 -Added Fire Blade. 1.24 - 5/31/03 -Added alchemy chart! Yay. Added sell prices to the crafted item stats section. Added tailoring item listing, but not stats, to ditto. Various minor additions to smelting, smithing, and tailoring. Minor additions to the Contact section. Other small corrections. Extended the major section dividers all the way across. It was really bothering me. 1.23 - 5/30/03 -Corrected the sell price of roast chicken. Added the first inklings of a chart for fishing. Added information about time delay in making the high-end weapons in manufacturing. Added various other minor details. 1.22 - 5/29/03 -Looks like Nagnang is finally getting its turn as a real city. Added Nagnang fisherman. 1.21 - 5/28/03 -Nexon continues to attempt to foil my dastardly FAQ-writing plans by redesigning Mythic Nexus, the Wilderness, and several other areas. However, no locations actually changed--I win again! Seasons fan added. New Nagnang woodcutting groves added. Added Gildenstar's explanation to the crafting tables thing. 1.2 - 5/25/03 -Sunrise fan added. Fishing section expanded. Added boxes around subdivions to make it clearer where they started. "Crafted item stats" section added. Contact section added. 1.1 - 5/24/03 -First revision. It figures that literally minutes after I upload the first version, Nexon FINALLY goes and releases the skill updates they have been promising us. Grand master, Champion, and Legendary levels will be added into charts once charts including that level are created. Fishing section added. Titanium blade added. Changed "Cheffing skills" to "Food skills" so fishing could be grouped with it. Added market prices placeholder. 1.0 - 5/24/03 -First version. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2. Frequently Asked Questions +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Q: How can I advance faster in my skill? A: First, always perform your skill during your totem time. Use crafting tiles if they are available. If you belong to a clan with a crafting room, such as Sun Moon or Forsaken, take advantage of it. Said rooms normally have a bank NPC in there too so you can craft without having to leave to get more raw materials. Try to concentrate all of your crafting in a certain craft on one character--for instance, don't do woodcutting on all four of your characters. Pick one and concentrate on that one. The only acceptable exception to this is if you have a poet doing his or her sun quest. Q: Where is the chart for (craft)? A: If I've seen one, it is in its individual section below here. Q: Which craft will make me the most money? A: Gemcutting is your best bet. Crafted ambers turn a profit even at the Novice level, and since ambers of all kinds are easy to obtain anywhere, obtaining more raw material isn't a problem. At high levels, well crafted white ambers fetch an easy 10k from Il San hopefuls and yellow ambers sell for a ton. High level tailors making gowns or carpenters manufacturing polearms also earn a lot, but those require a lot of capital to get to the point where they're profitable. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3. Crafting skills +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ All skills follow a set progression of mastery levels: Beginner (food preperation only) Novice Apprentice Accomplished Adept Talented Skilled Expert Master Grand Master Champion Legendary While doing the skill, you may get a message that says "Your (whatever) skill has increased" in your status box. This doesn't necessarily mean to the next level up, just that the skill notation has been "bumped" on your legend. An increase to the next level is accompanied with a popup box notifying you of the accomplishment. ********************* *A. Gathering skills* ********************* Requirement: Level 8 Anybody can become legendary in a gathering skill, provided there is ample time. ------------- |Woodcutting| ------------- Tools: Axe (Buy from Splinter), OR Hunang's Axe (Trapdoor Spider drop) Procedure: Go to a woodcutting grove (see Locations section for woodcutting locations). Equip your axe, stand in front of a tree, and swing. Eventually, you'll get some wood, which is always a cause for celebration. Sometimes, very rarely, you will get a Silver Tree Branch. These are completely worthless as of this writing, unless there is some subpath that needs them for a spell, which is likely. Move from tree to tree, chopping them down, until you have 30 ginko wood, the maximum holdable. An Axe will gather the least amount of wood per chop. A Hunang's Axe will gather more. Yields: Ginko wood Silver tree branch (rarely) Chart: Straight from Daehann, the first legendary woodcutter! (Minor formatting changes made.) Skill level - Your proficiency in the skill. Start off by dropping your shovel and picking it up. If you get a popup that you found something, drop and pick up your pick. Then, you could receive any number of things (or, rarely, fail). It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you drop your shovel 3-4 times on each square, even if it does not initially reveal something. Refining skills* ******************** Requirement: Level 25 Anybody can rise to the skill level of "Accomplished" in any refining skill, but to become "Legendary" you must specialize in one skill for a nominal fee. A small karma bonus comes when you specialize for the first time. Only one skill may be specialized in at a time. Changing specializations will result in the loss of ALL your skill in your previous specialization. Once you reach the "Adept" level in any refining skill, you can use what are referred to as the "Crafting Tables." Using the tables greatly increases the speed at which you advance in the skill and is strongly recommended. ------------ |Gemcutting| ------------ Tools: None Items: Amber Dark amber (Adept skill+) White amber (Adept skill+) Yellow amber (Skilled skill+) Procedure: This one is fairly simple. Gather ambers--almost everything drops one kind or another--and take them to your preferred gemcutting outlet, most likely Sel's Home in the wilderness. Say "Gem" to attempt to beautify your ambers. You have a chance of destroying it, tarnishing it, producing a "Crafted" version, or a "Well crafted" version. Yields (sell price): Tarnished amber (120) Crafted amber (400) Well crafted amber (800) Tarnished dk amber (200) Crafted dk amber (800) Well cftd dk amber (2000) Tarnished wt amber (400) Crafted wt amber (1200) Well cftd wt amber (5000) Tarnished yw amber (50) Crafted yw amber (1750) Well cftd yw amber (5000) Chart: Level Regular Ambers Nothing to Novice 0 Novice to Apprentice 180 Apprentice to Accomplished 300 Accomplished to Adept 1469 Adept to Talented 1611 Talented to Skilled 2641 Skilled to Expert 6897 Expert to Master 7066 ----- TOTAL: 20164 Notes: It is preferable to sell Well cftd wt ambers to other players rather than the NPC. 5 Well cftd white ambers are needed for the Il San trial of wealth, and the open market value them has been steady at 10k for as long as I can remember. Gemcutting was the first skill ever released. It was originally done in Ugh's home before his untimely demise, then moved to its current location. ---------- |Smelting| ---------- Tools: Smelting agreement (Buy from Kugnae Messenger) Items: Ore [poor] Ore [med] Ore [high] Ore [very high] Silver ore Gold ore Spent metal Procedure: Obtain a Smelting agreement from the Kugnae Messenger. Proceed to your smelting area of choice, most likely the Gruff Smith in Sanhae. Say "Smelt" and choose your type of ore to smelt. You will either create slag (which can be sold for a whopping 1 coin), metal, or fine metal. Do not despair--this craft has by far the highest fail rate at lowest levels. Smelting Gold or Silver ore will generate pure money. Hooray! Yields: Slag Metal Fine metal Chart: Level Ore Metal F.Metal Nothing to Novice ? ? ? There are four main sheeping locations, see the location section for details. After obtaining weaving tools (preferably fine, as they make a big difference and don't cost much on the open market), go to your weaving area of choice, likely either Yon's home or the Buya seamstress. Say "Weave" to get to work. After several "Weave"ings, you will make some Cloth or Fine Cloth. Yields: Cloth Fine cloth Chart: Level Wool Nothing to Novice 25 Novice to Apprentice 150 Apprentice to Accomplished 525 Accomplished to Adept 2500 Adept to Talented 4000 Talented to Skilled 6500 Skilled to Expert 13000 Expert to Master 16000 ----- TOTAL: 42700 Notes: A master weaver is required to be present for the final step of the Wind Armor quest. A karma bonus is given to those who perform this service. ************************* *C. Manufacturing skills* ************************* Requirement: Level 50 Any given character can only do ONE manufacturing skill, which must be specialized in. Like refining, changing specializations results in the loss of all skill in the previous specialization. The Ee San trial of culture can be satisfied by becoming a "Master" in any manufacturing skill. Like refining skills, manufacturing skills have "Tables" which are usable at the "Adept" skill level. ----------- |Carpentry| ----------- Tools: None Items: Ginko wood Procedure: With your ginko wood, go to Splinter, the carpenter. Say "Wood," then choose what you would like to try and make. Weaving tools advance your skill the fastest. If you make scraps, you can attempt to salvage them back into ginko wood by saying "Scraps". Yields: Wood scraps Weaving tools Fine weaving tools Wooden sword Supple wooden sword Wooden blade Supple wooden blade Viperhead woodsaber Supple vprhd saber Viperhead woodsword Supple vprhd sword Closed quiver (spring through earth) Chart: All attempts were with weaving tools. Despite its complete lack of monetary reimbursement, it is the skill of choice for the Ee San trial. ---------- |Smithing| ---------- Tools: None Items: Metal Fine metal Procedure: With your metal, go to either the Buya or Kugnae smith. Say "Metal" and choose what you would like to try and create. You may need to say "Metal" several times to completely forge a blade. Always attempt to forge the highest blade possible. It is the most economical and advances your skill the fastest. Failure could result in "Spent metal," which you can attempt to resmelt. Yields (cost): Spent metal Steel dagger (2 metal) Fine steel dagger (2 metal) Steel saber (3 metal) Fine steel saber (3 metal) Steel sword (4 metal) Fine steel sword (4 metal) Steel blade (5 metal) Fine steel blade (5 metal) Darts (3 metal) Chart: Level Metal Nothing to Novice 36 Novice to Apprentice 106 Apprentice to Accomplished 217 Accomplished to Adept 1722 Adept to Talented 2755 Talented to Skilled 9870 Skilled to Expert 18504 Expert to Master 25000 ----- TOTAL: 58210 Notes: A smith can work with a tailor to produce warrior and rogue armor. ----------- |Tailoring| ----------- Tools: None Items: Cloth Fine cloth Procedure: Go to Lin Cloth in Sanhae and say "Tailor." Choose what you would like to try and make. Then, you will either fail or receive a version of what you chose in anywhere from Spring to Star quality. Spring-quality garments can ONLY be made by Novice and Apprentice tailors, so if you want to try and make a Spring Mantle or Drapery to sell (they are worth 30-40k on the market), do it then. It is best to make mainly Gowns and Robes. They only cost 2 bolts of cloth, can be immediately resold to Lin, and are worth the most out of all the 2-bolt items. Yields (cost): In Spring to Star quality: Garb (2 cloth) Dress (2 cloth) Clothes (3 cloth) Skirt (3 cloth) Waistcoat (2 cloth) Blouse (2 cloth) Robes (2 cloth) Gown (2 cloth) Mantle (3 cloth) Drapery (3 cloth) Chart: Level Cloth Nothing to Apprentice 500-1500 Apprentice to Accomplished 1250-1500 Accomplished to Adept 1500-2350 Adept to Talented 3200-4050 Talented to Skilled 8100-10300 Skilled to Expert 12000-13155 Expert to Master 14300-15642 ----------- TOTAL: 41295-48497 Notes: Mantles and draperies are only available through tailoring. Spring versions in particular are worth a lot of money by selling them to other people. A master tailor is required to be present for the final step of the Wind Armor quest. A karma bonus is given to those who perform this service. A tailor can work with a smith to produce warrior and rogue armor. ----------- |Jewelling| ----------- Tools: None Items: Crafted amber Well cftd amber Crafted dk amber Well cftd dk amber Crafted wt amber Well cftd wt amber Crafted yw amber Well cftd yw amber Gold (1k-?k) Procedure: Go to Sel in the wilderness and say "Jewel". He will take two crafted units of whichever type of amber you select (normal, dark, white, or yellow) and some gold, then possibly give you back a ring. You can mix different grades of crafting (e.g. use a crafted and well crafted in the same attempt). This skill is relatively new, so information will be added as it is discovered. Yields (projected): Small (amber type) ring Medium (amber type) ring Large (amber type) ring Small (totem animal) ring Medium (totem animal) ring Large (totem animal) ring Notes: Occasionally, you will get a message that "The totems have blessed your work!" When that happens, you will get a totem ring instead of a normal one. **************** *D. Food skills* **************** Requirement: Level 11 Food skills may be practiced by anybody. They have no effect on other skills. ------------------ |Food preperation| ------------------ Tools: None Items: Lean beef Beef Chicken meat Bird meat Any type of Fish Tiger meat Egg Wheat Procedure: Gather the required items. Go to Min's butcher in Hausson and say "Prepare (whatever)", where (whatever) is either Beef, Chicken, Fish, Tiger, Egg, or Wheat. To get Wheat, go to the wheat field in Kugnae with a mining shovel. Then, act like you were woodcutting with the shovel on the tilled earth. Every so often, you might find either peas (which are worthless) or wheat (which isn't). Yields: Grilled beef Roast chicken Boiled fish Fried egg Broiled meat Flour Chart: Level Beef Nothing to Beginner 150 Beginner to Novice 300 Novice to Apprentice 400 Apprentice to Accomplished 1000 Accomplished to Adept 1800 Adept to Talented 3000 Talented to Skilled 6000 Skilled to Expert 10000 Expert to Master 40000 ----- TOTAL: 62650 Notes: For the first few days when food prep was released, Min sold several cookable items so people could advance in the craft quickly. ---------- |Cheffing| ---------- Tools: None Items: Salt block Flour Water jug Procedure: You must be an Accomplished food preparer to attempt Cheffing. Gather all of the required items and say "Prepare noodles" to Min. To get salt blocks, buy some Cloth from a tailor or make it yourself. Go to the eastern edge of Dae Shore along the beach. Then, walk along the shore, dropping and picking up the cloth, until you get a Salt Block. This will consume the piece of cloth. Water jugs are only attainable during the Pirate events. However, they are cheap, as during the last one it was easy to get hundreds of jugs. So buy them from other players. To refill them, go to the stairs of the river in northwestern Kugnae and drop the jug. It will refill automatically. Then choose a type of rod and bait. According to Tojalak, for most economic results, choose "Stick and String" (10 coins) and "Worms" (5 coins). This will yield the highest fish-to-money ratio. According to SilentS, 100/50 is a better choice because it yields more Small fish. I don't know what to say; I don't fish often. Large, Tasty, and Delicious fish only result from 1000/50, 100/500, or 1000/500 fishing. Yields: Tiny fish Scrawny fish Small fish Large fish Tasty fish Delicious fish *Special events* Chart: Tojalak's in-progress chart: Using only the 15-coin option (detailed above) Level Tiny/Scra/Smal/Larg/Tast/Deli Total Nothing to Novice 20 /15 /0 /0 /0 /0 35 Novice to Apprentice 60 /45 /0 /0 /0 /0 150 Apprentice to Accomplished 470 /380 /0 /0 /0 /0 1000 Accomplished to Adept 568 /552 /0 /0 /0 /0 2120 Notes: Very rarely, you may find a "Magical fish". You will be given the option to throw it back or keep it. Throw it back and you will get "Sea Melodies". This is a 75-page book that restores a little bit of mana per use. There are not very many in existence. In an even more rare case, your line may get caught on something. If you attempt to pull it out, you have a 50/50 chance of either dying or getting... a FLAMEBLADE! I think it's worth the risk. From SilentS: "Getting a Magical Fish is more common than getting your line snagged (for FB) ((I have recieved a message for that fish 3 times so far between Accomplished and Adept)). As it is because Fishing is a skill now, it is rumored that you can't even get a chance to get a FB unless you are at least skilled." Two common messages while fishing: "You seem to be putting on some weight." This is permanent loss of 1 vitality. "You feel guilty about ignoring your responsibilities." This is loss of karma. The exact amount is unknown, but considering the vitality loss, it is probably infintesimal. These messages are random. ****************** *E. Mental skills* ****************** Requirements: Poet or Mage level 50 A poet or mage may choose ONE mental skill to specialize in. Mental skills are considered to be the most difficult and least rewarding skills, especially Alchemy. ---------- |Scribing| ---------- Tools: None Items: 1 White paper, 1 Ink, 1 Amber (Scroll of Protection) 3 White paper, 1 Ink, 1 Dark amber (Scroll of Invocation, Apprentice+) 1 Moon paper, 1 Ink, 2 White amber (Scroll of Defense, Accomplished+) 4 Well cftd wt amber, 3 Moon paper, 1 Purple potion (Scroll of Immortality, Talented+) Procedure: Go to the top of Scribe's mountain. For those of you who are married and hate long walks in the Vale, I believe that you can use the love ring to get to either the top or the screen before the top of the mountain, so steal your spouse for a few minutes while you craft. Yields: Scroll of Protection (protects from curses for 250s) Scroll of Invocation (casts Invoke) Scroll of Defense (protects from curses for 350s) Scroll of Immortality (may cast Harden Body for 16s) Chart: No (understandable) chart exists for this complicated skill. Techniques +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Always, if possible, craft during your totem time until you are at Legendary skill. It has been proved that you will advance faster during that period. Here's a writeup from Gildenstar describing how to most efficiently use crafting tables: "From Gildenstar ~ Hello all, For several Yuri's now I have been testing different method's of crafting. This Crafting guide is mainly geared towards those who use crafting "tables" example: Looms, Gem tables, Forges, Wood cutting tables to hone their skills at crafting. If you use these tables you will notice that there are four options to choose from. Most people just pick whichever one works the best for them when they go to use them BUT did you know that there is a method to it? I will show you the method. Each of the four ways of crafting represents a totem animal. It is always in this order: Hyun moo Ju jak Chung Ryong Baekho Each of the four ways works best during its totem time regardless of what your totem animal is. Thus.. during hyun moo time it is always best to use option number 1. During Ju jak it is always best to use option number 2 and so on. Now some people might say "No it is best to do crafting during your totem time. I always do it then" Well.. in a sense I suppose it is true. However, keep in mind, you do not make more money during that time... your skill levels just raise quicker. So.. give it a try. I've found this method works best with gemcutting! Good luck to all and happy crafting! Gildenstar totem times: c.ryong 04-09 jujak 10-15 baekho 16-21 hyunmoo 22-03" Useful. I once heard a technique for crafting ambers with the table that I have never been able to confirm. This, allegedly, will yield the BEST (but not fastest-advancing) results: For regular ambers, use the south side and fourth option. For dark ambers, use the east side and fourth option. For white ambers, use the north side and first option. For yellow ambers, use the west side and first option. Of course, this contradicts Gildenstar's method above. Personally, I trust that one more than this one, but I've heard this from more than one person. Certain paths advance faster in certain skills. For instance: Warrior have a slight bonus in smelting and smithing. Poets have a slight bonus in weaving and tailoring. (Muses have an additional bonus.) Rogues have a slight bonus in gemcutting and carpentry. (Merchants have an additional bonus in gemcutting.) Mages have no bonuses. There may still be levels after Legendary. LocoSam reports that he still gets "Your skill has increased" messages at Legendary Smelter, something that did not happen at the previously highest level. Or this could be a bug. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 7. Market prices +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This section is, at the moment, highly volatile. I'm no merchant, so I have no idea about most of these--some, as far as I know, don't really have a big market (preparable foods especially). Ginko wood: Very expensive (700k per thousand) Poor ore: 4k per 25 Med ore: 6k per 25 High ore: 8k per 25 Very high ore: 9k per 25 Wool: 8k per 25 Cloth: 12k per 20 Fine cloth: 12k per 20 Metal: ?
