Walkthrough ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2A. Normal Game ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As the fourth chapter of the series begins, Kyle is sailing for the town of Jaronnia, intent on meeting up with his traveling companion Kenny. The two had been forced to split up before, and Kyle can't wait to see him again. The boat lands shortly, and you'll find yourself right outside of town. First, take a quick look at Kyle's inventory and stats. You have a decent amount of HP and rather balanced stats at the start, but zero SP. Kyle can't use magic at all, even later in the game, so don't expect those stats to rise. You'll be fine with your fighting prowess, though! You'll have a weak Knife and a T-Shirt equipped, which both have a Value of 200. That's the price it would be worth if you bought it in a shop, so that means you would earn half of that amount if you sold them, which you shouldn't do yet. You'll also find that you have a Memopad and Monster Book. The Memopad will always tell you what you're supposed to do on the next leg of your quest, and the Monster Book stores data on all the monsters you've encountered. You also have 30G to your name, showing your last adventure probably wasn't a profitable one. Just click on Jaronnia when you're ready to enter it, and Kyle'll do as you command! Upon entering town, you'll immediately see the Tavern and Inn, symbolized by the signs that show a cup of coffee and the word "INN". This means that we should avoid the place until we're ready to get to the actual plot of the game, so let's see what else the town has to offer. You can talk to the old man in the purple robes by the Inn to hear about the local undead pirates, and how they're going to attack soon. To the east of the Inn is a well, and to the north of the well, is an old woman. She mentions that Kenny set off to defeat the Pirate King, who is in the cave directly west of town. The old woman seems to think Kenny doesn't know what direction west is, which makes the success of his attack doubtful. To the east of the old woman, you'll find a villager who discusses pirate-torture techniques, and you'll find the local Weapon and Armor Shop, identified by the sword and armor you see on the signs. Inside, you can speak to the dancing merchants by clicking on the counter in front of them. Chances are you can't buy any equipment yet, but you may want to save up for that Hammer and Tunic. South of the Weapon and Armor shop, you'll find both a man mentioning more about the pirates, and the Item Shop, with its sign of a bottle. You may want to pick up a Cure Potion or two, to help heal yourself in battle, and a Tent to heal after a long walk across the map. Unlike some RPGs out there, where you can buy more healing items than you'll ever need and have it take up one space in your inventory, each item takes up a space, so don't go crazy on purchases yet. Now, to the Inn! Say hi to the bunny girl, and then talk to the barkeep as she suggests. Kenny has indeed went off to fight the Pirate King, and wants you to follow him! He also says that there is an idiot to the north of Jaronnia who's trying to take down the bridge, and move it so you can cross the river to the west. He's supposed to just make a new bridge, so we'll be sure to tell him. Lastly, Kenny left you a ring, but the barkeep has lost it, and wants you to come back for it when you beat up the Pirate King. Head out of town, and start walking north across the grasses. The Slimes and Trippin' Lizards should not be too much of a problem for you, but avoid the forests for now, as the Arachnids and Audrey IIs will quickly slaughter you. You can return to Jaronnia to heal up at the Inn if you're taking a lot of damage, and it might not be a bad idea to take the time to get some levels and equipment upgrades, though you may want to wait until you reach the next town. When you're ready, talk to the man guarding the bridge to the north. This is the man the barkeep mentioned, and the lazy guy'll walk off to talk to the barkeep himself, letting us cross the bridge. If you continue north of the bridge, you'll soon reach the town of Terrania. Terrania seems to be the town for people who dislike being slaughtered by pirates or dealing with "special" people, such as the crazy man living in the nearby cave. It's also a vacation spot for a man wearing a hat! The barkeep in town makes some good drinks, though, like the Soda and Slushie. These are cheaper healing items than the Cure Potion, and thus heal less HP when used. As you'll be using up an item slot for each healing item you buy, you'll probably only use the Sodas and Slushies for the early parts of the game, and use the stronger Cure Potions later. The man near the bar also gives you the option of turning off the Location-Bar that tells you where you are when you enter towns and caves and the like, for those wishing to test their psychic abilities, or those who blindly trust all walkthroughs they read. Back outside of the tavern in Terrania, you can visit the Item Shop if you need Cure Potions or Tents, and you can check out the Weapon and Armor Shop for some top of the line equipment, the best of the bunch being the Sword and the Bomber Jacket. They're going to cost a lot of money, but if you haven't upgraded your gear yet, you might want to consider these, or save your money for the best possible gear you can get at this point in the game, which is coming up! The Hermit's Cave, north of Terrania, is where the crazy guy lives. Tell me, does owning a toilet make you a crazy person in an RPG? Well, most of the time, I guess it does. You can talk to the crazy guy to hear some cryptic rambling, which you may wish to write down, since there's always a use for such cryptic riddles later on in the game. You can also fish around in the toilet for a piece of Dung, you sicko. Now, the game wants us to walk a little bit south of Terrania, and then west over the bridge. Of course, we're not going to do this yet, so walk across the bridge to the north instead. To the west is where you'll find the town of Hydrianna, a town with a large river right in the center of town. The Weapon and Armor Shop in town has the best gear you can get before you actually decide to help Kenny beat the Pirate King, so buy that Emcee Hammer and Leather Armor if you can afford them. The news around town is how Kenny tailed some of the undead pirates when they pillaged this town recently. But I thought he was in the cave near Jaronnia? More news follows, about how the Mayor of Hydrianna gets tired of his little tourist trap, and takes frequent vacations in other towns. The man operating the town's bridge is vacationing on the job himself, so you can't cross yet. Other than that, and the Tavern's Sodas and Slushies, there isn't anything else of note in town yet. When you're finally all ready to take on the Pirate King, head back south across the bridge, west across a second bridge, south, and then east until you find the entrance to a cave. It's the Abandoned Cave, where the pirates are! As you enter the cave, move west, and look at the note on the wall. It's from Kenny! The pirates're planning to attack Aaronnia, a castle we have yet to visit, and Kenny'll be following them. So, now what do we do? Start back towards the entrance of the cave, and you'll see that a group of the bony brutes are leaving for Aaronnia. Continue east, then heal and save up before going north, to find the Pirate King himself! After a quick exchange of words, combat begins. The Pirate King is tougher than any of the other enemies you have faced to this point, but you have hopefully gained a few levels and purchased some gear to help out with that. Strike away, and don't be afraid to use Cure Potions as necessary. If you think you're about to die, and you realize that you haven't saved, you can use the Dung to leave the battle, and take him on again when you're set. After you've won, the Pirate King will collapse into a pile of bones, his flaming spirit retreating for now. Kyle will automatically search the remains, and you'll get the Legendary Wings, an item that adds +15 to your AGL stat! Very nice. We need to figure out how to get to Aaronnia now, but first, head out of the Abandoned Cave, and you'll see a new bridge to the east leading to Jaronnia. We need to go there anyway and talk to the barkeep in the Inn to see if he's found the ring Kenny left us, so hurry on across! After talking to him, you'll find out that Aaronnia is to the northwest, and he'll give you... nope, the ring's broken now. He offers to pay Kenny back for the ring, but this is definitely not a fun turn of events. As if to make up for this incident, the barkeep will start to sell Soda and Slushies. That ring would've been nicer... Don't forget to heal up and restock your supplies while you are here! Once everything's settled, head off to Hydrianna, and see if the sleeping guy who operates the bridge has woken up. As if roused from his slumber by a plot point, he'll be awake, but things won't be that easy. We'll have to go to Terrania and try to find the vacationing Mayor for permission first! This is rather simple, thankfully, as he's lounging by the umbrella in the northern part of town. For the good of the land, he'll give you the Mayor's Letter, to show to the bridge operator. Back to Hydrianna! After looking over the note, we're able to finally cross the bridge to the western side of town, which had a run-in with the pirates as well. Many of the villages were killed, but that doesn't stop them from being happy to share some gossip about it. Perhaps it's part of their therapy? If that's enough, supposedly the creator visits the Inn on his birthday. Mhmm... The Item Shop is selling, along with the normal list, Translocators and Escape Ropes. Translocators teleport you to any town you'd want to return to, and Escape Ropes allow you to teleport out of a dungeon. Neat! Those could end up being very handy! Now, let's head out of town. There's a new area to explore, and with it, new monsters! While the forest monsters are the same, the grasslands contain the Dhali Zombie, a durable undead monster. You shouldn't have a problem defeating them after the Pirate King, though. You can also fight an Albatross, though the encounters seem to be a bit rarer. Journey north across the bridge, west over another bridge, and north over a third one, and you'll find the town of Colonnia! This is where the survivors of the Castle Aaronnia explosion years ago reside, which is what reduced the pirates to their undead state. A girl by the entrance of town mentions a secret passage in Castle Aaronnia's throne oom, which will surely be of use to us in the future. You can meet Robby the Rabite, who was bought as a pet from the town of Mana to the south. Robby seems to think he's a Moogle, however, so maybe this wasn't a sound purchase. You can check out the local shops, and possibly upgrade your gear to the Short Sword and the Studded Armor. When you're ready, travel west over the bridge to Castle Aaronnia. The place looks pretty good considering it was blown up years back, and has three separate floors. Continue straight ahead as you enter the Castle, and you'll find the throne room! Walk behind the throne, and you'll find a hidden staircase to the basement, where you will find the Pirate King, holding Kenny captive! It's time to beat the bag of bones up again, and it shouldn't be very difficult for you. He has more HP, but chances are good that if you've kept your gear upgraded, that you won't even be hit by him. When the fight is over, the Pirate King blasts a hole through Kenny, and the wall behind him, leaving us to wonder why he didn't decide to do so to us in the fight we just had. After calling him a bastard, the Pirate King's spirit floats off again, leaving us with Gaia's Tooth, an item that adds 15 points to our STR! Walk west, through the hole in the wall where Kenny once stood, and you'll come to a room of treasure chests. Most of them are empty, but one of them contains 250G. Walk back out of the treasure room, and continue south, and we'll soon find ourselves outside of the cave, in an unexplored part of the world! You'll fight Chocobozos as you explore the grasslands, a familiar-looking bird to many gamers. There are also Skeletons, wandering units of the Pirate King's forces, so make sure to take them out as you see them! Both enemies have a decent chance of hitting you hard, so don't ignore them totally. After crossing the bridge to the south, you have the choice of continuing with your quest, or taking a quick stop for a little side-quest. The choice is up to you, but I'll describe the side-quest in the following sections, so skip ahead four paragraphs if you wish. Head to the east after crossing the bridge, and we will pass a cave and reach the town of Mana. The news about town is all about monsters, such as the domesticated Rabites raised by Noah, the local monster tamer. There's also talk about some monsters in the cave to the west, and how other than their habit of eating Rabites, that they're guarding a treasure that could be a great benefit to whoever has it. Sounds pretty interesting! The local Item Shop has the usual stock of items, and the Weapon and Armor Shop has better equipment, like the Divine Hammer and the Iron Armor. You can wait until we get to the next town if you'd like, for even better gear; it's your call. The Rabite near the Inn also has 50G for you! If you follow the northern path out of town, you'll reach Noah's house. Inside, Noah talks about how he's now decided to make a monster ranch. He asks for your help, and informs the Item Shop to start selling you Munchies, for monster taming! Some monsters need to be fed different amounts of Munchies to be tamed, but each pack of Munchies that you buy can be used up to five times, so it's not too bad. You might even want to take a tour of the world so far to tame all the monsters you can by this point. Or not, it's your call. If you ever tame all the monsters, though, you'll win a nice prize! Now, once you're ready, and have bought an Escape Rope and some Cure Potions, head out of town and into the cave to the west, the Mana Cave. There's only one kind of enemy in this cave, the Rabite-eating Spam! Whether it is the canned meat, or the entity who is tormenting the world with junk emails, Spam is the toughest enemy we've faced yet in this game, including both forms of the Pirate King. It's fast, hits hard, and has lots of HP. It's also the best source of EXP we've found, so if you can beat some, you might want to leave, heal up at the Inn, and get in some fights. This treasure better be worth it! After entering the cave, walk west, then north to an intersection. There's nothing to the east, so go west. If you go south, you'll just find a big empty room, so walk north instead, heading east when you can, and you'll find a chest with the treasure of the Spams, the Life Force! This handy item boosts your Max HP by 100, which definitely doesn't hurt you at all. Maybe this is why Spam of all kinds is so hard to kill... In any case, use that handy Escape Rope to get out of this dungeon, heal up, and let's walk back to the west so we can continue with the game! Whether or not you did the little side-quest in Mana, it's now time to continue on. Walk south of the bridge that we crossed after leaving the Aaronnia Cave, and we'll reach a desert. Dragons roam the desert, blasting you with their Fire Bracelet, but your armor should give you some protection. There is also the Sun Fizz, a puffy desert spore. A little ways into the desert, you'll find a town next to an oasis, which is appropriately called Oasis. One citizen mentions a path leading out of this land, just past a cave to the southeast. How convienient! Another person mentions Jenny, and how she is both hot and crazy, for talking about her special place. Maybe she's just trying to make you leave her alone, ever consider that? Her special place, once you talk to her in the eastern side of town, seems to be to the left of some bed. Maybe she's not trying to drive that other guy away, but get him into her bedroom? Don't forget to go shopping for a Long Sword and some Opal Armor, as these are the best items you can purchase in the game. The Item Shop has a new item, the Sandstorm. It'll help you escape from a battle, and if you're having trouble with the earlier side quest still, this could be just what you need! To the southeast of Oasis, you'll find a cave leading to the Desert Pass. It's a pretty empty cave, just walk east and then south to the exit. You'll emerge in the grasslands on the other side of the mountain, with a forest leading west. Now, make sure you're healed up after passing the tiny gap in the forest, as just before you reach the town up ahead, you'll find the Pirate King for the third and final time! This is the fight you've journeyed through the game to get, so tear into him! Once he falls, he'll explode, threatening to return. While this last duel with the Pirate King does trigger an event or two elsewhere in the world, all it takes is about two steps to the west to reach the end of the game, and even more unlocked events, so go ahead! Kill two birds with one stone! After walking into the next town, you'll see a screen mentioning how you've reached your goal, with Kenny's life the cost. Since you have just completed the game for the first time, you will also gain the Closet Key, and reach Valhalla, to speak to the All-Father Odin. If you've died previously in the game, then you know Odin is the one who allows you to revive at the cost of half your Gold. He's also going to let you start a New Game + mode, where you can replay through No Bones About it Deluxe with a few perks! When you're ready, why not give it a try? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2B. New Game + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi! If you're reading this, chances are you've completed the Normal Game, and are now starting your New Game + file. That, or you were curious. Well, go beat the game if you haven't, then come back! You'll have most of your equipment from the previous game, such as Cure Potions, the weapons and armor you had equipped, the Life Force if you earned it, and the Closet Key from beating the game. You won't have any Translocators, though, so you'll have to hoof it through the plot points for a while. You're going to have to regain the Legendary Wings and Gaia's Tooth from defeating the Pirate King at the appropriate points during the game, but that won't be hard. You will keep all of your experience and levels from your last game, though, and your Monster Ranch still has whatever monsters you tamed, so it won't be a tough journey at all! So where does this game differ from the normal game? The first place you'll notice something different is after defeating the Pirate King for the first time in the Abandoned Cave. When you return to Jaronnia to talk to the barkeep, he won't drop the ring that Kenny left for you! You'll gain the Sight Ring, which will let us see and enter secret areas we couldn't find without it! One of these places is right inside Jaronnia, inside of the well. Here, in a secret area appropriately called ???, we'll find some extra enemies to fight, as well as a bonus boss! However, you'll probably want some of the other goodies we can get in the game first, so that we can stand a better chance of winning. So, for now, leave the well where it is, and continue until you reach the Hermit's Cave. Remember what Jenny from Oasis said, about when you're in bed, to go left to her secret place? Well, now that we have the Sight Ring, we can sit in the Hermit's bed, and walk west through his wall! You'll find yourself in another section of the cave, so continue north, then east and north outside. There's a desert here, and to the northwest of the cave, you'll find the Desert Castle. The owner of the castle is Kain, a familiar sight to some gamers, and apparently the guy Jenny likes to visit. He's been watching Kyle's quest, and hands over the BFG-9000, the game's strongest weapon. Thanks, Kain! The next place of interest is in Hydrianna, in the Inn. Now that we've defeated the Pirate King three times, at least in the last file, you can enter the door to the left of the innkeeper. If you remember what the little girl in the western part of town said, then you should know this is the creator's room! You can talk to the blue Ikariya, and use your Closet Key on the closet to change Kyle's outfit to one that looks more appropriate for adventuring! The chest contains the BorderTool, an item to change the look of your text windows if you want. Finally, if you visit the creator's room on his birthday, you'll find him waiting for you! It's Rob, also known as Robert Denner, and since he made the game, I suppose he's the creator of the world. When's his birthday? That would be June 30, and you can either wait however many months it will take before it is that date in real life, or you can alter your Palm Pilot or Windows time so that the game thinks it's June 30, then stroll into the room. ^^ Rob will hand you a Rabite's Tail after you've spoken to him. It makes it so a specific monster can drop an item after battle, so of course it's useful. It starts off at a 3% chance, and increases by 3% each time you've beaten the game, until it reaches 50%. So if you're getting this now on your first New Game + file, it should be at 6%. After improving the percentage of your Rabite's Tail a few times, reclaiming your Legendary Wings and Gaia's Tooth, and getting the Life Force if you passed it up before, you should now be ready for the well in Jaronnia. Return to town, and descend into ???. The waterways of ??? contain the Goldenfish, a monster that's worth a lot of gold when defeated. Slosh east through the water, then step onto the dry land to the north. Here, you can fight the Hemoblobin and Jookster, two tough little monsters that are far less gold-plated. They're the last two randomly fought monsters in the game, however, so if you manage to them as well as all the other monsters, you can go visit Noah in Mana to get the Warrior Badge, which doubles the experience you gain! Yay! ^^ Anyway, back to the dungeon. Continue all the way north, then move west and then south. Fight further west, then hurry north, where you'll see a swirling dimensional portal. Don't walk in unless you've saved and healed up, because you're going to be having a big boss fight on the other side! It's Valhalla, and the only reason to visit Valhalla while alive is to challenge the All-Father himself to a fight! Keep blasting away at him, making sure to heal as necessary, but try not to prolong the fight either. After you've defeated Odin, you may gain the Aegis Armor, the best armor in the game! The percentage for getting this is exactly what your Rabite's Tail says, so if you really want this, go beat the game a few more times! You can only win it once, however. Odin will return you to Jaronnia, and also give you the Aegis Award, which just shows you your best time defeating Odin, for bragging rights. ^^ Well, that is it, you have now fully completed No Bones About It Deluxe! ~~~~~~~~ 3. Lists ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ 3A. Weapons ~~~~~~~~~~~ Weapons are what help you destroy all the monsters! Kyle has natural strength, STR, which helps you dish out more damage. Each weapon has a range of damage it can dish out, so the more potential damage, the better. For example, if your Diamond Glove can do 30-40 damage, and a Divine Hammer does 35-40, you'll be doing more damage overall with the Divine Hammer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name | Buy | Sell | Damage | Obtained ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Axe | 3200G | 1600G | Does 35-45 damage. | Oasis ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BFG-9000 | N/A | N/A | Does 50-75 damage. | Desert Castle ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cleaver | 2000G | 1000G | Does 20-30 damage. | Colonnia ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dagger | 1400G | 700G | Does 15-20 damage. | Hydrianna ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Diamond Glove | 2800G | 1400G | Does 30-40 damage. | Mana ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Divine Hammer | 3000G | 1500G | Does 35-40 damage. | Mana ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emcee Hammer | 1800G | 900G | Does 20-25 damage. | Hydrianna ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flail | 1000G | 500G | Does 10-15 damage. | Terrania ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hammer | 600G | 300G | Does 5-10 damage. | Jaronnia ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hatchet | 800G | 400G | Does 5-15 damage. | Terrania ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iron Knuckles | 400G | 200G | Does 1-10 damage. | Jaronnia ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Knife | 200G | 100G | Does 1-5 damage. | Starting gear, Jaronnia ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Long Sword | 3600G | 1800G | Does 40-50 damage. | Oasis ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scimitar | 2600G | 1300G | Does 30-35 damage. | Mana ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sickle | 3400G | 1700G | Does 40-45 damage. | Oasis ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short Sword | 2400G | 1200G | Does 25-35 damage. | Colonnia ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike Knuckles | 1600G | 800G | Does 15-25 damage. | Hydrianna ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sword | 1200G | 600G | Does 10-20 damage. | Terrania ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whip | 2200G | 1100G | Does 25-30 damage. | Colonnia ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~~~~~~~ 3B. Memopad Notes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This section, as the name states, is just a listing of what your Memopad says throughout the game. I've copied it directly out of the game, spelling and all, as well as listing when you gain that note, and when it's replaced by a different one. "Kenny said he'd meet me in the town of Jaronnia. He's probably taken a room at the inn, or hanging out at the tavern, so I should check there first." Gained: After starting the game. Replaced: After talking to the barkeep in Jaronnia. "Kenny went to battle the Pirate King in the Cave West of Jaronnia. Maybe I can catch up to him. He'll probably need my help." Gained: After talking to the barkeep in Jaronnia. Replaced: After defeating the Pirate King in the Abandoned Cave. "Kenny decided to follow the undead pirates to the Castle of Aaronnia. I wonder if anyone can tell me how to get there... Oh yeah, I have to return to the barkeep in Jaronnia and pick up that ring." Gained: After defeating the Pirate King in the Abandoned Cave. Replaced: After talking to the barkeep in Jaronnia again. "Kenny decided to follow the undead pirates to the Castle of Aaronnia. Supposedly, it's to the North-West of this land." Gained: After talking to the barkeep in Jaronnia again. Replaced: After talking to the girl near the entrance of Colonnia. "According to a villager in Colonnia Castle, there should be a hidden staircase in the throne room. The Pirate King is probably keeping Kenny in there." Gained: After talking to the girl near the entrance of Colonnia. Replaced: After defeating the Pirate King in Castle Aaronnia.
"I can't believe the Pirate King blasted Kenny like that! There's nothing I can do now except continue on my journey... But how to I get out of this land? Maybe I should try going South of Aaronnia Cave..." Gained: After the defeating the Pirate King in Castle Aaronnia. Replaced: After talking to the girl near the entrance of Oasis. "According to a villager in Oasis, there's a cave in the South-East of the desert that will lead me to a town that leads outside of the mountain area..." Gained: After talking to the girl near the entrance of Oasis. Replaced: After beating the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5.
