INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Mississippi Satsujin Jiken: Murder on the Mississippi' for the NES, released by Jaleco in 1986. It was only released in Japan for the NES and MSX, but is available in English on the C64 and AppleII as they were released in the United States in the same year. The ports are slightly different and you will have to adjust when using this walkthrough. I noticed the beginning was not the same already thus I am unware if this will be any help at all. The guide uses Shift-JIS to display Japanese characters in .txt form. If you cannot see them automatically and just see some garbled font, set your browser encoding or file viewer manually. This game is an adventure. To play you need to have extensive knowledge of the Japanese language. Thus this walkthrough is intended for players who are able to read and understand the text. I have tried to make the walkthrough easy enough for anyone to still play the game even if their Japanese is very limited although you will still miss out on the story. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== At the main menu, press START to begin a new game. There is an introduction and soon you find yourself in your cabin. From here to begin solving the case. There are only a few actions to choose from. Usually you only have the first two available, but if there is another person in the room you can talk to them. あるく Walk さがす Look はなす Talk しょうこひんを しらべる Investigate Evidence (At suitcase in Room 3) When you talk to a person, there are six options of questioning: あのひとについて おしえてほしい (Talk about person) このしなものについて おしえてほしい (Talk about item) ついてきて もらえないか (Come along) メモを みせる (Show Memo) こくはつする (Accuse) まえのメニューに もどる (Return to previous menu) There are 8 suspects, including the Victim who is dead of course. You can talk to the other seven about each of them to find out more information. 1.デイジー 2.テーラー 3.ネルソン 4.ヘンリー (Daisy) (Taylor) (Nelson) (Henry) 5.カーター 6.ヘレン 7.ウィリアム 8.ひがいしゃ (Carter) (Helen) (William) (Victim) You may want to try and memorize these names as they come up very often and you would have to look it up quite frequently. To get around the steamboat you have to know where to go. It's quite easy, but sometimes it can still be confusing. You go down a level at the small gap in the center of the boat, and you go back up via the stairs. Each level has two sides which you can go to. Usually you would just walk around the bow or stern, but there are also some rooms that go through. Here is a map: ________ | BRIDGE | | |________|________ _______________| v ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ | 1 | | 3 | | 5 | | 7 | | 9 | | 11| | |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| v ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ^ | 2 | | 4 | | 6 | | 8 | | 10| | 12| | |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| ^ | v ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ | 13| | 15| | 17| | 19| | 21| | 23| |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ^ | 14| | 16| | 18| | 20| | 22| | 24| | |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| |___| ^ | v _ ___ ___ |_ | 25| | 27| | |___| |___| This walkthrough skips a few story things. I've been stuck before but I do not know if this means there is no way to continue at all. You may still try and talk to people about more things in order to find out more background of the case. This is barebone walkthrough and I don't think it gets much shorter. It took me a while to get this walkthrough finished so I don't want to spend much more time on it, but if you can confirm there are some better ways to solve the case then I would like to know. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== Aboard the sternwheeler S. S. Delta Princess, New Orleans bound twelve hours out of St. Louis, Sir Chales Foxworth, well-known sleuth, along with his manservant Regis, travels, first class naturally, on a simple voyage of discovery down the vast waters of the Mississipi River. It is a balmy June day. A warm breeze snaps the flags on teh superstructures. The engine thumps reassuringly. All is well with the snug, though isolated world of the riverboat. Who would suspect anything so terrible as...murder...on such a lovely day? Little coule Sir Chales suspect, arriving at his cabin, that all too soon this talents for keen observation, clear-sighted reasoning and uncanny deduction, would be pressed on their limits by the terrible events aboard the riverboat this faithful day... Go to Room 1. Walk around the area in front of the dresser because there is a trap door. Look at the Bed when you get close. Take the Key. (A-Button) Go to Room 4. Jaleco for the game. lioncub4 for offering to scan pages of the Japanese guidebook. I ended up not using the few (less than useful) pages I received but I think I should nevertheless mention he was so kind to help out, scan some hints, and indirectly push me along so I could eventually finish this walkthrough. In total I must have had his file lying around for nearly a year. If you are interested in the guidebook, it's International Standard Book Number is ISBN4-575-15061-4, released on January 15 1987.
