Items ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Introduction This is a walkthrough for the Cellphone version of Ys Book I - Ancient Vanished Omen. The original Ys has been ported to almost every system, and each game is slightly different. If you've played any other version of the game, your general knowledge will get you through it. If you are looking to obtain this game for your cell phone, it's located in the "Strategy and RPG" section, and then the "Classic RPG" sub section when you go into shop games. If you don't see the section on your phone, chances are you can't get it. It costs $4.99 to download as of right now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gameplay Tips 1: Save Often. The difficulty is not balanced in this game. You might be invincible against enemies in a current area, but when you move on to the next area, they kill you in just a few hits. 2: Save Smart. I learned the hard way that they respawn enemies when you load a save. I had a save where I had 1 hit left, and the enemy spawned right on top of me, making it impossible to continue. You only get one save in this game so make sure you only save in areas that are free of enemies. 3: Killing Enemies. If you've never played an Ys game before, the combat will confuse you at first. You can't swing your sword. You have to strategically "run into" them. You don't want to hit a enemy head on though. You want to be slightly right or left if you are attacking them vertically. Or slightly above or below them if attacking horizontally. 4: Refill Your Health. In non dungeon areas you regenerate health by standing still. Use this to your advantage. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Walkthrough Town of Minea You start off in the town of Minea, which is just a Menu in this game. The first thing you should do is visit the weapons shop and buy a short sword, then go to the Armory and buy a chain mail. Then leave town. You need a shield to advance the story, but you don't start off with enough money to purchase it right away. Spend some time running this initial field and getting used to the battle system. There is a bridge in the northeastern part of this field, but don't cross it until you are level 2. Once you reach level 2, cross the bridge, and follow the dirt path south and east. When you see the dirt path fork and go north and south as well, go south. You will see a small lake. Go over to the top right corner of it, and inspect that area to find the Gold Pedestal. The exact positioning it tricky. It's basically directly below the small rock on the ground. Just keep at it until you find it. I know where it is, and I still have trouble getting it. Afterwards backtrack to Minea. Go into the Market, and sell the Gold Pedestal. Then buy the Sapphire Ring from the Market. Go over to the tavern and talk to the Muscular Man. He will take the Sapphire ring from you for 1500, giving you enough money to beef up your equipment. Go into the Armory and buy the Small Shield. If you took the time to level up to level 2, you should also have enough money to buy the Long Sword. Equip both, and go to the Seer. You will obtain Sara's Crystal. Zepic Village Go back across the bridge, go to the 4-way dirt fork, and this time go east to Zepic Village. Speak to the Elder to get access to the mountains, then speak to the Old lady to get the Sanctuary key. Exit to the mountains. Go north until you reach the entrance to the shrine, then go east. Follow the northern path to the Theif Stronghold, and talk to Goban. Now it's time to do some major level grinding. Spend time outside of Solomon Shrine getting to level 6 or 7. This takes up a huge chunk of time, but it is necessary for the upcoming boss fight. Once you reach level 7, you should have around 2500 gold. Backtrack to Minea, and buy a Plate Mail, and purchase a wing from the Market. Now, enter Solomon's Shrine Solomon's Shrine B1F Go all the way to the right, and you will see a gold statue. Touch it to teleport. From where you start go south, then west, then south through 2 doorways. Go west, then north through the door. Then west, and south through a door. Go west, and north. You will see a special door. Go through it for a boss fight. Boss Fight If you've followed this walkthrough so far, you should be invincible for this fight, so just stand in the middle of the fire, wait for him to appear, and run into him. If you are lower than level 7, then patience is the name of the game. Wait on the bottom, or top of screen, and wait for him to appear in the middle. When he does, run through him as soon as there is an opening in the fire. Obviously you can do this at any point, but to account for the sluggish cell phone controls, just wait in the middle. Afterwards continue through the door. B2F Spend some time leveling up on this floor. Even though you were invincible for the boss fight, you won't be able to damage some of the enemies here. Note that you can't regenerate health in dungeons, but you can on B1F. So stay close to the entrance. Level 8 will be enough to damage those blue things. From the entrance go South, west slightly, then south through a series of doors. Go east, and north through the second door you come to. This will lead you to a chest containing the Prison Key. Go back through the doors, and go east, and north to the next door you come to. Follow the path east, and take then second the last path there north, and follow it to get the dungeon key. Backtrack south, follow the path back west, and take the first path north that you come to. When you reach a path to the south, take it, and get the silver bell from the chest. Time to backtrack out of here. Follow the path back to the southern wall, then to the western wall, and back up the series of stairs. Head east, and take the second path north. Continue going east, take the path south when you hit a fork, and continue east. You will see 2 prison cells. Open the second one to rescue Feina and get the Mask of eyes. When you are done talking to her, go south, and hug the eastern wall. This will lead to a chest containing the necklace. Now, make sure you have 2000 gold, and backtrack to B1F. B1F Go south through the doors until you hit the southern wall. Go east, north through the door. Then east, south through the door. Then east, and north through three doors, leading to a chest with the armor ring. Go south through the door, east passing the statue, and north through a door. Go through the last door here, and east to a chest containing a Ruby. Now backtrack to the Statue, and leave. Misc Items Go back south to the Zepic Village, and talk to the Elder. You will the towns Silver bell, and get the power ring in return. You should equip this immediately. This is the ring you will use the majority of the time. Now go to Minea, and sell the Necklace and Ruby at the Market, and then buy the Medium Shield. Now Head back to Solomons Shrine. Solomon Shrine B1F From where you start go south, then west, then south through 2 doorways. Go west, then north through the door. Then west, and south through a door. Go west, and north. B2F Go south through the series of doors again. Go east, then north through the third doorway. Follow the path east until you hit a wall, Then go north and follow the path around to B3F B3F Follow the path west to find a chest in the northwest corner of the room containing the Ivory key. You should probably spend some time here leveling up. The enemies on the bottom half of this floor are tough. I reccomend getting to level 12. Follow the path to southwestern corner of this room. You will see a gold teleport statue here, but don't take it yet. Go east past it, and follow the linear path to next teleport statue that you see. Take this one. Follow the path to get to a chest containing the Silver Shield. Go south and take the next teleport statue. Then follow the path back west, and take this teleport statue. Go south, you will see a gray statue. Remember this point. Head west, and go through the door to a chest containing a heal potion. Go back to the gray statue, and equip the mask of eyes. A door will appear next to the statue. Go through it, and take off the mask. You can't see enemies while it's equipped. Go east, and take the series of doors and the statue, until you reach a chest with the marble key. Now backtrack to the door you went through with the mask of eyes, and go north. At this point I was unable to damage the boss, so take them to fight enemies to build up 10,200 gold. Use the wing to teleport back to Minea. Purchase the Tulwar, Reflex Armor, and another wing. You now have best equipment that you buy. From this point on, money doesn't have any use. You can use to fill out your inventory, but it isn't required. Now, head back to B3F Take the teleport. Go west, then north through the door touch the wall for a boss fight. Boss Fight This Snake-like enemy can only damamge you with his head. So your strategy is to run circles around him, and keep running into his body. He should go down quite easily. Afterwards, go to the chest to get the first book of Ys. You will get a chapter finished Message, and appear outside of the shrine. Backtrack to Minea and go to the Seer to get the second book of Ys. Go back towards Zepic. When you get to the four way dirt path, go north to entrance of the Mine. Mines Level 1 If you've played any other version of this game, the first thing you will notice is that you can actually see! Every other version only gives you a small circle of light around Adol, which makes it very difficult to navigate. From the entrance, head west. Keep going west past the southern path. follow the path down, and around to a chest containing a potion. Follow the path east and south. At the intersection go east for a chest containing the Timer Ring. From there go North, and east, and follow the path to the northeast to a chest with the Silver Armor. Follow the path south, stay to the east and go south. Then go west across a bridge. Follow the path around, and go through the entrance to the next level of the cave. There is a difficulty jump on the next level, so you may want to gain a level before proceeding. Level 2 Go east, and stick to the north wall. You will see a chest along the way. Go south to the entrance of this small area. You should be about level 15, and have full health before attack that enemy, he is going to hurt you. Open the Chest for a Heal ring. The heal ring is one of the most useful items in the game. When it's equipped it allows you to regenerate health while standing still in dungeons. Hug the east wall, and go all the way south. Follow it west across a bridge. Go north and open the chest containing the Roda seed. Go north, then east when you have to. You will see three paths going south. Take the Third one to a chest containing the Harmonica. Use a wing to return to Minea Silver Sword Go to the Alley, and give Leah the Harmonica. Now Leave Minea. Equip the Roda seed, and use it. Now go across the bridge towards Zepic. Go south and find the dirt path. Go south into the grass at the first point the path dips south. You will see a tree that is much bigger than the rest of them. This is the Roda Tree. Go in front of it to talk to it. Go south to the little lake. When you hit the west side of it, go directly south to another Roda Tree. You will receive the Silver Sword. Now go back to the mines, and get to the Entrance of Level 2. Level 2 From the entrance head west, and south, and then east past the little rock outcrop. It's hard to see, but the entrance to level 3 is on the south side of this huge rock. Level 3 Follow the Linear path. When you reach a fork, go west. Go north when you see and enemy. Follow this area to a chest containing the Darm Key. Go back west, and continue to follow the path west. At the fork go south for a chest containing a potion. Go back to the fork and go east. Follow the linear path around to a door. Make sure you are at max level before entering. When you are at Max level enter. Open the chest to start the boss fight. Boss Fight This boss spends most of his time as a swarm of tiny bats. He can't be damaged until they all come together to form one giant bat. The tradition way to beat this boss is to run to the corner, wait for the swarm to come toward, run around them, and run to a corner on the side of the room, while you wait until they form the big bat to get a hit in. However, unlike every other version of this game, in this one, the door in the northwest corner to the Ancient Ys Nucleus is open before the boss is defeated. However he can't pass through it. So your strategy here is run through the door, move back a bit, because some of the swarm will reach through the door, and just wait for them to come together. Since he can't pass through the door, he will form right in front of it. When he does just run through the door, and then run right back. You should win easily this way. After the battle open the chest for the 3rd book of Ys. Preparing for the Tower Time to tie up any loose ends, since you can't return from Darm Tower. If you haven't done so already, Go to Minea and buy all the equipment you don't have. Then head over to Zepic, and to the old lady's house. Talk to Jeva, and have her read all 3 books of Ys. Talk to Feina as well. Now head back to the theif Stronghold, east of the Solomon Shrine. Talk to Goban, and choose yes to enter Darm Tower. You can't leave the tower once you enter. Darm Tower 1F From the Entrance east. Pass the first path north, and take the second one. Go outside. There is an area like this in between every floor. You can regenerate health in these outside areas. Also it is circular, so going left or right doesn't matter. There are always only 2 doors, the one you came through, and the one you need to go to. Go to the next door to 2F 2F Follow the Path, and head into the northern room with 3 chests. Containing a Heal Potion, Mirror, and the Evil Ring. Backtrack to 1F 1F Take the Northern path to the west. 3F Follow the path South, then east. When you see a gap in the statue, you can use the Mask of Eyes to reveal a door there, but there is no need to right now Follow the path to 4F 4F Go south, east, then north. 5F Head West, and take the second path to the North. There is nothing on the first path 6F Walk through the door, and you will be zapped down to the basement. B1F You are now in a prison, and all of your Silver Equipment is gone! Take the time to reequip yourself. Go over and talk to Luta Gemma, then just kinda run around the room for a while. Cue Dogi's customary break the wall scene. Then Talk to him to receive the Eagle Statue. Head west, and start the trek back to where you were. Be a bit more careful though, you aren't as strong as you were. 3F When you reach the gap in the row of statues, Use the Mask of eyes, and go through the door. Talk to the old man to receive the blue Necklace 6F When you reach the trio of statues again, Equip the blue Necklace before going in any further, and you will be safe. Follow the path east. 7F Head West, then south, then east and through the north door. Follow that path to a chest to recover the Silver Sword. Go back north, and go the right of the 2 northern doors. 8F Follow the path Down, and around to the Boss Door. Boss Fight The Preying Mantis stays up against the north wall, and throw out 3 boomerang like blades at a time. You'll want to stay on the bottom of the screen here, wait for him to throw out his 3 blades, and loop around them, and attack the Mantis while he's defenseless. You only have time for one run through. You'll basically be running in circles until he is dead. After he is defeated, go through the northern door, and open the chest containing the Hammer, and another Book of Ys. Now, backtrack to that northern passage. 9F Go West, then south. You will see a chest along the way. Follow the Path around to regain your Silver Shield. Once you do though, the statues will come to life. Then go south, and through the door. 10F Go West to a north/south fork. Go North. Outside go right to the second column equip the Hammer and Smash it. Luta Gemma has taken up residence on the 11th floor, but there is no see to him right now. You will need to return here later though, so remember the location. Go back inside, and take the southern fork. Go through the door in the far east side of the floor. 11F This floor would've slowly zapped your health if you didn't smash the column. Head east to the exit. 12F Head West and go through the door. 13F Take the Western Door here. 14F Go east, and through the door for a boss fight. Boss Fight There isn't much strategy to this rock guy, just stay tight on him and keep running left and right. With a little luck, he will run out of HP before you do. Go north through the door, and open the chests containing the Rod, and the 5th Book of Ys. Go back to 13F 13F Go through the southern door, and touch the mirror. Head south here passing by a mirror on the way. Touch the southern most mirror. Go west, and south. Touch the mirror. Touch the mirror in the northeastern section here. Kill the enemy, and open the chest to regain your Silver Armor. Touch the Mirror to go back to the beginning. Go through the south door and touch the mirror. Go south, and touch the first mirror you come to. Take the right mirror in the room you emerge in. Touch the mirror that you appear in front of, then follow the path to the exit. 15F Go west, and take the southern path first. Open the chest for the Battle Shield. Go back north, and follow the path west. Ignore the path north for now, and follow the path south, east, south, then west to enter the tower of Rado. Tower of Rado Follow the path around, its linear. When you get to a door, equip the blue Necklace, and the Evil Ring together, and go through the door. Speak with Leah to get the Glasses. Exit the Tower of Rado to 15F 15F It's now time to back track to 11F to talk to Luta Gemma. You will receive the Blue Amulet. Got back to 15F, and take the northern Path. 17F Head down the right path, the left is just a dead end. Go west, then north, and open the chest for a health potion. Go west, and north to the exit. 18F Go South and take the eastern fork. Go north and through the door. 19F Follow the Path around here, and open the chest for the Battle Armor. Go back down to 18F Go south until you a wall. Then west until you it a wall. Then north and through the exit. 20F Follow the path, and go through the hall in the wall. Kill the 2 enemies in front of the chest, then open it to get the flame sword. Go back through the door, and follow the path east to the next floor. 21F Go east, and touch the northern mirror. Go through the southern door, and follow the path northeast and touch the mirror. Touch the left mirror, and follow the path to a boss fight. Boss fight Not alot of strategy here either. I just stand on the side of the screen, and run through them when they come together in the center of the room. Go north through the series of doors, and through another boss door. Equip the Silver Sword, Silver Shield, and Silver Armor, and step on the tile with the design on it. Boss Fight Dark Fact is a pain. He floats back and forth through the screen, and hits you with fireballs the entire time. If that's not bad enough, everytime you get a hit, a piece of the floor disappears. If you are standing on top of it, you automatically die. The other problem is that if you just hit him randomly, you may run out of room. The best strategy is start on the bottom of the screen, since fireballs tend to miss you there. Wait for him to come down to that level, and run left or right, getting 2 or 3 hits. Once you do that on that level, move up a step and repeat it there. The other thing you can do is stay on the bottom, and run up to him when he goes by. It still takes a bit of luck to beat him. After he's finished, pick up the final Book of Ys from the ground and read it.
