"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~"""~""" Super Rugby FAQ NES 1989 Version: 1.0 Super Rugby is supposed to be a Rugby simulation, yet it does not play like the Rugby you know. In fact, most rules are totally different and will confuse you. To enjoy this a little, forget anything you know about today's league rules and just keep the basics. You will learn by playing, as 2 buttons and with very few features to actually play for, this game won't last too long in your memory. There is nothing "Super" about Super Rugby. MODES =============================================================================== As you start up the game you are given three choices: TRAINING: ````````` Play against one team of your choice in a single match. You can alter your statistics after each game and play again. The teams have different stats to give a different chance. LEAGUE: ``````` Compete against all the teams in a tournament. The first place at the end wins the league. VS MODE: ```````` Play against another human player, and the best way to figure out how to play the game rather than getting your butt whooped by the "training" mode. GAMEPLAY =============================================================================== Select between 5 or 10 minutes per half. Change your team name with the B button as you cycle through the letters. Use LEFT and RIGHT to change each letter as you please. Use the A button to cycle through the stats. You have a certain amount of points to distribute for each area: Running, Tackle, Stamina, Pass, Kick and Technique. Do so with the UP and DOWN keys. Press START to continue. Next you will see the opponent's stats. Cycle through the teams with the A button. Select the opponent with the START button to begin the game. As you start, run forward into the ball to kick off. Game Controls: START Pause the game, see score. When not in control of the ball: A Tackle B Change player When in control of the ball: A Pass B Change receiving player A+B Kick the ball forward Generally, you are to advance to the opponent's line and score a Try. This is equivalent to a touchdown if you are only familiar with American Football. To get there, you pass to your players and run forward, trying to get tackled. If you get tackled the ball is fumbled and another player nearby can pick it up. This can be one of yours but more likely one of the opponents. TF, is offside. You cannot pass to your player who is running in front of you, closer to the opponents side. In that case a scram is awarded. In a scram, both team builds a wall against each other. The team with the ball needs to advance far enough to get the ball out behind them to a team member. To control the movements of the scram, quickly bash the A and B buttons in succession. A Try is worth 4 points. After you score a Try, you get an extra Freekick. You must score between the posts and over the bar to receive 1 extra point. You do not actually control the kick itself and it all depends on your team's statistics. When the ball has gone out of play on the sides, a LO is awarded. The team who did not force the ball out will have one of their players throwing in, and each side has three members awaiting to receive. You can change the player with A and pass with B. Not that if your team's passing is low, you may not throw all the way to the farthest player. The winning team is the one with the most points at the end of the game. Extra running sounds great on paper, but you will not actually end up running that much faster on the field. A trade-off between Stamina is, that without Stamina you don't actually run at all. Kicking is good, but you will have to actually score first. So this shouldn't get that many points. Tackling is important, don't overlook it. So is Passing and I suppose Technique as well. Get closer to the center when making a try, it improves your positioning when you get the freekick. Don't run in a straight line. This only looks good on TV. An opponent will have an easy time tackling you if you are just in front of him. Wiggle from side to side, or a little more away from his vertical line, so he cannot predict his tackle so easily. Often they stop pursuit or jump into thin air, missing you completely. Kicking the ball forward is useful if you are in a tight situation. Losing the ball early is not good, as the opponent will have an easy time to score. Instead you want the ball at the other end of the pitch. Boot it down the line, and even if the opponents pick up the ball it's better than doing so at the position you were going to lose the ball anyway. Next you will want to try and tackle the ball right back of course. To be honest, this is all I can tell you. This game isn't like the Rugby you may know, and gameplay is quite limited. If you have more hints then I'll be sure to add them here. =============================================================================== This guide is available for and to anyone who wishes to use the information on their site or in their own guide.
