What is Xena - The Talisman of Fate? AAA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Xena - The Talisman of Fate is an arena Beat 'em Up based on the great (If my personal opinion counts, that is. ;) ) Fantasy TV show Xena. Choose one of the famous characters from the series or the new character Despair and beat the crap out of one or two enemies in a three-dimensional arena, where the third dimension is really fully used, unlike e.g. Mortal Kombat 4. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Controls BBB ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Every character shares the same standard moves: --------------- Standard Moves: --------------- Move...........: Digital Pad / Analog Stick High block.....: Move away from the enemy. Target an enemy: A Button. This actually is completely useless when fighting only one enemy, but it comes in handy in battles against more enemies, when you want to focus on one of them. Single Player CCC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This section is meant to give you advice on how to beat the main story mode, both on medium and hard difficulty. The easy difficulty setting shouldn't cause problems to anybody, but if you really need help on that, stick with the medium difficulty hints. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Medium difficulty setting: +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= On this setting you will face only one enemy per battle, just like on easy. Unlike on easy, though, your opponents are likely to parry your attack from time to time and they can deal quite some damage. The first and most important thing to keep in mind is to crouch all the time. Crouching has many advantages over standing and only one disadvantage: + Most distance attacks will miss you. + Many normal attacks also miss you. + Most other attacks can be blocked easily. + You jump higher, allowing for swift air attacks and for quick retreats. + Many crouching attacks are more effective than normal attacks. - You would have to get up every time you want to use a special attack, a throw or a combo. Since special attacks usually are too slow and too easily to block, the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantage. When the timer goes down to 0 the fighter with more health left wins the battle, which can be a great thing to aim for if your enemy is good at blocking. The second most important thing is that you don't have to fight elegantly or something like that, but basically just effective, so don't try too hard using various attacks, big combos or such. Instead, get a feel for the enemies' AI and abuse it. If you are having a hard time, hurt the foe a few times and retreat. Your adversary often wastes precious time by using distance attacks if you are standing (or better, crouching) somewhat far away from him, so make friends with the timer. Hurt the enemy, jump away and stay away by walking backwards. If you're being trapped in a corner, either use a jumping attack to get out or simply hop to a side a few times to swiftly get away. As I already said, don't rely on fighter's honour or such but fight as cheap as you need to. Ignore combos, special attacks; keep crouching and make excessive use of the four crouching attacks, especially of the uppercut and the strong kick. Also use the low kick when the enemy lies on the ground for a cheap hit. Other than that, jump high up from time to time and use a kick in midair, which is especially helpful when an opponent keeps blocking all other attacks over the course of some seconds. Use the high jump when being knocked down. It is way safer than any other way and it allows for a good counter-attack in midair. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Hard difficulty setting: +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Woohoo, two enemies at the same time. All hints for medium difficulty also apply to hard difficulty, but there are some additional things to consider. In almost every battle one of your opponents mainly stays in the background, using distance attacks, while the other one goes into close quarter. Unless the cowardly foe has an attack that can hit you even while crouching (e.g. Caesar and Despair), you only have to keep crouching and to stay away from him. As long as you do, he rarely comes after you. The other enemy tries to hit you directly, either by jumping in on you or by simply walking towards you. Target him with the A button and wait for him to come close before attacking him. Neglect the A button. Seriously, targeting a certain enemy usually just gets your of your flow and it costs precious time. Instead try to position yourself so you can hit whoever you want to hit even if you are actually aiming at the other enemy. Only use the Target button if you want to fully concentrate on the close fighter or if you quickly want to deliver some damage to the distance fighter before retreating from him again. There is no true friendly fire. Team members can hit each other and even knock down one another, but one can't hurt your team member. Still, if you want to keep your distance to the distance fighter, position yourself in such a way that the far-off adversary hurls his objects at his buddy. Immediately jump away whenever you are caught right in between the opponents. As you do, deal out a midair kick against the distance fighter. All characters can be separated into two groups: The ground fighters and the air fighters. Some characters like Xena can stay on the ground and still win a fight. Others, like Velasca, though have to use lost of midair attacks. Read on for general strategies on how to beat the hard difficulty with both categories. Ground Fighters: If you want to defeat both enemies, first take down the close fighter and then afterwards deal with the other one. But if you feel like you cannot eliminate both of them and just want to win due to a timeout, wait for the close fighter to come in, hit him hard a few times and when he lies on the ground, jump in on the distant fighter, kick him in midair and deliver some uppercuts before either retreating for the rest of the fight or before returning to beating up the first foe. Especially the distance fighter is able to block and parry lots of attacks, which is why you should either only hurt him a bit or really attack him after having taken down his companion. Air Fighters: Instantly get close to the distance fighter to make him stop using his projectile attacks and such. Now keep on jumping and either kicking or punching your adversaries repeatedly. Alternatively you might also bait the close fighter far away from the distance fighter and concentrate on the close fighter first, while carefully watching out not to jump right into the distance attacks. Don't even think about doing this when fighting against Xena, as her Chakram makes it way too hard. So you've decided to win by letting the timer run down? The best way to do this, once you have hurt both enemies, is to jump away until the distance fighter starts hurling objects again. Try to have him just between you and the other adversary, so the close fighter walks against his buddy, desperately trying to get past. Fighting Despair on hard is a lot harder than any other battle. At the beginning, stay very far away from him and dispose of his team-mate as quickly as possible. Don't worry about arrows as Despair doesn't have anything like that. Instead his two distance attacks can hit you no matter if you are crouching or not, which allows for you to jump as much as you want to while fighting the close enemy. When you see Despair preparing for a distance attack, be on your guard. He either tosses a big rock that can be easily dodged with a single leap or he sets free a homing line of fire on the ground. The latter one cannot hit you if you are far enough from him, but if you aren't, you have to jump up and into the direction of Despair to avoid it. Once you are done with Despair's buddy, swiftly close in on the main enemy and repeatedly use uppercuts. Don't ever hesitate, even if an uppercut is blocked or parried. Set Despair under constant pressure or else you will have a really hard time dealing with him. You are probably already running quite low on health when turning to Despair, so don't rely on the timer; you have to wipe out both bad guys. This goes for strong characters. Weaker ones on the other hand have to attack Despair from the very beginning, while also hitting his companion from time to time. Otherwise you will waste way too much time when dealing with the single enemy first. As a weaker character, jump in on Despair and deal out midair kicks. Don't ever stay in one place for over a second or else you are going to be trapped between both opponents. If you see that the humanoid enemy can't get behind you quickly, though, you might and should use a short ground combo against Despair. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=- Titan difficulty setting: +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=- First of all: Only attempt this if you can beat hard with relative ease. Titan difficulty is not just friggin' hard; it's infuriatingly frustrating and unfair. On Titan you do not face two enemies, but three. Like on Hard, all of them have a certain strategy to them, until you defeat one of them: One enemy will stay in the background, always using distance attacks. He won't even take a break in between his attacks, so especially Xena and characters with fast projectiles like Gabrielle and Callisto mean lots of trouble. If you get close to him, he sometimes uses some melee attacks, but most of the time he will retreat with a jump and continue firing at you. The second enemy instantly moves in on you and stays near you, wherever you go. The third enemy sometimes uses projectiles and sometimes attacks you directly, depending on how far away you are. In earlier battles you can try to focus on the second enemy (he always starts in the lower left corner) and kill him first with crouching attacks, before focusing on the first enemy (he starts in the lower right corner). In later battles, though, you should only try to hurt the second enemy a bit, before quickly jumping over to the extreme distance fighter. Use a jumping attack and combine it with a crouching attack immediately after landing. Then jump again and repeat the procedure. If any other enemy comes close to you, send him flying with an airborne attack. Once you have defeated either enemy, the others change their behaviour to being both distance and close fighters, yet luckily none will ever use his distance attacks as extremely as the first enemy did. Concentrate on either enemy and continue jumping and combining it with a single crouching attack. When fighting against Despair, instantly concentrate on the main bad guy. The extreme distance fighter might be a pest, but allowing Despair to use any distance attacks himself, too, would be really bad. Kill him first and then go on as in any other battle on Titan difficulty. Even on Titan difficulty, playing as Despair guarantees you some easy, guilty fun: Focus on the lower left enemy and keep using the C Right attack while crouching. Then repeat on the remaining two enemies and you should be able to win all battles by KO within half a minute and even get some perfects. As Despair against Despair, though, you better first dispose of the demon. By the way: So far I have only attempted Titan with Xena and I did beat it, although I already was about to give up in a battle against Gabrielle, Ephiny and Callisto. Update: Now I've also tried to beat it as Despair and it was even way easier than I thought. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. The Characters DDD ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please note that all directions given are based on you standing on the left and the enemy standing to the right. If this is not given, just change the directions accordingly. Also note that a , means that two buttons have to be pressed after one another, while a + means that they have to be pressed at the same time. Every character has some sort of attack that can cross a big distance like a chakram throw and such. Furthermore some fighters have a big combo that ends in the enemy being dizzied for a short period of time, allowing for the final (hard) blow of the combo, or some other blow you might want to use instead, although I'd say you better just end the combo as it is thought to end. A (D) in this guide indicates that a combo dizzies the enemy. To avoid most distance attacks, just crouch. While some fighters perform different attacks when pressing a certain button (e.g. some characters do an uppercut when crouching and pressing C Up, while others do something different) at least you can be sure that every character will do an attack of some sort when just pressing one of the C-buttons either on its own or in combination with the Z button. Every character, though, also has numerous other attacks that can be performed by pressing a direction and a C button at the same time. These will be listed as character-specific moves. Some single attacks can hit the enemy more than once, e.g. Ephiny's jump onto the foot or Xena's fire breath, but I don't count things like these as a combo. As a last note: A (U) indicates that an attack is unblockable...or at least as far as I know. If I am wrong on anything, please let me know. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-4.1 Xena-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD1 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Ok, I guess since you are playing this game, you know who Xena is. Xena is the famous warrior princess starring in the TV show of the same name. Probably her most recognizable characteristics are her war cry (the yiyiyiyiyi-thing), her neck blow that stops the blood circulation, her fancy leather suit and the fact that she cannot fly, other than her actor, Lucy Lawless (at least if you believe the Simpsons ;) ). +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Special Attacks: +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= (U) Fire Breath......: Left, Right + C Up. Mainly use that and combine it with the strong crouching kick. The uppercut can also be used to juggle enemies that are close to a wall. Timing it correctly, you might even hit the opponent four times or more before he lands on the ground. Her special attacks are too slow to pull off on hard difficulty, but when fighting against her, watch out for the chakram as it bounces off the walls a few times before disappearing, which makes jumping around even more dangerous than against other enemies on hard, so you might want to stay rather close to her and attack both opponents equally. The warrior princess is about average both in speed and power, which makes her well-suited for just about every fight. Luckily she is powerful enough to deal with Despair's companion first on hard difficulty before she has to turn to the main boss. Turn to the single player hints section to see how to beat Despair with Xena. +=+=+=+- Endings: +=+=+=+- Gabrielle writes down Xena's heroic adventure, saying nobody would believe them anyhow, so Xena reminds her of some other great moments of the TV show. Come on. I mean, if there is one character in this game anybody should know about, it's him. He might not be a big character in the TV show, but Caesar is the title of Roman Emperors in general and the people behind Xena probably had the most famous Caesar, Julius, in mind when creating this character. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Special Attacks: +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= (U) Fire Arrows: Left , Right + C Left. Caesar is slow....very slow. Actually he is so slow- nah, I won't make any bad jokes here now. Seriously, Caesar is extremely slow on the ground, but his jump attacks are powerful and have a great reach, definitely compensating his weakness on the ground. Keep jumping in on the enemies repeatedly, mostly using the sword in the air. If any enemy keeps blocking your attacks, use some kicks for a change. Also use kicks against enemies that are strong in the air, as the sword takes too long to hit them. If you land close to an opponent, with the other one not being near you, use some C Down and C Right kicks before jumping again. Against Despair, also use the same strategy, but make sure to hit both enemies about the same, because you don't want to end up with one of 'em dead and the other one still healthy, as he suddenly has a vastly blocking ability. As an enemy, I love Caesar. He doesn't have any normal distance attack that emits from him, moving to your direction, but only those that come straight down at your position. This means that you can keep jumping around or even stand as long as you wish to. If you keep jumping around wildly you don't even have to react when Caesar starts one of his special attacks. Furthermore his rocks tend to hit his companion, knocking him down for a while. Caesar as a close fighter also is rather nice to face, as he is slow and as the AI can't get any profit out of his jumping attacks. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Caesar plans to conquer the whole world in the name of Rome, filling everyone's heart with fear for him. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.3 Gabrielle=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=DD3 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Ah, the side-kick. Add in her stick that can wildly swing around and you get a character that is perfect to go in for a quick attack even against two enemies at the same time. Furthermore Gabrielle's jump kick is extremely likely to hit, so you should hop at an enemy, attack him fiercely and retreat. Gabrielle usually isn't meant to KO both enemies on hard difficulty. Just hurt your opponents and back off from them. When the close-quarter enemy approaches, hit him in midair and change direction, but only unless the distance-fighter is Xena or Ephiny. If you don't want to jump or if you battle Xena, use the uppercut to keep a distance. Her special attacks actually aren't that bad. The meditation thing can only be used effectively for maybe one fight or so, before your enemies realize how to gain profit from it themselves. The stick throw, though, is nice to use whenever you are relatively far away from your enemies, especially since it is a pretty fast distance attack. When fighting Despair, instantly jump in on him and pester him with numerous jump-kicks into his back. When he is amidst an attack animation and when his companion isn't nearby, you can even go for some stick blows in his back. Finish off Despair before going for the other adversary. As an enemy, Gabrielle isn't too much of a problem as long as you either stay rather close to her or far away. Otherwise her meditation attack is hard to avoid. Also use lots of jump attacks against her, as she also does. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Gabrielle is asked by the townspeople whether she really beat all those enemies and she replies that she's probably gifted and that she's more than just Xena's sidekick. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.4 Ephiny=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD4 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Ephiny is an Amazon queen (thx to Gabrielle who refrained from the throne). Hence on hard you should always go for the jump attacks. Usually the jump kick is the best choice. Jump in on a single enemy or on both, unless they stand next to each other (if one is in the other one's back, it is pretty safe to jump in) and either perform an additional crouching hard kick or quickly retreat if you feel like you could be attacked shortly after your landing. The distance enemy as I like to call it often gets to block your jumping kicks after a while, so if he does, jump near him, without actually attacking him. Eventually this will make him jump as well, leaving him open for a midair blow. Generally it is best to just hurt the distance enemy and then concentrate on his companion, as Ephiny's jump kicks rarely are strong enough to finish off both enemies. Against Xena you have to stay very close to her or else the Chakram renders the battle extremely hard, given the weak crouching attacks Ephiny has at her disposal. Against Despair, somehow the jump kick is close to crap whereas the jump weapon blow makes this one of the easiest duels against the boss. First retreat a few steps and hit Despair's companion so he falls to the ground. Now move in on Despair, jump over him and repeatedly hit him in midair, while watching out not to get in too close as your attacks won't make the demon fall over. This is quite nice, actually, as it allows for numerous hits in a short amount of time. I told you to jump over Despair prior to attacking him, because you will want to have the second enemy be near Despair. This way you can continuously jump up and hit both bad guys one after another. Either defeat both completely or just hurt them badly and retreat. As an enemy Ephiny isn't much of a threat. In fact, she even is one of my favorite enemies on hard, as her crossbow is very likely to hit her ally as long as you keep crouching +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Ephiny says she's sorry that she can't accept to become the new Amazon queen as she feels like they (Who is they? Does she always refer to herself as we?) have to do greater things. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-4.5 Ares=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=DD5 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Ares. Well, he basically has to as the god of war. He is very strong, not too slow and he has some great attacks at his disposal. Not many attacks in total, but at least those he does have, allow for a quick conquering of the hard quest mode. So, you can come in close to the first few enemies and use the headbutt, the C Right, C Down, C Right combo, the Up, Up, Up combo and other attacks just as you like. In the later battles, though, you better move on to a safer strategy. Right at the beginning of a battle, jump in on the distance fighter and keep pestering him with sword blows during high jumps. This attack has a great reach and it also allows for holding off the other enemy who can be damaged easily, as well. As Ares you shouldn't stay far away from the distance fighter while crouching, since your crouching attacks lack reach and speed. Unless you might get trapped between two enemies you can and should sometimes stay on the ground near the distance fighter and use the Right, Down, Right combo. Sometimes it is blocked completely, but most of the time at least one of the three blows hits, often knocking down the enemy. It also sometimes hits both opponents. Against Despair you should behave similar as I depicted in Ephiny's section of the guide, but with a small, yet great twist: Don't attack the minor enemy first to have him out of the way, but instantly go for Despair. Your reach should enable you to hit him before he performs one of his distance attacks. Fighting against Ares is nothing special whatsoever. Just watch out for the lightning. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ All those fights and not a scratch...Ah, I'm just getting too good for this job. Luckily, her jump kick is fast, has solid reach and sometimes hits twice. Keep crouching and jump in on your opponents. When battling a single enemy, use the C Up crouch attack whenever your adversary lies on the ground to hit him once or twice without getting yourself into any danger. If the enemy lies near a wall you can even do this as long as you need to, to finish him off. Against Despair, stick to the jump kicks, but watch out for one important thing: After Despair has been knocked out, his companion becomes extremely hard to hit by normal means. So try to hurt the latter one as much as possible before finishing off Despair. Then quickly retreat from the remaining enemy and wait for him to use her primary distance attack on you. Right after it has passed you by, throw a lightning bolt at Xena's sidekick. As an enemy, Velasca has nothing special to keep in mind. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Velasca boasts with self-confidence, saying she'd be the empress of the gods. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-4.7 Callisto-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD7 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ She is pretty much a psycho, thanks to Xena. Keep pestering the distance fighter with jump kicks (very strong, can hit twice in one attack and have a greater reach than the jumping slash) and knock down both enemies repeatedly. Against a single enemy or if one of your opponents is out of reach you can also do some C Down and some C Up attacks while crouching. Battle Despair just like you did as Velasca. As an enemy behaves pretty normal, but you better watch out for her fire balls which appear rather surprisingly and generally for her strong attacks. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Ahahahah! (Yep, 9 buttons, but 10 hits!) +=+=+= Taunt: +=+=+= He overly dramatically stretches out his hand before pretending to break someone's spine on his leg (I wonder how he makes that sound). +=+=+= Throw: +=+=+= Joxer grabs his enemy by the shoulders, gives him a headnut and gets diizy himself. +=+=+= Hints: +=+=+= Joxer is much better of a fighter than one might expect. He has good speed, good strength, a fantastic combo, some good ground and aerial attacks and some of his attacks perfectly go together. He can easily be played either as an air character and as a crouching character. Just decide which way you want to do it. As an air character: Keep on jumping (high jumps as always) and use the sword in midair. Also remember to keep the distance fighter under constant pressure so he won't stick to projectile attacks and the likes. If one of your enemies is rather far away you should use a jump kick on the other one as it can be combined with a crouching strong kick right afterwards with a very high chance to hit. Also sometimes use the Down, Left, Left Combo. It might be blocked most of the time, but often only one of the two enemies blocks it and from time to time at least the last strike (which is the strongest) isn't blocked. This combo knocks down your opponents and it delivers a world of pain. As a ground character: Stay far away from the distance fighter and keep on using C Down, C Up and especially C Right while crouching to slowly defeat the close fighter. When he lies on the ground, target his buddy and throw a low dagger at him. But beware that you can be hit by projectiles while doing so. As soon as you only a single enemy, there are two possibilities again: Either retreat and keep tossing low daggers or get close and employ the 10-hit combo. The latter one is often blocked (except for the dagger throw near the end of the combo), but it safely makes the timer run down and at least it allows for a bit of damage, so I recommend the combo when you already are about to win. Against Despair, lure away his companion and keep on attacking said companion with jump slashes. When he lies on the ground, throw some daggers at Despair. Alternatively you can jump in on Despair, slash him in midair and use the jump kick-crouching strong kick combination when Despair's ally is out of reach or right behind him. As an enemy, Joxer can be quite a pest, because of his long combos he seems to enjoy using all the time. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Joxer sings his song "Joxer, the Mighty" to some ladies in a tavern. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.9 Lao Ma=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD9 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Lao Ma only appeared in two episodes. (The green mist at the end hits multiple times) +=+=+= Taunt: +=+=+= Lao Ma turns away, using her fan to get some fresh air...although she doesn't open it. +=+=+= Throw: +=+=+= She uses some sort of magic to lift up her enemy, gives him a 360 and tosses her pretty far away. +=+=+= Hints: +=+=+= Two terms: Crouch and C Right. The backwards somersault Lao Ma does when pressing these buttons is incredibly useful. It is fast, it delivers nice damage, it rarely leaves you open for a counter and it can hurt enemies sneaking up from behind. Hence, first of all try to use this attack over and over again. At some point either enemy will finally get to hurt you, which requires you to think over your strategy. In this case, jump high up and use the fan in midair over and over again. Against single enemies you can also employ the 10-hit combo. Usually at least some of the blows hit your target and at least the needle throw and the mist do. Just watch out not to use the combo against an enemy that stands with the back to the wall or else he simply jumps off said wall and lands right in your back. Despair can be very easily beaten by focusing him and using the backward somersault repeatedly. Once more, this character doesn't offer any special challenge when fighting against her. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Lao Ma is happy to have passed this final test before reaching perfection through inner harmony. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.10 Autolycus=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-D10 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Autolycus is a thief, calling himself the King of Thieves. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Special Attacks: +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= (U) Toothpick Throw.......: Left, Right + C Left. (Three buttons, four hits!) (D) 4-hit combo: Left + C Right, C Right, C Right, C Right. 5-hit combo: Left + C Left , C Left , C Left , C Up, C Up. +=+=+= Taunt: +=+=+= Autolycus shakes his butt at the enemy...the funny sound probably has been created by shaking a thin metal plate...I guess... +=+=+= Throw: +=+=+= He grabs his enemy by the feet and hurls him around a bit before throwing him away. +=+=+= Hints: +=+=+= Mostly ignore the toothpick. If you feel like throwing something at your enemy, always go for the hook: It is faster and it deals more damage. The Somersault Slash seems to have a handy little glitch: Sometimes it deals about twice as much damage as usually and there is a trick to get this effect every time you use the attack. Just repeatedly press C Down and C Left while the attack is started. Autolycus isn't easy to play as. His crouching attacks are pretty bad and so are his jumping attacks, requiring a different kind of strategy than usually. I recommend targeting the distance fighter and delivering a few high jump kicks to both him and his companion. Once you see the chance for it, release the Z button and repeatedly hammer on the C Down button. This starts a very fast series of kicks with only a short timeframe in between for your enemy to start a counter attack. Furthermore you will wander across the arena, often escaping the second enemy while continuously hurting the distance fighter. Repeat this until it's one on one. Now either use the same technique, or use jump kicks or throw some hooks. Alternatively you might also simply retreat in case you have more health left than the remaining baddie. In later battles this combo is blocked rather often, which requires you to abort it after a few seconds and to quickly jump out. Then do some jump kicks and eventually return to employing the ground combo. Despair, luckily, is pretty easy to beat as Autolycus. Either use the same strategy as against the other enemies or lure Despair's companion away and deal with him first. No matter which way you prefer, after the first enemy has been defeated you should keep your distance and toss both hooks and daggers to end the battle. +=+=+=+ Ending: +=+=+=+ Autolycus says he hopes he can lock his door before all of his new female fans arrive. Yeah, the old Casanova. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-4.11 Despair-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-D11 +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Introduction: +=+=+=+=+=+=+ Despair, the Champion of Dahak, is a demon that has been created just for this game. Hints:
+=+=+=

Despair is a boss just like they should be. He can do nearly anything and
still win. He has fantastic reach, great strength, he is pretty fast and he
is both on the ground and in the air the perfect killing machine.

Fight as you like. Either keep jumping around or keep crouching or even stand
upright while attacking the distance enemy. It is your choice. Use combos
(especially the crouching combo, although this makes you vulnerable to
distance attacks), single attacks or special attacks.

Note that the Fire Breath is best used a few feet away from your target, as
this allows for more hits, with each consecutive hit being stronger than the
previous one.

Despair cannot be knocked down. While it sometimes means a great advantage
(quick chance to counter or retreat) it can also be a disadvantage as you
might get stuck in an enemy combo without the possibility of staying on the
ground for a moment. Just remember this and act accordingly.

If you only have to fight a single enemy, the Rock Throw is highly effective.
Use it over and over again and see your opponent jump right into it every
time.

Against Despair you should jump in with a sword blow and instantly use the
crouching combo as you land.

Despair is the most difficult enemy in this game (Who would've thought?), so
I have given advice on how to fight against him in every character's guide.

Dahak would truly fear him if he had a bunny suit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At first I was terribly disappointed by this game. I have been a big fan of
the TV show for years (although it has been a few years now, since I have
watched it the last time) and as such I definitely was expecting more. The
cast of characters is good (Just one word: Joxer!!!), the animations, too,
but then? Single player doesn't offer enough, the arenas are boring, moves
are scarce and sticking to a handful of attacks is the best thing to do. But
then eventually I got better and better until I could afford to use other
strategies as well and with some weaker characters you definitely can have
some exciting matches. So after having beaten it completely, I admit that it
is somewhat fun, but still I'd only give it a 6 out of 10.
I'd appreciate any comments, questions, high scores, critics or whatsoever,
so please mail me at KeeperBvK@web.de if you have anything to tell me (even
misspellings and stuff).
