Introduction --- Bababadalgharaghtakammin arronnkonnbronntonnerronn tuonnthunntrovarrhounawns kawntoohoohoordenenthurnuk (my guess at the official spelling of the title of the game; Finding the official spelling seems impossible) is a port of an online PC game that is several years old by Terry Cavanagh. It is extremely short (I can beat it in well under five minutes), extremely explicit in its language, and extremely strange. It can be tough to see it to "completion" unless one knows what they are doing, which is why I wrote this short FAQ. If you walk into this game expecting an amazing gameplay experience, prepare to be disappointed. However, you WILL be able to boast that you played the game with the most unpronounceable name in history and experienced its "unique charm." --- 2. Updates --- Version 1 - Completed FAQ. --- 3. Controls --- The buttons shown here will be different if you are using a third-party controller. As all of the face buttons share the same function in this game (and will do the same on most third-party controllers), this is unlikely to be confusing. D-Pad/Left Analog Stick - Moves your character. O/U/Y/A Buttons - Shoots weapon. O/U/Y/A Buttons (depressed) - Continuously fire your weapon (machine gun only). O/U/Y/A Buttons - Talks (overworld only). O/U/Y/A Buttons - Selects an option. --- 4. Basics --- There are only a few basic elements of gameplay in Bababadalgharaghtakammin arronnkonnbronntonnerronn tuonnthunntrovarrhounawns kawntoohoohoordenenthurnuk. *** 4a. Weapons *** If you run out of all of your ammo for all of your weapons, your character is unarmed and defenseless. You cannot switch your weapons at any time except by running out of ammo. If you acquire ammo for a weapon you ran out of, it will become your primary weapon provided you do not have a "higher level" weapon. The weapons are detailed below, shown from lowest to highest rank: 1. Pistol - Your starting weapon that is inexplicably blue and the weakest of the three. It starts with 12 bullets. Ammo pickups for the pistol add 6 bullets. Enemies need 3 pistol shots to die. 2. Machine Gun - A yellow(!?) weapon that can be automatically fired by holding down the O, U, Y, or A button. It starts with 10 ammo when found, and additional pickups increase its ammo by 10. Enemies need 2 machine gun shots to die. While it may be tempting to hose down enemies with the machine gun, firing single shots out of it is preferable unless you are rushed by many enemies at once; Ammo is very scarce in this game. 3. RPG Launcher - A red weapon that kills all on-screen and nearby enemies when fired (regardless of if you have a direct line of sight to them or not). You start with 3 rockets. There are no ammo pickups for it. Firing the RPG takes you to the overworld. See section 4c, "The Overworld." *** 4b. Health *** Your character starts with 100 health. Health does not auto-regenerate. The only way to regain health is to collect health pickups, which restore 25 points of health. Your character's health cannot exceed 100. Enemy "attacks" (bumping into an enemy) will never exceed 18 points of damage. Once your health falls below 0 (the character does not die if it reaches 0 exactly), the game is over. *** 4c. The Overworld *** Upon using the RPG Launcher, your character is transported to the overworld. In the overworld, you can take 25 steps (the overworld is arranged like a grid, and each step moves you one square). You can talk to as many people as you like. Moving off the screen causes it to scroll, Legend of Zelda style. You cannot walk through buildings, people, or on water. After taking 25 steps, you are transported back to the main game. More than the game's violence, the dialogue by your character here if you choose to talk to others is what makes this game unsuitable for children (it is extremely explicit by video game standards). If you wish to talk to everybody, it is best to proceed through the overworld in a counterclockwise fashion. You can visit the overworld three times, once after each shot of the RPG launcher. After you have used up the ammo of the RPG launcher, you cannot return. *** 4d. Enemies *** There is only one type of enemy in this game: Generic men in orange shirts. The enemies have no ranged attacks. However, their attacks quickly rattle down your health. Due to the camera, you can miss an enemy and easily lose 32+ points of health before you have time to react, so you must use caution. Their close-range attack does 11-18 points of damage. --- 5. Walkthrough --- For some, just a skeleton walkthrough will be enough to guide them through the game. For this reason, I have provided both a full-length and an abridged walkthrough. *** 5a. - Short-form Walkthrough *** 1. Acquire the pistol. 2. Kill 4 enemies and pick up 2 packs of pistol ammo. 3. Acquire the machine gun. 4. Kill 8 enemies and pick up 3 health packs, 2 packs of pistol ammo, and 3 packs of machine gun ammo. 5. (Optional) Acquire the RPG launcher, kill all on-screen enemies 3 times (they appear in large bunches), making a trip to the overworld each time. 6. Enter a large, open room. The music changes, enemies endlessly respawn randomly (use extreme caution), and ammo endlessly respawns (VERY slowly). Until you hit step 6 above, you have not "beaten" the game. Dying before step 6 shows that your character is disappointed and wants more action. After step 6, your character is "satisfied" and a counter of how many enemies you killed ("Hail Marys" appears). *** Part B: Full Walkthrough *** Upon starting the game, walk straight and go through the hallway. There is an enemy in the room at the end of the hallway; kill him with 3 shots of your pistol (all enemies require three pistol shots to be killed). Go through the room and pick up the 2 packs of pistol ammo (adding 12 bullets). Enter the next hallway and proceed slowly. Just around the second corner is another enemy. Kill him and continue. Around the next corner is another enemy to be killed. Go through the room but watch your right side. Just around the wall of trees to your right is an enemy waiting in ambush. Kill him and enter the hallways of buildings. After going through the hallway you will see the machine gun in the room ahead. Pick it up. Note that the machine gun kills enemies in 2 shots. Do not hold down the fire button to mow down enemies except in an emergency, as ammo is scarce. Enter the next hallway. At the end of this hallway, you will see an enemy in the distance. Wait until you can see his "face" before firing 2 shots into him. Inside the room, you will find 3 packs of machine gun ammo (which add 10 bullets each), 2 pistol ammo packs (for an extra 12 bullets), and 2 health packs (for an extra 50 health, up to a maximum of 100). Be aware that another enemy will charge you from the distance near the health packs; wait until you see his face before killing him. Enter the next hallway. Around the second corner is another enemy. Kill him. Around the next hallway in the small room is another enemy. Kill him and continue forward, where there is another enemy immediately around the corner. Kill him and follow the left wall. Near the visible health pack in front of the hallway to the right, there is a wall hiding three enemies. Kill them (auto-firing the machine gun may be necessary here) and collect the health pack. Go through the hallway here. In the room at the end is the RPG Launcher. It kills all enemies on-screen and in your immediate vicinity, but takes you to the overworld. ### A quick note on the RPG Launcher and the overworld: In the next room is the RPG launcher. There is no extra ammo for it, and upon firing it you are taken to the overworld (up to 3 times; see section 4c for detailed information on the overworld). While picking up the RPG Launcher will extend the playing time of the game, I recommend it: The next few sections have so many enemies that you will use up most of your ammo if you avoid getting it. ### Enter the next hallway and go through it. Exit it, look into the room at the end, and kill all of the enemies (if you use the RPG Launcher, you will enter the overworld for the first time). Through the room and around the corner are more enemies; kill them (and enter the overworld for the second time if you used the RPG Launcher). Walk through the room and kill the last enemy/group of enemies that you seen (and enter the overworld for the final time if you used the RPG launcher). Keep going forward. At the end of a long hallway you will enter a big, wide open room with a few walls acting like columns. The music changes as you enter. At this point, you have entered the last room in the game and have "beaten" it (you will receive a different game over screen if and when you die). Your only goal now is to kill as many enemies as possible. Enemies will spawn in endlessly as will ammo. Your only goal now is to kill as many enemies as possible. When you die, you will see a counter of the number of enemies you have kill ("hail marys"). --- 6. TIPS --- - GO SLOWLY. There is no time limit in the game, and rushing around corners can and will lead to your character's demise. To be extra safe going around corners, hold the down button and a directional button to move along the walls at an angle to maximise distance between yourself and enemies. - If you are aiming to complete the game as quickly as possible, I have two tips. First, still be careful around corners. The enemies will drain your health very quickly and must be dealt with. Second, avoid the RPG launcher. The overworld sections it brings will slow you down dramatically. - Backtracking large distances is impossible; the game seals up entrances to past areas. - You can shoot through walls. Use this to your advantage, as enemies have a hard time getting around them. - Once you reach the final room, you are playing only for a high score. Go wild with ammo, and be careful as enemies randomly spawn in. Staying in a corner and dashing to ammo that spawns in is an effective strategy in this room. - Do not waste ammo before reaching the final room as it is very scarce. - To shoot an enemy, your aim does not need to be exact (you have a LOT of room for error). - Use the D-Pad to move. This game is a port of a PC game where movement was controlled through a keyboard, and its control scheme works much better through the D-Pad than the left analog stick. =============================================================================== 7.
