Story ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ The story so far... Once there were calm times in the peaceful empire of King Guido, till a reckless horde of settlers invaded in the northwestern part of the realm and disturbed the mellow harmony. The "Townies", as the folks called the savages, were barbarians without any decency and manner. Very quick they had got a grip in this fertile valley and it looked almost impossible to get rid of them again The Townies were excellent craftsmen and in the twinkling of an eye they had built a mighty settlement. They used the comprehensive raw materials of their environment and lived well from the fishery and their own pig farms. The king couldn't banish them from his land anymore, so he tried to punish them with high taxes and bring them down that way. But instead of being frightened, those rebels went out and looted neighbouring provinces and their power grew from month to month. As the king tempted to discover new lands to displace his wounded power, his forced army met up with the superior Townies again and lost the battle. Since then the king has retired with his family in the highlands. He now leads a pig breed and lives with his wife and their two daughters in unison with nature. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ 05. FAQ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Q: How do I get a highscore? A: Highscore are only generated in the random game. The Highscore is calculated and saved every time the game is saved. The game can be saved manually in the castle or by using the autosave function. Q: What is "alternative control" in the settings menu? A: Alternative control stands for two different options of moving the selector over the map. The first variant will move the selector from field to field horizontally. No fields are left out when moving the selector. The second variant will move the selector in bigger steps horizontally. Every second tile is left out when moving. Q: Where can I check the mission goals after having started a mission? A: You can check the mission goals in the castle. Select the icon showing the crossed swords. Q: What means "tiles terraformed" and "successful raids" in the mission text? A: These values are used in some missions. A tile is counted as "terraformed" after it has been changed to a wood or a lake tile. A successful raid is counted when your knights looted at least one resource in a raid. Q: How is the minigame working? A: Once you have built a barracks you can send knights to a raid. Depending on the device you can lead the raids. When leading a raid the screen will switch to a minigame map as soon as the knights are reaching the map border. After switching to the minigame map your knights will follow the arrow. This arrow is moved just like the selector in the normal map. Try to gather as many resources as possible before getting caught by the enemy Townies. You will only receive resources if at least one of your knights survives the given time. Q: Why are there 3 icons with just one number in the upkeep screen sometimes? A: These icons are counted as one resource group: "Food". As soon as the upkeep is due, one of these resources will be removed from the castle storage. Q: Some of the Townies have symbols above their heads. What do they mean? A: These symbols are indicating the resource this Townie is carrying at the moment. A red flag means that this Townie is carrying more than one resource to supply a building. Q: Sometimes there's an "!" or a symbol "!" at the bottom left border of the screen. What does this mean? A: This symbol indicates an important message (storage full, fire or other events). Press the left display key to read this message. Q: I can't increase the productivity of this building. Why? A: The productivity can be set depending on the level of the current building. A one star building can increase productivity to 40%, a two star building to 60% and a three star building to 100%. Yet it could happen that you do not have enough resources in the castle storage to pay the upkeep for this building In this case the productivity can not be increased. Q: The corn field of the mill is gone. What can I do? A: Check for a free grass field nearby the mill. Change this grass tile to a field tile and the mill is working again. Q: Why can't I buy and sell all resources in the marketplace? A: You can buy and sell various goods in the marketplace depending on the level of the marketplace. The higher the level of the marketplace the more goods can be traded. Q: What does the church do? A: By donating gold to the church you can increase the luck of your Townies. Lucky townies tend to be more successful and might have more lucky incidents. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ 08. Walkthrough ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ General hints to build a successful settlement - You should make sure that you can pay the upkeep of the building you want to build next. If not, build the industry (e.g. for food) to secure your upkeep first. - It is a good thing to have in stock more than you need, because you can sell the surplus and earn money. - You can earn a lot of gold with a working tool production - Always attend to pre-plan short ways for your Townies, because as in real life - time is money! ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 1 Mission goal: - 20 units wood - 20 units fish - 1 lumberjack - 2 fishermen At last! A perfect place for a new settlement! Start with building up your basic supply. Create a lumberjack and fishermen in order to store some wood and fish. Gather enough fish and wood to fill the storage of the castle. You start with a simple castle. Place one or two lumberjacks near the forest to gather wood in order to build the two fishermen. After you have build two fishermen you will store wood and fish in your castle until you reach the mission goal. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 2 Mission goal: - 1 lumber mill - 1 stone cutter - 2 mills - 1 castle level 2 - 1 pig farm - 40 units pigs The local king is not amused about your Townies starting a settlement on his land, so he is demanding high taxes. Yet the Townies are ignoring him. They'd rather invest their money. Create a sawmill to get some lumber and mine stones from the mountains. Upgrade your castle with the gathered lumber and stones to create more space for resources. Furthermore build mills and a pig farm in order to secure the food supply. A marketplace could help to get some gold by selling surplus resources. You start with two fishermen two lumberjacks that spend you enough wood and food resources. First you should build a lumber mill to produce lumber, which you need as a base for your settlement. It’s important that your buildings (lumberjack, armourer, pig farm and blacksmith) are close to the castle, because short ways will improve production time. The next important construction is the stone cutter. After that you are able to put up two mills, a pig farm and the market. Tipp: Always keep an eye on your upkeep and build some fishermen if you want to avoid running out of food. Finish the mission by upgrading your castle and storing 40 pigs. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 3 Mission goal: - 1 smeltery - 1 blacksmith - 1armourer - 1 castle level 2 - 1 marketplace level 3 - 40 units tools - 40 units weapons - achieve mission goal within 300 days! You have been warned by the king! If you do not pay your taxes, he will send his army to collect the debt. You should better prepare for this! Mine the iron from the nearby mountains and produce tools and weapons. Upgrade the marketplace to sell more goods like iron and tools. Hurry up! The king will be here within 300 days! At the beginning you have a big settlement with enough food, wood and lumber production. It is a good idea to build one further stonecutter to accelerate your progress. 300 days is a lot of time, so don't hurry. Next step is to enlarge your wood turnout and to upgrade your market to the next level, because with the market at level two you can yield more gold. Furthermore, it’s recommended to build smelteries in the early game to store a lot of iron for the blacksmith. To finish the mission, you have to have in storage 40 tools and 40 weapons. But castle storage at level one is only able to store 20 pieces of each good. So, you will have to upgrade your castle in order to get a bigger storage. In mission three it is important to have a big variety of food productions to ensure your upkeep. Therefore, you can use pig farms, fishermen and mills. As soon as you have the blacksmith and the armourer you can concentrate on producing the needed amount of tools and weapons. Finally you can upgrade your market to level three and the mission is done! ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 4 Mission goal: - terraform 10 map tiles - gold never drops below 100 - achieve mission goal within 250 days The king is very angry now! He announced that he will send his troops to teach you some manners. Meanwhile some of your Townies have traveled to the south. They have discovered valuable stone and iron sources in the mountains there. Yet in this area there are only few forests and lakes. Terraform this region to a suitable place for a new settlement. Create new forests and lakes and keep an eye on your gold. Your Townies will lose the faith in you if your gold drops too low. Furthermore you have to act quickly to get back to your main problem: the king. As from now on the time limits are tight - so you need to hurry! Always keep an eye on your remaining gold and ensure a little safety margin, so that you have around 110 - 120. It is important to terraform grass to wood in the early days, because the surrounding forest will not yield the amounts you will need. It would be clever to base your food production near the castle. Now you should have a constant income of gold to terraform lakes & wood and even to build some more lumberjacks to finish the mission in time. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 5 Mission goal: - 2 barracks - 15 successful raids - 200 coins of gold - achieve the mission goal within 100 days The time has come! Troops of the king have marched out! Yet the king has not expected the courage of the Townies! A hidden outpost was created in a small swampy area. You can use it to start raids on the nearby camps of the king's army. Build at least two barracks and loot as many gold and goods as possible. A little blessing might be useful. Act quickly! Our hideout will not stay unnoticed forever. You start with a little industry designed for weapon productions that you will need for raids. A raid is done with the barracks built. You must have weapons in stock to arm your troops. You should win the mission with two barracks and a church. The best thing to do is to perform raids by yourself instead of using the automated raid option. With a little bit of training you will gather more goods and less likely to fail. Always spend some gold in the church to keep the blessing of your Townies! If you lead a raid select the position your crew has to walk to. The enemy castle spreads defenders that your troops have to avoid, because in case of a collision with enemy forces you might lose some of your Townies. Gather all resources which pop up at random points and finish the raid with at least one soldier alive. Long diagonal runs help shaking off the hostile pursuers. If you have no luck with the raids for a longer period of time, use the market to buy food and resources for the productivity of your buildings. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 6 Mission goal: - 800 coins of gold - 1 church level 3 Hooray! The king's troops have been defeated! Your men have been divinely favored. Grateful, your Townies want to build a great church. Show what you have learned and lead your Townies in this swampy area to earthly and divine prosperity! Mission six starts on a very swampy area, so you will have to do a lot of terraforming. First you should take care of the places close to the castle, which makes more sense because of the short distance. Use the little amount of free tiles all over the map to build basic structures like fishermen, lumberjacks, stonecutters and a lumber mill. You can build the marketplace far away from the castle, because there is no transporting between those two buildings. Do a lot of terraforming and extend your settlement using common structures in order to earn money with selling a big surplus of all resources, especially wood when the market is at level two.Aim to create a tool industry and upgrade the market to level three, which will generate a higher income. For a working tool production you need a lot of iron and wood, so be aware to build the right structures early enough. You also need tools to create and upkeep buildings on a higher level, then you are able to upgrade some of them. Concentrate first on upgrading basic upkeep suppliers like your food industry. Now you should earn the amount of gold needed with tools and other goods. Finish the mission by setting up a church at level three. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 7 Mission goal: - 1500 coins of gold - 20 successful raids - 1 barracks level 3 - 80 lumber - achieve the mission goal within 650 days Rumor has it that there is a new and mysterious world far to the west over the great ocean. A paradise of most wondrous items and wealth. The king demands all these things for him and is starting an expedition. The Townies want to prevent the king's plan and started an expedition of their own. Win this race! A lot of gold, a good barracks and enough lumber will be necessary to build boats. Will the Townies be able to achieve all these things before the king does? In this mission you have a big map with a lot of free space, but you should build your first buildings near the castle except the fishing and wood industry You start with a castle at level two, which makes it easy to store and trade in the beginning. The map is rich with resources. You can get a lot of money with wood, stones and iron for a big growth. In this mission you must win 20 raids successfully, which will take a lot of time. So build two or three barracks and don't forget to create an armourer to supply your troops with weapons. Blessing from the church is also important if you need to win a lot of raids. Upgrade your barracks from time to time, because having the barracks on level three is one of the mission goals. Upgrade the buildings near the castle to level three in order to gain 1500 coins of gold which will take some time. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Mission 8 Mission goal: - 1000 gold - 1 smeltery level 3 - 1 pig farm level 3 - 1 church level 3 - 1 mill level 3 - 1 lumber mill level 3 - 1 blacksmith level 3 - 1 fishermen level 3 - 1 lumberjack level 3 - 1 stone cutter level 3 - 1 armourer level 3 - 1 marketplace level 3 - 1 barracks level 3 Your sailors have reached the new world before the king. They returned with precious gems and other valuable items. Your trade with the new world is working well while the king is not able to make as much money as you do. Now you've got the chance to show him once and for all how to rule a kingdom. Build a city big enough to spread the word of your wealth and prosperity! This mission takes places on a big map with a lot of resources and with a difficult goal. You have to take your whole industry to level three. So you really have to invest a lot of time into securing the upkeep, because buildings at level three take a lot of gold, food, tools and some other goods. You start with a castle at level three and a lot of money and resources. Therefore you should build an army of lumberjacks, fisherman, stonecutters, smelteries and mills. Build two sawmills and a pig farm near the castle and try to push the market to level three in a short time. The upkeep for your buildings will be very expensive. A huge tool industry is a reliable source for enough gold. Upgrade some of your lumberjacks and smelteries to level two, because the tool production needs a lot of iron and wood. With an intact industry you can start to upgrade all your buildings. Begin with the food industry and later with buildings like the church, the barracks or the armourer. Always have an eye on your upkeep and enlarge your industry or decrease the productivity of buildings you don’t need in case of lacking resources. Finally! Word has it in the realm that a small group of Townies has messed around with the king. Mortified by the permanent defeats the king decided to resign. He handed over his kingdom to the Townies and left. Years later rumours spoke of the king having become a humble pig farmer... When you have mastered mission eight, you are ready for the big game! You learned all helpful tricks to create a prospering settlement by your own and you can try to achieve the best highscore in Townsmen 2 history. Good luck! ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ 09.
