INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' for the PC, a crime-solving adventure game released by Ubisoft in 2003. All of the five cases are complete. The last one could possibly be shortened by a few steps but I grew tired of replaying it so many times. Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) OVERVIEW & CONTROLS G0200 =============================================================================== Technical Notes: ```````````````` I cannot give you any specific technical support. You need to update the game to v1.01 in order to get 100% on all cases. If you are having trouble with the video or audio, try installing a new version of QuickTime. The game saves after you visit a new location. It only keeps one save data per login name under the SavedGames folder. You may copy this to another location for later, as simply overwriting it with an old version reverts to where you left of previously. This can help towards the end of a case when you aren't sure you have done everything for the Master rank. After you have finished a case, it is a good idea to start the next one and then quit rather than beforehand, as the game may not recognize you have completed the previous crime. Otherwise you may have to re-do the entire case all over again. Controls: ````````` You control the game with the mouse only. The tutorial will teach you most about the game, as well as the fellow CSIs. Use the RIGHT mouse button to skip movies and sentences. The audio will stop but the written sentence often continue so do some more skipping to finish it off. This is very useful for the annoying tutorial at the beginning. Rank: ````` Each case gives you a rank at the end, depending on how well you handle the case, collect evidence and how many hints asked from a fellow CSI. If you find your .txt file under SavedGames of the install directory, the last line contains the evidence, rank and case scores, as well as amount of bonus artwork you have unlocked. You can edit those to make it appear that you have gained a better rank than you actually have and view the bonus pictures. Tools: `````` Double click on tools to get a better description. Hovering over the icon will also give a short info on its usage. *Collection* Swab A forensic swab used to take clean samples of DNA from suspects or unknown wet samples to be processed in the CSI lab. Tweezers Very sharp and durable tweezers used for picking up dangerous or minute pieces of evidence. Mikrosil A putty-like casting material used to make molds of wounds and tool marks on a variety of surfaces. Electrostatic Dust-Print Lifter A device that deploys an electrostatic field on a Mylar film to lift dust prints from various surface types. Gloves Latex rubber gloves used to handle large evidence without contamination. Casting Kit A metal frame filled with plaster used to take impressions of shoe prints, footprints, and tire tracks. Adhesive Lifting Tape Adhesive tape used in the field to lift trace materials off of clothing. *Detection* Magnifying Scope A battery-operated magnifier with optically ground and polished lenses, useful for examining trace evidence. Fingerprint Brush A brush, usually made from fiberglass, camel hair, or squirrel hair, used to apply powder to fingerprint areas. Sniffer A device that samples gasses using polymer plastics painted with conductive material to absorb and identify odorants. IR Diagnostic Camera High-performance handheld thermal IR imager, useful for detecting heat signatures within objects. Ninhydrin A chemical substance that reveals latent fingerprints on porous surfaces, such as paper, by reacting with amino acids in the fingerprints. UV Light A handheld device that provides invisible light at various wavelengths to enhance potential items of evidence, including bruising and accelerants. Luminol A chemiluminescent that reacts with the iron in hemoglobin, causing blood traces to shine with a blue- green light. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== There may be variations for different versions of the game. I hear the UK version does not feature the tutorial. I would think the cases are all the same, however. All solutions give a master rank. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Case 1 G0310 Inn and Out -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Grissom welcomes you to the first case. The first part of the case is a tutorial where you absolutely MUST follow everything the narration tells you to, unless you want to hear her repeatedly say it over and over again. Usually you lose points for asking hints from a CSI, but for this one time it will not count towards your rank. Asking AFTER the tutorial is over will, however, deduct points from your total. FAQ G0500 =============================================================================== 1.) Help! I didn't get 100% on one of my cases. First off make sure you have installed the update for v1.01. Then you also need to RESTART the case you were currently on to make it work. Nearly all cases require you to investigate parts that are not necessary for a successful arrest. For example, on the first cast you must ask the hotel owner about his blood in the sink before the end or you miss out on a movie. Sometimes it is important to get the order of events and questioning right. 2.) Please, please, please I really cannot get 100% on case 5! First off, make sure you have the patch installed, and both case 1 and 4 are also Master ranks. You need to complete the investigation in a certain
way, and thus ask certain questions to Leda only. I've found that asking
her questions she will most likely lie about, or give false information
should NOT even be asked in the first. Later on you also need to ask her in
a specific order. If you ask her a question too early it will also cost
you, as you should really confirm with your evidence first rather than hope
    for a confession.

On the whole it is quite tricky to get 100% and many might just do so by
chance. I have not seen a 100% walkthrough that worked in the three years
this game has been out, even though the authors have sworn by its solution.
If you have already started the case it is not easy to apply what you need
to do. Instead, re-start this guide's walkthrough and follow it to the
    point.

3.) Can I ask you if I am missing something?

Not unless you followed the above walkthrough word by word and it didn't
result in a successful conclusion. Then tell me in great detail and I'll
try to recreate the error of the guide.

4.) I don't see any video/audio on the movies.

Install a newer (or the latest) version of QuickTime, even though the game
comes with one that should be good enough to work. It might just not. Even
with the latest version you may still have performance issues, that's
    QuickTime for you.
