What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (4/30/10): The first version. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Itadaki Street is a fun Monopoly-type game for the Famicom. It is very much similar to the popular board game, where you buy properties on the board and other players get penalized for landing on the places you own. However, there are many interesting features, such as the ability to buy shares of stock, which can considerably bolster your total worth. There are only five stages, or Streets, to play in this game, and once someone reaches the goal amount of money for that stage, the game ends. I really had a lot of fun playing this, and I think you will too, so check it out! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Start: Start the game Control Pad: Move cursor A: Make selection on menu screens B: Cancel selection, open menu screen (during your turn) ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ======== Pre-Game ======== When you start the game, you will be able to enter your name, choose if you are a boy or girl, then select the text speed (fast, normal, slow). You can then select the street you wish to play on, and how many human players will take part. If you quit the game and returned to the title screen, you will be given the option to restart where you left off previously. The turn order will be randomly chosen, and then the game will commence. There are five streets you can play on; the first one only allows for three players, and the others allow for four players. You must beat one street to unlock the next one. Every player space will be filled by the computer if a human player is not present. ======== Gameplay ======== General Information ------------------- Each player starts their turn with a menu screen on the left. Unless you want to tweak the game settings, view data, or make a trade, simply roll the dice to move 1-6 spaces. You can then move space by space, stopping at any time by pressing A or B to bring up the Data menu. On the bottom of the screen, there is a box showing each player along with two numeric values. The left value is the amount of money each player currently has, and the right value is the total worth of their assets (properties + shares + money). Owning shares is very important since their value will increase (a) if more players own them, and (b) if the properties on that given block are being developed or otherwise bringing in a lot of money. By owning shares, you also get a cut of the rent fee charged to a player if they land on someone else's property. It is the single easiest way to make a lot of money and increase your worth quickly. Unfortunately, you can stand to lose a lot of money if the value of the properties on the block goes down, and even moreso if the share prices drop (by Chance Card or someone else selling their own shares). Land on Unowned Property ------------------------ When you land on a property that is not owned by anyone, you will be given two options: Buy (かう) or Not Buy (かわない). There are two values displayed on each property's tile. The top value is the Rent (if someone lands on a property owned by someone else, they pay that amount to that player). The bottom value is the Price (how much you will pay to own the property). If you choose to buy it, the property tile will change to your player's color. Land on Your Property --------------------- When you land on a property that you own, you will be given the option to inject some added capital into any property you own on the map. You will go to a different screen where the property spaces have meters that show how far you can develop (add capital to) that property. You can choose a property, then a menu will appear. You can Add Capital (ぞうしする), Do Nothing (ぞうししない), or View Data (データをみる). If you choose to add capital, you will be able to spend up to a certain amount to develop that property. You can only develop one property per turn, so choose wisely! Also, some properties can only be developed to a certain point, whereas others can be injected with a LOT more capital, making things a lot more profitable for you in the long run! Land on Another Person's Property --------------------------------- When you land on a property that someone else owns, you will have to pay the designated amount of rent to that player. If anyone owns shares of the block in which this property is located, they will get a cut of the rent payment as well. You will also have the option of purchasing that property from the player for 5x its current value. The options you have available are to Buy (かう) or Not Buy (かわない). Buying/Selling Shares --------------------- The most important aspect of this game is the ability to buy and sell shares. You buy shares of blocks (groupings of four properties close together) of the street you are currently playing. The price per share starts off low for each block, but as properties are bought and developed, the share prices will rise and fall accordingly. You don't have to actually own the properties on the given block to own shares for it. The share price will go up as well if more players buy more of them for that block. Be warned that a small fee is charged when you buy shares. In order to buy shares, you must pass the Bank space and a menu will come up giving you that option. Another screen will come up, listing each block's name on the left side, and each column representing the different players for this game. You can move to the row of your choice (you will see a small map below showing which properties are part of that block), then press A to select a number of shares to buy. You can buy a maximum of 99 shares at one time. When developing your property, it may be beneficial to develop the ones on blocks you own shares for, so that the share price will increase as well as that property's rent/overall value. If you have the option to develop on your property, and you own shares for it, do so for the maximum amount. That way, the share price will rise considerably and if you have to sell shares, you won't lose money, plus you'll have shares at the new higher price! Running Out of Money -------------------- If your current money dips into the negative range, you will have to get back into positive territory by the end of your turn. If that happens, a menu will come up with two options: sell your shares of a block (かぶをうる), or sell your properties (おみせをうる). It is highly recommended that you sell shares before you sell properties, since you won't get the total value back if you sell land. If you are still in the negatives after selling off your shares and property, you are bankrupt and out of the game. Auctions -------- If a player is forced to sell one of their properties back to the Bank in order to raise money, that property will be put up for auction. Each player will be shown on a track at the top of the screen, and you can press A to place a bid on the property, in increments of 10G. The three signs placed on each player's track represents the point where they run out of money, run out of shares, or run out of property in order to pay for their purchase here. If you bid, your player will move along its track a set amount. After six seconds of no bids, the auction will end and the highest bidder will win. ============== Special Spaces ============== Bank and Chance Spaces ---------------------- The starting point of each street is at the Bank space. It is generally set in a neutral area in the middle of the map. If you land at the Bank space, you will have the option to purchase shares if you so desire. On Street 5, there will also be Sub-Banks, where you can buy shares just like at the main Bank space. The ? spaces scattered around the board are called Chance spaces. Each of these spaces also has a suit icon attached to it (heart, diamond, club, or spade). If you pass that space, you will receive that suit's icon. If you land on the Chance space, you will draw a Chance Card (see that section later in the guide). When you have collected all four suits by travelling along the map, the next time you pass the Bank space, you will collect a salary, also known as leveling up (this is proportionate to your total worth). You can also collect a wild card (from certain Chance Cards) which can substitute a suit if you only have three and pass the Bank. Rent-Free Day ------------- On each street map, there is a special space (休). If you land here, it means that all of your properties will be rent-free for that turn. Meaning, until your next turn, if another player lands on your properties, you do NOT get to collect rent! This can be particularly tough if you are low on money and have some high-valued spaces that other players may land on soon. Casino Spaces ------------- On the larger street maps, there are Casino spaces (with a roulette icon on them). If you land here, all of the other players with sufficient funds will be forced to place a bet on the roulette table (you get to choose where you place your bet at least). The roulette wheel is spun, and if you win, you will receive your winnings, otherwise you just lost the money you were forced to bet. The twist is that if none of the other betting players win, you will win (the player who landed on the space initially). The payouts are: Bet a Color: 2x Bet Bet Odds/Evens: 2x Bet Bet Thirds (1-4, 5-8, 9-12): 3x Bet Bet Number: 6x Bet The required bet amount changes as the game progresses, and is proportionate to how much money the player who landed on it has. Airplane Spaces --------------- On Street 3, there are spaces with an airplane on them. This facilitates travel from the main continent to the western islands (resembling the US mainland and Hawaii). When you land on this space, you will fly to or from the islands, landing on a random Chance space at each end. Star Spaces ----------- On Street 4, you will see spaces with a star icon on them. These are known as lucky spaces, and when you land there, you will earn a small percentage of all rent collected by other players for one round of play. ======== End Game ======== Once a player reaches the goal amount and passes the Bank space, the game is over. You will go to a screen where each player's assets are added up by category (Money - おかね, Shares of Stock - かぶ, Property Value - しさん, and Total Value - ごうけい). You will then go to a second screen where a more detailed breakdown occurs, by Gift (いただき) or Bank Transfer (ふりこみ): Frequency (かいすう) Total Amount (そうがく) Average Value (へいきん) Greatest Value (さいだい) Profit From Stocks (かぶ もうけ) The player with the highest overall value wins the game. You must come out in first place in order to win and unlock the next street to play on. ================= Menu Translations ================= NOTE: This is the menu box that comes up at the start of a player's turn. Select any space and you will draw a numbered card, the effects of which are listed below. You can only pick one card each time you land on the space, and you can't put back a card either. Once you select a card, it will stay face up on the board with your player's color. If the same player turns over four or more cards in the same row, they will receive an added monetary bonus in addition to the card's effects (for four straight, you get an extra 20G, five straight gets 40G, and so on).
