INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Tsurupika Hagemaru: Mezase! Tsuruseko no Akashi' for the NES, released by Jaleco in 1991. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== There are two parts of this game. The adventure part and the action part. For the adventure you have a map view and need to travel from location to location to talk to people. The action stages are in-between distractions that last for about a minute to maybe five. To walk into the locations just use the D-Pad. Traveling between the two continents is done via the travel agent. Action Stages: `````````````` Left and Right to run. Hold it long enough for a speed-up (required for long jumps) A = Jump B = Summersault Kick Hold B = Head Bounce Simply jumping on an enemy does not damage them. You actually have to use the head bounce attack. This in turn is a risk for losing control of your character and quickly fall in the gaps/pitfalls. The bottom of the action stage screen has three parts. The left are your collected points. Coins dropped from defeated enemies are worth 5 gold at the beginning and 50s and 100s later in the game. The middle it just says "Tsurupika Hagemaru" in Japanese but for one stage there is a timer instead. The left life bar consists of 3 notes. If they are depleted you die. You lose coins but have the chance to continue. The game seems like a bit of a text adventure with the command box but most conversations are linear and only give you the "talk" command to continue. For the rest I have given the clear option to pick. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== Hagemaru's Hut: `````````````` Just go through all the conversations. It's super linear. Go north to the town. Yusura Town ``````````` The top option only introduces the shop. The second option will let you buy something but as you have no money you are stuck with the bottom option which starts the action stage. After this very short stage there is a short conversation before you have a slightly longer action stage. After another conversation you automatically leave town. Go to the pyramid. Pyramid: ```````` After a talk with this guy you have another action stage. This one has flowing sand. You can actually bounce off this and if you land on it with your feet just keep jumping to continue or get back out. Enemies drop coins worth 50 here and if you defeated them in the sand area (like the cacti) you can use the bounce technique to pick it up. Do not hit the snake at the body, and do not let the scorpion hit you on the head even if you are bouncing. This move does not make you invincible. You get to meet the hermit. Next go to the jungle at the bottom left. Jungle: ``````` Action stage following the chat with jungle girl. This time you have to reach the goal by 5 o’clock leaving you only 1 minute to get through. This means ignoring most enemies but I would suggest taking the extra seconds to kill the apes because they drop 100 gold coins. Buy (second option) the gold fish from him (top option). It is cheap. Go to the lake. Lake: ````` Use (third option) the goldfish (second option) you just bought. The fairy will ask what you to select the right fish and you should have the bottom option. This will not give you a golden (metal) gold fish yet. Come back here and use the new item you have, then answer with what you have at it should now turn into the golden gold fish. As I am trying to avoid using Japanese in this guide you should maybe look up the word gold but you can also compare your inventory to give the correct answer. Once you have the golden one return to Hagemaru's hut. Hagemaru's Hut: `````````````` Switch person twice (4th option) and offer (3rd option) the golden gold fish (bottom item). You will receive a dive suit in return. Go east directly to the travel agent called JTB. JTB: ```` Give (2nd option) her the dive suit (bottom item). Time for another untimed underwater level. You will notice this is slower pace because there is no running possible. Jumping gaps also requires more accuracy. The level is short and introduces you to the new enemies. Take a step right to a crappy version of Hawaii. Hawaii: ``````` You will soon be thrown into another land level. This one is actually easier than the jungle. You can defeat all enemies but the sharks (kind of could have guessed that) and the birds at the very top pooing the eggs down are also better left alone. Boss: Hamehame This harmless boss can only hurt you in two ways. You run into him or he runs into you (I count this as the same) or the spear. The spear is thrown with great preparation and it will actually go out of the screen. The only way this would harm you if, again, you actually jump into him from the side he is thrown to. To avoid the former simple keep to the side where there is space. To exchange sides just do a bounce attack on him and you will bounce off his shield. To harm him you wait for the spear to be thrown and quickly jump on him a couple of times (safe). You should not be standing too far away from him else you miss the opportunity. He has 10 hit points before making you the new chieftain (you wish!). Pyramid: ```````` Talk to the hermit and a new option should appear on the 2nd menu item (4 items in total now). You want the last one. You will have to exit the menus manually (which is weird because usually it kicks you back to the main screen when you finished something in the area). JTB: ```` Talk to the lady and pick the top option to travel to America. America: ```````` Go north to NYC. New York: ````````` Talking to the nice lady will start what appears to be New York in the 80s - ninjas, flying helicopters, evil clowns and RC cars. This first area is really short but I highly suggest you take it slow as usual. Afterwards talk to her again and pick the bottom option. You receive a letter and start the second part of the NY stage. Kingpin arrives. Use the 2nd option to hand him a letter (last item in the list). Return to JTB, talk to the lady and pick the top option to return to the left side (Japan??). Pyramid: ```````` Talk to the hermit for a new stage. The tricky here are the long jumps with a snake waiting for you at the other end. It is not the jump or the snake really bothering you here but the scorpion that will come crawling from the right and almost immediately jump down to your level. It is very tricky to avoid this. The rest is not that bad for what is now mid-game skill required. You will meet Pez. Use the 2nd option to take the humour (?!) - top option and then the fur (bottom option). Funny huh. Hagemaru's Hut: ``````````````` Switch character twice (4th option) and then select the 4th item to trade the fur for winter clothes. JTB: ```` Talk to her and select the top option for America. Nothing new here. Re-enter on the American side though and then use (2nd option) the diving suit or winter clothes (3rd or 4th option) to reach an underwater level. It is the same or very similar level to before. Step left. Antarctica: ``````````` Close the conversation for the stage to start. Watch out for the submarines to shoot out missles. They will leave the screen almost harmless but come back to down with a salvo that is hard to avoid. Definitely wait for them to hit on a place with some space to move around. The submarines can actually be killed but as you tend to die in the water there is not much point to attempting it. The snowmen will first throws its head at you and then turn into some kind of spider robot that will walk into you. Either way all of these take some getting used and overall this is hardest level you have played so far, and by far tougher than what you had to do so far. It is also seemingly longer. Since this is actually already the penultimate level you can forgive its toughness. Boss: Polar Bear Get ready for a brutal and vicious...quiz?! There are 3 questions and you have to answer all correctly. There are always the same questions and the same order. The answers are 2, 1, 3. You win the fight and thus gain some shaved ice. New York: ````````` Give (2nd option) the kingpin the saved ice (last item). This will yield a shuttle ticket for the Lunar Base. Go to the JTB, talk to the lady and confirm you are traveling back to Japan, then go north to the garbage dump. Garbage Dump: ````````````` I can imagine an action stage here but alas there is none. In fact you only have to come here once for talking to this guy, or more preciously you give (2nd option) him the fish figure (2nd item). He digs it so much that he hands over aluminum (aluminium) foil. Hagemaru's Hut: ``````````````` Switch character twice (4th option) and then give (2nd option) him the diving suit (2nd option) as well as the aluminum foil (4th item) and it has to be in this order. You will leave automatically now that you have a kickass space suit. Enter JTB and confirm with her that you are going to America. Go directly east to the shop. US Shop: ```````` If you came here earlier you will have found a nice lady selling goodies. Now somehow (trigger by you having a space suit) you meet a grumpy guy and he only gives you one item to buy: oxygen tanks. Confirm you want it and confirm again that you want it for 2,000 to start... Boss: Clerk Weird huh. He did not look so tough from the other angle. Okay lucky or us he really is a wussy, push-over and . While the limelight is still on he will smack his forceps continuously which give you the chance to just run up and do a drop bounce on his head. After 3 hits he is already history and the coins he drops are not exactly worth much either. Unbelievable! Pay the 2,000 for real this time and you will leave. Go to the shuttle station aka NASA. NASA: ````` A quick chat with Mr. Nasa and you are off to the moon. Moon: ````` The action stage, and the last one in the game, will start up in two parts. The first one is easier than the previous stage. You have a few more enemies shooting projectiles and even aimed at you but this pales compared to the submarine attacks earlier. Lunar Base: ``````````` After talking to the girl you are thrown into the last action part of the game. This is a little trickier than before but I still do not think as tough as the Antarctica. A few jumps need a little less power and some precious timing but it is very much manageable. Boss: Tri Vader Impossible to beat. Yes, do not bother trying. Although even if you try you would only last a few seconds longer. He will zap you to death quickly. It is part of the story so just wait to die and talk to the girl in the scene. She will hand over 100,000 gold and then you try again. This time you cannot lose... Hagemaru's Hut: ``````````````` Get access to the Colocolo Editorial office. Make your way there now (southern building you have probably seen before but never went there). Colocolo Editorial: ``````````````````` The rest of the game is just talking but there is a fair bit of it. =============================================================================== YY.)
