I'll keep this short and sweet as I don't write guides but I found there is not sufficient guides out there for this game and I've written this in 2019! This game is so hard and it doesn't help with the amount of unexplained secrets. Here is my video playthrough - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjQlwNlQAdU All I ask is to subscribe to my channel as I do a lot of hard NES games as well as others. You don't need to win all events. Just fencing and Taekwondo. For the others, you just need to beat the quailfying time, distance, or score. You can use the Zapper for the Shooting bonus game in between competition days. FENCING Walk up to the opponent. When you hear 2 clinks, hold B until you hear a different clang. Then press DOWN and A. Instantly hold B again in case you don't get the point and they counter. Then try again when you hear the clank. TRIPLE JUMP Hammer A as fast as possible. Press and hold B on each jump until it reaches 45 degrees. SWIMMING If you press DOWN and A when you start you can do butterfly stroke. This doesn't make any difference in speed. Tactics I have read tell you to time breathing or you go faster when under water. Ignore this advice. Just hammer A as fast as you can throughout and just press B intermittently with your other hand. Doesn't matter about speed or timing for the B button presses. The A presses need to be fast and consistent. If you don't have the speed you may need to use a Turbo controller. HIGH DIVE I couldn't make any sense of this event. The only thing that works for me is pressing all the buttons as fast as I can including the direction buttons. I always got one out of three to qualify this way. CLAY PIDGEON SHOOTING Never press UP or DOWN. Only move LEFT or RIGHT. Try to shoot the clay pidgeon as soon as possible with one shot. If you miss, save the last bullet and ready the cursor for when it drops back down. HAMMER THROW Rotate the D-pad Anti-clockwise as fast as possible. Press and hold A when the man starts the flash. Hold A until the next screen comes up and let go when the angle reached around 50 degrees (maybe more, I haven't properly tested) TAEKWONDO Just use jump kicks (UP & B) and roundhouse kick (DOWN & B). Sometimes a roundhouse kick can knock a lot of energy off and nearly win the fight. The jump kicks are good for not getting hit yourself. POLE VAULT Press A as fast as you can. When the blue tip of the pole is over the marking on the floor, press and hold B. Let go of when the character is horizontal over the bar. CANOEING Tap A to go forward, B to reverse. Speed is not important. Go through the gates in order. Ignore gate 4 as gate 3 is after it. Go back for gate 4 after you have got gate 3. Gates with 'R' symbol need you to go through backwards. Gates with diagonal symbol need to be entered from behind. Once you have activated it, you do not need to continue all the way through. You can reverse back out to move on quicker. ARCHERY For every 2 Metres of cross winds, adjust your Side Angle by one degree in the opposite direction to compensate. Press A rapidly to fill the power bar and B to shoot. Use the following angles and power as a guide. You may want to adjust the angle if you can't get the same power as I get in the video:- 30 meters - Use half power 50 metres - Angle up 2 degrees and use 3/4 power. 70 metres - Angle up 5 degrees and use as much power as you can. 90 Metres - Angle up 11 degrees and use as much power as you can. HURDLES Press A as fast as you can. B jumps over the hurdles. You don't need to press A when in the air. Use this time to rest. HORIZONTAL BAR Keep pressing B (not fast) until the end of the routine and it says FINISH. Hammer A until it says FORWARD SWING (instead of FINISH) and let go so it stays up long enough to press B to activate. Every time the gymnast goes back down press B again to do the same move. Repeat the move 20 times for a 9.90 rating. Press A rapidly and then press B to finish the routine. Press and hold UP as the gymnast lands for a good landing.
