MEGA MAN (For mobile) Walkthrough By: LatiosXT Table of Contents: 1. Introduction 2. The Bosses 3. Credits ============================================================================== 1. Introduction ============================================================================== --------------------------------------- WHAT IS MEGA MAN? Mega Man is a 2D action platformer developed by Capcom as well as the name of the main character himself. Like many 2D platform games, the objective is to traverse each stage by jumping, climbing, etc. while fighting off enemies. Mega Man is armed with an arm cannon which he can use to defeat enemies and other foes. The basic plot behind Mega Man is an evil scientist Dr. Wily has taken over six robots designed by the good Dr. Light. However Dr. Light still had Mega Man and he gave him the ability to fight Dr. Wily. --------------------------------------- HOW CAN I GET MEGA MAN? This version is only available on select celluar phone services with a capable phone. Costs may vary, but for Verizon Wireless, it's $3.49 for a subscription and $6.49 for unlimited use (to be billed on your next phone bill). Mega Man also requires some 350KB of free space on your phone. --------------------------------------- WHAT DO THESE MENU OPTIONS AT THE START OF THE GAME MEAN? Original Mode: Play like the original Mega Man. You have a finite number of lives and you can play for a high score. However, if you lose all your lives, you get a game over and have to start all over. You also lose any progress when you quit. Capture Mode: Like Original, only you can save, have an infinite number of lives, and you don't play for a high score. Help: Tells you how to play Mega Man Key Mapping: Allows you to change the controls. Exit: Exits the game --------------------------------------- WHAT ARE THE CONTROLS? Default controls are as follows UP: Jump, climb up ladders, move cursor DOWN: Climb down ladders, move cursor LEFT: Move left, move cursor RIGHT: Move right, move cursor OK Button: Shoot CLR: Go back 1: Jump left 2: Jump up 3: Jump Right 5: Shoot 7: Autofire 9: Open weapon menu END: Exit game --------------------------------------- WHAT ARE SOME BASIC MOVES MEGA MAN CAN DO? Besides moving, Mega Man can jump, shoot and climb ladders. To jump, press any of the jump buttons. Be warned, if you're pressing a directional button at the same time you press a keypad button (such as RIGHT and 1), Mega Man will not jump. Also if you are in a jump, and you hold 1 or 3, you cannot use any of the directional keys to direct Mega Man's jump. To climb up and down ladders, go up to one and press up or down. But be careful. At the top of ladders, Mega Man has a tendancy to jump as soon as he gets off. --------------------------------------- WHAT ARE SOME THINGS I SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR IN THE STAGES? There are two instant death hazards in the game, pits and spikes. There are also three items in the game. A orange dot item restores Mega Man's health. A blue capsule restores Mega Man's weapon energy for his weapons. Both come in small and large sizes. The last one is an extra life, which looks like Mega Man's head. --------------------------------------- HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION (For NES or PS2)? Because of the limitations of cellphones, Mega Man for mobile systems has shorter levels, and runs much slower (about half the speed of either two). You also don't get booted back to the title screen when you get a game over. For greater or worse, rooms are limited to just one screen, instead of having a scrolling capability. There is also no pause/resume hit trick. Despite the shorter and different level design, Capcom has managed to keep as much of the original level design as much as possible. Another plus is that enemies that normally regenerate in the original games do not once you defeat them. ============================================================================== 2. The Bosses ============================================================================== You are given a selection of six bosses to choose from. Like the original, the recommended order to fight them in is: Bomb man, Guts Man, Cuts Man, Elec Man Ice Man, and Fire Man. Once you defeat all of them, you get to take on the evil Dr. Wily. --------------------------------------- BOMB MAN Weapon: Hyper Bomb Weakness: Fire Storm As soon as Mega Man drops in, there will be a missile moving up and down. It shouldn't be going anywhere near Mega Man so just mosy along. The second screen contains two pits, with bombs dropping out at set intervals. Time your jumps to get across. The rest is easy as pie. But as something different Capcom added, a "weapon" called Magnet Beam is here (it's in the fourth screen while you make your way up). Grab it, and you can start making temporary platforms for Mega Man, which comes in real handy for the next stage BOSS STRATEGY: Bomb man is a real cinch. He likes to jump into Mega Man or as close, and then toss a bomb. He's real easy to dodge, so just keep moving and jumping, while blasting at him. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Mega Man will chuck a bomb. Unlike the original game, this bomb explodes on contact. If it hits an enemy, the enemy will take damage instead of the bomb going right through and exploding. --------------------------------------- GUTS MAN Weapon: Super Arm Weakness: Hyper Bomb Guts Man's stage has the hardest introduction. You are faced with two screens worth of Mets (who will fire relentlessly a three-way barrage). You can only hurt Mets when they shoot. If you recall a green guy with a white shield in Bomb Man's stage, it's the same deal. The next two screens are moving platforms, which in this game is much easier to deal with than in the original They move a great deal slower. But if you don't want to have to deal with moving platforms, use Magnet Beam! Granted you can only create three platforms at a time and Mega Man progressively gets higher as he uses them. BOSS STRATEGY: Guts Man jumps, and comes crashing down. Each time he hits the ground, it stuns Mega Man for a second. Sometimes a rock comes down and Guts man will throw it at Mega Man. You can avoid a lot of heat just by jumping around. Toss a few bombs at him and he'll blow up. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Super Arm allows Mega Man to pick up special blocks. These blocks however only exist in boss rooms, and they stand out from the rest of the scenery. To pick up a block, stand near it and press the fire button. If there is no block to pick up, Mega Man will chuck a piece of debris. The only problem with chucking the blocks is that the block itself won't do damage, it has to hit the ground first and then the debris it creates has to hit someone. --------------------------------------- CUTS MAN Weapon: Rolling Cutter Weakness: Super Arm Cuts Man's stage is really easy. It might be annoying since there's a lot of ladders to climb. BOSS STRATEGY: Cuts Man makes up for his simple stage. He's the most mobile boss, jumping around like a mad man. Once in a while he'll throw his scissor at Mega Man. The scissor arcs around, so getting far enough will do to dodge the attack. Although using Super Arm is best, I found it better to just use the Mega Buster. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Mega Man throws out a scissor blade in a boomerang fashion. However the blade always does a set path, it will not return to Mega Man. --------------------------------------- ELEC MAN Weapon: Thunder Beam Weakness: Rolling Cutter Elec Man is one of two stages with "magic blocks". Magic blocks are platforms that appear for a second, then dissapear, usually after the second one after it appears. It's a good idea to get the pattern they appear in down, but the game runs slow, so you can just bite the bullet and follow them. Also look out for electric beams that appear (it's a good idea to just wait in an empty room to see if they shoot) BOSS STRATEGY: Elec man is much slower in this game, but his strategy remains the same. He'll run towards Mega Man, occasionally throwing a Thunder Beam. Get in his face and toss a few Rolling Cutters to end him. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Mega Man fires out a three way electrical beam. Exactly the same as the original. --------------------------------------- ICE MAN Weapon: Ice Slasher Weakness: Thunder Beam You'll be greeted with two screen's worth of Crazy Razies. If you shoot the bottom, the top will come off and be all over Mega Man. The next obstacle is moving platforms, but they shoot horizontally, so be sure to time your jumps carefully. And lastly, this is the second stage with magic blocks. BOSS STRATEGY: Ice Man is really a cake walk. He'll approach Mega Man at first, then jump and shoot three Ice Slashers. He may repeat the process on the other side, but I take him out before then. Three Thunder Beamns is all that is needed. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: Mega Man fires a simple ice beam, which freezes certain enemies in their path. --------------------------------------- FIRE MAN Weapon: Fire Storm Weakness: Ice Slasher Fire Man's stage consists of lava pits and fire beams, as well as raining fire balls. But all are easy to get by. BOSS STRATEGY: Fire Man has toned down in this game than in the original, who used to fire non-stop. A few Ice Slashers should cool him off. WEAPON DESCRIPTION: In addtion to a fireball, a fire shield is created around Mega Man for a second. --------------------------------------- WILY'S STAGE Wily's Stage is very easy, since it's just screen after screen of boss fights. But don't think it's an endurance match, you are rewarded with a few powerups at the end of each fight. First is the first six bosses one after another in this order: Cuts Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, Bomb Man, Fire Man, Elec Man. Next up is the bosses in the Wily Stages from the original game: YELLOW DEVIL: The basic idea is it's a blob, and its pieces come off screen first thing to form itself. However, the difficulty is toned down greatly from the original since the pieces fly very slowly. You cannot harm it until it completes, to which you just shoot the eye with Thunder Beam a few times. If you don't defeat it on the first formation, it'll break up and get itself to the other side, rinse, lather, repeat. HOLOGRAM CLONE: It's a clone of Mega Man, who will use any weapon you're using at the moment. The clone is yet again toned down in difficulty, as all it does is walk across the room continuously, occasionally jumping and shooting. Use the Mega Buster to save weapon energy. BUBBLE MACHINES: The bubbles will come from left, right, or from the top. For the first three, use the Mega Buster. The last four, switch to Super Arm. Unlike the way it normally works, the blocks actually hurt the machine. You want to use Super Arm since it destroys them in one shot, and they speed up as you defeat them. WILY: The final showdown has come. Wily has two forms, and both are weak to Fire Storm. If you're good, you can get two hits on him in one shot (one from the fireball, the other from the shield). For his first form, he shoots in arcs. In the second form, he shoots in a circular path. ============================================================================== Credits ============================================================================== Mega Man and everything related copyrighted 1987, 2006 Capcom Verizon Wireless is a trademark of Verizon All other material in this guide: Copyrighted 2007 LatiosXT (Xenolatios@gmail.com)
