It is also best viewed with a screen resolution of 800x600 or higher. To skip to a section quickly, use your internet browser's find option (usually hotkeyed to F3 or CRTL+F). Type up the section you wish to skip to. You may have to press "search" twice to find the right section as the searcher may first refer to the table of contents. ---------------------------------------- Version History ---------------------------------------- 1.00 - Initial Release ================================================================================ 1. Introduction to Mega Man 2 ================================================================================ ---------------------------------------- WHAT IS MEGA MAN (Take Two) ---------------------------------------- Mega Man is a 2D action platformer designed by Capcom (although the credits also mentions a Elliot Evans). The goal of Mega Man is to traverse levels by walking, jumping, climbing, and shooting enemies along the way. At the end of each level Mega Man fights a boss. If Mega Man beats the boss, Mega Man gets its weapon. In Mega Man 2, a direct sequal to Mega Man, the evil Dr. Wily has developed eight Robot Masters to get revenge on his previous defeat by the good Dr. Light's Mega Man. It's up to Mega Man to once again defeat Dr. Wily. ---------------------------------------- HOW CAN I GET MEGA MAN 2? ---------------------------------------- This version is only available on select cellular phone services with a capable phone. Costs may vary, but for Verizon Wireless, the price is $3.99 for a month and $7.99 for unlimited use. This will be billed on your next phone bill. Mega Man 2 requires 507KB of memory, plus another 12KB for saves. ---------------------------------------- WHAT DO THESE MENU OPTIONS AT THE START OF THE GAME MEAN? ---------------------------------------- START: Allows you to start the game. It also takes you to another menu to select difficulty. Hard mode is just like normal, only enemies take twice as many hits. ABOUT: Displays credits and support information. CONTROLS: Displays controls and goals. You cannot remap controls in Mega Man 2. SOUND (ON/OFF): Turn the music on or off. There's no sound effects. You can also change the in game volume in the game. QUIT: Exits the game. ---------------------------------------- WHAT ARE THE CONTROLS? ---------------------------------------- Move left: Left, 4 Move right: Right, 6 Jump: 2 Autorun: 7 Jump left: 1 Jump right: 3 Climb ladders: Up or down Shoot: 5, Select (or OK) In game Menu: Shortcut keys, above the CALL and END buttons. Accept: Select (OK) Cancel: Clear Exit game: END Notes about Mega Man: - Mega Man can shoot an almost unlimited amount of bullets that can hit off screen enemies. - If Mega Man gets hit, he'll flash a bit. He's invulernable to anything but pits while he's flashing. ---------------------------------------- WHAT SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR IN THE GAME? ---------------------------------------- There are two instant death hazards: spikes and pits. Pits are areas where there are no floors. Spike appearances vary, but most of them retain their spike look. There are also four items in the game to watch out for: Energy capsule - This refills Mega Man's life. Comes in an orage dot or a large yellow dot. Weapon energy capsult - This refills Mega Man's weapon energy (his basic weapon has infinite energy). These come in small and large capsules with the same color scheme as Mega Man. 1-Up - These provide one extra life. These look like Mega Man's head. E-Take - Mega Man will keep these upon pick up. When Mega Man is low on health, open the in-game menu and use one of these to refill his health. These look like boxes with the same color scheme as Mega Man, marked with a flashing E. ---------------------------------------- HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION? ---------------------------------------- The original refers to Mega Man 2 released on the NES and Mega Man Anniversary Collection. The game is essentially a port of the original. The level designs are all the same, but certain things are lacking due to limitations of cellphone technology. As a result, all levels have lost their special effects such as animations or traps. The game also runs noticably faster than the original. Veterans of the original game may struggle with this as a result. Three features that were added that weren't in the original is the ability to revisit stages and fight the bosses again, exit stages at any time regardless if you defeated the boss before, and a save feature. Another thing I should point out, Mega Man jumps to his fullest no matter if the button was tapped or held. In the original and even the first cell phone Mega Man, Mega Man would jump until he reached his maximum jumping heigh or until the jump button was released. ================================================================================ 1. Walkthrough ================================================================================ You are given a selection of six bosses to choose from. From the top left going clockwise, they are: Bubble Man, Air Man, Quick Man, Wood Man, Crash Man, Flash Man, Metal Man, and Heat Man. The suggested order to fight the bosses is Metal Man, Bubble Man, Heat Man, Wood Man, Air Man, Crash Man, Flash Man, and Quick Man. However I like to do Metal Man, Bubble Man, Wood Man, Air Man, Crash Man, Heat Man, Flash Man, and Quick Man. Between Air Man and Quick Man can be done in any order, but this is to make Heat Man and Flash Man's level eaiser. ---------------------------------------- METAL MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Metal Blade Weakness: Metal Blade The level is riddled with conveyor belts that go in the direction of the arrows that are visible at either end. Towards the beginning of the stage, you'll find an E-tank for easy pickings. The next section contains presses that drop when Mega Man is close. Simply drop one, wait for it to go up some ways, and go under it to pass without getting hurt. The next phase is a swarm of drill bits that appear from the ceiling and the floor. You can either shoot them or avoid them but it's better to avoid them. After some platform jumping and decending, you'll be greeted to enemies that ride cogs. They'll come from the right side expectedly, so be prepared to shoot fast. You'll also come across another E-Tank. Aim your fall to get it, and it's a easy jump back. Watch out for the enemies that slide along the floor, you can't destroy them. Afterwards, it's Metal Man. BOSS STRATEGY: Metal Man is passive. He usually won't attack unless Mega Man does, or unless Mega Man gets too close. When Mega Man shoots, he'll jump and fire two or three Metal Blades towards Mega Man. Just jump to dodge. Keep on one side of the room jump, and fire. This fight will take a while. If you have Metal Blades (from a revisit), one will do the trick. WEAPON DESCRIPTION This weapon supposedly will fire in eight directions... but I could only get it to work in four (up, down, left, right). It's about as powerful as the Mega Buster. ---------------------------------------- BUBBLE MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Bubble Lead Weakness: Metal Blade This level is much harder due to the wacky control and the upped speed. At the start of the level, press fire a few times to kill an enemy just ahead. This part is simply jumping from platform to platform while encountering frog enemies. They will spit three smaller frogs that jump towards Mega Man, and they are persistant, so even if they aren't visible, they will still chase. The next part is a long decent, but watch out for shell monsters. The next part is tricky: if Mega Man touches the ceiling, Mega Man dies as it's riddled with spikes. Because Mega Man jumps his full height, you might want to consider getting hit so Mega Man has temporary invincibility so you can easily traverse the part. The last part is another platform jumper, but watch out for falling crabs. BOSS STRATEGY: Bubble Man will start on one side, the launch himself to the other, very fast. He'll release some Bubble Leads and do the same. Simply shoot Metal Blades at him like mad and he'll go down quickly. Do not worry about the directional ability Metal Blade has. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Mega Man shoots a bubble that travels along the ground and up walls. This weapon is useless against most enemies except for some bosses and the little spring enemy that slides along the floor (it's the only thing that can harm it). ---------------------------------------- WOOD MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Leaf Shield Weakness: Atomic Fire All I'm going to say in this level is run. Shoot anything that you can, but run. A combination of bleh controls plus the added speed has made this level a pain to try and fight in. The first section involves going through a forest where bats and rabbits are. The rabbit will fire carrots at ridiculously high speeds, even if its off screen Bats will take one shot to destroy, but the rabbit needs several more. After going down two laddres, you'll find three robot dogs that breath fire. Luckily the fire damages less than in the beginning, so get hit, run past the dogs. It's not worth fighting them. Going back up two ladders is an area where birds will drop eggs with little birds. If you simply run, it'll be easy to avoid. The next few screens will have more rabbits (just avoid them if you can). In the last area, roosters rill run towards Mega Man. Just go back a bit before they come to him and they'll jump right over Mega Man. BOSS STRATEGY: Since you don't have the weapon of choice here, this will take a while. Basically Wood Man is invulernable if he has shield up. He will set it up, launch four leaves up, then throw the shield left or right, depending on where Mega Man is. After Wood Man throws his shield, this is the only time he's vulnerable. Rapid fire with Metal Blade first, then with the Mega Buster. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Leaf Shield will protect Mega Man from most things as long as he stands still. If Mega Man moves left or right, the shield will go in that direction. It also may dissapear if it hits a large enemy. ---------------------------------------- AIR MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Air Shooter and Item 2 Weakness: Leaf Shield Another run, gun if necessary level. The hard part: this level is lots of pits! Remember that you can shoot at off-screen enemies, this will come in handy. The first part is a bunch of heads with horns that pop up. You're supposed to jump from head to head. However little heads will spawn from them. The next section is the hardest: jumping from cloud to cloud, but you first have to destroy the Kaminari Goro that's on it. This is where off-screen shooting comes in handy. Little birds from Wood Man make a comeback, but the level becomes easy until the next set of heads. Jump across that, then traverse platforms while dodging the birds. You'll also find some fat robots with fans in them. These will push Mega Man back, so if you see one, go off screen a bit and shoot it from there. BOSS STRATEGY: Just run up to Air Man with Leaf Shield equipped, and keep activating Leaf Shield until he goes down. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Air shooter fires three tornadoes that goes up. Great for anti-air work. Item 2 creates a jet sled that Mega Man can use to traverse large pits. Unlike the original, it will take off automatically and for a set distance. ---------------------------------------- CRASH MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Crash Bomb Weakness: Air Shooter Crash man is a relatively fun level, mostly because it's slightly easier than the original, if you can manage the controls that is! The first two rooms involve climbing while avoiding the floating enemies, then it's going through a hall full of Metalls. The next three screens is riding a platform to a ladder, with those floating enemies again. Leaf Shield works great while you're waiting to get to the ladder. The rest of the level is climbing up. When you get to a place where there's two ladders, take the left one, as it will lead to an E-tank. However when you get there, you'll have to improvise to get up further instead of going back down to go take the other ladder. Use Item 2, jump, and set it up so you can use it as a platform before it takes off. Then just follow the path to Crash Man BOSS STRATEGY: Like Metal Man, he's passive. If Mega Man shoots or gets too close, he'll jump up and shoot a Crash Bomb. This is where Air Shooter's anti-air capabilities come in handy. Two shots is all that it takes to take him down. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Mega Man shoots a bomb that either hurts an enemy (weakly) or clings to a wall and explodes (better). It can also destroy certain walls ---------------------------------------- HEAT MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Atomic Fire and Item 1 Weakness: Bubble Lead Enjoy the red background. This level involves a lot of jumping while avoiding the floating enemies from Crash Man's stage. Fortunately this level used to have "magic" blocks (blocks that appear and dissapear), but they've been replaced with real permanent blocks. In the section where you use the blocks to jump over walls, there are some where Crash Bombs will make a hole. One of the walls you're supposed to climb, it would be better to take the shortcut than to climb the wall. The last section involves jumping across blocks. You can use Item 2 to skip most of this, but be weary that there are two blocks that are high up and may block your way. Last, if you have most of your energy left, you can avoid the mech by getting hit and using the invincibility time to walk past it, otherwise you'll have to find another way around it. BOSS STRATEGY: Funniest conversion to this version ever. Anyway, Heat Man will stay on one side and toss fireballs until you attack him. Then he'll slide along to the other side, and toss more. And that's it. He won't move unless he gets hurt, but he'll still toss fireballs. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Hold the Fire Button to charge up. The longer you charge, the more powerful the blast will be, but at the cost of more energy. Item 1 creates floating platforms that rise up. ---------------------------------------- FLASH MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Flash Stopper Weakness: Metal Blade Another run and gun level. Crash Bombs will help you get to the easier paths but otherwise, it's just shoot some enemies, and run through. However, once you see the first mech, drop down in the right path. Go right until you get to a gap and use Item 2 to skip the army of mechs below. BOSS STRATEGY: Machinegun Metal Blade at him, as he'll simply just walk towards Mega Man. Occasionally he'll stop time, but he's not that much of a threat. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Flash stopper stops time until its weapon energy runs out. ---------------------------------------- QUICK MAN ---------------------------------------- Weapon: Quick Boomerang Weakness: Flash Stopper Quick Man's stage is known for instant death laser beams that you won't encounter until the fourth screen. The fortunate thing is, they're slower than the original so dodging shouldn't be hard. Other than going through the stage and destryoing enemies, the last part is what makes this stage hard: an obstacle course with lasers firing. Flash Stopper is worthless here since it drains so fast, so this is what you do: When you drop, hold left. This will guide Mega Man past the platform in the middle. Drop down on the right side. Drop towards the middle and exit on the right side. Go left, but hold right as you fall to the next screen. Keep going right, then left. Skip the powerups, they're not worth it. Go fall to the right, then left, and you should be clear. The last part contains two mechs. You can either attempt to walk under them when they jump, or just destroy them. BOSS STRATEGY: Quick Man is quite hard as he moves very fast. To start, use Flash Stopper to wipe out half of his life and use the Mega Buster, Air Shooter, or Atomic Fire to take off the remaining health. You may need to use an E-Tank. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Mega Man will fire a series of boomerangs that quickly travels in an arc. ---------------------------------------- WILY STAGE 1 ---------------------------------------- To select Wily's stages, press OK in the middle square in the boss selection screen. The first part of the stage involves going across a large field while birds drop eggs. You'll find two structures that you need Item 1 to climb. But once you climb up the first structure, use Item 2 to skid across. Next is a climb with Sniper Joes. Hit them with Metal Blade from the ladder when they're shooting. When you encounter a spring enemy, ignore it, climb up. This next part is tricky to get across. You can jump to the ladder in the middle, but you should use Item 2 to get to the next ladder. Just go up, ignoring the floating enemies. When you get to the platforms, time your jumps and make sure your aim is true. After several blocks, a dragon will come and give chase. Towards the end, you can fight it. BOSS STRATEGY: There will be three blocks you can use as footholds. The Dragon will fly slow about randomly firing a fireball towards Mega Man. It's easy to dodge so take your time. If Mega Man falls or touches the dragon, you'll have to start over from before the platforms. On to killing it! Use Quick Boomerangs and fire rapidly. The boomerangs have a bit of a reach so you can actually hit the dragon from the farthest block. ---------------------------------------- WILY STAGE 2 ---------------------------------------- The first bit, plunger enemies will drop down. Avoid them for now until you get to a pit full of spikes. When you do, bust out Item 2 and fly across. Towards the end you'll see two ladders. If you're daring, go for the second one, otherwise take the first. The second ladder has goodies such as weapon energy capsules (kind of useless though), then a 1 up and a E-Tank. The first ladder just has some enemies. Both converge to a room with a spike pit on two sides with a path in the middle, drop down it. Next is a hallway full of drill bits and those spiked presses from Metal Man's stage. Go through those, drop down two more screens (watch out for spikes on the bottom) and you'll find the boss. BOSS STRATEGY: The boss is actually a bunch of the same enemy, appearing one at a time from a random direction. After it appears, it will fly towards Mega Man. Use Metal Blades to dispatch them quickly. However, don't waste shots, as without Metal Blade, it'll be harder to kill the boss. The more you kill, the faster the others get. ---------------------------------------- WILY STAGE 3 ---------------------------------------- This is a short stage. To start, fall to the right. There will be a weapon energy capsule, then an E-Tank. Then fall down down two more screens. Next is a place full of spikes and platforms. Time your jumps carefully, and watch out for the pits as large fishes may come up out of them (although I haven't seen any). The next major part involves jumping through a pit of spikes. When you start off, go to the left a little to avoid the indent to the right. It's not too complex to avoid and after a hallway of two more enemies, you'll find the boss. BOSS STRATEGY: Climb up on main chasis above the treads, and use Quick Boomerang. That's all there is to it. The boss will spawn Mets, but that's not a problem. ---------------------------------------- WILY STAGE 4 ---------------------------------------- If anyone has played the original, they know that this stage has a trick up its sleeve: pitfall traps. That is, for the first half of this level, floors have pits disguised as floors. Mostly this is just an inconvenience and will force you to go back a screen, but one of the last sections is over a bed of spikes. In any case, the first half is simply climbing up ladders. The path is fairly straight forward and there really isn't many pitfalls so you don't have to worry about those. Since Mega Man's weapons are refilled anyway, just follow the path forward. You'll encounter a Metall, but that's about it. When you get to the room with spikes, the pit is somewhere in the middle. You can either attempt to jump to the ladder, or use Item 2. For newbies, Item 2 is the way to go. The screen after that has a few Metalls and an E-tank, which for the time I've spent playing Mega Man 2 (on this or original), I never bothered with it. After a nice hallway, the second part begins, which is a series of moving platform rooms from Crash Man's stage. The problem, you can't fall to the floor as there's spikes. The rooms also alternate between one filled with floating enemies and a quasi-puzzle like room. The first room is simple, ride on the platform with Leaf Shield on, and get off when you're near the ladder. The second room is tricky, as the platform moves to areas where Mega Man cannot pass and it will lead to his death if you stay on too long. The third room is a bit like the first and the second. The fourth room was made easier from the original version. So you won't have problems with this one. The last bit is just a hall with mechas and Sniper Joes. BOSS STRATEGY: Use Crash Bombs. If you've played the original, you'll know that you've had enough Crash Bombs to take out all of the enemies, with two bombs to spare, but you had to use those two bombs to destroy the walls. In this version, it's much easier as Crash Bombs are more plentiful on a full charge. You'll need to use Item 1 to get about, or you can use Crash Bombs to blow away walls, and as long as you keep moving, the shots they fire will be easy to dodge. ---------------------------------------- WILY STAGE 5 ---------------------------------------- Boss fight redux. You'll fight all eight Robot Masters again. |Heat Man| |Flash Man| |Air Man| |Metal Man| |Wood Man| |Bubble Man| |Quick Man| |Crash Man| In case you need a recap on what to use: Heat Man: Bubble Lead Air Man: Leaf Shield Wood Man: Atomic Fire, or just regular shots Bubble Man: Metal Blade Quick Man: Time Stopper, then regular shots Crash Man: Air Shooter Metal Man: Metal Blade Flash Man: Metal Blade After each fight you'll get a large energy capsule. After all the bosses are defeated, a new hatch will open in the middle, which will exit the stage. ---------------------------------------- WILY STAGE 6 ---------------------------------------- Make sure you have three E-Tanks, or some E-Tanks. No enemies here, just a short trek to Wily. BOSS STRATEGY: The Wily Alien thingy will bounce around the room, instead of a Figure 8 from the original. That and it will shoot at Mega Man at times. This makes it hard since there's no pattern to follow. And the way it bounces is basically diagonally at 90 degree angles wherever it touches. The only weapon that works is Bubble Lead. It's best to shoot the Alien while it's coming down towards Mega Man. When it is, jump up and fire two Bubble Leads. If you're timing is good, it'll hit the Alien. Just keep doing this and it should go out. By the way since Bubble Lead is the only weapon that works, aim your shots well, and if you can't make it, simply go to the in-game menu and exit the level to try again. Enjoy the ending! ---------------------------------------- TRICKS ---------------------------------------- E-Tank Trick There are several stages with E-Tanks that you can go after. If you beat or exit the stage and come back, there might be a chance that the E-Tank comes back as well (I haven't tested this with all the stages with E-Tanks). The one I found that works 100% is in Wily Stage 3. Go to it, fall to the right, get the E-Tank, and exit. Come back, it'll be there. ================================================================================ Credits ================================================================================ Mega Man and everything related copyrighted 1987, 2007 Capcom Verizon Wireless is a trademark of Verizon All other material in this guide written by Latios XT for use at Gamefaqs.com Comments, complaints, suggestions: Altomarelatios at AOL.com
